Are we talking about the 2 magnets pulling apart or the magnet coming away from the bogie? If it's the 2 magnets pulling apart, can't you just use a couple of 1x2 plates to lock them together?

TLG gets greener (ie. more environment friendly)
paul_delahaye replied to Sandy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It would also reduce my box storage issue I currently prefer the boxes now where you can open both ends of the box by cutting the tape, they do store easier when flat packed. Is the size of the box not something to do with their marketing plan, i.e. show the real size of the product the child is going to get once it is made? The airline sets are always densely packaged, there is never any room inside those boxes for air, to minimise storage space on aeroplanes I guess. I've never seen any sign of parts damage on this style of set from the past few years. so all the sets could have less air, the thinner boxes are definately a step in the right direction -
[UK] Esso Petrol Stations summer Lego offer
paul_delahaye replied to Thego's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I may be wrong, but I think 4 out of the 6 are left over sets from last years Daily Mail Free Lego promotion? I want the jet ski though :-) -
With the Lego tractor (One of the better small sets of the last couple of years currently being on sale at shop at home, I picked a few up yesterday with this intention :-) Can't wait to see more :-)

I've got this set and although it's good, it's my least favourite of the modular range. I would suggest you retrace your steps through your instructions, as I don't think you should have the two 1 x 4 black tiles or the two 1 x 2 dark bley plates left over. These are not normal lego spares and I don't remember having them when I build my Fire house, I think you missed a step :-) Paul

I had a go at building a very symmetrical basic tunnel out of bricks and it uses a lot! One 32 x 32 straight tunnel section and one 32 x 32 corner uses nearly 400 2x4 green bricks from memory, hence my tunnel is not very long :-( My Tunnel I would have deep linked the image, but I did not want to get an ear chewing from the pixel police. So you will have to check out the link. As to why lego won't make it, I guess it's the same reason they won't make an office block or a skyscraper, it has limited playability. Adults want it, but the kids are not going to rush to the shops to buy it, and it uses loads of bricks. Although they did make a single moulded piece tunnel for Duplo. Paul

Technic Separator?
paul_delahaye replied to Arigomi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
After watching your video, I think you have proved exactly why there is no need for Lego to make a technic brick seperator, Technic is designed for older children / adults, they can engineer out of bricks solutions to problems. Plus there is a big difference between regular studded Lego bricks and technic, all studded bricks have a uniformed dimension, making 1 tool usable with nearly every brick seperating requirement, can you imagine the number of tools Lego would require to seperate all the different styles of Technic brick. I think the situation you present is fairly unlikely, I never recall seeing this situation created by Lego in any of their building instructions, I think you would jut have to be unluck to get those 2 bricks stuck together. Back in the early days of Technic, Lego used to print in their instructions some examples of brick built seperation tools, no picture available right now... -
Any idea what piece is used to create the black keys on the piano? I can't tell Paul

Summer release sets are getting earlier and earlier each year!

You need more players, 5 per side on the rink at a time and up to 22 per side in the dug out :-)

Don't take this the wrong way as everyone else seems to love it, but I don't like it, I hope Spring is very short this year and summer is just around the corner! I think its the pastel green colour which I don't like. Paul

8868 without box?
paul_delahaye replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
8868 is a great set, I never realised how great until I picked it up on ebay, that rotation of the crane on the back of the truck controlled by pneumatic cylinders is a great design, it does not work perfect, but still for Lego to come up with the design is very impressive. Can't recall how much I paid no more than £80 with the box and instructions, but I think it is not over priced like some of the second hand technic sets (Silver Champion, Power Puller). I personally always want a technic set with the box, I only ever then store the box which is a pain to do. I think the minimum I would accept on a rare set is no box, but the original instructions must be present, in my opinion without the original instructions you are buying a pile of bricks and in your mind you need to value the bricks in this way, anyone can print off the instructions thanks to the power of the internet. I think €60 would be top price for that set in the condition you describe, I certainly hope the bricks are nice and clean, and you don't have to spend hours washing the dust from all though technic beams :-) I guess you have considered ebay plus a little shipping? Only a couple of hours to go now until the end of the raffle, I count around 167 entries , although I may have missed a couple, good luck everyone, Here is my Bulk Liquids Container

In terms of design, these are such blatant copies of discontinued Lego train models it makes me wonder if Lego has actually licensed their design to this company, if not I'm sure they will be looking for compensation very soon! Either this or the factory in China where they are making many bricks these days is using Lego's molds to make bricks for this other company. The joys of outsourcing to Asia, goodbye control! Remember the days where Lego took their old moulds and concreted them into foundations of their factory to prevent them getting into the hands of the competition. (Monorail track) Just think about the cost of an injection mould, lets say 20,000 GBP per mould, there must be over 100 different moulds used in these trains, how would a new company plough that amount of money into new moulds without any proven sales history, they so have to be using lego moulds? and then removing the logos from the bricks?

Exclusive Train 10219 Maersk Train (Exclusive 2011)
paul_delahaye replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The question is, will Lego release this set for pre order before the 15th March so I can claim double VIP points :-) No doubt if I read the small print it won't apply to pre orders :-(- 379 replies

My 2 turned up yesterday in a Padded Brown Jiffy bag, no damage at all, both mint condition, well, they were both mint condition, now only 1 is Mint :-) The other is built and in my collection, a very nice little plane. Those that are complaining of squished boxes, did they buy just 1 plane? I think having 2 probably helped prevent the packaging from being squashed, but I guess it's just down to luck and the postman really Paul

I had that orange jeep as a kid, and the green and black motorbike that turned into a helicopter :-) This is something cool I have not seen done before in bricks

There is something really nice about these Airline promo sets which sets them apart from normal sets, the normal trend for modern day lego sets is to make the boxes oversized, when you open the box, you are always left a little disappointed at the amount of air within the box, there is normally twice as much air as there are bricks, this appears to be becuase Lego like to show an actual size image of the model the bricks inside the box will let you build, I guess so as not to disappoint the younger generation, However as there is such limited space aboard aeroplanes, they always make these sets in compact boxes, meaning the boxes are full to bursting with bricks, like the good old days :-) That is one reason why I like them My order has been shipped, should be here in a day or two :-)

My memories of this train when running it round the track without any carriages behind was that it was very good at doing wheelies :-)

All we need now is a new wagons pack containing train wheels, magnetic couplings, train base, etc like the old set 3737 to help us build more train cars.
