A somber processional indeed. As always, the trees are nicely done.

That is an excellent looking building, I really like how you hung the light especially. -- not necessarily the way Dugal pictured the Holyman's chambers, but very cool indeed. IC: upon hearing of the good bishop's death, the MacLean estate has vowed to construct three orphanages in his honor. We mourn one of Historica's great men.

Haha, this one is a great build, with a fun story. Excellent job!

Reviewing the front post here, that is a real blast from the past. Maybe some of the newer avalonians will take a crack at some lots now. Also, I think it may be OK to peal off a few of those claims made in 2011 or 2012 that were never built.

Kabel brings up a general problem that GoH has been facing for the last few months, and I think it was unfortunate that the bow broke on this build, a great build, but one of the few builds of yours that fell under the category Kabel is talking about. Lately there has been some great builds from a lot of people, but at the same time they are less and less GOH. For example, many don't even state where the MOC is located, why something might be happening, or who / what is in the MOC. Many of these MOCs are MOCs from other sites / tournaments. Whereas that is OK, we would like to know how they fit into the general world that the community has built. The project was formed for a few major reasons -- to improve building skills in the history forum and to create a community project around a common setting. Whereas lately building skills are at an all time high, that community story is flagging. In comparison to LOR, our story is much more user generated than leadership generated, and that had worked for the past couple years, we just seem a little story-dry right now. Now that is not to say the great builders have to become great storytellers also, but it does help to put some of these builds into more context with the overall community. Again, I think Vitreolum took a shot here for everyone's past history, this really is a fantastic build. As for this MOC, and a few suggestions that could help bridge that gap between stellar build and stellar build with importance to our story: I would have been fine with a slight adjustment to the title saying something like, Historica history 101: Killing King Kalidis of Kaliphlin. And then claim it was a MOC from the history of a guild / or historica in general, which is a good way to do battles and major political mocs, and have them tie into the general story without significantly altering the present beyond the capabilities of one builder. (IE: killing the present king of historica would have dire consequences! Killing a king 500 years ago would not) Although if these are your present characters doing it, then I would just add a little note something like " they traveled to depose soandso, who had named himself king in the absence of the King of all historica) It doesn't have to be huge, just something to give it a place in the community story. a few lines can give it relevance.

Very cool. I like the upsidedown plate for the bubbly effect. Nice little build. uh oh, looks like we may have to invade the swamps to teach those guys a lesson! haha.

I always shoot Lego with the zoom, I just stand far back in the room. I prefer to shoot with the 300mm zoom, but lately I have been using just the 200mm ( that same 70-200 you bought). The 50mm f 1.8 is great, I have a 35mm f 1.4, which I like to use also. Surprisingly, Nikon has great kit lens, so you can't go wrong starting there. Sadly, I bought a large photo box setup, but I keep building builds that don't fit inside the box... and I am not too sure the lights are strong enough. -

Ska is happy. I only have a speedlight, but when I have some spare money I plan on upgrading my lighting for a studio setup, I have always been a handheld photographer though, actually Lego is probably the most challenging thing for me to photo. I have always been interested in how to bounce light... another hobby I have had to really put on hold while trying to knock out this dissertation. -

Throw a cape on it, the front looks "ok". As for the storyline, that could be a possible enchantment, but a powersuit makes no sense in our setting. -
Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

As someone who went crazy and bought parts for four 50 fig regiments, let me tell you that it is very hard to get those guys all in one build, unless you are doing a major battlefield. In the Wither Woods battle we still had units that never made it on the field because there was no room! Let me get through a destination wedding this weekend (I am at the age where everyone you know is desperate to get married... this is like the 4th wedding this semester) and I will go look at the list and do a readjustment (we had a few people drop) along with add some more builds. -

Update for those helping with the introduction challenge for Challenge 4 -- I am going to move the date for intro builds back to the end of January. I would like to launch the challenge during the first week of Feb -- theoretically we will have judged Chal 3 by then. Also pushing back the date helps a lot of you who are in the Christmas crunch, and frankly, I am swamped with work right now. Thank you everyone who has volunteered. And we can still take a few more if anyone is interested. -
Sad to see you go, I hope you get a chance to come back! Stay safe, and best of luck where life takes you! I thought the same thing.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Welcome cookiesdad. There are apparently a few mage schools. There is a pretty good one in Eastgate (Which I am actually building for a battle right now), and I thought someone said we were putting one in Petraea. A third one can't hurt, how the heck would we have a tri-wizard tournament without a third school anyway? lol. -

A couple things: 1) All those who are building for our Kaliphlin prelude, we can go ahead and knock back the due date to the 1st of the year because Challenge III will be lasting that long, there is no need to rush it. However, if you finish sooner that is great too! 2)I will be away for the next two weeks starting Wednesday, so I will be late to respond to anyone who asks questions or sends me a message. -
Very cool! I am not sure if anyone else has tried this yet, but you did it very well!

The way the challenges work, you would pick a side. The two teams are competing with one another, so you couldn't do challenge C for both sides. -
Free Build Registration (2nd Quarter,Locking soon!)
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Just a note -- don't post new builds to this thread. Post them to quarter 3. The only reason this thread is open is for people to record builds from October 1st and before, just in case they forgot to do so.- 113 replies

Third Quarter Free Build Registration October 2nd 2014 to May 1st, 2015 (Book II, Quarter 3) What is this thread? This is the thread where YOU register your free build if you wish it to be scored for your guild. Why are you doing this to us? Despite Rogueang’s wonderful MOC index, the guilds project has become quite large. The core leaders feel that we need a self-indexing mechanism that will allow us to grade free builds more efficiently. This is what we have come up with. What do I need to do? Just simply write the following information In a NEW post: Name of Moc with link to the thread | Name of Builder | Guild you belong to IE: Obsidian Spike |ZCerberus | Nocturnus Do not write anything else. What counts as a “Free Build?” Great question! Any GOH build that was not entered in one of the official main challenges. All free builds must have their own thread, and there must be a link to that thread provided here. Do not comment on builds in this thread, please do that on the MOC’s own thread. Can I just post in my guild thread and leave it at that? Whereas you are welcome to do so, if the build does not make it into the index , it will not be scored. Can I put up an entry for another guild member's build? If that builder has disappeared and we are getting near the deadline, this would be allowed. Past registrations: Quarter 1 Quarter 2

Very nice! Reminds me a lot of the Repunzel tower in Tangled, but I am sure it will be darker! CBB, welcome back! -
You don't need it still, but +1 to all claims. Looks great! I instantly thought of WoT when I saw it, then read what you wrote! haha. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the book as much as we enjoy looking at your builds!

Such an outstanding build, I had to comment on it from vacation. You have really set the tone for Coastal Kaliphlin here. Magnificent build, so much going on, so many great details... then you flip it around and you built a whole wall -- excellent!!! This is one of the best builds of anything I have ever seen, and as always, great photography work here.

It never left, just the builders who were doing it primarily did. Mediterranean away, man! If you put them on the southeastern coastal areas, it will gel nicely with what is coming.
