Bonaparte replied to Mister Phes's topic in Forum Information and Help
Hey Mister Phes, I was actually trying the facebook function of the new board exactly to see what would happen. Just like you I think the IPB logo on the facebook post needs to be something else. I'll request Siegfried to look into this. -

Hard refresh (F5) inside that forum will make you see the current graphics (you're seeing a version that's cached by your browser).

All, I've continued to work on the 'crashed forum database', the one that came with the provider backup from last Monday, and just succeeded of repairing it. Thanks Asbjorn for the golden advice But we are live now on this forum based a 5 days older backup and there's no way to re-integrate those 5 days with this database, but we will 'on request' go get important lost topics from the other database and PM the content to members who lost something that took a lot of time making. For example, I just PM'd a long write up to Mark Bellis (about his Class 08 Diesel Shunter with PF L-Motor & Gearbox) which he did in the 5 days window and he can now simply re-post it. All admins and moderators have now access to the 'other forum' that contains the 5 missing days and will copy/paste if you need anything from those days... Make your requests here (and be specific please so we know what to look for).

Mark, check your PM inbox Request HERE to recover a lost topic (from the 5 day window).

Actually yes. Last week Wednesday, before the upgrade, I tested our recovery procedure by setting up a test board (copy of the live one) based on a backup.
-
There are 2 kind of backups: 1/ Once a week we take our own full backup of the forum (database and all the files) which is transfered to an external location (in case the server is lost). 2/ The provider takes daily backups -> but this one seemed corrupt after restoring it So we took the safest solution and restored our own backup. On the new server I'm hoping the impact of the backup will be much less, and if so we I'll take bi-weekly backups. All our disks on the server are mirrored, so in case of a disk crash we are also protected. Also on the new server we'll have such protection (RAID 10 over 4 disks of 1TB).

Hi Everyone, Yes we are open again after some days of downtime. Due to an unfortunate incident we lost 5 days of posts and are now running a backup from last week Wednesday. I am very very sorry for the loss of these 5 days and will do what I can from this happening ever again (it was the first time as far as I can remember). We have been experiencing some server slowness which we hope to fix soon by moving to a very powerful dedicated server (now we are on a Virtual Private Server). The new server is rented but we are waiting for the access codes to arrive by regular mail. Since that might take few more days we have decided to re-open the board on the old server. Don't worry, everything will be moved over when the new server is available. Discussion topic - The EB admins

It will be automatically resized, so you may actually need to use something larger to achieve the normal 100x100 avatar size. I hope (and expect) there will be a lot of goodies in the new version as well. It's several years newer than our current one. If you like you can find out here. -

Initially there will be many noticeable changes. Once we have one forum skin again customized you'll find much less changes (but for some time we'll only have 1 skin, so no different ones per theme forum). Next we'll rebuild all the theme forum skins. So yes, you'll feel this, but it should be pretty painless The permanent changes will be the differences between Invision v3.0.5 and v3.3.4. One of them is the removal of topic descriptions. -
Major forum upgrade being planned

Normal case: 3h Worst case: 2 days (in this case we encountered major issues and need Invision support to convert the forum and database) -
Very soon the admins will start a major forum upgrade moving us to the latest version of the Invision forum software. We are kinda forced to upgrade because our current version has reached 'end of life', which means we can't get any support from this moment onwards. The previous time we did such a major upgrade we prepared everything for 6 months in the background. By the time we were ready Invision already released a new forum version, so we are not going to do it like that again. Instead we'll upgrade the board and get us going with one default forum skin. Once we have one skin ready we'll fix all the other skins over time. So that means you'll see a pretty uncustomized board immediately after the upgrade until we get one skin ready. During the upgrade the forum will be closed as we need to 'freeze' our database. Current target is to do the upgrade this Wednesday, starting 9am (CET). Link to discussion topic.

I love the way you are presenting your ship, with a lot of humor! And I like all the action that's happening on your deck.
-
I love the deck and all the details on the deck. Also your masts are a piece of art. I admit I'm still getting used to the amount of white, but it's growing on me. I guess this is best judged when seeing the ship IRL and not on a picture. Looking forward to seeing the end result!

So how is the Vesta doing these days? Has the re-construction of this beauty been started?
