OK, let's keep this thread friendly If we can ask questions.... -What colour are the flowers and what sort of pots do you mean? -Are the faces classic smileys and which hair pieces are included? Any new torsos? -Are the flags the thin banner-like castle-style flags? -Is the store quite modern looking? Thanks

No problem Svelte. I know topics do tend to stray off course. I was just trying to pitch the point that the 2010 City civilian sets, which I am really excited about, would be the perfect opportunity to give us some decent new figures. It's particularly frustrating always seeing City neglected in terms of new parts and figs when compared to other themes. Rant over! Anyway, there are a few 2010 sets I will definitely be splashing the cash on - the pig farm, limousine and passenger plane. I am also hoping that the modular emporium will be a good source of parts for City fans.

Yes Cian I really love the classic smilies. Back then a face could be anybody, male, female, young, old... However, nowadays the fact that the faces are quite specific a face with a grey beard can't exactly pass as a young lady really. That's why I think that we should have more options. I know that there are a lot of heads out there too but they all look different styles. They should just stick with one style. I suggest the current standard - basic small round eyes with the white dots - and work around that. No fleshy rubbish, none with stupid open mouths, no over-cartoony looking ones.... It's a big ask but... ...I wish the eyebrows weren't all brown too, let's have some blonde, grey, ginger, black.... ...add this with various other features, moustaches (men only!), glasses, some sad faces, some happy, male, female, young, old... ... and please give us a better selection of torsos (shirts, coats, pyjamas, bikinis) but not necessarily overly-detailed (printing only on the front of torso is perfect)... ...and i'd be a very happy Town (sorry - 'City') fan ready to splash the cash on perfect plastic people and expensive sets

I'm really looking forward to the house. Hopefully it will have a full interior with furniture and kitchen goods, such as washing machine, oven and fridge. More importantly this is a perfect opportunity for Lego to give us new civilian minigiures. Unfortunately, they will probably be old minifigs which are already available everywhere else. This annoys me greatly - particularly as other themes always get new moulds even for the most random objects. Come on Lego, give us some new civilians with decent outfits and new faces. A female head with glasses anyone?

I really love the modular line and hope they continue churning out more and more until we can no longer breathe without fear of inhaling a Lego brick! Slightly concerned about the colours though. One of the best things about the modular houses are that the colours are quite 'normal'. I think a yellow house would look far too garish and out of place with the CC and Green Grocer. I hope they mean the lighter yellow colour, which we need more of. The standard lego head colour is too bright and only really looks good as minifig skin - not the colour of a wall.

The future of farm (contains spoilers for 2010 sets
lifeinplastic replied to lifeinplastic's topic in LEGO Town
Great idea The Cobra!. I've been having a look at brickshelf and found this. What a great MOC! They should definitely do a farm set with the foals. Also, some tan horses and grey ones too! http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=3199161 Yes, another good way to add more trees to our city. Could come with a trailer, like this other MOC I found on brickshelf. Imagine something like that full of apples or cherries! http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1618835 -
That's a cute set too aawsum. I prefer the original though! The cypress trees are the best in my opinion. A pity they don't make them anymore, although the bicycles were brought back for cafe corner even after the moulds had been destroyed or something like that. I'd love a new trees/fences/flowers set with the cypress trees, the white fences and some of the rarer colour flowers (blue, purple and NEW orange flowers!)

Yes Pilot! This is exactly what I had in mind for the third part of my park ideas (posted earlier in this thread). I have copied it below. Would look great! - A playground with working swings, a slide, see saw and roundabout. - An ice cream van, with ice creams and lollipop accessories, a driver wearing a shirt, 2 kids and a mother. - A small park cafe selling hot dogs and coffee with lots of trees and added scenery, including fountain, grandparents and children with skateboards and new coloured bikes (I used to have a great Playmobil set like this!).
-
Yes. I agree with this. Some smaller sets like a doctor's office (with the moulded manual wheelchair I really want!), a small post office, barber shop, etc would be great. By the way, great little MOC Mariko! Nice interior design. Just needs some minifigs to bring it to life!
-
The Sail N Fly Marina is another of my all time favourites. I really liked the cafe/civilian aspect to the set. Nice idea about the dock. I would also like to see a small civilian marina set. A bit like a coastal 'City Corner': A small marina with 1 leisure boats, using the captain figure from the coastguard and life jackets. A bit like the old shark fishing set. Another boat for 2 scuba divers (new piece for mask and snorkel without having to wear a racing driver helmet) An ice cream parlour. Various other NEW minifigures, eg, an old man sitting on the jetty fishing, lady with glasses and lipstick head at the ice cream parlour and a child.

I think a lot of the commotion may relate to a lack of originality in most cases. Also, I understand that it is easy to make new buildings as we please from sets like the creator house, etc, but the thing that frustrates most city fans is Lego doesn't offer new parts for city as much as it could. E,g. for licensed sets there are always new minifigures but in City and other System sets, the figures are those which have been issued already in previous sets. The merry-go-round/carousel is the best example of this and the reason I won't be paying for one. There was also no point in buying the City Minifigures pack really as people already had the same figs from other sets! This brickfilm demonstrates this nicely! Also, it's new moulds for things that can't be built that well from bricks (as David says 'specialised pieces'). For example, people are really excited about the pigs as they are new and look far better than a brick-built version. It's more items like this which we want. I would love to see a moulded wheelchair for a minifig like the red cargo trolley. It would look a lot better than a clumsy brick-built effort. There is also the issue of variation. For example, new sizes and shaped windows and trees or bricks in differrent colours we haven't seen before (blue and green bikes and orange flowers please). Variety is the spice of life!

I did know about this set but isn't it cool when you find a set you never knew existed?! You are right this should be perfect for any town. It reminds me of a trip to Germany I went on - it was the first time I had seen a drive-thru! I just don't like the fact the only things that identify it as a McDonalds are the use of stickers.

The future of farm (contains spoilers for 2010 sets
lifeinplastic replied to lifeinplastic's topic in LEGO Town
Nice ideas guys. I do hope the theme will continue, especially as police/fire are never really new ideas, just rehashed versions of what we've seen before. It would be good to keep farm as an ongoing theme. E.g. only releasing one or two sets per wave of releases. This way it can be kept alive without exhausting all the ideas too quickly and having to wait another 10 years before it is revived. I agree with the earlier comment of having moulded birds (hens, geese, ducks, etc). The brick-built ones are clever but do look out of place with moulded cows, horses, etc. Anyway, I would like to see... -A famhouse (an old-style house with farmer and his wife, small vegetable garden, good fence pieces and maybe a farmer's vehicle) -A smaller milking shed (to get cheaper cows, maybe with the brown ones from the medieval market) -A milk float (not strictly farm but certainly related to dairy production!) -Stables for horses (I like the riding school idea but Lego should produce a GREY horse!) -Sheep are a must (perhaps an impulse set with a shepherd fig?) The ostrich farm is also a novel idea and I really like it, especially as the Prince of Persia sets are due to be released soon. I can see the ostriches and the camels filtering into Lego System sets before long! I'd like this to link with the same style as the old 6444 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6444-1 set as a more Outback-style farm! And you are right about Playmobil managing to keep their themes alive! They also have more focus on civilian life. -
Hi all, I'm sure most of you will by now have seen the 2010 pics, or at least the set list. I was really pleased to see the farm theme continuing with the pigs and a great tractor. This has to be the best of the 2010 city sets. So, do you think there will be more to come? After all, it is a theme which hasn't ever really been explored before. So what's next? Which animals/vehicles will we see? What else is missing? Take care R

I love the way this set was brought back as a Legend, along with the Pizza set. Just goes to prove that a set doesn't need to have a lot of action, like emergency service sets, to be considered as a favourite. They would not have bought these back if they were unpopular.
-
Sadly I don't think it is this piece. It's more like a grey version of the 'tap' used for the chicken vendor's ketchup and mustard bottles. A shame though, this piece is much better than the horrible taps they started using for the Harry Potter sets. Yes, this is a great set, possibly one of my all time Top 10 favourites. I was hoping the next airport to be released was going to be an island airport (with palm trees, etc) to tie in with a Paradisa-style beach city subtheme, perfect for recreating the perfect sunny holiday for any minifigure!

I think this was due to the translation from the original German set list. You are right though they do look like big piggies! Nice ideas KD. Don't forget the sheep too though!!!

No problem Tavares. Hopefully the fire sets will contain some decent parts so that even those who aren't that into emergency service could get the sets too, eg, some new civilian figures to be 'rescued'. I haven't seen any pictures yet but hopefully we'll see something soon. I'm really looking forward to the piglets! I take it you have seen the modular fire station is now out? I love the modular sets and surely this will be really useful for your fire brigade MOCs (money permitting I guess). Take care.

I think it would be cool to have a female head with glasses. In fact, it would be great if Lego released a lot of new heads. I'd like more variety but only wish they would all conform to the same 'style'. Too much difference nowadays. I think the current yellow heads with the eyes and white pupils style are the best... I would also like heads with blonde, grey, orange eyebrows to match a change in hair/wig colour, both pink and red lipstick for vriety, glasses, beards (not for women!), etc. I don't like the heads with teeth showing though!

It's sad children need to have toys/TV with the level of violence we see today. I am sure this has an effect on them and contributes to the reason why there is so much antisocial behaviour amongst youngsters today. I'm not saying all youngsters are like it but there certainly seems a lot less respect for things these days.
-
I think you are forgetting that people are entitled to express their views on whether they like things or not here, Tavares. I think most of the concerns aren't purely because they don't like fire sets. It's more the fact that The Lego Group only release a limited number of city sets each year. The fire sets are therefore taking the place of other potential sets, some of us City fans would prefer to see. There's nothing narrow-minded about wanting more variety.

Hi all, Thought I'd start a thread to ask which existing bricks you'd like to see in a colour that the brick is not currently available in. I'm adding this to the train and city thread, as I'm only really interested to hear about standard bricks to be used in these themes rather than turning the thread into a demand for a license wishlist (not interested in licenses - takes the imagination out of building but let's not get into that now). You know when you have a brick there but it just isn't available in the colour you really need to complete the perfect MOC/ town scene! I'll start... bikes (peeron 4719c01) - not just plain old red or black again. I'd love lime green, light blue and purple. flowers (peeron 3742) - i don't usually like orange bricks as too bright but it would be appropriate in this case. pillars (peeron 43888) - white, black (very useful for MOC city buildings, architecture) short legs (peeron 42879) - lots of colours --> including greens, reds, etc. More kid figs needed in lego also more grey hair!
-
I posted this in the ideas for new city sets thread but feel it may have been overlooked. I really like your ideas Klaus Dieter about having more civilian aspects to the city theme. The thing that is really missing from Lego City are residential buildings (houses, apartments, offices, etc). However, these can be built quite easily from other sets so I am not that bothered that we don't have them (perhaps a brick bucket with useful parts to build them would be good,eg windows, doors and roof parts in better, less bright colours). I'd really just like more variety in the figures we are offered (the carousel and the city minifigs packs just churn out the same minifigs we already have). Such a shame, especially as licensed sets always get new moulds, etc. anyway, I'd like a park in the city centre... Take care

I wish there were more City sets with a rural aspect to them. The farm sets are great, even if they aren't strictly 'City'. Even so, I'd like there to be more green spaces like real cities, such as parks, etc. I was annoyed that from the three sets we voted on last year, the preliminary design of the set we all thought would be like a town 'park' looked exactly like the 50th anniversary town plan, which perhaps put people off voting for it. Anyway, I'd like to see... It's also a shame we don't have many sets just to bulk our cities up with more minifigures. The 8401 City Mini-figure collection was a start but I already had all the figures from other sets and there weren't many of them or much variety. http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8401-1 It would be great to have a much larger version of this with a lot more figures, each one with new torsos and heads, which are not available in other sets. It should include about 25 figures, including children (with various new-coloured stubbies), old people, civilians in both casual and office attire and lots of trees, plants, flowers and accessories, such as new coloured bikes (1 lime green, 1 purple and 1 light blue please!). I'd also love a grey moulded manual wheelchair like the red cargo trolley. In my opinion, everyone would want to get this set as they would include new, exclusive figures and would please people wanting civilian sets without having to build something specific to add playability (they could just be sold as City 'filler' packs). They could even make 2 versions - a summer one (more Paradisa style figs) and a winter one (minifigs with coloured hands for gloves, the trees with snow, etc). I understand it would cost more to produce exclusive minifigures but they do it for the licensed sets all the time. It's frustrating they don't treat Lego City with the same importance it quite rightly deserves.

I'll admit I am disappointed to see more fire sets, especially after the 2009 city sets made the future of the line look so promising. It's also strange that there were many online polls from Lego asking what the fans wanted to see in City 2010. I remember that most requests were asking for new lines rather than emergency services. It's funny that the old company motto used to be 'Just Imagine', yet with the appearance of (in my opinion) too many licensed sets and the continuous repetition of fire and police sets we no longer are seeing much in the way of imagination. I know people are protective of the company that we all love and jump into these threads trying to defend the company's choices. I don't wish my comments to be seen as rude as my thoughts differ from others. I also acknowledge that Lego is a toy and is aimed at children. However, as paying customers I feel people have the right to show their opinions, especially when there is a lot of potential for new lines or to build remakes of old city lines, which aren't updated every couple of years, eg Paradisa style sets, which were very popular. Also, I would question whether every child would prefer a fire or police set. In my JFOL days I never bought a fire set. They just didn't appeal. I had limited funds and preferred the civilian sets, air shows, trains, outdoors/leisure, pizza shop, beach, harbour. Having said that, we haven't seen pics yet so the 2010 sets may be very good. I just hope the fire sets contain civilian figures and new torsos, heads, etc for minifigs as well as great parts, which are the most important bits for AFOLs. I'm looking forward to the piglets and (Stadtflitzer) cars! Other than fire, the remaining sets don't seem to stick to a theme, which is a little odd. Have we definitely ruled out Duplo?
