  1. How cool is that? *y* Steve
  2. Blast, I'd have prefered a pony... I really really want one... almost had one too, but stupid seller sent it to the wrong address... :-( I wonder if, maybe, it is a prototype, which would explain all the oddities... Steve
  3. I am suspicious. I'm curious why Hawk-themed Jayko would be a carrying Lion shield. It is, to my eye, quite reminscient of the shifty bricks sets. Also the torturing of the skeleton seems a bit out of place for Lego. Though the rest of the gallery is replete with other similar pictures of released sets and no indication of similar attempts at deception. Steve
  4. Athos

    Google-game!

Surprised no one has done this word yet: Lego Steve
  5. Well its been a while since I posted a MOC, so I thought I'd get back into the swing of things with a vignette from the scariest book I've read: IT http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Vi...henKing/it1.jpg The whole horrific gallery (including other Stephen King vignettes): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=185145 Steve
  6. Don't forget my other three stories: Johnny Thunder and the Cave of Terror Johnny Thunder and Blackheart's Gold Johnny Thunder and the King of the Gypsies Steve X-D
  7. Not a bad set. I'd have prefered the first dino set in green though. This one had a lot more plates than bricks. I snagged it mostly for the green cloth sails... Elven Corsairs spotted on the horizon... Steve
  8. Its a good set. Much better than any of the Star Wars other offerings this year (except maybe the Star Destroyer, which I do not have). And come to think of it, much better than any other set I've snagged this year... Steve
  9. I'm just wondering where the Adventurer forum is... ;-) Steve
  10. Oops... should be fixed now: Long John Silver Steve P.S. I'm leaving Darth Vader here, in case anyone was curious what all the Vader talk was about...
  11. No reason. Just didn't want to overrun the post with pictures. And some forums where I posted it, don't like big pictures in the thread. Steve
  12. Snagged this set at TRU today. And thought I'd try my hand at a review, since no one has done this set yet. The pre-lims: Cost: $49.99 Piece Count: 431 Figures: 5 The box: Nothing special, though I must say I miss the boxes with that open up... Everything out of the box: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml03.jpg The instructions: Colors are easier to distinguish that previously, but the greys have a very inaccurate green tint to them and the gold has a very inaccurate orange tone. I must also say I miss the old high quality instruction booklets... The build: First floor: Very wide open, though I must say those green-grey pieces will be nice for landscaping cliffs (especially in my JT stories ;) ) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml05.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml06.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml07.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml08.jpg Second floor: note the forge and anvil http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml10.jpg Pull the pin for a trap, I don't quite understand... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml09.jpg Third floor: notice the crappy one piece wall... and not sure what the skeleton elevator is all about either... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml11.jpg Also note the treasure, for those of you newbies lacking gold coins http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml12.jpg Fourth floor: nothing to see here (except the crossbows, which I don't think are connected very well), move along... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml13.jpg Top floor: gentlemens wear... er I mean, dragon skulls, flames, and goofy shiney balls... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml14.jpg The gates: Not much too these. The arches look nice. They connect with a double technic pin brick. Nice to have a few hinges and doors... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml15.jpg Better build that the last two lines, but still does not compare to the classic-castle era. Bags were numbers, but there was no sub-building, as in Vladek's Fortress Took me just under an hour and a half to complete (including pauses for pictures). The model: The catapult: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml04.jpg The fortress, sans figures: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml16.jpg The fortress, with figs: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml17.jpg Fair design. Still very open. Not much of a fortress. Strangely enough there is a ladder (which I forgot to take a picture of) to get from the 3rd floor to the top level, but nothing to get you to the 3rd. Still suffers significantly from the crappy design style of KK2. The figures: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml18.jpg Armor designs are nice, though the gold one is ruined by the stupid hawk printing on it. Also very disappointed that the only new face was on Sir Adric. Seems quite strange that King Jayko uses the same face as King Mathias. And even stranger that Vladek has not aged at all... Other face is the Maharaja from the adventurers and the Yelling face from the vikings. Torsos are all blank... :( New parts: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml20.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Reviews/ml21.jpg Don't know what to say... other than they don't do anything for me. Conclusion: Ehhhhh... I'm not impressed. Price was a little high. If I had it to do over again, I'd pass and wait for a sale on this one and tried my luck on another set... 6/10 Steve
  13. I've been a member here for quite sometime (despite the fact that I'm an American) and post here somewhat regularly though not nearly as much as at C-C. I actually post in almost all of the major and some minor lego forums (the more exposure the better, I always say... or used to, until... well never mind). Steve
  14. Lookin' mighty interesting. Steve
  15. How bad is the sticker situation? Are all of the printed pieces stickers? Most of them? Steve
  16. Another nice review. I especially like the quotes from the figures. Since I own most all castle sets (and all of the ones reviewed thus far), the review portion doesn't do much for me, as I am quite familiar with the sets. The quotes, however, keep me reading. As to the set is it quite a nice set. I attached it, the guarded inn, armor shop and siege tower wall to make a smaller town/outpost apart from the Kings Castle. You would probably be able to snag most of the parts needed off bricklink pretty cheaply... at least for the ram part. The walls and figures might run you more, but probably cheaper (and easier) than trying to acquire the entire set. Which is another great aspect of these sets: interchangability! Nearly all of the parts are useful and used frequently amongst other sets, unlike the new specialized pieces found in only a few sets. Steve, who is so happy he grew up in the era of classic castle...
  17. Nice tree. It would go great in a fantasy-castle garden with the white fruit. Steve, who needs to get going on his Bible vignettes, before he is left in the dust...
  18. Very cool. I especially like the broken part at the top. Give it a very nice aged look. Just one question: Why would the Romans build a tower with no door? Or is that why they abandoned it? ;-) Steve
  19. I wonder if it has anything to do with that hacker who seems to be attacking Lego sites as of late... I've been having trouble with C-C for a couple days now. Steve
  20. Now a nice blue (or sand blue) roof tile pack would be nice. Steve
  21. I didn't mean specifically red boats, I just meant red is a very common color in Lego sets. I'd say red is the second largest color I have after black. I am really sick of red roof pieces. We need some variety... Steve
  22. Gah! I am so sick of stickers. *n* And flesh-toned Luke looks horrible. Flesh-tones with tan hair... :-X Steve
  23. A lovely little set. My only gripe (and it is very minor, because the red is such a good color scheme for the ship) is that the boat hull pieces are red. I am personally a bit sick of red lego sets. It must be Lego's favorite color, as it is everywhere. Steve
  24. I like this set. It looks quite foresty and the baseplate is nice for some quick landscaping. The cart also reminds we of a gypsy wagon (of which, if you will remember, I am quite fond). And I think the torsos are great. And the falling tree trap is kind of cool too. What I wouldn't give for more sets like these and less of KK2... :-( Steve
  25. The words are a bit small (either that or my eyes are a bit bad), so I haven't read much of it. Steve
