  1. Thank you, I will. I know somebody that likes cocoa with hot milk. And I do like fruit. Was it a long journey, were you harassed by other ships? And have you found a cargo for the homeward journey?
  2. The mead was fuel for the fire inside. Nerwen rarely drank, it usually had little effect on her. But this drink was strong and flowed through her limbs, she stretched like a tiger and... Shook her he'd gently. They were here for work, not play. Previous quests had taught her that drunks rarely appreciated being 'cured' of their hangovers, though she could do it, she left the sailor to sleep and approached the Terra Chimans nearby. She did not know their language and customs, but reasoned that if they were here in Eubric, they would at lest speak common. Greetings travelers. Are you here for business or pleasure?
  3. Nerwen isn't sure if she should be amused or offended by Guts' remark. As a distraction from having to decide whether to punch him or laugh at him, Nerwen wanders around the bar. She slides into a chair opposite the sailor boy but cannot tell if he is asleep or awake...
  4. Nerwen says quietly, just loud enough for Guts to hear, Thank you Guts. But I had meant for one of the other patrons to hear and begin a conversation, as a way of gathering information. Perhaps you might approach one of the groups of patrons?
  5. Nerwen looked around at the patrons. Seeing few other females in the place might have made her uneasy before, but the fire awakened by the shaman training was itching for a fight. Guts and Eric were in their element. But she too had ways to play this game. Speaking just loudly enough to be heard over the conversations she said, Does a lady have to buy her own drinks around here?
  6. Nerwen speaks to Guts and Eric amidst the noise of the bar. Before we approach anyone, what happened to Jolly Roger, Eric? Perhaps he has a score to settle with Reno, perhaps with yourself and Heroica as well? Ah... the diffence between player knowledge and character knowledge.
  7. Politics and family. Nerwen listened thoughtfully to all that was said. Clearly there are factions and groupings that will benefit from Reno's absence. Our interference, even though sanctioned by Lady Boneparte, may be met with resistance. We must be careful. Thank you for your time Captain. May the gods of the seas keep you safe. Nerwen continues toward the wharf for the boat to the mainland, where the Merry Mermaid waits, keeping her eyes and ears open.
  8. Nerwen waits for the answer to Guts' question. If the party is free to return later, she leads the to the Merry Mermaid. If this is their only opportunity to speak to Nemo, the party will speak to him.
  9. Stats good. Thanks! Nerwen nodded at Lady Boneparte's words. Well boys, shall we go in or go straight to bar?
  10. A villain that players will hate? Easy. Have them betray the party or force the party to do something the party really does not want to do. Then have them escape and let the betrayal or feeling of being used fester...
  11. Nerwen sees that Guts has left and that she has indeed been chosen to quest with him again. And the nord as well. The cleric with whom she had been having an enjoyable discussion on theology had rushed off somewhere also. He was evasive that one, seemingly incapable of a straight answer. Nerwen patted Boomingham on the shoulder. I would like to have quested with you and your guardian angel. But it seems your gods have other plans for you. Barty, see that he uses that mulled wine when it would be helpful, rather than simply drinking it for no gain. William, Sorrow, De'kra, I am sure we will talk more later. Thank you for the cookie Mizuki, keep your knives sharp! With that, Nerwen stepped out, intending to collect some belongings before reporting to the island fort.
  12. I feel like I've just been cast as an elven sookie, with King Guts on one hand and Eric northman on the other. Oh well, people did say shaman Nerwen needed to get topless.
  13. Nerwen reflexively steps back from Sorrow upon hearing the horror that was done to him. I cannot imagine someone so... warped and deceived as to create such a scroll, but to use it in the manner you describe is beyond... Nerwen's sentence trails off, finding no words to express her disquiet at Sorrow's circumstance. Hearing the brown robed cleric respond with questions of his own, Nerwen smiled. Then he speaks of the original veterans and she is puzzled. I am sorry, I though you were edan, were human. But if you speak truth, you must be something else. As I said before, men do not live all that long. Indeed, if Sorrow's father is alive as he hopes, he is no longer human. Nerwen pauses to consider him and listen to his melody. Particularly as he digresses and argues with Guts. Odd. You sound human. You certainly speak like a man, certainty, bravado and self-righteousness. In any case, we were discussing the gods. Your god has a name but you do not share it? Are you afraid that I have heard the name or that I have not? But, deferring my questions with questions, you have had some training in sophistry it seems. As to the gods, I know of many definitions. The elvish sage Vronil suggests that a god is any immortal with power to manipulate the world. Since this would include elves, the definition might need refining. Argus of the Menhiri conversely says that to be considered a god, a being must not only exist, be a personality and have power to contemplate and change the world, but also interact with those in the world like ourselves. Other thinkers add the requirements that gods must be 'good' or be able to create from nothing. These seem overly restrictive, for who can know what good is when seen from the encompassing perspective of the immortal? The gods are what my teachers would call a 'primitive concept'. Not meaning one held only by primitive people, but that the concept is in some ways irreducible, cannot be broken down to a list of more basic ideas. Everyone you ask would be able to give at least an attempt at describing what a god is, even avowed a-theists who insist there are no gods. At the very least, any hero here can name a least a few gods and express their boundaries of authority. So, taking Argus' outline, how would you deny those gods who have revealed themselves to elves and mortals?
  14. Tell me Master Munk, does your god have a name by which he is known to men? Does he have a following? Temples? A sigil or sign by which he is known? And what sort of monotheist are you? Are you a supremacist like the Caliphs of Cathago, Is your god simply better than all the others and rules over them? Perhaps a Paternalist like some of the shamans of the north, your god is father over the other gods? A creationist, your god created all other gods? Are you a negationist like our friend Raider Guts here, that the gods are empty, powerless and illusionary? Perhaps an absolutist, your god is the only good god and all other gods are evil powers set against him? You speak like such a one, calling other gods lies and blindness. Have you been associated with Heroica for a long time then? Were you here in the dark time when so many of the heroes fell and heroica was nearly destroyed? Were you here before that? Tell us of that time please, tell us what Heroica used to be like in days gone by. I do not think I have, sorry, no. I apologise for all the questions above, I am an elf, questions of history and philosophy and religion are interesting, and you say much that I do not quite grasp.
  15. I do not believe we have met. My name is Nerwen Calmcacil. I understand your antipathy towards the undead, but I am not certain Sorrow is a just target of your rage. You speak of his being controlled by Mage or Necromancer. I do not think that is the case here. He appears to genuinely possess a will. If you had listened to him speak of his history, you would know that he was human. He was reanimated by one he calls father, who it can be surmised, was human too. Although I have not met every human, I do not know of one who has lived beyond six score years. Especially Necromancers, whose meddling in dark magic ends to shorten their lives, often violently. Sorrow speaks of being more than four hundred, therefore the Necromancer who raised him is long dead. Sorrow too should have returned to the peace of death. But he has not, there is something very strange about him, he is not an undead of the sort that you rail against. Perhaps you would do well to sit for a short while and contemplate the truth of my words. I, further gather from your speaking of a singular god that you do not come from around here. As a friendly warning, be careful about your monotheistic cant, you will find others with pointed words on that subject. I am sorry, perhaps I did not hear you clearly before. Where did you say you were from? That is very learned of you William, but are you quite well? Your voice had an odd cadence to it that made some parts sound like a choir all speaking at once.
  16. Repost to remind people to vote (and so you don't need to hunt backwards to find the catagories!)
  17. My apologies for interrupting. I know the one of whom you speak. He fell in the quest to rescue the Maa'ri orcs. You may want to speak to Byblos the Librarian if you wish to know more about that quest, there are none around now to tell the tale. I do not. But we have had this discussion in Miranda. You are a capable fighter when you choose to be, you are simply often distracted by the coins. We are all different people with different priorities. Perhaps you have misunderstood the situation, Essahgay. Sorrow and I recently quested together, we have a history and I respect his ability with his blade. I have not said anything to Mizuki that I have not already said to Sorrow directly. As for prejudice against the undead, Sorrow and I have also spoken over that topic also. He understands the reasons for my antipathy and accepts that I am withholding judgement at this time due to his unusual nature. As for Erdy's leaves, I think they are in her tea, not her books.
  18. Lifting a cookie and nodding in thanks to her recent quest mate Nerwen says, No. I have not heard of you. That is precisely my point. Should I have heard of you? Have you been heroic for long? As for it being my business, you joined our conversation, sat at the table here, and addressed remarks to my conversation companions. We could have excluded you, but did not. We were couteous and welcoming. As a friendly word, I encouraged you to be the same. Clearly you choose not to be, as is your freedom. If you do wish to be included in conversations, I would recommend you rethink such an attitude. You are, after all, young enough to learn new things. Turning to Mizuki she says with a smile, I see you have visited the training room also. An assassin now. It looks good on you. But mind you do not take after Sorrow and spend more time picking up coins than actually killing the party's enemies!
  19. Sit down please. You are by no means the eldest here. It is not your place to lecture on manners and civilisation and then blithely ignore such strictures yourself. Whatever you were before, Heroica offers all a fresh start. As such, it is those with experience that are respected, more than those simply advanced in age. Whatever entitlement you feel, you will need to earn respect here.
  20. Think Ninjago. But if you'd like to set character background there, or run a quest there and want it to be something different, go ahead. It's not attached to Nerwen's backstory in any way. Edit: cool advanced class upgrade!
  21. Heh, I saw that on the map and thought, cool corruption of theme name. I didn't even remember mentioning it...
  22. A coat? That's an unusual item to go questing for? This coat must of been very special. Was it made out of gold or something? Nerwen suppressed a smile as the ebullient ranger provoked a reaction from the normally tight lipped rogue. Perhaps he means siege weapons. But I can not imagine how you would smuggle those. I assume you were smuggling the weapons you were selling, I do not see you as the tax paying type.
  23. Nerwen sees William as he leans into the conversation at the table. William! I have not seen you since the quest to find Shaun. How have you been? what have you been doing?
  24. Nerwen watched a young elf scream, shout, collapse crying then run out of the hall. She shrugged. What is it about rogues who hear voices? Watching an old man approach Boomingham deferentially brought a faint smile to her lips. She nodded in greeting when introduced, amused again as Lawrence described her as beautiful. Nice to meet you Essahgay. Do you hear voices in your head too?
  25. I've created a unique voice for him then. I was kind of aiming for that ballpark, which I now realise is from hearing forest troll witch doctors from Warcraft 3. I'll work on a shirtless Sharman Nerwen, but I think I'd need to bounce of events in a quest rather than it simply happening in the hall.
