  1. Great build with a lot of interesting angles!
  2. Woohoo! Congratulations also to the 1st and 3rd place, thanks to all the participants and voters and special thanks for holding this contest!
  3. This is my entry for the "Local Landmarks" contest! My model shows a modern building complex that is only a few kilometres away from me in the northeastern part of the city of Munich. It's the "HVB Tower Munich", an administrative bank building (of the HypoVereinsbank). It was completed in 1981 and is still in use, now under monumental protection. With 113m it's one of the highest buildings in Munich (which is not known for skyscrapers :-) ). Even as a kid I was fascinated by this building. Parts of it were build upside down because the floors are hanging down from the supporting columns! Around the central tower there are several lower buldings that belong to the complex. Most of the roofs are planted and there is also a lot of green around the site. The challenge when building this in LEGO was to depict all the different angles, the intricate and nested bulding structures and the planted and glass roofs. I chose the subdued sand green for grass and low vegetation and bright lime for trees and bushes to make for an interesting color combination. You can find some more pictures and information about the real building here: http://www.hvb-tower...x.php?id=25&L=1 On Google there is a 3D model: https://www.google.d...65!4d11.6174009 Thanks for holding this competition and good luck to all participants! Bye, Thilo (t-brick)
  4. Great idea for a contest! I'll post my entry soon. I hope it's ok to use a printed label tile since you used one for your example, too?
  5. I have the same screenshot problem (Mac OS X 10.9.2 on an iMac). Since the update it doesn't work anymore, just crashes :-(
  6. I'm not really convinced of the new site design... A lot of space is used up on the front page for projects in review - although nothing can be done about them anyway. Then there is a very small selection of staff picks and a not much bigger selection of successful projects. No obvious possibility to go through all the projects like it was with the old "more..." button. Yes, you can "discover" - but it seems a bit hidden and a lot of space is wasted in the list view so you don't see a lot of projects without much clicking and scrolling. It would be great to have a random project list on the frontside or a big mosaic with lots of small pictures which would give you a quick overview! I fear that lots of good projects won't be found with a site design like it is now.
  7. Wow! That's great! Thank you all for your votes! It was a really good competition with lots of cool entries. Thanks for hosting it. Congratulations to the other winners, too!
  8. The one year limit is tough if you don't have a really strong fan base supporting an idea (which seems easier with license products so probably we'll see even more of these). Hope my projects (Portal and Neuschwanstein) don't get lost now that they already collected 1000+ voices...
  9. My dream home is the Lake House. The architecture is modern style using lots of glass and wood to create a comfortable living atmosphere. The lake front features rooms open to the sun and with great views. Additionally there is a deck right on the lake shore with a boat bridge. The street front windows are a bit smaller to give some privacy but there is a generous entrance area. The straight lines of the architecture are loosened by different angles, edges and balconies. The model features full interior design with rooms and furniture on three levels. The upper level contains the master bedroom and a guest room, additionally two bathrooms, several terraces and a big hallway with plants. The main level shows among other things a big living room and cooking area as well as a study, including a black piano. In the basement there is place for cars, another guest room, a living room with access to the lake terrace and a big entrance area. I had a lot of fun building this and hope you like it, too! To see how it's build or to build it yourself you can have a look at the LXF file. Have fun!
  10. This looks like a really nice and detailed set. I was a bit sceptical at first but this should be good...!
  11. It IS on CUUSOO! I'm glad for any support there (Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria).
  12. Thank you! It's about 70cm long and 40cm high. Thank you! It's not that big (about 70cm long) and has about as many parts as the Tower Bridge model, so I hope it could be a little bit cheaper!
  13. This is my newest LEGO project, a model of castle Neuschwanstein. I wanted to build this for some time because it is a beautiful and interesting building and I don't live too far from it. The original castle was build by the famous "Swan King" or "Fairy Tale King" Ludwig II of Bavaria. Today it is one of the most visited castles with more than 1.3 million visitors annually. It started as an LDD design that you can see in the first image. I choose the scale so that it was possible to put in (nearly) all of the windows in some reasonable form. If the windows aren't right it just doesn't look right... Difficult parts were the towers and the angled back part of the main building! I also included a little model of the king's golden carriage drawn by four white horses, approaching the gate. Of course then I had to build the real model, too. And here it is! It's been some work but I'm really happy with the result. Last but not least a cleaned up "promo shot" :-) This is also a project (#1128) on LEGO CUUSOO so if you really like it you can find it there: Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria
  14. Great model, very detailed and realistic! Only point that bothers me a bit are the transparent blue dishes at the engines that look a bit "disconnected" to the engines. Did you try attaching them the other way round directly to the turbine pieces using a half pin and a 1x1 round plate, omitting the 4x4 dish? Might look more integrated then. Otherwise especially the rear engine section looks perfect!
  15. Looks very good and even the bridge opens. Nice!
  16. Looks great! Only one question: Is the upper part of the glass roof connected somehow? :-)
  17. Great shaping of the face and the hairs! Nice!
  18. Looks very good. I especially like the little "lightning" bend in the red line, done without stickers.
  19. Nice and sleek design!
  20. Great review of a really nice looking set! Thank you!
  21. Yes, my futuristic city (http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=377978). It was simply too big to keep around...
  22. It sounds likely that the "Portals" review is prolonged because they like the project but wanted to produce the BTTF car first. Maybe LEGO also plays for time because they want to see how the other LEGO Cuusoo Portal projects progress...
  23. Somehow the UN headquarters model looks nicer than the original. I like it! It would be even cooler if they added a "knotted gun" piece...!
  24. Very nice design! You managed to fit a lot of details in this model without making it look cluttered.
