[SR - MCRA] Leaving Granoleon...
Captain Genaro replied to Vedauwoo's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Looks like someone's grog is about to be cut for the next week . Nice sandbar, and I like that you included the fruits (pun intended) of your labor on your ship. -
[COR - February FB2] Amelia Street Bakery
Captain Genaro replied to Mike S's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A very nice, clean build. The roof is well done (thought the offset to the right does take some getting used to), and I like that you included an interior. Not sure if you wanted a newer or older building, since the roof looks well-weathered while the rest of the structure looks fairly new. My only suggestion would be to add some weathering to the building or make the roof a little less weathered. -
Everything about this build is fantastic! I can't imagine how long the water took to get just right, but I assure you that the end result is nothing short of excellent. The raft is also really nice, though it might be a little difficult for one minifig to sail it alone.

[SR - FB3] Antigone's Fury (Class 5T)
Captain Genaro replied to Vedauwoo's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice ship that appears to be inspired by the Imperial Flag Ship. Lots of colors in use, but it is done so in a way that appears ordered. Approved . -
[SR - MCRA] It's Kind of a Likely Story
Captain Genaro replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Fantastic work as usual. I love the speech bubble (though it took me a moment to realize what it was), as it really adds a unique way of telling the results of the MCRA action. The bar is great as well, especially the posing of the minifigs. -
[SR - FB2] Far Horizons Salvage and Shipworks
Captain Genaro replied to Vedauwoo's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A great build with all the details and hustle that I'd expect to find at a dockyard. I'm particularly fond of the masts in various stages of completion and the various piles of lumber. Furthermore, I love that this build is an addition to your other MOC. It's really nice to see a small seaside town taking shape. -
A very nice, smooth, sleek build. The sails and rigging look well done, and I always like to see an active ship with its crew manning their stations. I do hope its new owners choose a more honorable career than smuggling, or they might earn a long, unpleasant stay in an Oleon prison.

Captain Genaro replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I'm afraid that I don't have too much to add, but I couldn't help but commenting on this ship. It's absolutely stunning. Your choice of colors is fantastic, and her shape is instantly recognizable as a galleon. The simple rigging you added makes a world of difference. Hopefully we'll get to see some pics of her in action with a full crew. -

[OL - FB1] A Small Shipyard
Captain Genaro replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As others have already mentioned, fantastic boat. A great inspiration, and I might have to use some of the techniques from it to build my own. The rest of the build is great as well. The ground is good, and the numerous details, such as the shipwright's lunch and various materials, are great additions. -
[SR-MCRA Results] Jail Break!
Captain Genaro replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
No honor (or loyalty) among thieves . A nice build that has all the markings of a well-worn prison. Not sure I'm a fan of the headlight bricks' bases showing on the inside of the cell, but the texture it adds to the cell's exterior wall is certainly worth it. -

Captain Genaro replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Welcome back and welcome aboard! While digital builds are not my favorite (this is not a reflection on anyone's talents, rather my preference for MOCs to be in the brick), I must say that your builds are inspiring and show many neat techniques that I can apply to my brick built ones. I look forward to see what you come up with. -
I'm starting to doubt these are pirates seeing as there is absolutely no mention to the gold chest just sitting on the seafloor . The floating hull in the first picture is a really nice addition, and it makes the scene all the more convincing.

[ESL-FB4] Cotton Plantation on An Holli
Captain Genaro replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Looks like they'll be busy for a while. It's a really nice build. I love the fence in the background and the fact that part of the field has already been harvested. The ground is a little too simple for my taste; perhaps you could add some groves in the dirt road from the heavy wagons. Do you have any pics of the wagon? It looks like the sides angle outwards, but I can't tell for certain.- 25 replies

[BoBS Layout] Rails in the Rockies 2016
Captain Genaro replied to Vedauwoo's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Looks like a great display, and I'm glad it was well received. No doubt, all the fun details helped. It's really nice to see all your builds together to create a busy town and harbor scene. -
[OL Ch2a] Work for nothing
Captain Genaro replied to robinnilsson403's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Really nice fortifications. The spikes in the front and the slope look fantastic, and I really like the use of different colors for the ground and the sloped fortification. The vegetation on the roof seems a little too modern to me, but I'm no expert so it might be historically accurate. I'll be interested in seeing how they resolve the gunpowder issue. -
[ESL - FB1 - Class 4T2] Purple Rain
Captain Genaro replied to Maxim I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A very fine vessel, indeed. The gunports opening downwards is unique, as is the color scheme, and it really adds to the ship's character. I also like the bow and huge cargo hold. In some pictures, the quarterdeck looks a little odd; perhaps having the sides taper in to have a narrower stern would help, but that could just be my preference. That's a unique method of funding a ship, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it used more often. -
Great thoughts. I didn't want to mix up light and dark grey, but perhaps using old and new grey would work. I'll have to take a look in my parts bin and see what I have. Perhaps I could use some jumper plates to help offset the tiles and to add some texture. I'll have to think about that next time. I agree. The wall is only supposed to be seen from the front, so depth shouldn't be too much of an issue, but you can see how skinny it is in some pics. Thank you. I'm afraid I don't know what the Dick is (unless you mean Dike?). The angle took a couple tries to make it sturdy enough, so I'm glad you like it. Very kind words, I appreciate the feedback.

I really like the gunboat. You've really captured the shape quite well. The fortifications are also nice, with some excellent details to add to the overall scene.- 12 replies

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Genaro replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@The Sarge: A gunsmith is always useful to have. Welcome aboard! I just uploaded my results from the MCRA action. And here's a teaser pic of a sloop I'm working on. Hopefully, I'll get the parts to finish her this weekend, finish the rigging, add sails, and be done in time for February's MCRA! A couple more pics are on my Flickr. Sloop Teasers by Capt. Genaro, on Flickr -
Cries of "bear a hand, now," watch your step, you lubber" along with some truly profane language filled the salty air as Captain Anthony Genaro made his way back to his captain's barge. He was returning from a surprisingly enjoyable appointment with the port admiral who had congratulated him on bringing the Little Hermes in without conflict. The naval chronicles were filled with a surprising number of ships lost or captured, and some had begun to worry. "Ha, but no I" the admiral had said. "Oh, I told them, you'll get your goods yet, just you wait and Genaro will be in before the new moon." And if the kind words were not enough, the freight money that naval captains were entitled to certainly made the trip enjoyable. Arrival by Capt. Genaro Arrival by Capt. Genaro __________________________________________________________________________________ I'm not too pleased with the way the fort in the background came out. Originally, I was hoping the tiles would look like stone, but I'm afraid it came out looking like concrete (perhaps too uniform). Other than that, I can't complain too much. As always, comments and criticism is welcome.

[OL - Ch 1B] Expedition into the Mangrove
Captain Genaro replied to Gideon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Oh my, that's fantastic; I absolutely love it . The trees are nothing short of suburb, and the sheer quantity really creates the impression of a thick jungle/swamp. Of course, the beach has some great texture as well, and I really like the various minor details you included. I can't wait to see the next installment of this story! As for the photography, do you always keep the camera at that distance and simply zoom in for the closer shots? I may be mistaking, but I thought you would want to move the camera in closer whenever possible.- 33 replies

Nice vegetation, and the ruined wall looks good as well. I recommend moving one of the legs for each of the litter-carriers, as it currently appears that they are standing still.

[COR - FB3 feb] The Founding of Quinnsville
Captain Genaro replied to Tomsche's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lots of action, just as I would expect from a shipload of new colonists. I would like to see some more details along the beach. Perhaps adding some rocks, sand dunes, or seashells could add to the realism and help vary the terrain, especially in places where it gets rather flat.
