Was that directed at me, or our dearly departed friend out there? I think we'd better get out there and search the body for clues. Steve

Gather 'round ladies and gentlemen and we take another look to the world beyond the grave... The realm of the spirits... where the dead don't rest quietly... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Vi...fe/stpeter1.jpg OK, so it didn't need the dramatic introduction... but guess Joe Vig never heard, you can't take it with you: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Vi...fe/stpeter4.jpg The whole heavenly gallery: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=151171 Steve

One thing I have to say about the catalog is I like its layout. Rather than just having a single picture of the set in isolation, they seem to be moving back to the old style of set brochures with all the sets laid out together in a large scene. That is the thing I miss most about the later catalogs... I loved looking at the elaborate Castle, Pirate, and even Town and Space scenes. Steve

Is there really any question? Vikings are ahead by nearly 2 to 1. Vikings had its flaws (which I've pointed out to numerous people ad naseum), but it is still the best in what I still consider to be a somewhat weak year... not as weak as previous years, but still weak nonetheless. The competition: Star Wars: Star Wars is Star Wars. Its cool and all, but doesn't get me excited. Also the fleshtones really knock it down for me. KK2: I was excited early on, but got a couple of the sets and lost interest in it. They just don't fit with any other lines. City: Getting better, but still nothing like it could be. What's with all the emergency services and construction? Who are these people rescuing and building for? Harry Potter: One of the lines better years. Some nice sets... ruined for me by the fleshtones. Bionicle: where is the smiley with the finger being stuck down the throat? Dinos: decent designs on the vehicles. Doesn't do anything for me, as I'm not real fond of the curved slopes and the colors they use. As to the dinos... see my bionicle comment above and add a "what the hell?" for good measure. Steve

"The Spirit stood among the graves, and pointed down to One. He advanced towards it trembling. The Phantom was exactly as it had been, but he dreaded that he saw new meaning in its solemn shape... Still the Ghost pointed downward to the grave by which it stood.... Scrooge crept towards it, trembling as he went; and following the finger, read upon the stone of the neglected grave his own name, Ebenezer Scrooge." http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Vi...tmascarol4c.jpg The whole Dickensian gallery: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=156986 Steve

Oh, a wonderful pudding! Bob Cratchit said, and calmly too, that he regarded it as the greatest success achieved by Mrs Cratchit since their marriage. Mrs Cratchit said that now the weight was off her mind, she would confess she had had her doubts about the quantity of flour. Everybody had something to say about it, but nobody said or thought it was at all a small pudding for a large family. It would have been flat heresy to do so. Any Cratchit would have blushed to hint at such a thing. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Vi...tmascarol3a.jpg The whole yuletide gallery: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=156986 Steve

Although they had but that moment left the school behind them, they were now in the busy thoroughfares of a city, where shadowy passengers passed and repassed; where shadowy carts and coaches battle for the way, and all the strife and tumult of a real city were. It was made plain enough, by the dressing of the shops, that here too it was Christmas time again; but it was evening, and the streets were lighted up. The Ghost stopped at a certain warehouse door, and asked Scrooge if he knew it. "Know it!'' said Scrooge. "Was I apprenticed here!'' http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Vi...tmascarol2d.jpg The whole festive gallery: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=156986 Steve

"...it came on through the heavy door, and passed into the room before his eyes. Upon its coming in, the dying flame leaped up, as though it cried, ``I know him! Marley's Ghost!'' and fell again. The same face: the very same. Marley in his pigtail, usual waistcoat, tights, and boots; the tassels on the latter bristling, like his pigtail, and his coat-skirts, and the hair upon his head. The chain he drew was clasped about his middle. It was long, and wound about him like a tail; and it was made (for Scrooge observed it closely) of cash-boxes, keys, padlocks, ledgers, deeds, and heavy purses wrought in steel..." http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Athos/Vi...tmascarol1d.jpg The whole ghostly gallery: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=156986 Steve
