[MOC] A Powerboat With TWO ENGINES! (Wasserschneider 9960 XR)
deraven replied to XAxles's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Looks like there are a couple motors available on Bricklink… but only a total of 4, so the TantiveBoat may have to wait! Good luck with this interesting maritime project! -
MOC: Ultra Agents Mission HQ P.U.P.
deraven replied to NinjaTron's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Nice job on that! Looks like we'll be getting an official version of P.U.P. in the upcoming (70169) 4x4 Agent Patrol: http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/70169_4x4_Agent_Patrol -
Yes, 31032 is nice! I think that dragon body along with a sculpted head (like from 7017) would look cool. Not that the brick-build head isn't well done, but one of the other heads might make it feel more creature-y along the lines of the trends larger official Lego creatures have been following over the last several years.
-
I think your best result, especially for a *big* dragon, will be to build something yourself using a mix of system and constraction parts, but as for "official" Lego dragons, my favorite has always been the very fierce and posable Viking dragon from set 7017. As for pure looks, that might go to the new Smaug, but I really don't like those huge, rigid neck an tail pieces. Those along with the barely articulated legs I think really limits what you can do with it… but the new wings are nice. :)

Love the brick-built camels! Very nice.

I'm pretty sure it's Porco Rosso and found almost the same image via a Google Image Search, so I'll put up another one for guessing:
-
It can be made to work, but I think rather than mixing them directly I'd have one side of a street made from the Modulars and the other from the Creator buildings, or the different scale buildings in different parts of town- that kind of thing. In my opinion, putting them side-by-side without expanding the Creator sets (or down-sizing the Modulars) doesn't look quite right:
-
Not 100% sure on this one, but I'm thinking Porco Rosso(sp?). Love Miyazaki stuff!
-
The NPU on the Maiden's battle hammer with the crowns blows my mind. Just fantastic! And nice job with your series overall, too!
-
Great as usual; I really like the water technique on this one! The foam/bubbles at the bottom really help complete the effect.

Yes! I have a feeling we're all starting to build up our watch/re-watch lists here… :) What do you have for us next, Tarfful?
-
A trip, Yes, that's as apt a description as any. Here's another that should be easy, if you've been exposed to it at all:
-
Wizards with Mark Hamill… I think. Though I'd say it's pretty obscure for most folks. Luckily(?) I came across it in the comments section of something unrelated on io9 several weeks ago and randomly ended up watching most of the movie.

Welcome to EB, Brando! For such a limited scale, I think that looks really nice! One suggestion, on the inside where the floor is starting to come up from his digging, maybe have a 1x1 light grey tile already displaced (in place of one of the cheese slopes) with a stud of brown showing in the hole to give it a little more obvious "being-dug-up" action there. I look forward to seeing more of your MOCs!

[MOC] Hot Rod - Fire Bucket
deraven replied to sm 01's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Model Team + Technic + RC & PF + chrome… great! The decals and string details are nice, too. -
Looks great! I really like the tower that's on fire with smoke billowing up. As others have said, post some more pics so we can see all the awesome details!

Question re: Brick Friday at US LEGO Stores
deraven replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Well, that is officially the only item I'm sad I missed, then! The $59 retail still isn't bad, but $30 would have been nice! -
Question re: Brick Friday at US LEGO Stores
deraven replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Was that actually at a US store? That 1600 piece creative tower is not available in the US, according to Lego, and I only saw it in an ad for Walmart Canada. Wondering what's going on with that one... -
Excellent steampunk-y insect! Great overall shape and nice detailing.

Question re: Brick Friday at US LEGO Stores
deraven replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Vorkosigan, the reason I don't think there are double VIP points is because all the other promos are mentioned in the advertising, including the postcards, etc., I got in the post while double VIP points isn't mentioned anywhere. The free calendar is with $75 purchase. From what I've heard, it does have some good coupons and freebies at the B&M stores throughout the year (a free build-a-minifig box, a free small PAB cup, 15% off a single set - that kind of stuff). That's another reason I didn't order online last weekend when they had the double points- I was planning on shopping in-store this weekend with family and wanted the calendar which didn't seem to be available from S@H. Oh well… hindsight is 20/20. -
Question re: Brick Friday at US LEGO Stores
deraven replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I'd like to know as well. I was at least hoping for double VIP points, but it doesn't look like it. Back on the 22nd they had double points and the rest of the promotions as an early Brick Friday special, but I figured they'd have the same this weekend (as they did last year) so I waited since I had some family coming in to town this week that I wanted to shop with. Disappointed at that. I know the VIP Invite-only event had some of the other types of promos you mentioned but, while I didn't get an invite myself this year, other folks on here have said that it was underwhelming in comparison to last year and other years past. I went last year and it definitely wasn't as worthwhile as the year before. I certainly still appreciate any additional perks from the VIP program, but it seems like the promos from TLC are getting less and less enticing each year. All things being equal, I like to purchase from Lego directly, but when they're 20% more than other local retailers it's kinda hard to justify since my pocketbook isn't bottomless! -
Really nice, sleek looking ship. I especially like the railing! The decking also looks very rich with this color scheme.

You got it, Tarfful! Your turn!

Yeah, but I couldn't resist their expressions in that screencap!

Wow! OK… next up:
