  1. I believe the Galaxy Diner and Theatre is on Cuusoo for those not already aware... http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/10585
  2. I agree with this too. A better range of civilian figures would be great. I have always wanted Lego to make a set of about 50 Civilian City figures each year, different than the ones before, with a range of ages or a different theme like Beach, Office, Summer, Snow, School, Music... I don't know why they don't as I am sure they would sell well as people would want to populate their cities. Or if they cannot do this, maybe with some accessories like trees, plants, different shaped doors and windows.
  3. Yes, with much discussion over what the correct translation should be! Hopefully it'll be like Series 6 with a few revealed at a time to stretch out the excitement!
  4. Wow! I think these look pretty awful. Credit to Lego for trying something different but for me it hasn't worked.
  5. The nose of the train looks badly built to me and I really dislike the orange colour scheme. It's good it comes with minifigures but not really a great selection. The arrow designs on the side are probably the best feature. However, give me the classic Metroliner and club car or the Emerald Express any day! I'd like to see the Australian Indian-Pacific made with a good number of figures like the Metroliner, and possibly something representing the Australia Outback (kangaroos). Hope this does not mean we won't be seeing a better non-Creator train released in the near future.
  6. I hope that the CMFs continue for a long while and that every tenth series (so Series 10) will include a slightly larger accessory than usual like the following... Cyclist with a bike in a different colour from any previous bike Hospital patient in a grey manual wheelchair Shepherd with a sheep Drummer with mini drum kit
  7. Haha! Yes, the office can be more frightening than any zombie attack at times! I don't think fire and police jobs should be the only alternative options to a desk-based career though but sadly these are the two themes that seem to be made too often by Lego in my opinion. When I was a kid I didn't want to be a policeman or fireman. I actually wanted to become a farmer! There are lots of other alternatives too like coastguard, pilot, medical, veterinary... It would be nice to have more civilian houses so children can build a community. There always used to be lots of houses. There are plenty of other themes to choose from if action is the only incentive for a set. Some more civilian vehicles and transport would be great. As a kid my favourite theme was always the 'leisure' theme like the beach and canyon river retreat of the mid-90s. Personally I'd like a proper winter sports subtheme (in addition to the annual Winter Village set). A working ski lift, ice skating rink (with Zamboni and more ice skates), a bobsleigh team... In the 90s, the Lego motto was 'Just Imagine'. Sadly to me it seems that nowadays the choice of City sets show a lack of imagination from The Lego Group.
  8. Yes, sadly Police and Fire yet again. I thought last year's Forest sets would cover the themes for a few years but disappointing to hear that City brings up the same old stuff yet again. I didn't like police and fire sets when I was a kid and nothing much has changed. I still live in hope that my safari truck no.6672 from 1990 will one day get to explore the African Savannah. The documentary crew are pretty fed up with trying to make new films starring the monkey and want to glimpse other animals like a Lego rhinoceros before they die out. Mind you, I suppose for a species to become extinct it would have to have been made in the first place! Come on Lego, please stop reproducing the same old rubbish and give the real Lego fans some variety. Hippos, giraffes, zebras... and bring back the Ostrich in a non-licensed set! I thought the golden days were back when the Farm subtheme was released but it has been poor since then, even the Harbour sets were poor. Thumbs down for City 2013
  9. Yes, hopefully something rather generic looking so that multiples can be bought to create the whole band when other instruments are released. I'd like to have a proper orchestra with all the instruments so if the instruments came with various figures (e.g, a tuba with the brass band fig, a violinist in orchestra attire, a hippy with acoustic guitar, saxophone wih jazz musician, a string quartet...) It's a shame there have been so few music style figures - I'd like a barbershop quartet dressed like 'The Be Sharps' from the Simpsons and also an Elvis impersonator.
  10. 2 x Capybara = 6 points 2 x Turtle = 6 points 1 x Toucan = 1 point 1 x Parrot (classic print in blue) = 1 point Total = 14 points (I'd much rather have an African animals pack though!!)
  11. Strangely enough I hope this list is accurate, purely so I can find out what a Mud Champion and a Mouse Bandit look like! I find most of these pretty unlikely though - a babysitter would be interesting though. The only thing that makes me think this could possibly be real is the fact it is so bizarre - I'm sure we could all make our own far more plausible lists.
  12. 1. Skeleton Suit - I know we have skeletons already but I'd quite like a figure with black clothing and a skeleton pattern over the top. It seems a Halloween chracter is quite a popular choice. 2. Wedding guests - outfits that would fit in well with a wedding scene - ladies with hats, pastel colours, etc 3. More musicians 4. Hopefully a jockey and golfer soon as I would like several different ones so the sooner one comes out the sooner we get a 'repeat' to fit in.
  13. I'd like to see a more complete Mos Eisley cantina with a good variety of the alien characters, including the band.
  14. I think the minifigure series are manufactured because the minifigure is a very popular element of the Lego brand and therefore sells well. Having a wide range of themes allows the product to appeal to a wide audience and collectors of a specific theme may buy some of the items they wouldn't usually due to the idea that as they are collectible, the consumer needs to complete each series. Some of the figures are based on previous themes, which allows Lego to somewhat appease fans of certain themese which are no longer in production (e.g, the Ninja or Viking). Other figures allow Lego to test the water as to how successful a prospective new theme could be based on the popularity of a particular figure. For example, the popularity of the early Halloween-style figures paved the way for Monster Fighters. Other figures may be released because they work well as individual figures and would not really fit in any particular themed set, such as the Leprechaun. Finally, other figures complement themes currently available (Alien Conquest, Atlantis, Pharoah's Quest...) I believe that variety make the Minifigures series so appealing. It is interesting to read 'favourite figure, threads as everybody's opinion differs. As a Town fan, I do like the Sports figures as Sport plays a significant role in everday role and these figures would not really appear in a nirmal City set. Likewise, musical instruments, although I feel these are something the minifigure series has lacked, particularly as these are also figures which would probably not work well in a normal set as they do not allow a great deal of playability, etc. The same goes for World Cultures but nice to see these being represented whereas they would not usually appear.
  15. I was hoping that pictures would emerge gradually like Series 6 so I could stretch out the excitement! 1) Trader - nice to have the bowler hat in black. A great face although I would have thought he would have been wearing a pin stripe suit! I was hoping this would include a mobile phone too although probably as this is a historical trader it would not work so well. 2) American Footballer - A decent looking figure. I really like the sports characters. My only gripe is the numbers on the torso mean every player is a number 12! I would like more of each sports figure to build full teams and oppositions though. 3) Cheerleader - nice to see in a different colour. Hopefully there will be more in future sets with different colours/letters, etc. I quite like repeats. 4) Alien - not a sci-fi fan but nice to have some variety and this looks like a pretty cool character. 5) Conquistador - great face and good to have figures reflecting different historical periods. 6) Evil Robot - probably my least favourite but good to have an adversary for the Series 1 robot! 7) Bavarian - Great torso but I dislike the mouth. Hopefully there will be other Alpine characters in future - Swiss milkmaids, goat herders (Heidi) and an Alpenhorn player. 8) Cowgirl - looks like a fairly modern cowgirl but I like figures that represent other cultures/nationalities. 9) DJ - slightly disappointed with this mainly because it looks like the headphones aren't compatible with other hairstyles. Also the torso is a little dull. 10) Bat monster - will be good for people who cannot justify spending large amounts on the Monster Fighter set with the bat characters. 11) Diver - his helmet looks a little bulky but a good mould and this will be popular - I love scuba diving too so nice to see an old-school diver 12) Pirate - another of my least favourite figures and a real oppotunity missed to give the old parrot a colour change to become a blue macaw! 13) Skier - nice different coloured outfit. I want more skiers/snowboarders and winter figs. A shame she has normal hair rather than a woolen hat though. 14) Santa - at last a real Santa hat!!! Nicely done Lego. 15) Thespian - The bard would be proud. Will definitely buy one for my best friend who is a lecturer of English Literature. 16 I was expecting the fairy to be a little more pink. Not something I'm that interested in but good to have a new female face and a nice one at that. Now I have the hump I will have to wait ages for Series 9! *keeps fingers crossed for a hotel bellhop, UN soldier, Elvis, several Grand National jockeys, a cricketer, a guy with striped BBQ apron, a shepherd, Peruvians, a gondolier, kids in birthday party hats (coloured paper crowns), a tourist in a Panama hat, a barbershop quartet, members of a brass band, orchestra musicians and a mother with baby wearing glasses and closed mouth (the mother not the baby!)*
  16. Not enough for my liking. I do find it annoying when people label everything as 'City' though. For example, in this series, I assume people will class the Bavarian guy as a City figure, just like they did with the Mexican. How many people do you see dressed as Bavarians in a city (unless of course you are in Bavaria!). I think these figures form part of a 'World Cultures' theme, which I hope will include many more cultures but also it would be nice to have several different Bavarian style figures in future sets so they can combine to form a scene, Swiss milkmaid, Heidi (goatherd), an Alpenhorn player.... Also, people often class historical figures as 'City' like the sleuth and the 1920s gangster. I assumer the diver will be wearing an old-fashioned diving suit, making him a historical figure but people will label him as 'City' There are a lot of figures that should be made which represent the world around us, be it sport, nationality, occupations, hobbies and other every day roles and it is understandable that as there is so much variety and relevance to 'City' figures in the world around us, these will take up a reasonable percentage of each Series. I would only count the footballer, skier, trader, cheerleader, Santa and DJ as 'City', which still allows for a variety of other themes in each series.
  17. and for the opposing team or do they both have to play in the same colour? ;-) I don't buy into all moaning that goes on about a small selection of each series not being originals. Each figure is unique, just some are more compatible with others. Another cheerleader? Great, somebody to support the other team. Skier? Great, series 2 ski dude gets bored alone on the slopes. I'm sure Lego has plenty of good ideas up their sleeves and in future series there will be lots of new figures we haven't seen before, but also a good handful of figures that fit well with a figure previously released. One of the best things about the CMF series is there is something for everyone as people's comments about CMFs always reflect. I wouldn't care if future lines remade more zookeepers (with different animals), more clowns for the circus, other dwarfs to battle against other fantasy world figures, a geeky girl for my office nerd, other musicians to join the Lego band, and even another mechanic (just so they aren't all called Ralph!). It wouldn't matter if they were 'repeats', I like building scenes - not just having a one-off character that isn't much use to any other theme.
  18. I disagree. I haven't ever bought a Lego Santa for the very reason the previous ones aren't very good. I want a proper Santa (not wearing a low-ranked pirate's hat!). I am sure a Santa's Elf will appear in future series.
  19. I am hoping the trader will be like an old fashioned English city gent, with black bowler hat and pinstripe suit.
  20. Hmmm, people complaining before even seeing pics??? I'm the biggest moaner here but at least I'd wait to see pics before I started....! Personally I would prefer more City figures but I think there is anough here for everyone with lots of 'most requested' figures. I also like repeated figures as they tie in well with previous figures to expand on themes. Ancient Thespis - people are always asking for an Ancient Rome/Egypt/Greece theme Pirate Captain - pirates have been the main theme that people have complanied have not made an appearance in a CMF series Conquistador - not yet appeared as part of the CMF series. Enemy Robot - people often complain there aren't enough sci-fi/space figs Evil Female Alien - see above Diver - an old-fashioned diver is one of the most often requested minifigs Vampire - coincides well with the release of the Haunted House. Fairy - who will be first to build a fairy army?!, another often requested figure in CMF ideas threads and presumably included to appeal to girls. Football Player - nice to see a variety of sports represented Trader - no idea what to expect but as it is unique I'm sure it will be popular Skier - more additions to the Winter Village are always welcome. A ski resort sub theme is also wanted by many City fans Red Cheerleader - the red team are in need of some support! A cheerleader has not appeared since series 1 and we often moan about so few female figures. Santa Claus - yes, the current Santa is in need of a proper hat indeed! Boy in Bavarian costume - one of the most highly requested figures in CMF ideas threads DJ - (ok, disappointing not to have an actual musician but if it has headphones it will no doubt be a popular piece for sig figs) Cowgirl - people always ask for the Wild West theme to return and this adds to the number of missing female figs. I'm not sure if these are the final figures. I also remember Series 3 being a little different to the original list which appeared. Looking forward to pics though.
  21. 1. Hippo (designed to enable the top half to be pulled apart from the bottom to create a half-submerged look when put on a blue 'water' plate) 2. Rhino 3. Sheep 4. Giraffe 5. Toucan
  22. Great work Wrinkledog! Certain Lego animals are long overdue. The kangaroos are particularly great - I'd really like to see Lego produce some rhinos and hippos (the hippos should have a moveable mouth and be able to be pulled apart so that the top half can be put on a blue plate to look like they are half submerged in water). Some giraffes, gorillas and smaller animals like toucans and penguins would be great too! Keep up the good work and I hope this thread will feature many more of your designs (please)!
  23. This is a great set - from the Golden Age of Lego City (or Town as it was then), possibly my second favourite set ever after the Metroliner. I thought that City was heading into another glorious period when Farm was released but I think the recent marina and hospital are very disappointing. I have always wanted more 'leisure' themed sets rather than the usual Police and Fire. The 2012 mining sets make a nice change but don't exactly reflect every day life. I was hoping the Friends theme was going to be similar to Paradisa but it didn't turn out that way. I would love a set like the Century Skyway to be made to fit in with a Holiday Island sub-theme. The palm tree is a nice touch, showing that the airport is based away from a City area and the number of minifigures is a plus, although there could be more variety. The building itself is fairly substantial and there are nice additions like the luggage truck. I hope Lego do make something like this in future, with one passenger plane, palm trees, a coach to take the holiday makers to their resort and a taxi cab. The figures should all be dressed for a summer vacation, of course. This set was great, considering the range of bricks and accessories available at the time.
  24. These look like a bit of an after thought. Hopefully clearer pictures will show the figures to be better than they appear. I usually like new figures. I really like sports and I'm from Britain but the Olympics is about nations coming together so it would seem silly not to have any other figures from other IOC memebers to compete against. The GB Olympic team have great cyclists too and there is no cyclist included. I would prefer to have Olympic branded sets. I hope other nationalities will receive their own figures. I've always wanted a wide range of flags.
  25. It's the Aino triptych by Akseli Gallen-Kallela from Kalevala.
