  1. my saloon girl is my personal favorite custom fig, so thanks *sweet* right now, i haven't invested into water slide decals yet. im just using avery label paper for my opaque decals, and printing on transparency sheets (like for an over-head projector) for my windows and doors.---------------------------------------------------- well, thanks hinckley *sweet* that was nice. good call. i really wanted this MOC to be looked at as stand alone MOC. but you can make comparisons if you want... i would actually like that, let me know if i've improved or what, etc... ya, me too :-D ;-) :-D you know, i've heard that before about the alexis sanister face... but i just love it. as i said, lilliana lovelure (as im calling her now) is my personal favorite custom... maybe im strange *wacko*though, i agree with the shudders not having an appropriate place to go when opened. i didn't like that much either, i tried removing them altogether (i had the exact same problem in the train station, and just ended up removing them) but the light gray really brought the color scheme of the set into unity. in the end, i didn't think it was that bad, so i left them in. yes, i think the dagger tipped parasol was quite a unique feature... i personally love it, so thanks for the compliment there, h. yes, the "little world" is something i try for in every MOC/set i work on... it's actually quite important to me. so thanks for recognizing that. cool, i can't wait to bring you my next MOC... redoing the saloon was a necessity in perfecting LEGOREDO, but all-in-all it wasn't as fun as doing something brand new... so im going to stay away from redos for a while and tackle some untouched western themes next ;-) maybe even move out of LEGOREDO and into the wilderness of the deserts !!!-------------------------------------------------- oh, and for everyone who isn't familiar with the chair/table mechanism of GUNSLINGERS SALOON... there is a magnet under the table and a magnet under each chair. so, when the table is turned to face one of the chairs, the magnets repel, and push that chair out of place, knocking over the minifig... it's actually quite fun, and also a fun build. thanks everyone !!! - BM
  2. for the cowboy category i went with uniquebuilder's saloon scene... i like the use of the 1x1 round plate for a drying rag. the head choices are fun, and the photography is well done, too. for the indian category i went with sirnadroj... that bandit is really mean, and i love the peg leg, the whole character is real cartoony, reminds me of a mean yosemite sam from looniy tunes :-D great job guys i liked seeing them all !!! - BM
  3. i would prefer to "sell," but i guess i would get a thrill either way ;-) but seriously, thanks for the feedback guys !!! - BM
  4. EBers... after finishing my last MOC, LEGOREDO STATION #6785, i realized that i had grown quite a bit as a LEGO builder over the nearly two years i've been MOCing as an adult. it seems to me, that it's time to redesign some of my classics, and reinterpret them applying a greater understanding of my own personal style. it has been a year and 4 months since i made my MOCing debut on EB, and here is my reinterpretation of that MOC... GUNSLINGERS SALOON #6758 Beware: Gunslingers, Outlaws, and Vagrants Inside
  5. what about a school girl's bag ??? i have a young lady in my town that could use a bag for her books ??? i haven't seen this bag up-close enough to tell if it's unstylish for a city purse. i was hoping they designed it kinda gender neutral so that they could then go back and mold it in more "girly" colors for city. that idea of a postal workers pouch is great though, UB !!! maybe we will see it in the postal van set ??? - BM
  6. hey guys, i was looking at images of the 2008 indy jones line, and after city 2007, i have found little interest for anything but. consiquently, i found little interest in the indy line... except for the new city accessories potential, like the gray motor bike, but more importantly the neck wear on indy. im thinking that would make for a great female purse, something im sure a lot of city fans have been wanting for soooooo long. what do you think ??? will it work ??? - BM
  7. thanks for posting that comparison, G. 5 bucks is crazy for one minifig... some of the rarer minifigs go for 5 on BL... and those are the rarer ones. common minifigs (like these) go for 1-2 USD. these had better be priced around 2.50, otherwise this line is a waste of their time.im a little surprised everone like the city ones... besides the dog, i don't see why we need to "army build" these very common figs. im very disappointed by the city line. on the other hand, the castle is the only one to feature a new fig, right ??? that is the winner in my opinion. and the MM robot is cute, so i like that one too :-$ - BM
  8. you know, when i look at a MB set, i always think, "how is that a building toy, there is such little to actually build." and when i look at this set, i get the same feeling, when i compare it to 1990's sets of similar price and size. so in this regard i definitely get a MB feel. and at taking a second look at this image, im really not impressed with it.i think i was looking at the individual elements at first, really trying to take in all the new stuff... but i was missing the bigger picture, the building set. and as a building toy this is pretty weak. however, we did come from KK2, so keeping that in mind, this is still a set in the right direction. i bought all of the smaller sets for castle 2007, mearly as a parts-pack. and i see the same thing happening here, and i definitely feel it with the hidiously built dwaves mining set coming out next month (???). it seems to me, LEGO has some great new elements, but as a building toy, the sets are really lacking. its like they are paying their new element designers well, but the set designers are minimum-wage :-D - BM
  9. ben, it really sounds like you had a lot of input into the preliminary designs... so you know, i have to ask... were you (or any ambassadors) compensated for your ideas ??? or was the trip, and bragging rights :-P your payment ;-) thanks for answering all the questions !!! - BM
  10. immediately what jumps out at me is the "good" dragon. i don't like that, personally. overall it's a good set though, i like the orcs (or whatever we are calling the giants) better than i had expected to. what i like most is the iconography of the sails/shields of the new faction. it's really cartoony, and the style really reminds me of one of my favorite comic book artists, skottie young. i love to see LEGO lines go cartoony (not anime, though). - BM
  11. acutally, that isn't my BL folder, but i had remember seeing it and decided to use it as reference... i also notice that in hinckley's signature he has a disformed cypress.in any case, i only have 4 cypress trees (all bought in new condition), but none are prefectly straight >:-( - BM
  12. that's actually a great example... again, i think "classic" should be replaced by "staple." and that describes bionicle perfectly... thanks chuck !!!- BM
  13. ya, pitchforks are expensive, but at least you don't have to worry about spending 12-15 dollars on one that might ship and arrive crooked. i always get the most uneasy feeling when i consider buying a cypress tree from BL :'-( -------------------------------------------------- as for the metrolink and new location, ben. i'll definitely keep posted to that site you linked, for any news that might bring me closer to coming. i'd love to meet some AFOL in-person, especially ones in my area !!! in the mean time, i'll see if i can arrange coming down soon. - BM
  14. i just wanted to make it clear that i wasn't challenging SW as a classic in my post a few above this one... i was merely saying that, for example, WW (and many other old themes) cannot be considered a classic with the same criteria that SW is being judged on. thus, i do think the word classic is tricky, and i don't think LEGO should use it in the context that it is, as it is misleading. again, i think "staple theme" is more fitting for what they are trying to describe. - BM
  15. hey ben, i'll check out the gateway LUG, thanks for pointing that out... i hadn't known one existed in this area. now, too bad you don't meet closer to the gateway arch... south county is quite far for someone living downtown, who's main transportation is their feet ;-) from this, i gather that the sets were composed by many builders and their ideas. interesting. before i had always imagined a small close knit team of 4-5 people working on an entire theme. or at least 4-5 people working in each stage... theme conceptualization, new element design, set design, etc. with maybe a general art director overseeing the all the stages.can you say if all LEGO sets are composed this way ??? it seems to me this opens up the opportunity for a loss of cohesiveness within the theme. i'd almost rather prefer that an entire theme envision and executed by one artist. i guess this opinion comes from me being an artist, and not a marketer :-D - BrickMiner
  16. wow that was a fun read !!! i especially like this line... this is one of many nessesary fundamentals LEGO should follow.its too bad you couldn't get the cypress trees back into production :-D thanks for trying !!! BTW, Saint Louis... Missouri ??? that's where i live *sweet* - BM
  17. i had given a response in a wild west thread over in the history forum, that i would like to share in this thread... original thread: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...ndpost&p=196956 - BM
  18. yes, i guess age would have something to do with it... this makes me wonder if any other generations experienced the feeling when they discovered their "dream piece" *wub* that's a fun thought.- BM
  19. hmmm... im not sure yoda.i do know this, if we are looking at AR as a replacement or follow-up to the divers theme, then we are destine to be let down. because a substitute theme will never measure up to what the original was. for example, for awhile i was buying up cheaper adventurers sets, as a replacement to fulfill my want for (the rarer) MISB wild west sets. and while i like the adventurers, they could never measure up to what i was really pining for. and what would be wrong with MM underwater, the concept sounds fine to me... with a good execution almost any idea can be good ;-) :-P -------------------------------------------------- thanks for sharing the article, gylman... man, those are things we as fans wouldn't normally consider, looking in from the outside. this is enlightening information... and in a way proves that the traditional grays and browns were superior colors to their substitutes (the debate is over :-D ). by the sound of the article, they were first picks, but just weren't financial justifiable choices. - BM
  20. that
  21. KD, i am envisioning a high-concept theme... this thread is where we can discuss the different interpretations of a industry based city sub-theme... this type of thread is much different than a "name new set ideas thread", because it is rooted in theme conceptualization, rather than set conceptualization. for example, i also started a thread about skyscrapers... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...wtopic=6701&hl= i tend to start thread in areas which i would like extra discussion on the topic, so far these two areas of city building have really taken my interest... commerical tower buildings and industry. so far though, it appears there is quite a bit more interest in commercial towers though :-( - BM
  22. in regard to the LEGO report concerning their "classic" lines.i personally think LEGO should replace the word "classic" with "standard" or "staple" in this report. i think the word classic is giving us the wrong impression. for example, LEGO said the three lines they were happy with were city and technic (which they defined as classic) and SW (which they defined as a new classic). to me, it seems the definition of classic is becoming blurred, because it doesn't seem fitting to classify the WW and SW lines in a similar "classic-ness." first i think LEGO should define what they mean by "classic" so we don't formulate misplaced ideas. for example, does classic refer to a traditional line that has always brought the company and its patrons success (this seems to be the implied meaning, sense SW is now considered a new classic by the company.) however, if this is the definition, then WW definitely doesn't fit into the classic term. because in fact, the theme only lasted two years, it definitely wasn't a LEGO tradition. this is the reason i say that when reading the word classic in the report, we should be mindful of the meaning... what i think LEGO is trying to say is that their "staple lines" are what they are happy with. "staple" just doesn't sound as impressive as "classic" in business reports. ------------------------------------------------ in regard to my MOC... your very funny KD. that is very flattering :-D but you know, you can always predict when my next MOC is coming because its 4 months since the last one, and always around the first of the month. i think this week i'll publish it :-P - BM
  23. dang |-/ do you remember any of the details of the postal worker ??? thanks for the info, much appriciated !!! BM
  24. that's strange, that we had similar experiences... i wonder if that set was the first to feature that element ???i know it was the first time i saw it. - BM
