we usually go up to jerome when we visit, so it's a pretty rural drive... i think that is an interesting town, with some interesting history. and i've seen some other "attractions" like montezuma's well/castle, etc... :-D ya, it is pretty much a tourist trap, etc... but it's the nicest mountain in the area, i think.- BM

you must have some very interesting terrain/rock formations by you Apache, to have taken this photo. very cool.i have come to really enjoy wild west terrain building, myself... and i like what you did in the original post. though, im surprised to not see some custom torsos (i think we talked about customs a while ago, right ???) to diversify your bandits. so, now that you have expand the western population, what's your next move for the theme ??? ;-) - BM

yes, i agree... in fact, i always interpreted him as the depute in 6755, sheriff's lock-up.though, i do love hearing other peoples interpretations of the western characters... interesting. - BM

Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?

there is at lest tan also.- BM -
im with sava on this one... im not sure how many others would be inspired by this building, but its the inspiration behind my first city MOC *wub* the Barnes & Thornburg building in Indianapolis, IN, USA (my former hometown) implements perfectly the architectural style commonly known as "chicago school." characterized by the icon ancient civilization "column" this architecture style is composed in three sections, a base, middle, and crown. this is the best picture i could find of it. and let me tell you, it does not do it justice >:-( also, unfortunately, this site does not allow "deeplinks"... so you'll have to link to it manually. sorry. http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=barnes...anapolis-in-usa -------------------------------------------------- after that, i would like to try some post-modern architecture and try a "300 north meridian" style tower, also in indianapolis... http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=118691 -------------------------------------------------- im also dabbling in a gothic revival style commercial building. i think the woolworth building in NYC, and the tribune tower in chicago are great examples of gothic revival... http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=woolwo...yorkcity-ny-usa http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=tribun...-chicago-il-usa the problem with gothic revival style architecture is that there is a strong use of vertical lines... and to make a LEGO building modular (which i am trying to do, to somewhat fit the CC style) is difficult, because you need a horizontal platform to place each story on. - BrickMiner

Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?

american civil war style "kepi" hats are another element that has A LOT of special colors available right now *wub* - BM -
yes, the glow is really nice on the new color from 10176... i got about 10 from SLIM CHANCE for about 60 US cents when the set was first released. they are what appear in my MOC, GHOST TOWN'S HAUNTED PASS.actually at first i was very angry that LEGO had replace another color, GITD. but now i see they are still producing both colors (angler fish amush 7771). which i think is strange *wacko* i like a limited pallet of colors. in any case, i like the newer much better than the old. - BM

Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?

on this issue i have done some research as well, and asked the sellers themselves, as to where they get the special colors. the answer i was given was the same as all ready stated, but i will verify... test runs in red and trans-clear. and special events. the sellers who are offer these special pieces, MAGICBRICKS, 1001 BRICKS, SLIM CHANCE, OLD LEGO PARTS AND SETS, and BRICKWORLD are respected sellers in the community. these are authentic parts. to answer the question as to why one would be available, is it very likely that all the others have sold. there are a number of "special color" bricks that i have purchased in the past that are no longer available on BrickLink at all, mostly old brown since im a Wild West builder... 1x16 old brown bricks, and 1x2x3 old brown inverted slopes (75 degree) come to mind first, and are no longer available on BrickLink. i think the blue visor and red darth vadar helmet are poor examples of these "special colors."for me, i can't get enough of them... i can't tell you how many times i have gone to buy a piece that i need for an MOC, only to find out that it doesn't exists. i think many people would be surprised by how many colors are NOT available for certain pieces. here is a list of pieces that i am personally looking for, but which LEGO never released... - 4x10 tan plates - 1x16 brown bricks - 1x4 brown hinge tile with car roof attachment - 1x2x3 brown inverted slopes (75 degrees) - 1x2 red brick modified log - 1x4 red brick modified log - 8x8 brown radar dish - brown minifig loudhailer there are plenty of others... i could go on for days :-| however, luckily, some of these elements (not all) were (and some still are) available from these "special color" sellers. also, it is worth mentioning that these sellers also have pieces in mass quantities that did not come from parting out sets, or pick-a-bricks, and were acquired in the same manner as the "special color" elements. some of these rare elements are: - 32x32 tan plates - 1x1 green tiles. - red train buffer beams - BM -
that's funny... i like it. but how did you get the apple to attach to the cowl ??? - BM

you have iron paper ??? that sounds dangerous !!!i have ironed many pirate sails. i usually run them underwater to loosen them up, especially if there is a hard fold im looking to remove. then i put a towel over the side of the sail that im ironing... it seems there is some plastic coating over the sails, so the towel keeps the sail from melting or buring. medium/high temperature has worked for me. -------------------------------------------------- as for the set, the thing that jumps out at me most is the use of dark blue for water... im so used to seeing the classic blue for water, that the dark blue seems weird. i don't like it. - BM

:-D that was great.im guessing i have about 18G's... which i thought would be low in comparison to other EB members. but it actually looks like the 10-20 is the most common response. imagine that !!! - BM

ya, that is why "frown" doesn't work for me.it is perfect how "bley" sounds bad though when describing bluish gray :-D - BM
-
"frown" is really bias. the term implies that you don't like the color... so theoretically, i should choose "rown." however, to me "rown" is not the combination of red+brown... "rown" is "brown" without the "b." so really, the combination of red+brown should be something like "rebrown" or "redrown." so because i don't read "rown" as red+brown, i voted "frown." - BM

ok, but until we actually have the discussion, we don't know where we stand, currently. i mean, we could all assume everyone still has the same feelings towards the new colors. however, that might not be the case.for example, if we were to take this "move on :-| " attitude that yoda and TT are suggesting, then we wouldn't be having the same discussion we had four years ago. instead we'd be having a discussion like "boy, did that really make me made at the time, but i like the new colors better now... they have more uses for what im currently building." or something like that. so its interesting to see that a lot of us haven't moved on. i take this thread as merely a gauge of the community
-
here is a thread you might find interesting, hinckely....http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=9039 -------------------------------------------------- i actually like that these discussions get brought up evey now and then, yoda... it gives us a new gauge to see where the community is at, currently. and its not like we see 10 discussions of "bley" and "frown" going per day like we did with all the BS B.S. now that got old really quick... i can understand if you got tired of reading them. im glad that has finally died down :-| - BM

i always liked the limited pallet of colors that LEGO used, and this slight change in grays and browns just has me baffled. it just doesn't seem like my traditional LEGO product to have slight variations of colors... when i learned LEGO did this, apart of me felt like my LEGO company was lost. i do think the older colors had more applications... the new brown is really sickly. lets just hope LEGO doesn't change the color of black... right now the official chart says the black is C:60, M:0, Y:0, K:100. in whatever case, i think black is a staple colors for all themes and styles of building, it would be a really shame to see more than one variation.it is possible i might loose all faith in the company at that point. - BM

this was reported on june 15th... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=9948. and it is a great deal, so please continue discussion there ;-) - BM

i think this is a good stratagy for not becoming emotionally overwhelmed.i think im gonna removed myself some-what from the LEGO community until there is some order/resolution. - BM

wow, a lot of bashing of my favorite hospital, i agree with P on this one. sure it could have been a lot better, for one, minus the baseplate.but the architecture is very reminiscent of US buildings from the 70's. and i happen to like the look of these mid-size office buildings from this era. they are very "mod." the hospital has the same feel, so i think the designer's captured the essence of what they were going for. also, this is an architectural era that LEGO hasn't really represented before, so that is pretty cool in-and-of-itself. however, if you don't like US 70's architecture, i can see why this is very unappealing. externally, the hospital tower is really sleek. the garage and landing pad are just silly, but they are for the kiddies anyway, so just mod those two aspects away. i think if the hospital would have been on a flat baseplate, the garage could have been designed to look something like the 2007 fire station... which has two excellent garages. this hospital is actually my favorite recent city building... but i really don't like too many of the current structure offerings in the theme (the vehicles are great though)... i think MOCing is the way to go for AFOL cities. - BM
