But built in France, it's more European than Canadian at this point, and congrats, it's a very nice build! You've captured the look and feel of the train very nicely, although I usually use AGCs on the TER Aquitaine routes in the new ugly White and neon livery, you guys at lucky in Auvergne :) I'm jealous, I lack the parts to build one to go with the Horizon Express. Anyway, congrats again :)

Brickset is having problems at the moment but when I checked last it said 2010-Jan 1st 2014 as availability date for GE in US and Canada, but don't know how accurate that date is as lego still has it on their website (albeit out of stock at the moment)

From the looks of the rebel shield it looks like a sticker

Alright, thanks a lot :) That's good news, would have a hard time forgiven myself if I missed it

Hello to all I have a question regarding the Grand Emporium, which is, as we all know, the next Modular to go. I've been looking at the lego website in the Canada and the US, where it is out of stock with currently a back in stock date of Feb. 14th, but when looking last week the back in stock date was February 2nd. Does that mean that it is discontinued? Or do you guys think it will be back in stock before long? I was thinking of getting one and can still find some at Toys R Us, but that would mean missing the chance to get 150 extra VIP points. What do you guys think?

The Horizon Express has doors, or maybe you mean the traditional lego train doors?

Got mine today at the lego store in Levallois-Perret near Paris, travelled back in the metro through Paris to get it home, so for a little moment mine was really a Parisian Restaurant in Paris ^^. Just finished building what has become my first modular building so can't really compare with the others, but I have to say it was a great fun build, and the finished product looks great, so if anyone is hesitating, I do recommend it. Also if anyone is interested the store never took out more than two PR at a time. When I took mine off the shelf, it was the last one there, but within a few minutes they had put two back in it's place, but I heard the employes talking and they were saying stocks were tight (especially since a few employees are apparently trying to save a few of the early ones for family). Just very happy to finally own a modular and wanted to share my excitement with fellow lego enthusiasts :) Cheers and happy 2014 to all!

Hello from a fellow aircraft enthusiast who feels lego should focus more on aviation and add details. As such I like the idea of your model. As someone who MOCs my own planes, I have often avoided double decker A380s or 747s because the nose is just to hard to recreate with lego parts at the scale such as your model. Cockpit parts inspired by real life aircrafts are therefore a good idea. Did you actually create a part or is your picture just photoshopped? If you did create one I wouldn't mind seeing more pictures of the model as you envision it. I fear however a bit more would need to happen to create a real A380 as it would look a little bulky especially in the back with the parts created by lego for the city airliners so probably other parts would need to be created as well to create more details. In terms of playability lego has also probably stayed away from double deckers as it would present a problem with accessing the ground floor. They did come up with a system with the train 'Club Car' (4547-1) which could be applied to a airplane model but by then piece count might no longer make the price range worth it, which is why I doubt an A380 would happen. And lego has stayed away from realistic planes for such a long time for city products that I don't see them changing course now to make them more realistic. If an A380 is ever produced by lego it could either be as a miniature model, or as an expensive expert series, sort of like the Dreamliner, but as even the Dreamliner was far from perfect, I don't really see how an A380 could live up to expectations. Sorry to disappoint, but I do like the idea and would love to see it happen, I just don't see it happening PS: I seem to recall a lego knockoff that produced an A380 but can't seem to find it at the moment, it was licensed by Airbus as well, but wasn't minifig size so not really what you are looking for, but good to know it was done PPS: Found it; it's best-lock, if you look up Best-Lock A380 in Google you can find it, as I remembered it's not minifig size, but I think that's as close as we'll ever get to a lego release of the A380

I seem to recall Lego releasing a public statement saying a seagull appeared in earlier versions of the set but was removed without warning the PR (and not talking about the Parisian Restaurant ^^) department, which is why the seagull appeared in early descriptions of the set. Also every review posted about the PR mention no seagull is to be seen

Building a new city/rail layout with bridges and elevated track
mapimi replied to kc2dc's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Hey Kc2Dc, this display is far from lame, I really enjoy what you've done to build this city and I find it looks awesome. Granted I don't have a display yet so I'm far from an authority on lego displays, but not having custom stuff is not a crime, and I think the bridge is actually quite clever and like what you did for the pillar system, which looks great. Just curious what did you use for the runway? Is it wood you painted? Anyway, don't get discouraged by lack of comments :) And if you do feel you want more custom stuff, feel free to release your imagination :) The beauty of lego is that anyone can do what they like -
Awesome model, I really like the bogie details, and the snotted windows :) What part is used for the front coupling?
-
Awesome, you capture the spirit of the real thing beautifully in your model, love it :)

Thanks everyone for commenting. I'll try to answer all of you. I'll try and find a way to open the doors, the difficulty comes from the fact the train is neither 6 or 7 studs wide, it's a bit larger than 6 studs wide. What holds it together is the roof, with a snot technique used at the bottom to hold the wheels and the thing together. That is why the connection to the other car has to be snotted. Now I haven't build it in real (with for example black parts replacing the transparent ones as I don't believe they exist in real), so modifications would probably be necessary for it to be a viable model, but I see it more as a static model to put on a desk.

Right, sorry about that, I'll try and get that fixed pronto Here's my flickr link for the model: http://www.flickr.co...06/10373066246/

Hey guys Just wanted to share a little model inspired by the London underground tube trains. Your thoughts are more than welcome http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=535293 (Doesn't seem to be working at the moment, sorry ! ) http://www.flickr.co...06/10373066246/

Fun to watch, I like the fact the horizon express acted as a TGV train would by staying more or less straight. And luckily this is lego, the damage is easily fixable

This is amazing, very beautiful train, congratulations :)

Hello everyone So I'm back in college away from my dearest lego collection, so LDD is the only tool I can use to 'build' MOCs. Here is my version of the MI84 currently used on Paris' RER A&B lines (mostly B). The train is 7-studs wide, which I'm not sure how much of a structural integrity it would have in real life, but I have the train in both the old livery and the new STIF livery. I'm adding the instructions for anyone interested Let me know what you think :) Cheers RER complete livré RATP:SNCF.lxf

That's a good point, I've also considered building the runway/taxiway/ramps out of non lego materials, which would give more realism to the thing, plus as cited in this thread, airports use lots of parts, so let's save most for the terminal building/control tower. Lego itself has done that in legoland, with a paved runway, so I'm guessing the AFOL community could tolerate this.
-
Those are some very good points about the size, and some very cool creations. Thank you. Look forward to seeing what you guys come up with. Good luck building those, I'll show you guys what I come up with as well

Hello all Looking quickly through the forum and at lego train clubs, one aspect of towns and cities that seems to be forgotten in the lego world is airports. Fans seem to accept TLG made airport/planes, which often lack detail. I was wondering if anyone knows of custom airports that would match the realism shown by AFOLs in train/city building. I ask this as an aircraft fan, having been building planes for many years, but often lack the parts to build a realistic international hub at minifig scale. Edit: I'm still getting used to the forum so apologies if this is in the wrong part of the forum

Hello to all. My name is Maxim, I'm 20 and I live in Paris, France. A long term lego fan, I've started my lego collection when I was 8, and decided to join Eurobricks after checking the website regularly for the last month or so. I've historically built lego airplanes, but as I'm a transportation fan as well, I have always been interested in trains, and as such have started going into the lego train world as well. I'm currently trying to reproduce a french train station to go with the Horizon Express, and am excited about the upcoming Parisian restaurant. Anyway, I'm happy to join this website which has very professional builders, and to share the news with fellow brick enthusiast :) Cheers
