Wild West: Ghost Town Images "leaked" (UPDATED #3)
Berry Syedow replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Excellent work, Brick Miner. The scare crow head works well. Both images wonderfully resonate the dark mysterious vibe you were probably reaching for. The Brickster's thread was very creative. I'm not in the know because I haven't been keeping tabs on the history forum, but have you two considered "teaming up" for optimum creativity? -
Perhaps I am in the minority among pirate fanatics, but I think the Aqua Raiders theme is shaping up to be great. It has minimal juniorization for a system theme and as oo7, said, we

Indeed. Admiral, are you winging this MOC? It looks like it'll be in line with most of the work you've already presented to us. Even so, I like the idea of a work in progress from start to finish.

Captain Roger, is that the front view of the tower? I'm thinking not, but then why would the cannon positioning be so far back? Are there other pirate members absent from the picture? Because they sure have a lot of swords... Is the Wolfpack somehow affiliated with this gang of pirates? What is that object on the yellow table?
-
Aye, very much so. Very well, Mr. Bonaparte. I hope someone eventually has the heart to dismantle the set and MOC it. It just goes to show how much of a testimony this set is in terms of design and quality to TLC. The USS Monitor is certainly interesting, now we just need those MOC pictures...
-
Heh, congratulations on the find! Was the BSB still mint inside the box? What is your opinion of the set? (If you've built it already...)

In this thread, Mr Tiber created a MOC using the red hull, and a red color scheme. This might give you a better idea of what your MOC will eventually look like. IMO, a red hull doesn't force you to use a particular color scheme, rather it becomes necessary to stretch your creativity to develop more complex color schemes. Unless you lack bricks, Mr. Bonaparte...

Over two weeks have passed without nary a response. Mr. Nacker, if you can hear me, what is the situation of Captain’s Fall? I'd like to see the ship in the real world, with the captain, too. What ye be lookin’ fer is a piratical digital designarrr. ;-) Now wouldn't it be spiffy if TLC added the option to divide the factory into themes?
-
Ack, silly me! Of course nobody would collect that many tiles... :-P However, I still think the construction is too similar not to be the same MOC. There is also a teepee in the background of the town under attack while we see a group of

In my humble opinion, the Eldorado Fortress is unimpressive for a "be all and end all of Imperial Guard Fortresses". TLC certainly could've been more clever with their resources. Such as creating two/three/four separate forts that joined or morphed (collect them all and build a larger fort with their parts!) into something truly impressive.

Jabba's Sail Barge - The best 2006 Pirates Set?
Berry Syedow replied to Legeaux's topic in Pirate MOCs
The Sail Barge is one of the most extravagant builds in recent times, featuring many unique techniques (my scientific analyses surmised from a few reviews...). For a long time Star Wars was the springboard for most of TLC's bold design decisions. Now that's beginning to trickle into other system themes. (Creator, mainly, Vikings and Batman to an extent.) Mr. Legeaux, what is your opinion of Lando Calrissian's disguise/hat? From the pictures I've seen, it looks like it harbors potential for the castle theme. (Some newfangled race of bearded beings?) Harsh. ;-) Here's a link that should work. It's a decent alternative model, IMO. -
Could this challenge possible be expanded to include any ship from the trilogy of POTC? Not everyone has adequate material for this ship, so it would fairer to everyone and it would encourage more people to participate. That's a shame, Mr. Tiber. Is the prospect of a brick built hull too daunting to ever tackle again?
-
D'oh, this thread flew right over my head! Mr. Tiber, your latest effort is fine indeed! The bow area is nicely constructed. I see a +4 mast is used for the bowsprit. Why is the pirate with the red rags holding a musket? Judging by the way they're surrounding the captain I'd guess that a mutiny is in progress! ;-) Or it very well could be a friendly discussion of some sort...

Believe me, Mr. Ironhook, 'tis the size that befuddles you. In almost all cases the larger a creation, the less apparent its LEGO roots are (sometimes coupled with an absurd amount of details). Sometimes mini-figs are the only distinguishing factor. I do wish that Dr. Carney would add mini-figs to his sculptures because they would add much needed life to the MOCs.
-
Quite possibly there are no sails because the ship is powered by oars? (Though they could be reserved for sharp maneuvering...)
-
Think of the Parents' wallets, Ironhook! Like the old adage says, size isn't always everything. If a play set can incorporate a lot of details, then it doesn't need to be a hulking beast of massive proportions. That is one of the qualities I admire older sets for. Using KKII as an example, the sets are devoid of details. They are facades made to look lovely at a particular angle (Ha! Or so I believe.). The Viking fortress also comes to mind. It was lauded as an architectural achievement (as far as LEGO sets go), but the inside is barren.
-
Woah, that ship deserves its own thread. *y* The "stiffened calico sails" are more natural looking than the parchment paper, IMO. Did you switch to parchment paper because the other material drooped too much?
-
SirScottLego, this is quite the attractive ship. I haven't seen many people use the bar pieces as railing, though, judging by the spacing it looks as if you had a slim supply. The situation of the cannons is too random (I really can't stand that. :-P), and I'm not big on the "gold" bow area. Why did you substitute a wagon wheel for the ship's wheel? Because I've been thinking that a "dwarf wheel" would be handy for cramped spaces... A little something TLC might want to consider when they revise the Pirate Line.
