  1. ...And a Pirates Chess Set! I can think of various combinations. Pirates vs. Islanders, Pirates vs. Red/blue coats, Red coats vs. Blue coats (not entirely sure if they're both British), Red/blue coats vs. Spaniards. The list goes on and on. Whenever TLC revives the theme they need to make a Pirates Chess set!
  2. Yeah, the knights are a disappointment. TLC should’ve used this piece to differentiate the knights from the previous set. Not to mention that dark red and dark blue would be great additions to that mold. The rooks are passable for including a Viking Shield. What it all boils down to is if you’re an army builder (chess fanatic? :-P) or not. I’ll be getting at least one of these come Christmas.
  3. This just in from Classic-Castle.com: A new Viking Chess Set! 8-
  4. Actually I already read a review on C-C.com, but more reviews are always welcome. *sweet*
  5. 7020 looks oh so juicy. The Viking Theme is truly a triumphant accomplishment. This is what KK2 could've been if some backbone was put into the project. I hope with all my heart that the Viking sale numbers aren't discouraging by the end of the year. If the theme is renewed they should immediately configure an opposing faction. That seems to be what the kiddos crave. *Sheds a tear* If only it were so.
  6. King's Castle is a set I've been undecided on up until now. Without a second thought I'd buy the Viking Fortress because it's a better deal, set design-wise, and piece to price ratio. It does not suffer from the degree of juniorization present in the KC. And the Viking torsos are printed. Structurally the castle is lame. Four towers and a middle section? Hasn't that been done to death? Never mind that TLC claims the KC is a "legend". :-| Because it isn't. ;-) At least they did something right, that ghost is scary looking! :-P Excellent review, dunamis. I probably won't buy this set, ever. That <insert that tiresome argument> archway is bad enough, but in bley, yuck! Awesome! That's one of the few technic sets that have caught my attention. I anticipate your musings.
  7. One of the thoughts that popped into my head is to add an archway over each gun port. The arches join into a single pillar~(all of them joined in the middle, between each gun port) The pillars can extend to the edge of the white and end in inverted slopes, like the ones already situated on the ship
  8. This is an interesting assortment of links, however I'm a bit sceptical of this so called name generator because it just coughs out random combinations of names. I've got another Pirate name generator that generates the name based on the name you type into it, rather than just random combinations. Precisely what a generator is! Yours sounds neat-o, mind giving us the link if it's not too much to ask? :-P Ha! You know, a ghostly locust ship isn't a bad idea. The ship could be made to look like the disregarded remains of its old exoskeleton. The head would obviously be the figurehead. ;-) I bet the sails could be made using scotch tape to resemble the "wings". The cannons would protrude from the ship to form the legs of its "body". Alas I am a babbling fool. I still haven't finished those islander mocs! (doesn't help that our house is receiving an appraisal, restricting all my LEGO activities to my insanely small room; [rant]I mean really, it's the smallest room in the house, and I'm over six feet tall. I need more room![/rant]) :-( )
  9. Sweet Moses, that is disgusting! What an awful nightmare. *slowly shakes head* That has to be the worst LEGO deal, period. Best of luck getting that smell out of the pieces. :-/ I
  10. Congratulations, and best of luck, mate. How long have you been involved with robo-cup junior?
  11. Hmmm! You learn something new everyday. X-D The ship looks much better with the added sails, IMHO. ;-) Previously there was a lot of wasted space. Glad to see it filled up. The cannons, in my opinion, look just fine. Mr. Sean is right, in that those rails could use a coat of red paint on top. Pillage 'n' Burn on! Arrrgh!
  12. Sir Dillon, it looks like he switched them up during shooting (or it's an optical illusion): The Marathon's a step up from the Corinithian (which looks way too boxy in my opinion :-/). That picture has me confused, was the middle mast always the highest? The cabin doesn't jive with the ship. It suffers from the boxy syndrome. The railing-muskets are a nice touch. The figurehead with the conquistador helmet and crossed swords is nice. Overall, the Marathon is a good MOC; toss in a few more details (ship's sides are too plain), and fix the cabin, and it'll be great!
  13. I don't quite understand the problem. Ghoulrealm built part of the "Flying Dutchman", however that MOC is completely removed from the LEGO pirate world. Almost all of the recent MOCs have been ships, anyway. Nothing particularly POTC... It's true the Islanders don't get enough attention. So I've decided to make a few Islander MOCs. It'll be fun to see what Apo's done. ;-)
  14. One must admit that the size of that mast is unbelievable, but I think it's relatively proportionally accurate. (A picture for reference: Lady Washington (replica). It's not much bigger than the Red Peril.) Other than the rail transition to the bow, I like the sloop. Good work, Mr. Tiber!
  15. Ahem, please excuse my belated post. Mr. Tiber, the frigate is a lovely MOC. Most notable is the management of the bow, which I think is beautifully accomplished. I like that the ship's sides slope out to disrupt the monotony. I agree with dreamweb, you did a good job of not overflowing the ship with cannons. Are the ship's lights an original design? I don't believe I've seen it built quite that way before. I also agree that the ship's aesthetic improves dramatically with the sails' introduction. As far as browsers go, I prefer Mozilla Firefox. It's because of the cool logo. ;-)
  16. Thank you for clearing that up. When can we expect another ship from you?
  17. Like what ghoulrealm said, that's probably the best solution. I don't like to raise the bow because it ends up looking too jagged. If I had some brown or dark grey slopes I'd try something SNOTty, but alas I don't. Come Christmas time I'll visit bricklink for sure. 'Glad you liked the arches. :-) Yep, one of my favorite aspects of the sloop.
  18. Superb! The light grey window frame is just a little nitpick. If you're confined to that color it's fine. Har! Now that's a backstory! :-D
  19. Excellent, can we have some interior shots of the cabin?
  20. Realism is great, but it needs a dash of fantasy to spice it up. Captain Roger, I doubt TLC would put mermaids into their pirate theme. It wouldn't appeal to boys. :-| Infact we might not get any woman! 8-
  21. Interesting article, Mr. eight! It hadn't occured to me to put a list of "military-esque" ship names. So here we go. *sweet*
  22. Thanks! Willy, you're one of the few mates who've built a sloop, and on top of it I like it so it did serve as a bit of an inspiration. Berry prefers not to be emotionally attached to his men. He's a man of mystery, surrounded by myths. Many of which he's spread himself. Thank you! I tried my best to pay attention to the details. I'll keep that in mind for my next ship.
  23. After a quick google search I came across this site. There's some unrelated information that may be useful to the non-pirate fans or if you're also into that stuff. :-P ;-) Some useful information on pirate names: http://lowchensaustralia.com/names/piratenames.htm Boat names and nautical terms: http://lowchensaustralia.com/names/boats.htm#1 Ship names (star wars, pirate, and chinese!): http://lowchensaustralia.com/names/boats.htm#2 Some links don't work, but most of the good stuff is still there. One other site that generates ship names: http://www.springhole.net/generators/pshipnamegen.htm
  24. A bit overdue... Pirates 2, Labyrinth, and Dark Crystal. Pirates is very entertaining if not a bit silly in some parts. I was dreading watching the flick because so many people had said it wasn't good. Time flew by quickly, and the plot isn't confusing if you just pay attention. Lab was great fun. I loved all of the puppet characters and David Bowie made a good villain (with a funky hairdo). Dark Crystal was O.K. The leads should've been actors because the puppets didn't work at all. They had no facial expressions. When they walked it looked cheesy (bobbing up and down). The story's narrative is lacking. Everything else is nice.
  25. Arr, he's the one steerin' the thing! That other guy is actually a guest appearance by Captain Red Beard. :-D I would've made the railing higher, but I practically had *just enough* round pieces to finish the job (something like a skinny round piece ontop a regular round piece would've been good). Thank you guys for the comments!
