  1. my favorite trick! :) and they are relatively inexpensive to do.... if i remember coorectly you need 16 per midsection.... i bought like 400 for five bucks once.... that is way more midsections for my buck!
  2. ::Claps:: BRAVO! Thats why i love this board, so many good designers, i can just look and drool. Sails look good!
  3. Yep its like the original to some degree, though believe it or not i think it has three times more pieces... but then again three times fifty is only 150 lol. still I had to keep some of the main elements of the ship because i have no suitable replacements at the moment... most notably the deck, the front end of the bow, and the portholes. these just require pieces i do not have available to me at the moment. Though I think i like the large portholes if they were the first from the quarterdeck and the bow and then had normal middle ones... they coudl duel as gunports and as cargo doors when loading. but the stupid set doesnt come with enough covers for all of its gun ports! I also found the longer I could make it apear the better... but i did not have enough pieces to go any further. once i have room and can afford parts I hope to atleast build it up to appear like system pirates or an attempt at some sort of reality. I can never build a ship that looks as nice as Mr. Dullin's but I can make one that is better then what i have so far. It is just going to require time, space, and mone... stuff i dont have much of right now :) However, I think this ship is usable as it is now for storytelling, wargaming, and play. Just not display!
  4. I don't think the ships have to be fully crewed, but if you want to leave a note if they are crewed or not that would be cool. Captain Crakheads boat really blows even if you just stick minifigs on it... mine are both modified to be more pleasing. but what ever you do with your sets... and count them the way you feel you would... so if you had 4+ sets that were stock models and you use them in your navy or display them or what not... then yeah they would count... i would assume that most people have atleast a spackle of system pirates and that there whole collection is not 4+ but i suppose we can't discriminate to those who came too late and don't have money for system.
  5. cool, cant wait to see what you have! alot of gamers over here i see! See, I am from the oposite school... the school of geek, where i love multi dice. but i know what you mean about inaccessibility... I will try to limit it, or present an alternate version for the less hard core lol... though I suppose there would have to be a way to do everythign i want with just d6s. Though I think the ultimate dice are d10s, because they can act as percentage dice also! I think if a system were to have just one dice, d10s would be the way to go. Campaigns definitely make games constantly different... So this has to go into the system.
  6. I would say what ever you count in your fleet... I have some converted 4+ stuff i dont use the figs though... so i guess we could say do not count 4+ figs?
  7. Speaking of trying to revive a line... if anyone got the email for taking the LEGO survey from TLG, then there are some answers you need to put into your survey When it gives you some answers to check mark what you would like to see, one answer should definitely be the block: "I would like to see all lego pieces ever made in the brick factory" Think what we may be able to do if we could get hulls and masts on brick factory, MOC pirate ships out the wazoo@! second, there is a field for putting in what you would like to see... this is a no brainer, "Pirates and other original themes" should be put into that form... if enough feedback is given... perhaps we coudl see pirates. anyway i don't know how many of you got the letter from TLC in your email for feedback... but please do it if you did! little off topic, but thought since we were talking about bringing back the theme and in a decent way, this was as good a place as any to post it.
  8. That or i suppose they could just say "small sail boat - 0 guns, rowboat size" if it is custom or "stock small sail boat" if its from the sets.
  9. Cool, this is a good idea, an alternate way may be that someone makes up a "globe" and use it as a site map for different adventures... for example you would list the Archipalego on the map and it would be a link to your adventure strories... and then someone would have a link of where they were on the map and it would take the user to their page, and then so on with each person who wants to participate... but more neat would be refering to the other peoples areas in passing or even their characters (ie: i had some british, you had some british in our "world" my admiral lonshanks or whatever would have sent dispatch to your Admiral Ravensburg about a notorious pirate vandal coming his way or what not...) could be interesting especially if alot of people got involved... we could even circulate minifig king and queen of england to tour various people's colonies.... or a notorious pirate (think kind of like minifig world tour from years ago (random link, not official page)) I mean it woudl be fun for everyone to hold it into your world, but you might get more participation intergrating everyone elses This would also promote people to make story based websites... or websites in general lol. There are not enough in the pirate lego world... plenty of castle sites like that, but not really any pirate sites other then port block ( which hasn't been updated in forever) Just an Idea... but can't wait to see what you have going.
  10. I never thought about paint.... hmm... sometimes you forget the little things exist... think i got it.
  11. So this is acceptable...? i would definitely say yes
  12. like i wrote above, i dont have any software that i know of to downsize it... my tech level is fairly high lol... its just that this is a brand spanking new gaming machine i built, and i dont have much software at all on it... besides battlefield 2 LOL! no imaging software however... so when ever that overall site gets okayed, someone let me know i guess and I will remove that big honking picture.
  13. i have thought about trying this, it looks like it came out pretty good. I must confess i never read Richie's original post, because i thought he was refering to cutting the hulls down the middle.... (yeah some people do this to widen their ships! However Coko bricks have lego clone hulls already split... if i could just find one coko ship i would be extatic, some nice clone models) Thanks for posting, it gives me more confidence to try this...
  14. There are links on both threads, or atleast there were last night when i put them there and made sure they worked :P as for the dingys I would say no to bounty boat because it is just a rowboat... harbor sentry is odd... i mean technically you would never have a rowboat with that big of a cannon (if having a cannon at all) on it... so I dont know... I would say no, as it looks more like this boat is trasporting ordinance rather then using it (only one fig to steer the ship and fire a weapon that probably should take two figs to do proficiently... plus the recoil would knock the boat over... lol. ) then again if it had a small mast then i guess it would be fine, so what is to say it isnt and operational gunboat? I think that it is up to you as the owner of the fleet to count it if you want. In my own, i wouldn't.
  15. i suppose that depends on my tech level. what is deeplinking by the way? also.... while my MOC is much more "legoish" then realist, i think it fits in alot more with what the rest of my fleet currently looks like, sinc i tend to make stuff look alot more like lego then real (cough cough, I'm a horrible modeler) LOL.... just a preference though... if i wanted to be realistic i would end up a perfectionist and keep destroyingthe damn thing every ten minutes... much better to make a goofy looking model... or atleast that is what i tell my sanity. BUT... if you want to see some real proof this hull can be modded into a work of art.... and since we have worshiped Richie Dullin already once today, heres a link to his creation... pretty sweet! hope he doesn't mind! I just wish i knew if he had a recent site.
  16. Cool... I will see if i can get something up soon I was actually looking to detail a system more then brikwars, however hoping to keep it simple. I feel brikwars is pretty fun in itself, and allows for some totally random stuff, which is alot of fun, however, i think it could be a bit more detailed. I don't really like the vehicle system. My hopes was to build a basic minifig system like brikwars, and then put modules into it the first being mecha based and the second being pirate based (love evil stevie, but again i have problems with it) this would allow for ground combat by figs vrs a more detailed mech... Ideally. (i had actually already started a primarily mech based system, but scraped it to start from the bottom up to make it more universal.) I will have to check out BrickMech. I am also playing with modual design for mechs. The biggest goal i want to achieve is to allow the game to be RPG-able. meaning you could technically keep playing missions as your character, buy better parts (perhaps train skills also) and go into missions run either by the group or by a sort of dungeon master. But i want the system to be totally built so that you could just wage a war without playing the RPG part, based on a point value system. one question for all of you gamers, many types of dice or limited types? (like use d6s through d20s or just limit to a couple types.) Whats cool is, i have a programmer friend that would set up a program and database that you could build your stat cards for you mech on your comp and print them before the game, keeps people from having to write out the whole stat card by hand... but thats down the road a bit.
  17. 24a So I decided to post pics of my conversion of 7075. The Kraken's Whip is a pirate ship that ocasionally works as a privateer for the British. Right now she can be spotted taking a British surveying crew around the horn of africa. She is crewed by the famous Privateer Sir Horris Noble. Noble is an odd pirate, he makes sure that his direct crew is in uniform and to his standards. Unlike most ragtag units, his pirates are drilled for battle. He also employs a group of mercenarys from India. These warriors led by a man simply named Goshi often fight the boarding battles for The Kraken's Whip, however as you can see by the last pic, the captain likes to get in on the action. Sorry, I am limited by the amount of pieces i have at my house, I wish i could do this up alot better.... and perhaps she will get a refit when i get reunited with my collection... but for now it was what i have. I hate the large portholes, but they are better then no portholes. And I wish i would have had extra hull when i built it... and I definitely want to re rig the sails and add a front and back sail... just didnt have the string at the time. overall i feel it is alot better then the stock set tho. EDIT:
  18. A question to AdmMatthew: You said you war game with your fleet, what system do you use? And if you don't mind, what has your experience with wargaming with lego been like? fun over all? I must confess one of my motives for starting this post wasto take a general talley of AFOL's fleets for design of a new Pirate Naval game(i'm also working on a mecha version for exo-force), i am trying to get the feel for the average persons' fleet size, to scale a game to that.
  19. I have used this method of sail reproduction in the past, up to the point about glue on the sides and coffee stains, pretty awesome ideas right there! I tend to try to use material that glue is not needed, but my latest batch of cloth is in dire need of glue, i tend to use your method in the near future to use up the rest of this cloth i dont like! As for coffee stains, thats pretty slick, but i prefer the cleaner looking sails. I generally use canvas like cloth from fabric stores, usually printed in stripes to match the color of my ship's theme, so i tend to want to keep them cleaner looking.
  20. This is for discussing anything that was mentioned in the Fleet Listing? Army Listing?. This is to keep out the clutter! Thanks for your contributions.
  21. Since I started the thread I suppose I should post to it! This is the fleet I have at my current school housing (the vast majority of my fleet is still at my moms house, no room here) for simplicity I am going to lump all i have here together, in the future perhaps I will seperate them when I go home and count what I really have. Your Fleet and its Size 1) What is the name of your Fleet(s)? I think I will entitle this fleet "The Backwater Fleet" or perhaps "backup" fleet... lol 2) What is the size of your fleet (s)? (just the number of watercraft in your fleet (minus standard rowboats please, though if they are modified and you want to include them then go right ahead) 8 craft 3) How many standard LEGO ships do you have in your fleet? (IE: Skull Eye Schooner, or other lego sets) 4 4) how many MOC (my own creation) ships do you have in your fleet? 6 5) Please list your Non-MOC ships by type and number. Skull Eye Schooner (1) Imperial Flagship (1) Emperors Ship (1) Viking Longboat (1) Hey they are all pirates too! :P 6) Please list your MOCs and tell us a relative size comparison. (ie: it is the size of the Imperial Flagship, and carries 4 cannon, or something like that) HMS Inventive - a 7 guns a side (technicly could hold 14 total, but only has 8 cannons on it) brig. The size of the SES Unnamed Pirate Ship build from the hull of 7075 2 Unnamed Pirate Craft converted from 7072 The Christine - 18 gun ship. small hull, but with 4 midsections. 1 unnamed Brig - bored for 16 guns 7) number of sailors and officers (pirates have officers too!) in your fleet? I will update when I count 8) your favorite mini-fig in your fleet, and who is the commander of your fleet? My friend customized a pirate with a turban... he leads atleast a ship. 9) How many ships to you have up in dry-dock? (Ie: in the process of building, and or what kind of parts do you have just lying around to build ships? for example I may have 2 small hulls and 2 large hulls lying around... and have one ship in the process of being made) I have around 10 hulls of various sizes laying around and masts for only a couple... I think i have two 7075 hulls, 4 or five wide hulls at atleast 2 centerpieces a piece and a couple small hulls (don't know the exact number off hand) 10) Do you wargame with your fleet? Yes, or atleast try, Have been using Evil Stevies system. Your Army and Fortifications note: this again can be divided by army if you wish. I dont have any fortifications built right now, and dont have a count of men... so i will have to come back to this. 1)THe name of your Army(s)? 2) How many Officers and Troops do you have? (If you are counting pirates, i suppose you would list the number of captains that you have and the number of pirates based at forts and hideouts) 3) How many fortifications do you have? 4) How many are Standard Lego sets? (ie eldorado fortress or any other standard lego hideouts or forts) 5) how many MOC forts or hideouts do you have? 6) Please list what kind of sets you have on land, if they are MOC, please let us know a comparitive size. (Ie: my MOC fortress called Fort henry is two times the size of the eldarado fortress. (jsut an example)) 7)Who is your favorite minifig in your army, and who is the commander? 8)Do you wargame with your army? 9) are you in the midst of any Army construction, hideouts, forts, or towns ? Final Tally 1) out of all your collection combined, what is your strength in: a) Ships 8 b) Men ? 2)What is your collection goal? To be able to field fifty ships a side in a massive armada game where i have to rent a conference center to play!!!! HAHAHAHA 3) Are there any sets that you are hunting for in the near future? Eldarado Fortresses, cheap. Or any cheap SES 4)favorite set? SES 5) Construction plans? What have you started or planning to start in the near future? There is plans in the works for an overhaul on HMS Inventive, or to lay down boards for a new pirate ship. 6) Links to any of your creations or something you would like to share. Unfortunately I am ashamed of my MOCs LOL 7) Do you have a MISB Navy or Army? At the house i have about 14 more emperor's ships lying on my shelves. 8) Location of your Lego Universe: (ie: the legoribean...) I have been kicking around a back story but not ready to reveal it just yet 9) Where are you really from? PA, USA 10) Any sort of brief discription you want to give of your collection, small backstory, or other about your collection?
  22. Fleet Listing? Army Listing? EDIT Bonaparte: This thread should be used for Fleet and Army listing only. All discussions can be done in the Fleet Listing? Army Listing? Discussion thread. I used to maintain a fleet listing page for AFOL's and their fleet sizes... that was a long time ago and not many participated in it :) however I am always wondering what other people's pirate colections look like. I remember one guy that had sent me his fleet discription had something like 10 SES, 10 BSB, 25 RBRs and MANY more ships... LOL. I also used to have a math formula to work out who would win a battle... it was bogus really and it was just theory but it was fun. needless to say that guy's fleet could take on the next 5 biggest fleets LOL Also Mister Phes, if there is a post like this please direct me to it, but I think this may be original. EDIT: i just realized you had something like this in the essential links page... however, I think I ask some different questions, and this can put numbers all in one place. Also this is different then just asking what sets people have... So here are a few questions for you guys: Note: You may divide your total fleet up into things like Imperials, Pirates, Armada, French, Etc... or you may keep them all together, or answer all the questions for your multiple fleets! Also, these do not refer to just pirate theme minifigs and constructions, if they are used in conjuction with your pirates then list them... (ie: i use my blue soldiers from WW to man some ships) and lastly, these are Fleets, Armies, and Constructions that are displayed or used :) No MISB navies please (there is a section at the bottom for all of you who can refrain from getting your hands all over your new plastic. Your Fleet and its Size 1) What is the name of your Fleet(s)? (ie: The Golden Tresure Fleet) 2) What is the size of your fleet (s)? (just the number of watercraft in your fleet (minus standard rowboats please, though if they are modified and you want to include them then go right ahead) 3) How many standard LEGO ships do you have in your fleet? Let's limit this thread to answering the questions. This could be a good way to get a profile of the members of this board, and be a quick reference for people. I would be the first to post, but i have to go home from work and perhaps start counting LOL.
  23. That is interesting tidbit about french culture, what do kids do if toys are not coveted as much? video games? study? lol I am interested to hear why this phenomenom has occured. Your theory on why prices are so much cheeper, is very interesting too! Maybe I will move to france! i guess i would have to brush up on my french though, i used to be fluent.. now i cant remember a word! :(
  24. I think it goes without saying that i am a pirates fan, i enjoy ships in general and love the armada flagship for its color design and figs... the spaniards could have been so much cooler. my favorite big ship is SES though, which i proudly display at home! My little bro was really into islanders or "canibals" as he caleld them :) so now i have all of his islanders! whoo hoo. My theme order would have to be the following: 1.Pirates 2.Wild West - I cant get enough of these, and i was just starting to have my own money when they came out, so i have many many cavalry men! They make for interesting crews on ironclads and other US ships i try to make." 3.Adventurers/Orient Expedition - um, I am a history major, so this obviously is one of my favorites! 4.Castle - always have a place in my heart for this theme, and always have a place for their fortifications when using my pirates! muhahaha 5. Ninja - do i need a reason, also adds more enemies for my pirates! 6. Vikings - they are new so i have not really been able to decide how much i like them, though i do own the whole line! thankyou TRU for having killer sales after i got paid LOL! 7. Exo- Force, i am really into giant robots right now! 8. Space, can't forget it!
  25. looks pretty good! One of the best sail materials that i ever used i picked up at a fabric store (i dont know where you are from, but in the states we have a store chain called jo-ann fabric on the east coast, this is where i get most of mine from) There is a type of fabric, and the name escapes me that is VERY similar to original lego sail, slightly thicker, but almsot not noticable. The best part is, this fabric comes in the same lined patterns as original lego BSB or CC sails... only in all diferent colors... I have also seen it in black, white, grey, canvas, and rose. I wish i could remember what it was called exactly, but if you were to go to a fabric store and ask for canvas like fabric the employee could probably point you to some options... I wish i could dig up some picks of a few ships i made with it... it looks really good.
