Wow. This is incredible! How did you make the gun? Is it 3D printed?

New Pirate River Quest ride at LEGOLAND Florida!
jodawill replied to TalonCard's topic in LEGO Pirates
Even worse, that scowl on her face... remember when all minifigures used to smile? I miss those days. I'm not saying we need to go back to the plain smiley faces, but for Pete's sake, could they smile? -
[OFFICIAL] "How to Be a Pirate" LEGO Little Golden Book
jodawill replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
It's hard to believe how expensive Little Golden Books are now. $5.99... I think they were 89¢ when I was a kid. I could be wrong, but it seems like it's gone up a lot more than inflation. So how does this new book stack up to the Ladybird books? I saw there's also one called How to Be a Knight. Are they worth buying? I'll have to take a trip to the book store and see if they have them in stock yet. -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
jodawill replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I could be wrong, but I think the images in the description in the listing are new? I don't recall seeing this one before. It seems to show a tunnel that wasn't available in previous images. I don't think this is the same as the little hideout we've seen before.- 2,976 replies

This was about 10 years ago. The PAB wall used to be a lot better.
-
I feel like an idiot for selling all of my horses. I got both the old white ones and the new brown ones with moveable legs from the PAB wall years ago. If I remember correctly, I was able to fit 22 of the new horses into a single cup. It will cost me a lot more now to stock up on horses. (I went through a huge purge a few years ago because my collection had gotten completely out of hand. In retrospect, I should have kept a bit more than I did.)

I've been mulling this set over for quite a while before sharing my thoughts. I've been looking forward to this set not just since it was rumored, but ever since they brought back the helmets in Benny's Space Squad. I knew this would be coming at some point. I'm really excited to have a legitimate classic space set again for the first time in my entire life. On one hand, I love this set because it's a refreshing new take on the original without being wacky like Benny's Spaceship. It looks pretty much as I would expect a modern version to look. But I buy classic space primarily for the parts, not really for the sets. My son and I love to build spaceships together. In this regard, I'm disappointed by a couple things. First is that the space logo piece is just a tile, not a slope. That will make it harder to incorporate into my own smaller builds. This is also the case for the computer screens. I really would have liked to have gotten new computer screens in bley, but they're also printed tiles. The second is that I'm really not a fan of this windshield piece. I much prefer the boxy look of the originals. I wish they had produced a square-cornered piece for this set. It also seems to be lacking the metal detectors and I only see one walkie talkie (who's he going to talk to?). I think the use of paint buckets here is really clever alternative to the original tri-cone piece (whatever that's called), but from a parts perspective, I would prefer to get the actual piece. Thankfully, these are pretty minor complaints when you consider how affordable Benny's Space Squad and 70821 are. Those sets are much better classic space parts packs in my opinion. I have several of each of these that I share with my son, but I think I'll stock up on some more of them soon to keep for myself. I'm really glad to finally get the red space minifigures. I have several of the originals in excellent condition, but I'm excited to be able to have some new ones to give to my son. Red is his favorite color, and he loves classic space. I hope we also get blue and black in the near future. Having a proper green one would also be cool. I always liked the green torso, but I could never enjoy them with the modern helmets. I really can't buy enough of these. I'm going to be be using all of my personal money in the budget to alternate between buying these and buying multiple copies of the new castle for as long as they're available. Despite missing some of the crucial pieces I was hoping for, I think it will still be a great parts pack otherwise, and I can never have too many red space minifigures.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
jodawill replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Has anyone else found the name of this set kind of confusing? It's my understanding that "[Something] Knight's Castle" always referred to a castle owned by a lord, and "[Something] King's Castle" or "[Something] Monarch's Castle" were the names given to castles occupied by a ruling monarch. I wondered if that meant the "lady of the castle" was actually supposed to be a knight, but the official description says she's a queen. By that convention, shouldn't this be "Lion Queen's Castle" or "Lion Monarch's Castle?" I guess "Lion Monarch's Castle" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Black Monarch's Castle."- 2,976 replies

To me, the 3 in 1 castle fails even as a kid's set. They used to make some great kid friendly castles like Black Knight's Castle. They were simple to build, but included tons of great parts. The 3 in 1 castle is just beyond saving because the parts it includes look so bad together, and it doesn't have much in the way of castle accessories and minifigures. I actually prefer those old playset type sets to the more elaborate designs. However, if they could leave out the brick built animals and include four unique forestmen designs, I think a 3 in 1 would be a great idea. Imagine if you could build three of the original forestmen sets with the same parts. But don't make it look like a Creator set. Make it look like this GWP, but include enough parts to build whichever set you want. (And to me, the trees would have to be black.)
-
This might be a minority opinion, but I hope they don't make any more minifigure based 3 in 1 sets. I think they look completely awful. That theme is fine for things like airplanes and large animal builds, but I'm not at all a fan of the style of the minifigure scale sets. I mean, just look at the recent castle. Even the parts selection is completely dreadful, and it doesn't include enough minifigures for that price range. And it needs real animal molds. I do hope to see more forestmen sets though. A new Forestmen's Crossing would be a big hit, especially if it includes a printed baseplate!

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
jodawill replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I got my bullet helmets today. I can understand now why they were retired. It looks like the mold was wearing out when they created these in 2002. They're very shiny and not well textured. It's a bit of a disappointment, but I suppose I won't notice when I'm not inspecting them close up.- 2,976 replies

Could someone post a picture of the series 13 king with the red hair and gold crown? I wonder if they'd look good together with the opposing king having darker hair.- 2,976 replies

I actually do like the red hair, but I think the blue crown is unfortunate. It would have been nice to have two choices of hair color for that crown piece with realistic crown colors.- 2,976 replies

I have mixed feelings about the series 13 king. He looks great for someone who's going to sit on a throne all day, but he doesn't look like he's ready for battle. So I'm toying with the idea of having a Black Falcon king leading the attack on the castle.- 2,976 replies

Since we only got one new forestman torso, I've been wondering how we could get some more variety out of these. I'm sure it would look great if I replaced the red arms with green. I've also been thinking maybe I could replace the arms and legs with reddish brown. I also have a reddish brown hat from the old magnet.

I've never understood everyone's obsession with goats. Is there more to it than the fact people want what they can't have? There's a lot of parts I'd be more interested in seeing coming back, like the bullet helmets, the original gold coins, and the trumpet from Wild West. And, of course, more colors of forestmen torsos and hats. (We need brown hats!)- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
jodawill replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I only had one of the old bullet helmets. I found someone selling them at a (comparably) reasonable price. The guy who runs Bricks4Cheap says he has over a thousand of them, and if you order through his website, you get a 10% discount, which left me paying $1.79 each. As far as I can tell, that's the best deal online if you want to buy them in bulk. I ordered 30 of them. I hope that will be enough. We'll see. Edit: I should also mention that his are in new condition.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
jodawill replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
If you look through all of the original Black Falcon sets on Brickset, you'll notice that each minifigure with a bullet helmet is an archer, each one with a conical helmet has a spear or sword, and the ones with the grille, of course, have lances for tournaments. The only exception I see is the guy with the halberd in 6062. This is how I'm going to distinguish the minifigures in my castle. I actually love having a single torso because it gives it a bit of a classic feel.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
jodawill replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
When I ordered the Black Falcons from PAB, I bought classic smiley heads for all of them. I had wondered if they'd clash with the detailed garments, but they actually look great. I'm going to replace most, if not all of the heads in this set with the classic smiley faces. The biggest question I'm facing now is whether it will be worth the investment to buy the old bullet helmets at $2 each or if the conical ones are good enough.- 2,976 replies

I don't think that wizard looks anything like Majisto. Personally, I wish they hadn't included him at all because that's the wrong theme. But it's not a huge deal. I agree - a glow in the dark ghost would have been amazing. But I'm sure that wouldn't have fit in their budget. (Obviously not, considering the totally generic Majisto they settled for...)- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
jodawill replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I was looking through all of the minifigure PAB parts last night, and I noticed that Majisto's wand is still in production in another color. It's too bad they didn't at least bring that piece back in glow in the dark white. I keep thinking that for as little effort as they put into that minifigure, they probably should have just done something else. It seems like a very strange choice to include him here at all. I'm wondering if maybe they just had a dollar left in their budget at the very end and had to decide how to use it, so they just threw him in out of existing parts. I think if they had coordinated with other designers, they probably could have had the glow in the dark wand used across multiple sets. That makes me think this was just a last minute decision.- 2,976 replies

I like the king, but that queen has always looked odd to me. To me, the dress makes her look obese, and there's something about the face that seems off to me. I prefer this queen myself, but I don't think the colors would go well with the rest of the set.- 2,976 replies
