  1. after building more today, I do not think efferman's axle will work out as nicely as I thought it would. I believe his axle is meant for a European truck when the chassis does not extend much past the axle.
  2. I am doing the exact opposite, I do not like what I see about the new Power Up stuff (the connection, the odd motor size/shape) I will be investing in PF stuff and Sbricks :)
  3. @Saberwing40k Thanks, but I decided to go with Efferman's axle design from the first post, but without the driven aspect.
  4. At first I was like that's just 42053, this guy is pulling our leg, but then I saw it. I get having the large LAs and motors instead of the pneumatics results in much smoother operation. I am curious to see how well the mechanism to change buckets works. Nice job on this one!!
  5. the geometry of the arm looks good, looking forward to progress. Nice job so far!
  6. All this about the chiron and nothing about the crane
  7. 42030 is the ultimate RC set. It gives you a wide variety of parts with a good selection of RC motors. Me personally, I do not think there is one perfect set, they all have a lot to offer. 42030 or 42043 would be my recommendations, but other members may have others for you.
  8. Are you looking to get into anything specific? Power Functions, Pneumatics?
  9. I had an idea today, at first I thought maybe contest idea, but now that I think about it now, probably not. What about an "in my garage" build. Basically pick something from my garage and built it. No matter the size, complexity, type of machine or object. For explain, my garage has a multitude of things, pickup truck, riding mower, push mower, front end loader, etc etc. I think if you are the type of person that has trouble coming up with an idea, look around your garage or basement, maybe even your room. The possibilities are endless.
  10. So I downloaded the LXF file from the second page, here is a size comparison with what I have about 2 studs too wide, BUT I think I could move the diff out of the axle and do the gearing work with the diff just outside the axle, what do you think of this?
  11. never thought of that, I am so used to just having the differential in the middle of the axle like we see on the sets from LEGO. I am going to have to figure something out. First to get the 2 axles to have a diff then combine into one central axle... we shall see
  12. That's is kinda what I thought. I feel like I have 2 options: different suspension option OR independent suspension without being driven. I think I will just go with the non-driven axle, should make things easy anyway. I am mainly going with independent suspension so that the axle is "hard" attached to the chassis instead of kinda floating there. Thanks for all the input, I appreciate it!
  13. I do not think I need to tell you that this is completely different
  14. can someone with the instruction book let us know how many non-technic parts there are? I am curious if the 900 more pieces compared to the Porsche is non-technic. Thanks
  15. honestly, I am not sure. I always measured wheel to wheel, I'm sure others measure hub to hub EDIT: looking at the LXF file of the first one you suggested, I built that exact axle (from this LDD) and the steering radius was no good. Having the shock in between the axle housing and the steering gear rack does not give much room for steering movement.
  16. Thanks, but I tried something just like it and it turned out too wide. I am finding that it is hardest to get the driving aspect of an axle 17L. Here is an image of your axle next to the finished rear axle of my build. Pretty significant difference.
  17. So I have a request. On my latest build, I stopped at the front axle because I just got stuck and could not figure out a compact solution. I was trying to make a 17L driven, steerable with independent suspension semi truck style axle, I successfully made a 19L, but I could not get it to 17L with any luck. Does anyone have a suggestion?
  18. @Bublehead I look on craigslist probably twice a week, searching about 20 major cities. If the deal is good enough and the seller is willing, I pay for shipping. I have gotten some pretty good deals from half away across the country.
  19. Take a look at the front and rear fenders, to me it looks like they are bent in a little
  20. I'm not complaining, just having a conversation with you guys about something that I find extremely odd and offputting.
  21. That makes sense, thanks for the explanation. So that means a 90-degree stepper would get you from 1st gear to 3rd and a downshift to 1st. I hope the exhaust sounds good at the price you guys are paying for this set
  22. sorry to bring this topic back... but we need to talk about the newest Chiron leak, it is a perfect example. The exterior of the model is nicely colored... but if the leaked images are official WOW. Here is what I notice: Yellow 3L axle Orange 180 degree connector Orange pin 3L with stop bush Blue pin with pinhole light green 5L beam Blue perpendicular split White 1L pin connector Then some others that aren't quite as jaw-dropping color vomit. I don't get it... Come on TLG
