[WIP] Cybertruck
aminnich replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you for all the positive comments!! I did some more work on the build. I am not crazy about how narrow the body is, but it might just be comparing it to the tires. Let me know what you think -
Hey guys, Long time no talk! I hope everyone is doing well! Happy New Year to everyone! I had checked the Technic forum like the day after my holiday break started and saw that Jim had just posted the new contest, I immediately started thinking about what to do. My initial idea was to take the cybertruck, beef it up and make it a mad max vehicle, so that is what I am working on. I have 2 Sbricks, so that means I get roughly 8 functions; here is how I am going to break it down: 1. drive 2. steering 3. shifting 4. diff lock 5. diff lock 6. winch 7. winch 8. extra My main goal of this contest is function over form because I think that is what a mad max vehicle is. Here are some pictures to show you some progress of the build so far... As you can see I have the chassis pretty much done at this point. It is powered by 4 L motors and uses Sariel's sequential 4 speed transmission. It has independent suspension on all four corners. Both axles lock independently using pneumatics. In the last picture, you can see both of the winches and the front light bar style headlight. The 4 functions plugged into that Sbrick are; steering, shifting and both winches. The next steps in this build are going to be working on the bodywork and figuring out how to control 2 pnuematic switches with one motor to free up another Sbrick slot for additional Mad Max-y type of stuff. I hope you like it! Please leave any comments of concerns about the build, I would love to hear from you! Thanks!

What is it, the new iOS 13 that you can use a controller to play mobile games on your phone, I wonder if that could be implemented into the app for the PowerUp stuff
-
I have not been on here in quite some time, life has been busy. Although, I have been watching this set. It looks good but the biggest thing that turns me away from it is the new Power-up system instead of the Power Functions. I have a collection of PF stuff and to now have to buy something new and not compatible with the old is not cool in my opinion. Do we know a price? B-model? From discussion, what do you guys think is the biggest "con" of this set? EDIT: $450?!?!?!?! I thought 42030 was expensive when it first came out, but $250 seems cheap now

Looking at your pictures, I can see why your pins were failing. You had all this track, but not much structure supporting it. Looks like on lift of the roller coaster, the center beam had arms coming out that supported the lift and the initial drop. Instead, you could have had more legs to transfer the load to the ground, instead of through the arms and to one leg. For example, take a look at this model roller coaster. It not only has a lot of structure to it, but also a lot of legs to hold up the track. You have me interested in building a roller coaster now, I was going to build one for the amusement park contest not too long ago, but with school and work I had no time. Also from looking at your pictures, I may have to look for more LEGO Technic lots for sale. A coaster needs lots of beams and pins.

If it is still together, having a compiled list of issues would be nice to help come up with solutions

That is super cool!!! I wish you would have come here asking questions now how to fix parts before quitting the project

Either way, starting something within the next month would be a good idea. The kiddos are wrapping up school for the year and the adults need a reason to play -

I like the idea of a collab chassis, then give the instructions for it to everyone and have the contest be to add a body on it. Similar to 41999. Like Doug, if the contest is car related, I will sit back and watch :) -

For example, back in middle school (long time ago) we had to raise a fly 3 feet, but it needed to have like 10 mechanisms to complete the task. My favorite school project by far! -

Ok, I see what you are saying. I was thinking of an overall common end goal task, and everyone needs to come up with their way of completing the task. You could get it extremely easy or super complex. But I feel like a part limit would be required so you do not have that one person that using 6000 parts to make the most badarse setup and wins all the points. Just food for thought -

I've said it before and ill say it again; Rube Goldberg machine -
not only is the model great, but this post is as well. Lots of pictures of everything we would want to see and a short description of everything. Very well done!

The more I looked into Lego Technic aircrafts, I am blown away by the complexity of some of the builds. Definitely going out in the wilderness with this build.

I have never built an aircraft before, but I guess I can give it a shot. Good to see a contest during winter break for the college students, thanks Jim and Milan! As for what I am going to build, I have no idea. But I am going to go old school technic, try to keep the number of panels low and be able to see the functions of the plane. It will be the first set I build without PowerFunctions since PowerFunctions is the thing Good luck to all the contestants!!

Peterbilt 379 (chassis)
aminnich replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
First, thanks for the comment. I think fitting the true inline 6 would be just calling for trouble, that is why I went with a smaller design. Second, I am basing the build off of a truck company near my house. They have Peterbilt red chassis trucks with a white cab. Every time I drive by one of them, I think dang that is a gorgeous truck. -
Hey guys, I have had a bare-bones chassis sitting on my WIP shelf and figured I would come back to it for the Thanksgiving break. The plan is to make a Peterbilt 379 daycab long chassis truck fully remote control. A few details about the build: closest to 1:18 scale rear axles fully suspended RC 5th wheel working CAT engine Here are some WIP pics, criticism is very much welcomed I hope you enjoy.

With all the crazy contests in the past, I don't want to start building a flying kite and the contest is for a flying bicycle ?
