Interesting but wargaming has become so much more advanced since this... However this sounds like a great game for "weapons and warriors" if anyone remembers those things... I don't know if they made it outside of the states but you had figures and marble shooting balistas and cannons... it would be hard to play this game with lego asyou could not fully knock lego men over with cannons... so it would come down to a tedious game of shoot alot and capture.... but its neet to look at this piece of history. Thanks for the link!!! makes me want to write a paper on the history of wargaming...

You know, I don't really agree with your speeds... they don't seem to make sense in relative size... (I got to thinking this when I looked at the charlie thread and you said charlie couldn't out run dame...) The medium ships with full sails (like the charlie) should move faster then large men of war (like Dame) 2 reasons off the top of my head: weight in armament. The Dame is caryinng more guns than the charlie may weigh!!!! lol (sarcastic) The overall weight of Dame should hinder it to being slower than charlie. plus... the mass part of your equation doesn't work out. First, the Dame would have a much deeper draft than the Charlie, but this cannot be represented because the floor or table is the waterline. this draft would slow it down considerably. I think unfortunately an equation that uses mass or size of hull to calculate speed for lego ships can never be quite accurate. Though I am glad you tried, maybe i am wrong... but can you post some of the sizes and speeds of the real ships that you used so we can see?

I lived in canada for a bit so even now I still spell things wrong ... like honour, colour, labour..... One word I can not stand seeing in its british form: connexion (sp?) its connection! lol.

Well, i like it. Its good to see people taking the theme in other directions. The more the merrier. Gives me something else to look at then historical models :P Not that i dont extremely like the historical stuff, but its good to see new stuff too. keep up the good work. I would agree with the purple pants... I would make the units purple... but thats just me. good work.

so you use TLG's pick a brick online feature, how is that price wise compared to bricklink?
-
what languages are all of these in? and i wonder if I can get them in the states? My French is so rusty... its hard to think that ten years ago i was almost fluent when living in Canada.
-
more ports i love it! lol also... i dont think mixing grays is a bad thing, i agree that it makes it look more like a structure. Also, getting enough bley or gray pieces to complete a structure is becoming increasingly difficult as of late.
-
I was wondering where those white cylinders came from, the last time i was at pick a brick, they had a ton of the gray ones, but never seen white. This MOC is great, one of the best light houses I have seen. the colors are perfect, and it is a good size compared to the minifig scale and ship scale. Interesting how so many people are building port projects nowadays.... i guess we need something to raid with out pirates!!!!

Would anyone have the exact color model (preferable for Photoshop) for the dark blues? I think i found a bunch of dark blue torsos and i want to stick some uniforms on them, but there are none in the library utilizing dark blue that I can find. -
wow i have not seen some of these pieces before lol, especially the small scenery pieces like berries and different color birds... where does Aves Hawthorne's torso come from? If i can figure out how to resize I will post something...

Strike your colors, you bloomin' cockroaches!

excellent, good luck with the stern though.... that will be interesting to see what you do, or i suppose you could just decal it to make it easy.... -
The problem was there were no real bad guys and the 2nd year was weak... why not add another ship and a rival clan? or heck a British castle to sack! It is a shame, such cool sets... such lost potential... in my region of the USA we don't have them any more and they never needed to go on sale. Where my fiance lives, she has a lego store that barely kept them on the shelves either..... but i have heard that it is different all over the country let alone the world.... So it seems to be very hit or miss by locale. I thank all you folks across the pond for buying so many, this allowed us to actually get the sets! i just want to note that dino attack had some solid sets... not what i am interested in, but in the right direction i bought a few for parts for my mecha...

man great work everyone.... I wish i had a decent printer to print some of these.... I really am tempted to go buy some minifigs.... BTW i am interested in Napoleonic Wars... just more interested in the War of 1812 between USA and GB :P I could never field armies of anything large enough to be the continent wars that is for sure. I would like to see some marines, alternate (other than lego) officers and perhaps RN or USN seamen.... that would be interesting.... Any French or Spanish Navy would be nice too. (I haven't checked the torso index in a couple weeks, so they may be up there.....) I am interested in seeing more Navy stuff... but The army stuff looks really cool, and I wish i had a dang printer that would be good for this sort of thing!!!!

Yeah, I will not in the near future but sometime after graduation in a couple weeks.

it says eight because thats what I had here, i added 3 more. In my main collection i have around 20... long story short is when I moved out for college, I left my lego behind, and then after a year started to miss it and began to rebuild. I have rebuilt too much lol... i have the hulls and masts to make about 6 more large ships here.... just not enough pieces to build the ships lol. I am moving back home temporarily soon and thats where my ships will collide... both "fleets" lol. I will take a look at the pirate gaming thread, I think i have read or contributed to it before... also thank you for the cannon link

Actually, the flagpole on the fort is not collapsed, it folds up its actually about four different flag poles that go in different directions, shelf size made me fold it up. :) Now that I think about it, bonapart, I guess I have not posted much in a long time... and probably some people have never seen any of my MOCs lol. I think I have posted four or five here but they were all last year I know that. But I have been busy lately, and plan on giving each one its own write up and thread (probably at a rate of one or two a week starting in a couple weeks) as for garrisons... well phes you saw the bag!!!! :) I still need more though it seems I do game design (or at least used to, mainly board games but some table tops... I have been trying to find funding for launching my company for a couple years now) So I have my own set of rules I have been play testing on and off for a couple years. Brickwars is fun, but i think it needed an extra mile for the hard core gamer. If I can't get my rules squared away in time, i think we may just use a modified brickwars.... and of course with full destruction! also it will probably be squad based with multiple players playing squads against me "dungeon mastering" the whole imperial force. (they will probably play different pirate bands) For ships (which I am debating doing a "last battle" with them too) I have used Evil Stevies rules... which are quite fun, but I want to work out a more tweaked version of that also. I think cannon caliber and weight would be an interesting add... (which reminds me, anyone remember a thread that debated what size the lego cannon would be if they were to scale? I have been looking for it...) But if I do a full out battle with my ships this summer I will have to rent a conference room or something.... as I have at least 25 lego hulled ships and many more. I probably actually don't have the minifigs to man those vessels though either lol. anyway I tend to design stuff that will be useful for war gaming right now since I know its getting messed up later, so I have not been as detail oriented as I have been in the past.

First, this is one of the nicest ships I have scene.... i love the curved idea. Second I must ask what you mean about the British Yellow and Black design, I was not aware they used yellow paint, I have seen white and "clear" painted on the sides but not so much yellow as per say... but anyway.... back to mods for the ship.... the way it is built now looks a lot like a 16th or early 17th century ship during the golden age of piracy. however.... the way you curve the back makes me think more late 17th century - early 19th century corvette, and those did not have raised castles to such an extent that your sterncastle is raised. However your forecastle is about the right size for a corvette. as a vessel of the golden age I think the doors are good, though two may be excessive. If you were to change it to be more corvette-ish then i would raise the deck two blocks and make the doors smaller spaces with steps down. But I like how you have it now. I would perhaps raise the forecastle a block, but that would be all i would do to it to keep it in the 16th-17th century. also, is your cabin accessible? I am not a big on accessibility my self, but on such a beautiful ship I would like to know if it was empty inside or not.

well many of them are complete and they just need pictures... but ultimately they need to be set up in a town setting in a couple months after i complete a good deal of "mundane" buildings to make the rest of the town. and then by the end of summer I am going to have a large battle scene, where depending on my wargamers the future of Port Danielle will be at stake. I won't give the plot away on why there will a cataclysmic clash in my newly build city just yet (or who will be the two sides clashing), but I will say that my non story line reason is that no matter where I move to for my next semester I will most likely not be able to transport my collection en masse to the new destination. Most of it will have to go into storage. (The funny thing is those pictures are my secondary collection. One day I will have to go snap a shot of my real ship collection at my mom's house.) I am going to destroy the town because its easier to pack away... so why build it in the first place? because it makes for good pictures, good story, and most important building with lego relieves the stress of school.
-
Hey all, I keep saying that I have stuff I want to show, but really don't have time to do write ups or photo shoots, so I snapped a couple quick pictures last night and uploaded them so I could prove that I really do still build with lego! :P I actually have been busy building my town.... and 2 new ships. Here is the the finished model shelf, all of these i have yet to show here and I will get a write up in the next month or so of each. The Shelf Here is the current ship I am still trying to scrounge up pieces to finish: she is the Christine Next is the Governor's Mansion And then there is the pilot house And then there is the Harbor Battery, next to it is a random house, and behind it is a still unnamed Brig. Next is Fort Danielle Then there is the dockyards (i actually have a photo sesion for this, but need the time to upload and do a writeup story.) And then there is the evil traders association building.... I have yet to name the traders.... but what would a colonial town be without its profiteers? This is their HQ it Port Danielle and their warehouse. Notice that it is fortified to some extents... just proves they are evil. LOL. Next we have a bag full of troops that are waiting to be deployed... behind them is another 55 troops awaiting assignment, but you cant see them either lol. And finally the reason why I haven't done the photo shoots is really lack of space, here you can see a picture durring the construction of the trade building.... my basement is a mess and there is lego everywhere! I am trying to build away the mess... but it seems to be not going anywhere... just when I think I have used a ton of parts.... more appear. You can also see some of my creations are getting overwhelmed by the lego tide... as some of you may recognize my "treetop tower" in the masses of bricks. anyway just thought I would post and show what I have been up to lately.

"Dead Men Tell No Tales" Vignette Contest - Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Norrington's topic in Pirate MOCs
I will too, but I haven't been on the POTC California so it may be different, but the dunking scene is approached from the other side in Florida, as you round the ramparts the dunking scene is on your right. BUT, its pretty awesome anyway... so kudos. I like the captain quarters, but I have never seen the scene with my own eyes, so I can just admire its construction. Again good job. I also enjoyed Norrington's chase scene, and how it was the "classic" version... Just wondering though, do they not chase through the buildings in California? in Florida the chasers are all on balconies in the buildings. How are we judging these, is it an open poll later? or is it a set of judges, and how do i get on the panel? :P I don't have time to create any of my own I don't think. (Nor the available pieces ATM) So I would love to be a judge. -
I like where you are going with this Phes. An alternative, that I suggested about a month ago was that we make a world map or maybe even a sea map with everyone "claiming" territories... and then we would do about the same thing as you are suggesting with upgrading the map... and then it would probably link to a template site with fleet listings, fort listings, a few pictures, and then an external link to the person's website for those who have it or want to tell a story or something. Though I suppose the template page could have a blurb section for a 500 word abstract about your storyline or something.... anyway this sounds promising... as soon as my blood thesis is done I would be willing to help out on it. EDIT: Actually if it was decent enough people could claim sea zones with their fleets, and wage some sort of online war with one another for pirate booty! (I',m actually being kinda sarcastic, but it would be sorta fun)

although transparent would not allow you to put the stickers over torsos that were not plain. Plain (blank) torsos seem hard to come by.

neato, I have a map for my stuff too actually, So I totally understand the need for it. Your l-cad stuff is great when i first saw it i was hoping it was pics from factory so we could buy some of the buildings... hehe. that would have been sweet. Great job, cant wait to see more
