[SoNE Ep VI] Flight of the Birdman
LucasLaughing replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Thanks! And good eye, that is the tiara piece. Simple? B-but I used so many jumper plates You're right, though, there's nothing too elaborate about the architecture. Thanks for the compliment on the fig posing; that's something I always try to pay attention to. Thanks! I think Star Wars is filled with gratuitous violence, ie severed hands and heads (or watch the ROTJ space battle and start counting how many people are on the capitol ships) but the violence is often sanitized and/or bloodless. I don't want to portray war as being clean or bloodless, however... Thank you! The throat cut is silent, quick and relatively painless. Good call on the foliage; I'm incorporating both that and an open back into my imminent freebuild As a sidenote, I used this picture from wookiepedia as the inspiration for my architecture: Source: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Bothawui -
[SoNE Ep. VI] Tracked on the Farm Stead
LucasLaughing replied to Yzalirk's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Good work soldier - welcome aboard! Exactly! The Empire has been around for 20+ years; there are plenty of bad apples who abuse their power, but most of us soldiers joined for the right reasons. -
Thanks! Thanks guys! I'm glad you like the humor ... I try to balance some of my darker entries with less heavy stuff Hah, yeah, that seemed to be a trend. Thanks!

Sarge and I had only been back on the Avenger for a few hours when the Captain came in. Captain Parth: I’ve got a mission for you two. One of ISB’s deep cover agents on Bothawui has been compromised. They don’t have any assets currently in the area, and I don’t mind having ISB owe us a favor. The Sarge: You want us to rescue their agent? Captain Parth: Yes. Your objectives are to destroy a pair of anti-air positions so that we can land reinforcements, then link up with the agent and keep him alive until the reinforcements arrive. Oh, and keep an eye out for the bounty hunter while you’re there. Birdman: Roger. How will we get past the AA ourselves? Captain Parth: We’ll insert you via wingsuit. You’ll drop from a ship at high altitude, then glide down to the target. The suits have a stealth coating and silent repulsorlifts, so you should be all but invisible to their defenses. The Sarge: Sounds good. Do we have an image file of the agent in questions? Captain Parth: Negative, but I’ve uploaded a list of possible rendezvous points into your datapads. Once you’re on the ground, the agent will let you know where to meet. He, or she, will also use one of several code phrases, depending on the situation. I’ve also uploaded those onto your datapads. Get suited up, your shuttle leaves in thirty minutes. Several hours later, on Bothawui... I love these wingsuits. I've put in enough practice hours that it almost feels like an extension of my own body. As I approach the target, my training takes over and my hands seem to move of their own accord. Left hand activates the repulsorlifts and brings me to a near hover. Right hand activates 1 of 2 harness release switches. Right hand puts suit into standby hover mode. Left hand activates second harness release switch, and now I’m free of the wingsuit. As I land, I eject my vibroblade from my right wrist gauntlet. I neutralize the first guard, even as I sense the second guard reacting and going for his sidearm. He’s fast… ...but I'm faster. I drag the second guard out of the way and go through the checklist. The wingsuit doesn’t have enough power to get me airborne again, but it does have a handy self-destruct charge. I’ll set it for proximity as I leave. An ISB security spike downloads the contents of the targeting computer onto my datapad. I cut the power cable to the AA turret, collect the guards’ weapons, and get ready to move. The Sarge: Status? Birdman: Objective complete. The Sarge: Meet me at RV point Bravo Gamma Three. Birdman: Copy. Out. I check my datapad; the RV point is just a few blocks from here. I slip into the shadows. Time to go hunting. To be continued..... Update- part two posted: Bothawui Battle Blues ---------------------------------------------------- The building:

That transport looks great! It still has the feel of the Kenner transport, but yours looks like less of a death trap.

Hey Birdman, I spy with my little eye: something blue! The water. Correct! Okay, Crash, I spy with my little eye: something brown! The rock. Right again! Another planet. Another day wasted looking for the bounty hunter. We all dealt with the boredom in different ways. Howdy, Sarge. You guys have any luck down here? Negative. Sarge, have we considered the possibility that the bounty hunter doesn't want a card? Maybe he'd like a poem instead? A poem? Yeah! Birdman could write him a poem... I could do it, Sarge. I wrote you a poem just now. ..... Roses are red. Roses are gray. Everything is gray. My helmet is broken. He's got a gift, Sarge. He's like one of those ancient warrior poets. Really, though, my optics are fried. I can't see a thing. Alright; I've got to get back to the ship and do some admin work anyway. Birdman, come with me. You two, link back up with Delta company and finish the search. ---------------------------------- The whole thing. Hopefully the tiny bit of overhang is okay...

[SoNE Freebuild] 6-4 Boarding Party
LucasLaughing replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Very cool build - excellent greebling and little details on the hull! I like the idea of a mean, stubby little ship that gets fired from an ISD. As for the inspiration - shall I call you Mr. White?- 10 replies

[SoNE Ep VI] (2nd build) Ticket to Ride
LucasLaughing replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Thanks! I tried a bunch of different ideas for the junk, so I'm glad it turned out. That's really interesting about the soundtrack. I'm tempted to put the Empire soundtrack on a CD for an upcoming road trip ... Thanks! Thank you! As soon as I saw the possible locations for Ep VI, I knew I wanted to build the Ord Mantell hovertrain. Thanks!! Thank you! The eye is indeed supposed to be a dianoga, like in the Death Star.- 10 replies

[SoNE Ep. 6] Searching in the logs... but it's gone...
LucasLaughing replied to Wedge09's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Wow! When I first saw this, I thought 'this must be a freebuild posted in the wrong place; there's no way that's 16x16. You do an awesome job invoking the depths of a space station - I especially like the angled beams and the way they connect to the upper wall. And, again, excellent work making the 16x16 look much larger! -
[Note - anyone who owned a Nintendo-64 should play this soundtrack whilst reading my entry] "Join the Empire," they said. "See the Galaxy," they said. “Spend the better part of a day traveling through a city-sized salvage yard on an absurdly dangerous hover train,” they most certainly did not say. And yet here we are. We’re dispatched following reports of an explosion and fighting at one of the large salvage plants. Intel informs us that it appears a hover train has crashed into the building. Next, they let us know that we’ll have to ride a hover train in ourselves, as it’s too dangerous to land at the plant. So, we head out; Romeo up front, Crash in the middle, and yours truly securing the aft; what choice do we have? The bitter, stinging scent of chemicals is overpowering, despite the filters in our helmets. If I had any illusions about living through this war, I might be worried about cancer down the line. Instead, I just hang on through the sharp turns, not eager to meet any of the native fauna. We reach the salvage plant eventually. The building has definitely seen fighting, but there's no sign of the combatants, and no sign of the bounty hunter. I wonder if they'll upgrade us to first class for the trip back.

[SoNE ep. VI] The Sweet Smell of Flowers
LucasLaughing replied to Lord Tyrus's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
This is a great Felucia build, but my favorite part is the conversation between the troopers! I always like stories that give an alternative to the "faceless evil stormtrooper," so I'm looking forward to seeing what other 'trouble' these two get into -
[SoNE Ep. VI] Mad jungle search
LucasLaughing replied to MstrOfPppts's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Now *this* is Felucia. I love how you have the plants towering over the troopers; it really adds to that feeling of being stuck in a strange jungle. The orange flowers are my favorite - they're recognizable as flowers, but also look completely alien. Nice work!- 15 replies

[SoNE Ep. VI] 1 - When did the killer become the hero?
LucasLaughing replied to BEAVeR's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Another excellent build! I really like the amount of detail you've put into the cockpit. In particular, I like the Head's Up Displays and the pilots' chairs. As others have mentioned, very creative solution for dealing with the size restriction. I think pilot players have their work most cut out for them in episodes like this, so your work around is very clever. Your story continues to be very engaging, and I'm looking forward to seeing where you take it next!- 20 replies

[SoNE Freebuild5] Back from Endor
LucasLaughing replied to markus1984's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
These are a pair of amazing scenes - very well built! They both have a very authentic Star Destroyer feel, and I really like how the storm troopers are carrying all of their gear as they enter - it gives them that "tired post-mission" look. As usual, your builds are very inspiring - thanks! -
[SoNE Ep VI] Sunrise on Felucia
LucasLaughing replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Oh man, that's a rad idea. My state just legalized a certain ... herb ... so it might be time for me to get some black lights and lava lamps. Thanks guys! I think you're right about the base. I was worried about the scene getting too busy if I added too much ground cover, but a bit more probably wouldn't have hurt. Thanks! It was fun going through my trans bins and picking out parts to use. -
For reasons that are utterly beyond me, we've been pulled off the front lines and tasked with delivering a message to some bounty hunter. Command wasn't sure how much of a head start the bounty hunter had, so we decided to visit the third planet on his flight plan. So far, nothing on the scanner. Ah well, I guess this is better than getting shot at... ...although I do prefer a place where the plants seem less interested in my passing. We'll poke around a little longer here and then, assuming we don't get eaten by a flower, move on to a different planet.

Hah, I love the Portal/Yoda mash-up! This is a very cool build - thanks for taking the time to put this together.

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion
LucasLaughing replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I'd been lurking on Eurobricks for a while, and SoNE finally gave me a good enough reason to sign up for the site. I hadn't been building many MOCs in the year or so before SoNE, and I've found that it's really inspired me to start building again. It's also allowed me to fully embrace my inner Star Wars nerd The highlight for me has been other builders who have encouraged me to make each entry better with thoughtful comments and encouragement, and inspired me with their own awesome builds. Thanks also to the mods/judges for all of their hard work! Long live the Empire! -

SoNE Contest Episode V: Secret Plans
LucasLaughing replied to Lobot's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Well done, fellow Imps, and thanks to the mods and judges for helping to keep this contest going! I would like to have the new tag, please. -
Thanks Markus! I tried a few different techniques for the tree roots, but ended up really liking how the minifig arms looked - I'm glad others liked them too! I've always had the same gripes about both the bamboo and the leaf elements, but I do really like how they look put together. You are not mistaken - good eye! Yeah, that's the one thing I wish I'd had time to add. I figured maybe they're at the edge of the forest, so the trees are less dense That's a good suggestion - I like the idea of making the forest feel more alive, although I'm not sure I could stoop to using the animals from the Friends line I appreciate your other feedback as well; I just got my first smart phone, so if I can find a good stop motion app there just might be a movie one of these days!
