i'm bored waiting for the new 2007 EF line to appear on the shelves. so i thought, to heck with trying to keep the next contest a secret. and anyway, we can always recycle the contest when the 2007 line is out. :-P so here is the new contest layout. no prize as usual (i gotta change that... in 2007 i'll offer a prize :-P). you'll get glory and fame with your design. :-P same voting system, one person one vote. there will be two polls this time. one for each of the three categories and one for the winner. the three categories are: design, fit, and originality. the contest? remember how i (and most EF AFOL) whined about no female mf mech pilot? well, the contest is for you to design a story, a minifig, and best of all a mech. this contest is free-form. create your own story in no more than 1000 words. create your minifig, again no limits. feel free to design her as an android, a cyborg, or a regular human. and create a mech for her to pilot. no restriction on form. feel free to design bi-ped, tri-ped, track-driven, wheel-driven, etc. only restriction is that it should not resemble a tank, an APV/ATV, a plane, a copter. ie, no sonic phantom types and no mdt types. feel free to design large mechs and a co-pilot or gunner for her. size however should not exceed SV or BW (protecting SM should not be a walk in the park you know ;-) ) pictures: 6 pics at 24bit colors, 640x480 res. frontal, back and both sides mugshots of the mech and a close up of the minifig in the cockpit. and one picture of the mech in action against the robots (please use 1-3 robot mechs). more pictures can be added in your brickshelf folder. contest will judge minifig and mech design. story will not be judged, but feel free to include a nice story to connect your audience to your design. contest ends Nov 30th (changed for SuvieD!!!!). NO EXCEPTION! :-P P.S. wanted to add the following...grand titan's alternative model is fine. stealth hunter's alternative is not. supernova's alternative is fine too, but silent strike's is not. mdt's alternative is fine, but the main model is not. hope everyone is clear on which vehicles will be rejected.

i wish they would recreate the AT-AT so i can buy one! *wub* for set that i can get though...i would have to say 10175, darth vader's tie advanced. that has to be THE best set. still waiting to get it. :-/
-
my opinion? no. but as an epi 3 set, i think it is quite popular right next to CTT, judging by the ebay price and bid/demand. expect price to rise once it is discontinued. but again it's not one of those crazy sets like obi-wan's jedi red star fighter or darth maul or jango fett where it's a collectors item, so don't expect to make a killing stocking up on it. :-/ just my prediction as a lego investor. lol :-D
-
i'm not too fuss about it. it'll be nice to get all in the package. else i can always get the santa fe and the custom coaches. come up to roughly the same price by my estimate. :-P
-
great. do you know if the special edition will be available from the lego stores? the k10173 with the 9v motor, speed regulator and train tracks?
-
wow...train is very expensive. in addition to a $100 set, you need to get tracks and motor which can add another $100. then you need a speed regulator and a train wire thingy. all in all, i'm looking at like $250 for the entire thing. :-/ is that true? and i haven't come to houses and cities to decorate the track yet!
-
Too bad it's not available in the us market. My little boy is crazy over trains.

sorry, i dont condone theft or fraud. I know with the general ignorance of american staff you can probably get away with it on a small scale. But I don -
ok, i'll add an adendum to the remark: ...short of a battle pack set. :-P
-
same price items. would be crazy to buy 3 of the same sets. *wacko* share the deal with some friends...that way you dont have to buy that many sets.
-
hmm, i'd rather get the dark lord's ship over this one. :-P my 2 must have ucs sets are 10175 and 7191 at the moment. will probably wait for 7191 to be re-release as a legend. :-P *wacko* *sing* some time before 2011 would be nice! hehehehe...

Yeah, I see what you mean. I was about to argue that they should test themes first before going all out in manufacture and advertising on a specific one, but heck... they should have a pretty good idea by now. i think they do. i recall reading a blog by a lego designer. they actually test the sets on kids first and change the sets so that they can fix them by themselves. also if the kids are not attracted to the sets, they have to change them until the test kids like them. i think the problem is that with that approach you only make sets with the "WOW" factor. as you know to get kids' attention you need to attract them with action or crazy designs. unfortunately sets with "wow" factor may not have lasting appeal. so they think a theme will sell based on those kids' feedback, but often it's hard to tell since you need those kids to play with them for an entire year or maybe longer before you can determine if the theme or sets have that lasting appeal. eg. like dino attack...great concept. probably obtained from marketing analysis where they know boys like dinosaurs and they know boys like vehicles. so they merge the two and make crazy shooting action toys. they designed the vehicles to be large to impress the kids. unfortunately after the first week, a kid probably will chuck the sets aside as he probably got bored of them. i myself got bored of the attack copter set the first day i got them. the box looks impressive, the concept was impressive, but ultimately the copter stank. oh, another reason is that the design and test center is in denmark, so blame the danish kids for bad taste. :-P

crap....that looks seriously ugly. they replaced with star wars guns and castle pillars. were the instructions also updated? looks like one more reason not to buy striking venom. *sad* why not try asking customer service for replacement? tell us how it went. *sweet*

yup, exo force though hated by the purist is one of tlc's best selling line behind only star wars and bionicle. this came directly from tlc so hey, they know the numbers. i think it is pretty impressive considering it has only been in production for 1 year. who knows? it might over take bionicle. :-P it was also the line that brought me back to lego. having looked at the older catalogs, i couldnt agree more. 2006 has been the best year. only regret i have was not able to purchase 2005 star wars set (ie imperial inspection, mf, x-wing - but i got the latest 6212 so it's good). none of the 2005 sets actually appeal to me besides star wars tbh. 2006 was great. we have vikings, exo force, batman, star wars, nice creator sets. agree too that 2007 is looking like a fantastic year. exo force is much improved. mechs are breathtakingly beautiful. almost 2x more aesthetic than 2006 sets. 2007 star wars (besides gg fighter and the ugly ilc) sets are comparable to 2005/6 super hits. :-P

my son just called me (yes, he is 3 and knows how to speed dial my office no. lol) and told me that my package arrived. tonight and this weekend my son and i will be putting together the 5 viking sets from wave 1. there will be must feasting and drinking. :-D p.s. i got them for 1/2 price from an ebay best offer. :-P http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 hehe...i just completed the 5 sets last night. seller left them mostly built. i also need to check to make sure the sets are complete. minifigs are all there. one small white horn missing, one black round brick missing and one flame carrier from the castle missing. else all complete! pretty good deal i think!

the uplink gun is made from the same cylinder as the 6 barrel gatling. sorry, i'm still puzzled by what you said. i can't see any grey parts that were black in the other pictures. maybe a photo of the eratas as found in the instruction book will help.
-
i am really confused by what you said. what is out of the box is not what is on the box? what exactly are you trying to say? i tried playing "spot the difference" with the picture you posted and the review pictures and frankly, i can't see the difference. what's going on?

i dont think lego sets are sold that frequently that every cashier in the walmart store would know. seriously. even tru where all they do is sell toys dont know lego prices. i dealt with them before and it was a pain explaining "same price exchange" concept. trust me...they ARE that mechanical. even the so-called store "MANAGER" is not a semi-lit bulb herself. your second point does not hold water. it is still fraud in the legal sense. getting someone to agree based on lies and deceit is fraud. why do you think people who pretended to be arab royalties to get favors were charged with fraud? -
