  1. well... i admit i haven't taken the time to review all your creations, but for example, in your broke spoke mountain western MOC, i didn't like the vertical plates used to old up the trough, and im not a big fan of "cut outs" like the side of the mountain. im a little more traditional, and like three-four sided (stand alone) LEGO creations. here i don't like the front slope... but basically it's just an overall feeling of an "un-SYSTEM" building style. im a little more conservative with my techniques, and am not too fond of the so called AFOL "advanced" techniques. i don't think they are advanced... i think they're sloppy.however, that's building techniques, which is a totally different ball game from conceptualization. that's why i'd love to see more from you in this theme... to see what your overall vision for this theme is. you might also try not calling this theme, post-apocalyptic. maybe call it "PA inspired science-fantasy." it might help with all the PA-based criticism, and i don't think the new classification will hurt your MOC or your concept. thanks - i'll check it out.- BM
  2. hey im up to 224 (all positives) now X-O ya, some situations are hard... im lucky to have had all my transactions end well.--------------------------------------------------
  3. ya, your right... but thats not it, because i gave criticism too ;-) i guess for this particular MOC, i wasn't reading the "wow" "wow" "wow" responses that i feel when i look at it. again sirnadroy, i love this. and it's not often im this impressed with a LEGO creation... and its not often i think other's MOCs are better than my own :-P X-D but this one hits the mark. in fact, the only other MOC in which i remember feeling this touched was TheBrickster's Putrid Creek Mill. again, better than mine. but ya, i definitely feel it's more deserving than a "not bad" ( ;-) SW4J) and im not saying you should throw the critz out the window, but i think you should hear the other end of it too - the praise. because i for one, would love to see you encouraged by the community, and would definitely love to see you expand on this concept, just as it is. your a real artist, with a vision of a great world here - i would hate to see your vision compromised. as for the "too much brown" comments... i don't mind it at all. maybe cause im a western fan :-D but no, really, i think it looks like rust, not wood. especially since it's reddish-brown - i think it works. and to express again how much i love this... this is only the second MOC i've seen that i would actually build myself, given the piece list (hint, hint, hint). the first MOC in which i thought this was TheBrickster's (one mentioned above). so, can we expect to see more ??? - BM
  4. wow... im really impressed with this... probably the most refreshing MOC i have seen in a while. i love the idea of concept building, and that is exactly what you have done here. it actually reminds me a lot of another high concept idea i have... a "captain planet" style industry/pollution sub-theme to city. i can't say quite why it reminds me of that, as the two concepts are very different... but i think this MOC has the "feeling" i was imagining for the industry/pollution. BTW, *wub* *wub* *wub* i love this, i can't say it enough !!!!!!!!!!!!! your figs are excellent... especially the brain, so creative !!! i can imagine it's a strange world they live in. the imagery im getting from them is very strong, as there is a lot of character behind them. they paint a complex story just with their visual appearance. i can't believe you are getting so much criticism here... the only thing i don't like is the brick built slope in the front... i like the overall shape it gives the boat, but i don't think it looks right next to the one piece hull. i think maybe people are getting caught up (SW4J and chuck ;-) ) because they have a pre-conceived notion of what "post apocalyptic" means to them... i think the genre is up to interpretation. so for me, instead of placing these into a prior PA story and setting, im imagining a world of their own. its very powerful. i have to say, that i haven
  5. yes, that's another one !!! i knew somebody would post something to jog me of my quirks ;-) yes, there are sets i buy to own the set (of those purchases, i never use any of the piece for anything except the main model on the front of the box), and then there are sets that i buy for parting-out to make MOCs, sell, etc... but the two never cross. - BM
  6. oh good, i thought that sounded pretty lonely - though, im sure i've done it at least once :-$ - BM
  7. wow, i thought i was surely the only one who considered this... i just figured i wanted to keep the sets as mint as possible - including an unused sticker sheet. :-D gottcha ;-) but im the same with my western figs... i only collect the original versions.-------------------------------------------------- ya, that's true... for my old style MOCs (like my western ones styled after 1996 building) i use the older "filled" support tubes and the old brown and grey colors. and for my more recent styled MOCs (ones that go with my city 2007 collection) i use always use the newer "holed" support tubes and the new brown and grey colors.so that is true - using one style per MOC. but you know, LEGO doesn't even do this... all of my AquaRaiders sets came with both styles. really strange |-/ -------------------------------------------------- oh, and i don't even consider saving boxes and catalogs a strange quirk... i even save every piece of plastic and cardboard packaging (including bags and trays)... eveything that comes with the set i save. - BM
  8. i've talked about some of my quirks in plenty of other threads. i know we talked about how i like each of my studs to either face forward or to the right (when applicable) when building in this thread. and i know i've talked about how i only like bricks and plates without holes in the support bars (the "holed" ones i sell on BL.) ==> also, when i buy a sealed set that includes a sticker sheet, i buy an extra copy of the sticker sheet off of BL, so that i can retain one "mint" and unused copy. im also very particular about whether my vintage minifigs have an "X" or "four tooth" orientation under the torso (where the legs connect.) vintage minifigs that were re-released in the 2002 legends line have the "X" while the original versions have the four teeth connection ;-) i like the original releases. im sure there are plenty of things i do without even thinking about it... maybe some of them will be brought out in this thread... as it has the makings to be very interesting X-D - BM
  9. thanks soooooo much for posting that jesper... i have always wondered where the LEGO icon for "post" came from.that and the red mail boxes in the 2008 line all makes sense now. thanks. - BM
  10. :-D this thread is awesome - BM by the way, Phes... do you post often drunk ??? i've seen you mention it a few times. or when i read it should i automatically apply one of these ==> ;-)
  11. ya, i wonder if he ment it to look like that... it does seem incomplete.i wish we got to see more of this stage coach... it actually looks pretty good. and i havn't seen a coach im completely sold on yet... i'd like to see what he did. - BM
  12. :-D thanks zouave... im glad someone has finally attached a realistic number to the amount of improvement i have made in a year and a half :-D - BM
  13. im not sure chuck... for me, that's not fine in may book... LEGO's other fundamental is (should be) that it inspires building. if LEGO took the approach that they don't have to design good models because the consumers would alter their toys anyway, we would end up having a bunch of part-packs thrown together in a real hodge-podge mess. i for one want good solid models, that when i see it on the shelf, i say "wow, now that would be cool to build. now that's inspiring." if i see a bunch of junky models on the shelf, im not inspired, at all... in fact, i would look for another hobby. something where the creators care about their end product.though, maybe LEGO is just looking to make part-packs... i kinda of think get a feeling when i look at the new castle line. me, i don't like that. i get inspired by quality solid models... city 2007 did it for me, thats for sure ;-) - BM
  14. wow, i didn't know this happened... i've only NOT gotten stuff in sealed sets... like my sticker sheet for 7775 |-/ but this gives me hopes for some free stuff someday, to make me and LEGO even >:-) - BM
  15. while i think the blue and white plane is a much better design, who knows... i think we have already determined that these images were only preliminary dealer catalog designs. so lets hope they make some adjustments for the real product *sweet* - BM
  16. this discussion happened not to long ago. you can find some members thoughts on new castle factions ideas here... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=9787 we try and not have duplicate topic threads, so try doing a search on the EB board before starting topics that have the potential for having already been discussed. that way you can just add to the discussion already in place !!! also the indexed threads at the top of the forum are helpful reference ;-) thanks !!! - BM
  17. actually, i think it is for you to decided... we all decided how we act, and have to accept the consiquences of those choices. i'd say you're on the path to being a very respected member of the AFOL community. so, it seems you are choosing the right path, and if so, you will be accepted here on EB whenever you chose to visit *sweet* - BrickMiner
  18. hey 007... i remember seeing this for the first time a couple days ago (might have been yesterday, actually). in any case, this one is pretty new to BS *y* i really like this set up, there is some great architecture in there. my favorite thing is probably the different varying combinations of basic WW architecture featured. my favorite (and what i love) is the red/white building toward the back (probably a single family house or court house ???). the builder uses the ornamental white arches that i used on LEGOREDO STATION, and applies them perfectly. what i don't like are the train and train crossing. i don't like the modern train crossing sign just before the tracks, and i don't the like modern train cars, like the hopper wagon. - BM

  20. if its true that LEGO did this on purpose, that's fine with me too... i just hope they heard me X-D - BM
  21. here you go... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...wtopic=9805&hl= X-D - BM
  22. yes, in my entire setup i have a ghost town on the outskirts of the train's path, past the calvary fort. i have a few MOCs that i want to publish individually before i take photos of the whole scene (like a post office, and a redesign of my stagecoach). i'd like to say that is in the near future, but im pretty slow. so, don't look for that anytime soon :-D thanks - BM
  23. that's a good point... 2007 was a killer year, by far the best since 1996 X-D .- BM
  24. for others responses you might want to read this thread... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...topic=11083&hl= my response is there ;-) - BM
  25. im glad to read that the sign was a good move. to make it, i actually took a photo of the saloon girl, then traced it in adobe illustrator. this was the result: - BM
