Star Wars: The Clone Wars: season 3 discussion
Churchill replied to Corvus's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Now that I've seen the commentary for this last episode, I think I may get why these episodes are so... screwy. Filoni seems to be implying that this whole arc is a "dream" of sorts, equating it to the tree on Dagobah. All of this is intended to give Obi-Wan, Ashoka and Annakin a glimpse of the future. Which would imply that none of this is real. At least I hope that is what Filoni is saying. If none of this is real, THEN the symbolism is okay with me. And yes, I DO get the symbolism. So I'll see what this week's episode brings. The commentary gives me hope that they aren't changing canon with completely new force users who underpin our whole understanding of the force. -
I missed the reference to your blog, Brickdoctor. Where is it?

I'd never seen those views- I still can't place that piece... I'm not sure I like the look. I'd like to talk at length about this, but I've hijacked the x-wing thread...!
-
I have no plan! The problem comes when you try to angle inward toward the front. Brickdoctor- I can't figure out what pieces those are on the MOC. I've stared at that a loooong time and can't figure out the piece. I can get a good profile for the back of the hull, and the front profile looks fine. It's just that there has to be some "jump" to get angled in towards the nose. But I digress from the x-wing under discussion...

I was just thinking an OT thread, not a subforum.
-
We can just pick on FallenAngel...
-
Maybe to avoid some conflict, we could have an OT discussion thread, where NO comparisons between it, PT, and CW exists. Anyone can look and participate, but it's purely about the OT, and those of use more "purist" OT types can just wax philosophical about the OT and attention to OT detail... We could talk about specific OT questions, and OT MOCs or methods in MOC's that really help to achieve detail, and OT sets and rumours. In that setting, Brickdoctor, FallenAngel, myself, etc, could just go on and on without getting criticized too much.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: season 3 discussion

In all of the clone wars vs OT/PT discussions, I've defended CW, and implored people to give it a chance. And I am first and foremost a OT fan. So in fact, our criticisms of these episodes are not just looking for an excuse to "hate on it more." Defensive, anyone? And, frankly, the implication that some of the symbolism in these "cartoons" is going over our heads is.... well....a bit insulting. As much flack as the OT side has taken recently, maybe some of the CW fans need to look in the mirror. Quit being so defensive, and acknowledge that even your beloved CW can have flaws. Even the diehard OT fans will admit that the OT has flaws. I just think it's ironic that OT fans have been portrayed as "closed minded." -
I love this review! I actually like how the minifigs "posed" for a group shot when you introduced them. And the poses are amazing. I laughed all the way through. Thanks, Rufus!

Maybe they're going to try to tie this brother to Palpatine somehow. -

Boy I just don't get it. Anakin's turning to the dark side in the PT made sense to me. The prophecy of the Chosen One makes a little bit of sense to me, though I always wanted to understand it, and how the Jedi misinterpreted it, more. This explanation we're getting seems a bit odd and unnecessary. It's almost as if the whole issue of the force is being reworked. I'm sorry, but this story arc seems to be a completely unnecessary "retcon" and I don't use the word lightly. It's almost as if the original explanations and theories from the PT and OT weren't good enough, and GL decided to just reinvent the whole issue, using a way that just doesn't fit within the broader SW mythos. I hope the final episode in this "arc" tightens it up a bit, because I personally don't like where this is going. -
All I keep thinking is I wish we could get a custom piece for the flashback supressor from Brickforge, etc. Heck, we'd buy enough of them to make it worthwhile. I hoping that one of these days one of us can pull of snot on these wings, cause I really love the way it looks. I'm trying to achieve it with my WIP A-wing, but I still can't quite get it right. I too would like to see the wings and the cannons a bit longer. All in all, though, looks good so far.
-
Hmmm. Maybe wishful thinking but I'm hoping this aren't final either. The jedi need some tweeking, I think, esp Kidi's head. I actually like Luke's hair. Seems the most realistic for him we've seen. I also think (even though I don't have it) I'd like the old Maul head- the head pieces with a seam just doesn't look right.

So maybe this will be the one part of this set that you won't disassemble! Maybe you can keep it on your desk to play with like an executive toy. Use the force, Brickdoctor!

Brickdoctor, thanks for a great review. I got this because I didn't have any other snowspeeder. I don't really like the cave, I just kind of built it into the Hoth diorama I have. The big rock looks out of place to me. I don't get the light saber launch mechanism as a play feature. If Luke can't catch it... what's the point? At least a flick fire missle can knock something over, and the springboards at Echo base simulate the rebels getting knocked down. The speeder is so so. Since its the only one I have, I'm satisfied for now, but I'd like to see a better version too. As you know, I love the inclusion of the Aurebesh, but I wish it wasn't a sticker. All in all, an ok set, but it just doesn't all "fit" in my opinion.

Why I would have this one I don't know, but after seeing the picture, I realized somewhere around here is an old Kenner action figure of that droid..... -
Fives, your avatar I think is the only one that I look at and feel like that's actually you (other than the actual pictures of people) talking when I'm reading. It's kind of weird in a good way.

Poll: what Battle Scene would you like to see next?
Churchill replied to Sir von Lego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think, like brickdoctor and fallenangel, that something with an urban warfare flare, like Muunilinst, would be great- you could really go crazy with structures, and imbed alot of little vignettes of not only the combatants, but also the affected city life. -

I looked in the reviews at the older snowspeeders... so is Zev's Rogue Two the only Lego set with Aurebesh on it? -
I like the idea, but wouldn't it be alot more work to set up and maintain? At least it would be a safe haven to be your OT self- are you thinking only older sets, or classic as in OT?

Well, guess we'll have to see if FallenAngel puts that on his latest xwing. If not, it's not accurate, I guess. I was thinking that one of the good things that could come of out on OT MOC database would be a good way for us to come to a consensus on the best way to do some things. For example, until a better x-wing comes out, what some options for modifications are, or links to what others have tried. I know everyone would have their own opinions, but you could have in one place, for example, several examples of x-wings. -

For the first time tonight, I noticed the Aurebesh writing on the side of Luke's x-wing in ESB. When he's lifting off from Hoth. It's the same kind of placement on the snowspeeders (I only have Zev's version to compare) which says "rogue two." Has anyone else noticed this, or have a still/close up? Maybe once the blu ray version comes out, it will be easier to see. I'm sure it's just Luke's designation, I just never noticed it before... -
Since we're showing our OT colors here, maybe this does fit in the current topic! I'm going to ask an OT question in the SW topic before we get yelled at in this one.
-
Silence of the Lambs reference. Sorry. Re: Your last x-wing, liked it. I don't like the 1x2's for the flashback suppressors, but other than that I thought is was good. I wish we had a section where we could keep current MOC's from the OT, for continued review, reference, etc. Like a reference library, as opposed to just an index of MOC's. But since none of this has anything to do with CW, I guess I digress too much.

I don't have a problem with your pics. It's your MOC's... just kidding. I'll send you some cake with liver for the use of the pic. And I nice chianti.
