That's funny. I like the way you presented it. It's good to see you combining medieval and pirate (and POTC) themes. I'm sort of doing the same thing.

Probability of returning to Classic Pirates after POTC...
Churchill replied to David Thomsen's topic in LEGO Pirates
I agree. I'm trying to incorporate some of the kingdom sets (MMV, Mill Village Raid) into an 18th century theme. I think if Classic Pirates does return, it could really benefit from the structures in POTC and the new Kingdom sets. It could be a new "golden age" for Pirates! -
Thank you so much for doing these. I might actually buy both of these sets again to build this. I'd be curious to see some actual pictures from anyone who's actually built it.

Thanks for this great review. I don't think I have any new thoughts, other than what we've all been saying all along. It looks like it is what we thought it was. I wish they could have added some bulkheads inside, but that's easy to MOD. I'm very underwhelmed with the blue tubing used for the engines. I thought that solution was fine on the midi version, but here, it just doesn't cut it. The underside is just too plain. Too flat. All that being said, I like the playability. It's much more than just a feature; it's an environment where you can recreate the scenes from the movies, but also create new scenes. I don't have 4504, and I think the mandibles are really disproportionate on this one, but seeing the comparison shots, I do think the overall look of this is much better. So all in all, I think it's a good set, and I'll probably get it. I'd love a much more accurate model, but that's why I have the UCS Falcon. This one will be a bit more fun to play with. For my kids, of course.

Good job... I can just imagine the looks you got in the store...

I love a critical review. It's perfectly appropriate for an AFOL to reflect on what a set means to AFOLs. Just because a set is not good for AFOLs doesn't mean that TLG's target audience (kids) doesn't love it, and it doesn't mean TLG doesn't know how to run a good business. I really enjoy the reviews on the brickshow.com They aren't as in depth as ours, but they give a rating for different age groups. I realize that this is an AFOL site, but perhaps we could incorporate that into our reviews, if for no other reason than for those of us with kids who love Lego.

This is true. I agree that it would be great to have TLG more responsive to AFOL's, but I believe it's just not going to happen. They know what they're doing, to make money. They know how to do it better than I do. I just posted on the 2011 rumors about how much I dislike the new MF. And... guess what I'll buy when it's released? Yep. It's just human nature. So, I think it's ok to talk about what we like and don't like about the sets, that's partially what these forums are for. But I think we have to be realistic in questioning TLG's practices.

The mandibles looking even more disproportionate in that last side view. I think that the blue tubing looked fine for the engines in the midi version, but not this one. Landing gear isn't very inspiring. Overall, I'm still not impressed.

[Review] 6918-1: Blacksmith Attack
Churchill replied to evilempire22's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
A bucket of chicken! Now I have to get this set! Oh, wait, a bucket with chicken. Oops. Sorry lightningtiger, but I couldn't help myself. -
The way some people post- with 10-20 posts a day with one or two words ("Great MOC," "Me, too!") it's not been hard for some people who have been on for just a few months to get way up there with post counts. I think the time constraint is a good idea, and I wish ranks had some time constraint, too.

That's a great way to display those. I might have to think about that, since I don't have room for a permanent layout.

Probability of returning to Classic Pirates after POTC...
Churchill replied to David Thomsen's topic in LEGO Pirates
I agree. I see no reason for them not to, unless they think the interest isn't there. The new molds would make it a piece of cake to create all new kinds of sets with little trouble. Of course, this would open up the yellow vs. flesh debate.... -
Time, and resources...

Picture Comment Challenge - Counting up the votes
Churchill replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Steve Meitzler - "Help, my bass is on fire!"- 3 points This comment is brief but effective. Jack's one liners are usually his best comments. You don't really have to spend alot of time thinking about the comment before you can laugh! Jack as usual is focused on the minor point that has only to do with himself. He doesn't care about the fire, about the zombies: most importantly, his fish is on fire! Of course, the use of the word bass also fits with the way Jack talks. The use of the double entendre is classic Jack. Six words, but perfectly captures the character. Great work, Steve. -
Thanks, Kieldeman! My profile begins to take on some character...

I think I'm finally eligible for one of these. I'd be grateful..

Rather than use the same adjectives that everyone else has used (all of which I agree with), let me say, that in light of the new SW sets, if Lego announced that they were going to release this as a set alone, and nothing else, for 2012, I'd be ecstatic. I would gladly give up a year or two of mediocre sets for the opportunity to build and own this.

So, Fallenangel posts comparison picks, which I think are a welcome addition, and he still gets criticized ("don't encourage him")? Why is it that some people just want to bash Fallenangel any opportunity they get? Anyway, I don't really like the Sith Infiltrator. This was the one I was looking forward to the most, but the "accessories" really seem lacking to me. A lightsaber and gun stand? Why do we need that? And his speeder bike just looks like something thrown together with extra pieces. Having now seen the Ewok attack, the Hoth set, and the Sith Infiltrator up close, I'm really disappointed with this wave overall. I know that's a subjective opinion, and others will disagree with me. But I just finished building Mill Village Raid and Medieval Market Place, and I can't understand why the SW sets seem poor in comparison.
-
Ah, so maybe the falling icicles are retconed in for the 3-D version! Love it, Praiter Yed.
-
Thanks for this review. I'm still not sure about the tree. It looks like something thrown together to make a set with more Ewoks and a speeder bike. I'll probably get this set anyway, though.

I don't own the Super Chief. I think the nose still looks a little boxy. Maybe the general design of the EMD GP and SD locomotives just lend themselves well to Lego. I do agree that for pure visual effect, the Super Chief (certainly the prototype) would win every time. Thanks for this poll and thread, Brickster. I'm curious to see what others say.
-
I'd have to go with the Maersk. I only wish that it wasn't a "Maersk" locomotive. To me, it looks the most realistic. It's well proportioned, seems to have all the right detail, and simple looks amazing. If I was picking a paint scheme, of the three, I have to go with the Super Chief. Now, if I could build the Maersk in Chessie System colors...
-
I just ordered the Medieval Market Village, and the sent me the POTC poster, even though I didn't order any POTC sets. I thought that was the requirement for that poster, so seems like they're doing the same thing with that promotion as they did with the ARF.

The 2-1B arms and legs don't match the color of the body. I wonder if that's final.

That Luke from the Bacta tank is our first view of something from the Hoth set, isn't it? I like the way it looks, but can't imagine what else it could be used for.
