I wish it was grey stone... the govenor has requisitioned all grey pieces for his own fortress, so red beard's fortress has been done in mostly tans and browns, i guess it is made out of sandstone or something. lol. I just had alot from the original set to use. I am still having trouble figuring out a door system for it, and am running out of tan to complete it. but it should be done next week probably.

Taken from yahoo movies entry for Pirates of the Caribbean 3. boooo.... I rather they keep it POTC. they can always let the swiss family robinson fight chinese pirates.....

You did an excellent job with that hull. Its just so boxy that not much can be done with it. I love the mortars and the whole concept in general. I like how you used slopes on their sides to create the bow, that is an interesting design. its a shame lego made this thing so short, anyone know if it is that short in the movies?
-
are you sure the empress is being used in POTC 3? Wouldn't it then become Pirates of the Far East? lol ... not that there are not junks in my pirate world, but i am under the impression POTC is trying to keep some sort of geography reality.... but then again i wondered why it was the "east india company" involved in the west indies... though there was no west india company in england, i thought the movie had made a mistake... i am pretty sure the EIC did not have much to do with the west indies... but i could be wrong.

I think the captain hat makes a good 19th century admiral hat, have you seen how aweful those things are? lol. good work, but i don't think i am as skilled with a knife, did you have to glue them onto the minifigs?

COol, the colors flow together well... and it looks like it came together well. I like how you have placed your guns below deck completely, looks like their is little headroom (as their shouldn't be much anyway!) Some critisisms and comments: First, i think you need a mizen mast on the rear, then the ship may look more balanced. Second, the extended bow seems weird, at least to me, if you added the mizen in the back to balance it maybe this would not seem as odd anymore! but some bows were extended pretty far, so i don't think this detracts too much from the ship. just a personal preference here. third, the second quarterdeck on the stern is a bit high, but ok. Alot of people here are not fans of high decks and tend to like more modern looking ships which are built with a level deck in corvette style... however I am not one of those people, i like the older feel and the decks, though your second deck seems to high for me. But it is ok.... forth, and i am not a realist when it comes to MOCs so i don't care, but others may point out that your rigging is wrong and it should go side to side. I think it looks ok though. Overall, i think this is a pretty fun MOC. and it is good to see you post one, it adds to the community. But my major complaint it that you launched a ship without a name!!!! :) you can't do that! its your baby, give her a name! Looking forward to more of your MOCs. Edit, i just realized you are from western PA, is that PA as in Pennsylvania? if so where? I'm up in Erie

I agree Evil Willy, that would be a great fleet to game with! Thanks for posting pics Landlubber! I like the lanterns and the extension. Can't wait to see more! I hope you bought all those SES's when they came out... thats alot of money if you aquired them more recently!

White hulls are still popular today.... some ships were definitely white. Red, i have seen red tall ships, not lego red, its darker then that but still red. I really dont have the time to dig for pictures, but if this thread is going after this weekend still i might. lol Anyway... thanks for finding more artwork by that guy, phes. But, this makes me wonder, since he painted that picture in the "right" colors, why did he paint the other wrong? or were they really different colors?

I know that this pirate community has a life on its own, and I think it's great what it evolved into. But do you really want to seperate it even more? Just a thought - and it's just 8 votes as of now, don't judge too soon ;-) i think we've taken the subforum concept for pirates far enough... yet one more step, like creating a pirate community, and you basically have an entirely new website.... i also think this concept of subforums is completely missing her intended target. the idea was to give each section in lego world a different corner on EB but with a strong emphasis on keeping it all in one large community, so people would not hide in their own corner and forget about the rest. but that is exactly what's going on with pirates i'm afraid... Blashphemy! I don't know, there are some of us that venture outside this port and post around the other eurobricks forums...I should really post more to the historical theme section.. i have some iron clads and some johny thunder vrs the nazis i wanted to post over there... for right now, i am concentrated here. But i do read the boards of the other themes, as I am sure others do too. I guess we could all try to be more multi-dimentional and branch out, but i dont think there is anythig wrong with our community here. i still feel we are part of eurobricks. This is also made more evident by all the not so pirate lovers that come in and talk with us too!

Ug this is an awful set, i am glad you salvaged something from it lol. now that i see the baseplate, i see it only has one side water, so i guess it wasn't an island lol. It looks like it could be part of a larger establishment, like a coastal town or fishing villiage if you wanted to build the rest, it looks big enough to serve a local population, and perhaps have some pirates stop in for a quick drink via small craft or row boat. When the imperials arive, they better look out though! lol. good use of an otherwise bad piece!

cool, nice to see you here! is the ship in the back an extended BSB? also, would be cool to get a better look at some of your MOCs that you have displayed there. Welcome aboard. How did you hear about us? perhaps phes is doing his job? :P (j/k phes we know you spam every lego site imaginable to bring raw sailors here to become men.)

well i have seen red hulled ships at tall ship gatherings. not as bright as lego red, but still pretty bright. Would have been nice if Lego would have made a wide white hull, that is another hull color that seems to have existed in regular amounts. I know it is just artwork, but why would someone make all the sails and the hulls those colors? abstract art did not really come around until the 1900s... i guess more would have to be looked up about the artist
-
Usually I would say most warships were probably not too colorful, and did not have colored sails unless there was a special reason... so i was suprised to find this engraving of John Paul Jones famous battle.... looks like lego made these ships! LOL so maybe red hulls are not so off sometimes...

Those ports are usually in cities though... or large trading establishments what set is that baseplate from? Its a nice small island (?) and looks like it has good playability. that and i like to drink, so taverns are nice.

What do you think of the HMCS Starwind
SkaForHire replied to Admiral Starwind's topic in Pirate MOCs
the Starwind probably would have full drydock facilities, and not built on log rollers, but smaller crafts were sometimes rolled out on logs, but most sat in frames first. -
i dont know if that is a negative or a positive... but i think you are wrong, if TLG made new pirates they would have less pieces then my tower LOL... like the whole sides would be one piece, or even the whole floor with sides and ceiling inclueded in one big box piece. and the pirates would end up flesh toned or something horrible....
-
The SES has some gray parts, and not a little bit...I hope they use old colours for re-releases, the new bley looks to new for a ship like the SES.... lol bley is blue grey! i was lost until now.... eh, i dont really care about colors along as they go together well. It would be nice if we could get more grey, but alas its discontinued for now (you can tell by the amount of old grey is on pick a brick walls! all those pieces are discontinued!)
-
THis is a nice brig. I think you could have gotten away with more cannons had you wanted, (maybe 8 a side even it looks like?) but it is good how it is. I hope you build both. I am a Starwind supporter, i think it is a good line ship (would need more guns in real life, but in the legoverse, this is definitely a ship of the line type ship.)

What do you think of the HMCS Starwind
SkaForHire replied to Admiral Starwind's topic in Pirate MOCs
Dry docks were mostly frames, like if you were building a wood house today, but they would have the U shape in them to hold the ship, and then they would push the frames over and into the water to launch the hull, or if you had money they would use either a crane or some other kind of pully system. -

Imperial Guards: Bluecoat and redcoat uniforms
SkaForHire replied to Dreamweb's topic in LEGO Pirates
i dont suppose you could post a copy of the sticker template you used to make the yellow uniforms? Those are great, though i can not think of an actual army that used yellow uniforms... still i would make a unit or two of those! they look good as your band... if you have the template i would be very interested in getting it. those look awesome. I love seeing huge armies.... wish i had one! (actually may WW army is pretty big! but don't have a imperial army nearly as splendid as yours!) -
where did you see that this ended? because look what i found today Looks like they didnt sell it again

What do you think of the HMCS Starwind
SkaForHire replied to Admiral Starwind's topic in Pirate MOCs
Sounds awesome! Don't forget to add the minifigs doing construction work during the photo shoot. ;-) Will this dock be anything major or just a backdrop sort of deal? doh! you stole my next MOC! lol i have one in my budding little imperial town i am working on.... I love the idea, can't wait to see your dry dock! its something you do not see often! -
I meant to say something the other day, your avatar rocks the house. I love it, thats the body i would have chosen, but you have the perfect face for him, and the chicks make it classic. I love it. I don't even want an avatar because mine would be puny in comparison.... :) i wish i could find a new CS period... lol too expensive.. and my fiance is a mac head, so cant get any software from her!
