[SoNE Freebuild] 8.1 - The Wastelands of Aquilae
LucasLaughing replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
You've really got a knack for ship building - first that freighter and now this sweet ride - I like it! Great forced perspective too - that's something I've been wanting to tackle in one of my freebuilds, but haven't had a way to fit in yet. -
This build fills in the events between "We could be heroes" and "Consequences." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After Action Report Report Number: A519658DBB645 Report date: 38.9.22 Prepared by: Capt Jackson Parth, XO Delta Company 142nd Spec Ops Batallion Location Grid: 79T33B Planet: Clovis III System: Clovis system (097,-51,06) Incident Category: Allied casualty Type: Blue-on-blue Criminal Investigation: No Narrative On 38.9.21 at 0530 local time, three ImpSpecOps Commandos from 5th platoon, Bravo squad (accompanied by 14 troops from the Clovian Military) led an assault on a suspected enemy safe house. *The remaining images have been light-enhanced to show detail* The location was abandoned, but there was evidence that it had been occupied within the last several hours. At 0547 the Clovis Tactical Operations Center denied the team's request for extraction, and ordered them to push further into the city in an attempt to locate any fleeing rebels. Team leader Cpl Connor “Crash” Thull filed a formal objection to this order, citing the fact that the majority of his troops were carrying light weapons, and that pushing further into the city would take them out of their mapped AO [Area of Operations]. His objection was overruled and the team was ordered to depart immediately. At 0550, Cpl Lucas “Birdman” Kirana contacted the Imperial Garrison on the southern edge of the city and negotiated the use of the Garrison's TIE Bombers for CAS [Close Air Support] if needed. This was done without the knowledge of Clovis TOC. Cpl Kirana and the team's RCO [Radio Comms Operator] subsequently discovered that the radios issued by the Clovian military could not communicate with the TIE units. A work-around was found by patching the signals through the target building's transmission array. Cpl Thull ordered Cpl Kirana to stay behind and operate the comms equipment. The RCO, a sniper/spotter team and a heavy gunner also stayed behind. At 0556 Cpl Thull, Cpl Walen “Romeo” Pax and the other 10 members of the Clovian Military departed, heading (galactic) north on Route Echo. Note: The navigation/datapads issued to the SpecOps team use standard Imperial units of measurement and are oriented to galactic north. They cannot be reporgrammed in the field. All units on Clovis (including garrisoned Imperial units) use the “Miner's” system of measurement, where 1 unit = .3 Imperial meters, and 1 claim = 1.6 Imperial Kilometers. Clovian units also navigate using planetary north, which is oriented 180 degrees from galactic north. At 0625 Cpl Thull's team made contact with a large enemy force and began taking casualties. A short time later, the sniper assigned to Cpl Kirana's team reported enemy foot mobiles and armed repulsorlift trucks approaching their location. From here, events unfolded quickly. See attached radio/comms transcription. Cpl Walen made repeated requests for CAS. As Cpl Kirana tried to direct the TIE Bomber onto the enemy forces, he made an error in translating the coordinates relayed by Cpl Walen to the TIE units. As a result of this error, a TIE bomber dropped ordinance on a position occupied by Cpl Thull's team. Cpl Kirana corrected his mistake and spent the next 15 minutes coordinating with his sniper team and the TIE Bombers to neutralize enemy forces in the area. He also called for a MedEvac to stage outside the area of fighting. At 0642, a convoy of ITTs dispatched by the Imperal Garrison reached Cpl Kirana's position. Cpl Kirana and the remaining Clovian soldier joined the convoy and headed north to Cpl Thull's last known position. They arrived shortly before the MedEvac bird. BDA [battle Damage Assessment] follows: Enemy- Killed in Action: 203, Wounded in Action: 30 Imperial- KIA: 2, WIA: 0 Host (Clovis)- KIA 8, WIA: 2 Civillain- KIA: 0, WIA: 12 Remarks The number of enemy KIA is a conservative estimate; the condition of the remains made it difficult to positively identify individual bodies. It appears 5 of the 8 friendlies were killed by ordinance dropped by the TIE bomber, and 3 were killed by enemy fire. Cpl Pax was seriously wounded by the TIE bomber ordinance and passed away during surgery at a local hospital. Cpl Thull was fatally wounded by the TIE bomber ordinance. Proximate cause of incident Cpl Kirana's error in translating Imperial units to Clovian units. Secondary causes Clovian TOC's order for the assault team to leave their AO and enter a hostile urban area, with minimal support and no prior planning. Recommended actions None. This officer does not believe that Cpl Kirana's error was due to negligence or dereliction of duty. No punishment is recommended. Personal notes: I arrived on Clovis at 1330 hours the day of the incident and traveled immediately to the Clovian detention center where Cpl Kirana was being held. Before I could speak, Cpl Kirana inquired about Cpl Pax. Although he showed no emotion when I told him of Cpl Pax's death, he initially refused to leave the jail cell, stating that he would like to remain in Clovian custody until trial and that the guards had told him he would likely be executed. When I told him that following me back to the ship was an order, not a suggestion, he offered his resignation, effective immediately, from the Imperial Military. I rejected his resignation, citing IMSLO [imperial Military Stop Loss Order]. At that point, he accompanied me back to the Avenger where he was treated for shock and exhaustion. I attempted to schedule an appointment with the ship's therapist, but learned that the therapist was killed in action last month and a replacement has not yet been found. Cpl Kirana was granted two weeks leave after which he will be reassigned, at his request, to a different unit.

[SoNE Ep VII] We Could Be Heroes
LucasLaughing replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Thanks VK! I agree, we have a very talented story-telling team and it's been cool to see people get more into telling their stories as the episodes go on. I think you can definitely count yourself as part of the story telling team! I'm hoping you find a way to bring back troopers 27491 and 44783 ... perhaps they'll be reassigned to the ISB? -
BNSF has diagrams online for most of their rolling stock, so once you choose a scale you can find the exact measurements of the car you want to model. http://www.bnsf.com/customers/how-can-i-ship/individual-railcar/#%23subtabs-3

[SoNE Ep VII Freebuild] Consequences
LucasLaughing replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Thanks! I never ended up getting the surgeon CMF so I used what I had Thanks Lord Tyrus! Thank you! The "missing link" in the stories will be filled in during the next free build (or possibly the one after that, depending on how the building goes ) Thanks! Yeah, that's fair. There wasn't a lot of source material re: medical treatment in the Empire so I had to sort of fake it, but I see what you mean about the city feel. Thanks!- 14 replies

I'm continuing to love the collaboration between you and Markus - you're both excellent builders and good story tellers! I really like the piping along the walls, and your minifig posing does a great job of conveying the action.

[SoNE Ep VII Freebuild] Consequences
LucasLaughing replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Thanks! I was hoping people wouldn't be too annoyed by the jump forward in story Thanks guys! Imperial ER, eh? I smell a new spin-off series This build was partly inspired by a documentary on Netflix about combat medics, so I had good source material to help with the realism / details.- 14 replies

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
LucasLaughing replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks Hireshade, I couldn't find the pics either. I'm wondering if the "Imperial Assault Carrier" will be the Gozanti-class Cruiser seen in Star Wars Rebels, as it seems to hold 4 ties on its belly... -
This build takes place shortly after my Episode VII Entry: We could be heroes. "Hey, wake up, we're about to land..." The flight-medic's voice pulls me out of one nightmare and drops me into another. We land with a gentle thud and the back door hisses open. Surgeon: What do we have? Medic: Approximately 30 year-old male, close proximity to proton bomb. Amputation of right arm at the shoulder, right leg above the knee. Tourniquet fields applied and 2 units of blood administered en route. Pulse is weak, 90 bpm. Surgeon: Hey, open your eyes for me. What's his name? Birdman: Romeo. Surgeon: Romeo, open your eyes. There you go. You're in the hospital, you're going to be okay, just try to stay awake for me. The medic and the surgeon continue to throw medical jargon at each other. I follow along, sick to my stomach. Romeo is making horrible, quiet noises. The corridor smells of industrial strength antiseptic, barely masking the stench of human waste. I watch from the hall as they transfer Romeo onto the operating table. I feel helpless. I'm not used to feeling helpless. Medic: Don't worry - they'll take good care of him. Crash is dead. Romeo is ... broken. It's my fault. Clovis MP: Corporal Lucas Kirana? I look up, nod. Clovis MP: Sir, I need you to come with us. You're not under arrest, but under section 184.53 of the Clovis-Imperial treaty we are authorized to detain members of the Empire while we conduct an investigation into the death of Clovis military troops. Don't worry, sir ... we've notified your commanding officer - we'll get it all sorted out. I wish people would stop telling me not to worry. Damn Clovis and its miles of regulations and red tape. I briefly calculate the odds; 3-to-1, but they looks slow and out of practice. I could take at least two of them before ... no, no point going down that road. I get up wearily and let them take me away. ------------------------------------------------------ Out of character: I know this build skips ahead some story-wise, but rest assured more details will be filled in over the next few freebuilds.

[SoNE Freebuild] 7.4 - Off the Books
LucasLaughing replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
This turned out really well! I like all the curves in the Guard's Council Chambers (and the arches as stairs) and the walkway is beautiful. Great job on the minifig posing, especially the little details like having the capes both blowing off to the side as if there's a breeze going through. My other favorite part is the tree with the trans-light blue dots on the 1x1 snot bricks - the build seems deceptively simple but the way the blue and the black interact looks really cool :-) -
This looks great! I like that you added all the interior details, and I love the micro train layout. Also, always nice to see a fellow Seattleite
-
Thanks! I agree - I tend to find MOW units super interesting. I am planning on adding to the fleet, although I can't say how long it will take as I'm a pretty slow builder and spend most of my time in the Star Wars forum Thanks for all the comments and compliments guys!
-
Thanks! I wanted the "magnet" to at least be able to reach both the ground and the wagon so the arm took me a while to work out. Thank you! They seem to be used quite a bit by BNSF, which is the main railway in my part of the USA - I'm not sure how often they're used in other parts of the country and/or outside the US. Thanks guys! Thank you! I was excited when I saw how well the breathing tank would match the prototype Thanks! Srbandrews is right - it's mainly 6-wide, although I just measured the crane and it comes out to just over 8 wide at the base of the bottom "steps." Thank you guys!
-
Hey all, finally have a version of this that I'm happy with so I thought I'd share it. This is based on a real piece of MOW equipment - the CMCD 312E. Comments / suggestions / questions are welcome - thanks for viewing!
-
Good work Empire (and nice entries by the rebels too). Thanks for hosting a great episode Bob! I would like the new tag, please.
-
Bah - just when I thought you were coming over to the Right Side Great builds and story though - the Imperial Base looks spot-on and you do a great job on the little details. I also like your use of the apples in the 'past' scene. Thanks for leading an awesome episode, too! I really enjoyed this one and I think it gave people a chance to tell their stories in a fun way.

[SoNE Ep VII] We Could Be Heroes
LucasLaughing replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Thanks for the kind comments and feedback everyone! And thanks for blogging me BEAVeR! BEAVeR - I like your idea of making removable walls to make photography easier - definitely going to incorporate that into the freebuild I'm working on. There is actually light coming through the slopes on the floor - I had a base built with some power function LED's hooked up, but they didn't end up coming through as well as I hoped. I probably just need to mess about more with my camera settings and try some different lighting set ups. I actually didn't know that there was a character named "Starman Jones" - I just wanted something that mixed a Star Wars sounding name with the good Dr. Jones Thanks again for the comments and feedback! -
This might be the best line in SoNE thus far As others have said, the Naboo scene is beautiful - I love the statue head and the pathway through the field, and the building looks very authentic. You've done a great job with texture in the first scene - the straight lines and pillars of the building contrast nicely with the sharp jumble of ice and snow. Like I told Beaver, I'd love to work with you guys if you collaborate again on the next episode (although hopefully Goatm will have enough time to recover from his fairly horrific wounds first ...)
-
This is an excellent entry, as always - I laughed when I saw that it was "built in quite a hurry" because it definitely doesn't look rushed or incomplete I really love all the complex lines and angles you've got going on with the grey / blue building and you do a really nice job with the rocks and snow. I like the use of the airplane / train parts in your "past" scene - it's always cool to see those put to other uses, and you make them fit really well into the build. I also the questions you continue to explore with your story. The easier answer, of course, is to say "I'll just pull the trigger in this one situation," but I think your character is right in thinking that there will always be another "situation" that calls for a person to compromise their ethics, so I admire your character for ... the phrase I want to use is "sticking to his guns," but that wouldn't be accurate here These past few months have been hectic, but the new year should be better so I'd love to get in on any collaboration you guys end up doing in the next episode. I'm still trying to pick between 2 different story paths for my character, but they're both inspired by the suggestions you gave on my last build, so thanks again! PS - that's quite a story about your great granduncles. My great-uncle fought for the dutch resistance during WWII and my grandparents were also in Holland during the war, but thankfully their story did not have a tragic ending like those two brothers.
-
That's a cool ship - I think you strike a nice balance between the greebled middle section and the smoother wings. Your minifig posing looks great - something I always appreciate I also like the little details like the footprints in the snow and the snow/ice on the spire. Good work!

[SoNE Episode VII] Always Be Ready
LucasLaughing replied to Kodan Black's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I like your story so far - it's always tough being the new guy! The ship looks properly cramped, and I dig the 'Classic Space' feel of the bar from the past scene. Glad to have you building for the Empire! -
Of the five habitable moons orbiting the gas giant Clovis, Clovis III was the ugliest (and if you'd been to the other four, you'd know what a bold statement that was). Swamps, slums and strip mines that stretched from horizon to horizon covered most of the planet; the Doonium hauled out of the mines was the only reason anyone (including us) was there. Officially, we were there to “assist and advise” the Clovian military, which was dealing with an indigenous uprising. Apparently, the beings who toiled in the mines grew tired of living in abject poverty while watching the ones who owned the mines get richer and richer. Lately, there'd been an upsurge in violence and sabotage, and our task was to poke around and see if it would take stormtroopers on the ground to make sure the supply of Doonium kept flowing. Birdman: I think we need to call off the Op - this isn't working. We were supposed to be raiding an insurgent safe house the next day, but the hand drawn map given to us by an informant didn't match up with the maps we'd gotten from the local military, and neither one lined up with the holo given to us by ImpIntel. I'm not just talking details – the different maps didn't even use the same units to measure distance. Crash: Why don't we use that compass you're always carrying as our baseline and calibrate everything to that? Romeo: I never knew Birdman had a compass... Crash: That's 'cause every time we go ground-side, Birdman and I hang out at the base while you go out looking for women with poor judgement. . Romeo: It's called gathering intel and - oh wow! That looks like ...is that The Compass of Destiny?! Birdman: Yeah it is. It belonged to my grandpa. Romeo: Hold on - your grandpop was Starman Jones?!? Crash: No ... but he was his stuntman for a handful of holoflicks. Crash: Wait - Starman who and the what compass?? Romeo: Starman Jones – the daring xeno-archeologist always getting into trouble and having outlandish adventures! Didn't you watch holo-dramas growing up?? Crash: No, we weren't allowed to watch holo-shows. Romeo: That explains so much... anyway, Birdman, tell us about the compass! Birdman: Well, for my 7th birthday I got to visit grandpa on the set. I loved it - the monsters, which were loud and scary even though they were fake ... ... the holocam bots darting around for close-up shots... ...and most especially, the actresses who thought I was adorable and fed me snacks from the crew table... The compass itself isn't much - they had at least a dozen of them in the props department, but I was really excited when he gave it to me after his scene had wrapped. As he gave it to me, he said: "Kid, in the story this compass helps the hero choose the right path. I want you to have it..." "So that it can tell me the right things to do?" I asked. "Uh, no," he said, "don't be daft, it's just a film prop. But, in the years to come, I hope it'll help remind you that there are right paths and wrong ones, and sometimes it takes a while to spot the difference." Birdman: ...And I dunno, guys; I'm not sure the Empire is backing the right side here. Crash: "Ours is not to question why..." Birdman: "We just shoot the other guy." Yeah, I know. It's just ... I've got a bad feeling about this one...

[SoNE Freebuild 15] Fixing to Clear the Mind
LucasLaughing replied to MKJoshA's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Awesome scene! I just went back and read the rest of your 'Season 2' story to refresh my memory and I really dig what you've got going; I'm glad you had your character crash for a while to deal with the death of his brother, and I'm curious to see if/how it will affect him in the future. I like the feel of the interior warehouse - especially the grey greebling on the walls. That speeder also has a cool "hot-rod" look!
