  1. That is a good point, but here is my question then to you. What if you bought the set used for $200, built it, got tired of it, sold it. How much do you think you could get for a "double used" set? If the deprivation of the new set was $80, would the depreciation of the used set still be $80 or would it be $40?
  2. oh, you are one of those people... Nah I am just kidding, but that is a valid point. If you are going to have the set built and put in a display case, you would want to buy brand new so that you do not have the risk of a part being broken, or god forbid a sticker is not placed perfect Using my example again, in your case spending that extra $80 is probably worth it, and keeping it in a display case also probably does not depreciate the model as fast either.
  3. I completely agree that Lego in general is not currency, but you could say the same thing about cars. An example of what I am talking about; On amazon, I can buy 42055 (BWE) for $279.95 and have it next day shipping to my house brand new in box https://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Technic-Bucket-Excavator-Construction/dp/B01CU9X8AC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505762569&sr=8-1&keywords=42055 OR I can buy from bricklink for $200 used and it be at my house within the next week. https://store.bricklink.com/ahmedumer&itemID=126040446#/shop?o={"invID":"126040446"} So, in this case the depreciation of the set going from at least one (could me multiple) owner to another (me) is $80, not factoring in the difference in shipping and taxes and whatnot. Do you think that $80 is a huge amount of deprecation for a set like this one? EDIT; going off of what Erik said That is exactly my opinion, I tend to buy used technic in bulk for cheaper than the set was brand new. If the set was used, but taken care of, what do I care? I will just be parting it out and using the parts. Using my above example, why would I buy the amazon 42055 for $80 more, when I can just buy from bricklink and be able to spend that $80 on more sets down the road. Just my opinion, what is yours?
  4. I was thinking about this today, not really sure why. I want your opinion. If technic sets get much more expensive after they officially retire, than do they depreciate after you buy them, assuming you open the box and build the set? Kind of like buying car, driving it off the lot depreciates the car by like 10%. What are your thoughts?
  5. Ford, Chevy, Dodge? Im only teasing, those my my vehicles (trucks in particular)
  6. Dropping out, no time for building
  7. Mack's cab over trucks have a different look compared to other companies as well. Where I live, they are typically used for garbage trucks.
  8. If you spent years on a project like they did, you would be very passionate about your work. Plus, it is a bada$$ looking truck! What do you think? will the 2018 Mack truck be modeled after this one?
  9. New Mack truck reveal, watch it LIVE!
  10. UPDATE I wanted to show you what I have so far as a "wacky function" it is not quite an oil slick for the racer behind me, but something else... And a short video to show you what exactly happens.
  11. It would be helpful to know what kind of part inventory you already have.
  12. I understand not using 3D printed parts and I see why using an RC motor and 3rd tires (especially for this contest) are not allowed, but a simple receiver so I can control my vehicle through my phone? I don't understand, but rules are rules and I will follow them.
  13. UPDATE Today I built the first version of the wacky weapon. The idea is for something to be dumped out onto the car behind me, the wacky part is what goes inside BTW, this is the first time I will be using pneumatics on a MOC, I hope all goes well
  14. Very... different haha. For a wacky wheels contest this is a great idea. From your first pictures, i was not sure what the heck is was going to be, but now I definitely see it. Nice job. BTW, before seeing this, I thought Sbricks were allowed too, I do not know why they aren't....
  15. It is easier to do a lot of things for in technic on a larger scale. At least IMO
  16. My wheel is similar to that type of wheel. Where both do not have a tire filled with air, it is basically the tread of a tire with material that is shock absorbant. I don't think you could truly recreate those wheels out of technic
  17. No size limit taken to the extreme? Ya probably What are you referring to? My vehicle or discussion with @Doug72
  18. What kind of color scheme do you guys think would be cool for a long vehicle like this? I think the panels are too plain.
  19. Every part of this is WIP, the color scheme needs lot of help IMO
  20. That was exactly what I did first, I tried multiple ways with no success. Then I looked at the bike wheel sitting next to work area... It works very well and is strong with a "suspension" built into the wheel itself. It has no traction at all, but I have an idea for that. UPDATE: I just kind of started throwing 5x7 frames together, then some panels and the ridiculous engine. I think it might be too big.... What I got PROS cool looking wheel IMO good drive train for the massive wheel CONS Everything else I do not really like the looks of it. Yes, this is the first design. 52V engine should be big enough to move those wheels, right?
  21. I remember talking about different wheel geometries in my calculus class last semester. The professor was explaining that you can make a wheel any shape you want, it just depending one the shape of the surface you are rotating the wheel on. He gave the square wheel example, and just like you said, he explained you need a sinusoidal surface to "drive" on. It would be an interesting research project for sure!!
  22. I did a bit of research on the Panjandrum and it is a very interesting concept. I will not be making it for the contest, but maybe a future build, first LEGO needs to come out with some small rocket engines. These are not the biggest wheels you can make, with the inverted track, you can make it as bug as possible, you just need the right center bracing. When the contest was opened, the first thing I thought of was "build a new wheel", most everyone else are just using LEGO wheels and making wacky vehicles. While this is cool, I feel like making a wheel, like what Doug did, is more of what this contest is suppose to be about. I might be wrong. I have made more progress, but I was unable to get some pictures of it last night. Maybe some more progress tonight.
  23. I am just going to leave this here, more details later... What do you think my plans are?? Hope you like
  24. It really is a toss up, 42043 is a great set, but we do not know what to expect from the MACK truck. If it were me, I would get the 42043. The price will increase soon and we really have no clue what the new truck is going to look like. Go with 42043 in hopes that the MACK truck is aweful haha
  25. Don't the rule say that it should be a separate function? That is, independent from the other functions (drive and steering) I might be wrong, please correct me of that is the case @Milan
