Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions

eh, i thought the emo joke was funny! some ofthe knock offs look really good in pictures.. like Coko and Crazy shop have neat original looking pirate ships... but i think they are of inferior quality... if i could find one dirt cheap i would buy to find out. Coko by far had the pest pirates series... their hulls were 2 part so you could extend them, and large sized in black. the rigging was a direct rip off of lego so it looked sturdy. I wish lego would see that pirates are a viable theme again..... look at all the knock offs and mainstream competitors.... all with pirates line. -
Heres a quick picture of a squad LOL my imperials stand at about 50 blues and 50 reds... and my spanish are incredibly lacking :( i want more, just cant find more. However my US army is big lol but those are WW. I think i may have atleast 200

I only have a moment, so i didnt get to read all the comments yet... but Again, an awesome ship from you! At first when I read that this was "not a serious ship" i was like, what the heck! this thing is awesome... then I saw the pictures in the gallery and decided you are right, it needs one or two more centers and I think this would be one of the most feasible 2 deckers I have seen. Great job, want to comment more, will be back to do so!

I think Arbiter II is the right size for either of those pirates... I think Blackbeard's largest ship was only 32 guns, and not much larger in proportions to the Arbiter II... I am trying to remember what Roberts was caught in... i am pretty sure his largest ship rotted away somewhere off the coast of Africa though.. can't remember how big it was tho... anyway... to the ship... Awesome! I love it. I have always wanted to do a large ship in this color scheme! You pulled it off quite nice! The fold down sides are excellent for "playability" That is a great Idea. I hope you can get your collection out to somewhere not as cramped though... that must be hard to work with! I am glad someone else does stories too... now phes can yell at other people for long posts! :) look forward to more of your ships.

HEadlamps for the win! Also on the subject of drawers... i just bought my fiance two (i am depressed that i buy her more lego than myself lately, her collection is starting to look like a real collection... hence the need for organizers:( well i guess i get custody when we are married ! muhahahaha) anyway... at walmart they were selling 47 drawer organizers like the original one but more big and small drawers for 7 bucks american... which was outstanding considering they usually cost like 20... so you americans should go look for these... most walmarts have the same sales... they were red and were in the hardware section. I would suggest getting them while they are cheep. I also use the same tupperware looking big white draweres from rubber maid or a generic company... -

didn't we review this ship before, is it someone who used to post here that owned it? or was it an internet find... I know i have seen it before, i remember the drumstick cooker thing.... Phes, your the master of all piraty things, am I delirious or have we seen this one before? Maybe I saw it on lugnet... also , we should mount a counter attack and save phes from the plank! How dare this ebayer feed our fearless leader to the sharks! -
My understanding of the acronym BURP was big ugly rock piece? (though i havent checked up on acronyms for years, but thats what it used to stand for! ) if that is right then you may need glasses. on both sides of the front gate are BURPS... though i have heard the term used for just large pieces that could be made with smaller pieces... and i think there are some noticeable pieces that fit that description also. Like the tower that juts from the main tower... its one piece it looks like... but.... there are a lot less giant pieces than was expected!

It looks fun... thats about all i can say. Why not make a second human faction? You can keep the undead in there also, but i would like to see another human faction. Like the days where TLG would be circulating 3 factions a year for space and castle (and ultimately pirates for a bit) also, i think this shows TLG's newest tendency.... Humans can't fight humans. Some previous examples: Dino-attack, exo-force, new aquaraiders, vikings... no human on human violence.... I wonder if we will ever see it again now that castle is moving away from it. I do think this is a better step then the previous themes.... instead of fighting giant bionicle creatures, at least this new kingdom is fighting hordes of mini-fig scaled baddies. That is a plus. And I suppose TLG can put out new mythical armies to challenge King X. But i think to put out new castles they are going to have to introduce a new human faction... but as we have seen lately TLG hasn't kept a non-licensed theme three years running in a while. (KK2 might have been close?) The castle looks nice though, i will probably go poor buying one. All in all, it seems to be better than KK so that is a step in the right direction.

I like it, small, simple... reminds me of a side port at a major town with canals or something... cool.

well if you look at SES prices on ebay today you will find 2, the one has a buy it now at 215, that is almost what that set would have been worth in 2000... complete only missing box could go for 250 bucks... the other SES listed today is not even at 100... with the re release of 6285, prices slumped as one could technicly build an SES and sell it on ebay out of salvaged 6285 parts and bricklink ordered parts, which artificially stimulated the market. on top of that, people that were like "oh i just need to get one big ship!" bought the rereleased BSB... driving prices down on SES... anyway little history of SES economics there.... lol
-
Well SES prices have not gone back to their prices of years past, but high for now anyway. I would agree that there is definitely a market in adult fans, but the question is how big... We have discussed the pirates coming back at the time of the third movie a lot since before the second one came out... I think they would have announced a new pirates line if they were going to have one out by may (thats still the American release date i believe for P3) Arguably kids will ask for P3 merchandise, and megablocks is still cheaper than lego... so perhaps lego would not benefit from a pirate line. however, i think they would get a number of secondary sales in months after the film as kids want to add new ships to their fleets to fight jack sparrow... so it could go either way. Anyway you have it, I would like to see new pirates not the old ones again, but i would accept them if that was the only choice. (just give me three new ships and a fort and I will shut up for 5-10 more years!)

i just throw the parts into my mecha or not usable bin.... i don't even build the stinking things. I like the catapults though, they are at least ok... Its just too bad the themes don't mesh very well... i mean same time period, but the vikings look way too different to stick their fortress and aux wagons next to new castle stuff. Though if i can find new castle stuff on sale, i might buy some.... i want castle figs for various reasons...
-
yes they did, very much so. Though they would not have been used on a ship like this so extensively. Plus this ship is rigged wrong, that is an arabic rigging. Europeans did not start using this rigging until the late 16th century, and even then they used primarily square rigged. This is a pirate ship with an odd rigging... sorry castle, just cause you stick guys with armor on it doesn't mean its castle theme!!! :P no but it is an awesome ship, i wish i had one.
-
Well i haven't had much time to visit, or track ebay in the last couple months... so when i checked today for pirate stuff i noticed a couple things... first, the price hump, does it seem to anyone else that pirates are selling for about 20% more than they were this summer? Do you all think this is because of the holidays? and second... whats with the amount of clone being sold... if you search lego pirate ship you almost get 50% clone! though there is a crazy shop for 50 bucks american after shipping... i was tempted but our previous discussions on clone brands have turned me off to the idea.

Well when I am spending i do it in spurts, having no real income and living off student loans and a laughable hourly wage for my assistantship, I shouldn't be spending money on lego. But i do. When I get away with it (when the fiance isn't looking!) i probably average about $400 american a year on actual pirate stuff. Another 600 for multiple pick a brick buckets, exoforce, or random castle i might be collecting.
-
deer god, if i only had the money! :P haha. No... Not aloud to buy lego right now :(

Hey guys, just checking in... looks like alot of great new MOCs out there!! I have been super busy lately, so its been hard to build or post, but I enjoy coming and looking at what you guys have been up to... I see some other pirates fans are on Hiatis too... hope everyone comes back around christmas time so we can all catch up on what everyone has been doing.... I went down to orlando again this weekend to see my fiance, and stopped at the lego store... low and behold they had exactly one jug of 2x2 gray flags.... you know port covers.... I bought them all! hahaha. So I need to create a ship to use them now! Well I will check in later this week again... maybe I will have something for posting.... Take care mates!

Knockoff/Clone/Imitation Brand Pirate Sets
SkaForHire replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
i have to go to the nearest city tomorow, so i will check it out... but being a small city, we only have one TRU and a KB toy store.... and they rarely get stuff that is not mainstream it seems... -
I have had black pirates in my collection since NBA sets went on sale two years ago... the problem have always been the hands... there are brown hands on some of last years knights kingdom figs.... so they were dismembered upon opening of the box.... its a shame since such a large number of africans were pirates.... i like how they look too.... but i would give up any race of fig to get a few more pirate sets lol

Knockoff/Clone/Imitation Brand Pirate Sets
SkaForHire replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
sorry been busy... thanks for posting.... i saw these on ebay too i think... they look interesting to say the least... \ phes, how much were they in aussie money? and any idea what it translates into american? also, i dont suppose you can ship to the USA for less then the 35 bucks that guy was doing it for? wondering... because i t would be interesting to get my hands on one if it became financially feasable... and if i could find someone to pick one up at a store, some one i trust lol, then i would feel comfortable buying one and doing a full review for everyone here. -
hmm went away for a couple days and this happens! these subs look like good parts for my mech collection... and we can get a musket or two... I think my jury is out until i see the shipwreck...

you have already seen my reply on that thread, so i wont go into detail... I strongly stand by my statement that 5 posts a day would still make this forum worth it. The luxuary that we have 50 a day, makes it an outstanding gathering spot for lego fans, pirate lovers or otherwise.
