Heroica RPG - Quest#13: The Darkstar
Chromeknight replied to Rumble Strike's topic in The Heroica Archive
OOC: nice mine entrance. Especially how you made the small POOP rock nearly invisible. OOC: changed sig to remove acronym so as not to annoy God OOC: Question for God/rules angels, Can Sarick still cast spells holding the torch? Nerwen realises she had slipped into distraction, thinking about too many things, some of which seemed more like a game than real life. Shrugging, and approving of the forthright way Knifk opened the path, she lead the party into the mine. Nerwen picked up the torch for now. Thinking that before finding foes she could hand it over without bother. Come on gents! -

With the understanding that a just and careful lawman such as yourself will undertake a full investigation. And should it be shown that the thugs struck first and wilfully attacked us, then the money will be returned to us. Nerwen hands Captain Hlin 10 gold. I've covered 10. Knifk and Gorg paid for the medicine. If others cover the remaining 20, it'll be repaid from future loot. Then we can be on our way to the mine. -

Never mind with plan. The game is more or less over. There seem to be only two suspects if Pirelly is scum. And the investigator will investigate one, the SK will kill the other. The game is over this night or the following day even if Carrots is unproven as the doctor. -

We maintain that we were attacked, and in order to teach the thugs a lesson we removed their purses. There was 30 gold inside, and how out of work miners amassed such an amount is suspicious. If the sticking point is that this is the last of their money we will happily turn over the coins to you to be held in evidence pending an investigation into how they got it. As you would know, we did not kill the thugs or leave them incapacitated, so there can be no question of charges of assault. Especially as it would be our word against theirs as to who struck the first blow. Will handing the money to you satisfy the processes of justice? -

That's not a helpful response. Happily you'll be back later to explain yourself. And it better be good. It's obvious you say. I must be in league with Pirelly you say. At this stage I'm prepared to accept your claim, you certainly can produce an detailed list of actions. As for proof. there is a method for proving you. But since you suspect I'm scum, you'll likely not want to hear it. In any case unvote:Sir Carrots(scubacarrot) -

Nerwen steps forward to address the Captain. Clearly you, Captain Horrkkba are dashing and dynamic. I cannot have been easy finding such a mismatched and unusual party such as ours within the village. It seems to me that you are cut from a different kind of cloth, the stuff heroes are made of. I imagine that you dream of grand adventures and only your commendable loyalty to your job prevents you from seeking out those opportunities. Fortunately for you, adventure has found you, Captain. The closure of the mine would have been a small setback for you no doubt. And your men, sturdy and well-trained as they are, I'm sure due to your excellent instruction, are not suited for venturing into such an accursed place. However, you have before you heroes of Heroica, who are honourable and upright and who recognise those same qualities in others. For this reason we offer you the right hand of friendship and, if your men are willing to part with you, the invitation to join us in clearing the mine of it's cursed denizens, releasing it to profitable use to benefit the town once more. With such a skillful companion we certainly cannot fail in this task. What say you Captain? Do you heed the call of adventure? When finished Nerwen heals Sarick at the cost of one ether. -

OOC: no worries! I appreciate the joke now I know what it means. There are many strange things in the world, Elves who speak orcish, heroic mages with magic in a bottle and strange creatures that affect only those who love women... No, these younglings have been no trouble. And thank you for the warning, I might seem kind, but my staff is a useful companion and I know well how to use it. We will head to the mine shortly, is there anything you think we might need? Torches? Rope? -

Obviously I was unclear enough for Skipper and have confusicated him. First sentence restated for clarity. I think that the scum have lived so long because of luck not skill. That and they took out my friend Cecily and Zam the investigator. As for the second sentence, Like all good townies I have been using the nights to go over the voting patterns and try to predict who the scum will target. This then gives some information about how they're thinking. And how they're thinking will lead to who they are. On more than one occasion I have been surprised in the morning by their choice of target. I've not been good at predicting. -

Thank you for the compliment (I think!) But I'd like to say hopefully my posts would be thoughtful and well formed regardless of what role I play. I do hope that it is not that I am suspicious that makes my posts seem that way. As for scum living so long, I think it's more luck than skill, and being able to choose good victims. I truely believe that if they hadn't killed Cecily she and I would have cracked it today (with help from others of course). As well as having a poor voting record I know I've not been good at picking who the scum will target at night. Wiat, I haven't voted yet! Better fix that. Vote: Sir Carrots (Scubacarrot) Bandwagons help scum! -

Alright everyone, I must tell you something, Voltana is claiming to be the cop, it's not proved. I was in touch with Zam before his demise and Sir Carrots. I am leaning towards Carrots for my vote. It is time to end this, even if the (other) scum kills me, you will know who they are. I have been in touch with Voltana (and Zam) since day 2, and have known that he(Zakura) was the Cop. To those who suspect me: If I were scum, wouldn't he have been killed that night? For evidence Check the date.I was also in contact with Carrots from day 1. At the time I believed the "I'm town, I'm being picked on by the crazy lady!" routine. And so it seems did Voltana and Zam.Voltana seems exceedingly trusting in a way that is now harming town's chances of winning this.By refusing to accede to the possiblilty Carrots is scum they create a list that does not cover all the possibilities. I will say more in a few hours after I am able to return to court.I must go attent Master Hale's funeral. -

See, I can get leaving your own name off the list. That makes sense. (Understand though it still leaves a hole in your reasoning.) There are eight of us left, Wully is the SK, Dragus is investigated town and Yulie claims town one-shot vig. That leaves five with two scum. Three town (of various amounts of hardworkingness and loyalty) and two scum. But if you(Voltana) have information on Carrots that you're not sharing that's not cricket. Yes, he claimed to be vanilla town on day 1. Last I heard though he'd not been investigated or proved. Unless, as I said above, you have more information that you need to share. Has he been lying to everyone, and he's not really vanilla town? Or has he been lying to you(Voltana) saying that he's not vanilla town? //Begin Predicted whine/ But you're picking on Carrots!! OMG you scum!!! This proves Christos is scum and must be voted out immediately!!!! //End Predicted whine/ There you go, I've said it, you don't need to bother. Probably won't stop you though. Just be careful you're not devolving into paranoia and hysteria, it's not a good look. -

Nerwen, who is fluent in orcish, and has excellent hearing, listens to the conversation between the barkeep and heroes from across the room. The mention of a mage and a blue companion piques her interest and she moves across to ask in quiet tones. Friend Barkeep, I am friend to orcs here. Can you please tell more about Mage and companion? How would we recognise them? How long ago were they here and have they been seen since? -

Fair enough. the amount of work I've done behind the scenes was going to draw attention at some point. And my voting record is... woeful. Which, with a moments thought actually clears me rather than implicates me. If I was a smart scum I would have sent at least one of my votes Franklin's way when either Wife of Darth or Dragus did. Or voted for one of the other two scum. I expect the vote today will vindicate the way I've played though. -

Now at the pointy end of the game. There are less and less people to suspect. A five of the six people who were voted for yesterday are still alive. Some of us answered our accusers. Some didn't. Yulie. Yesterday you wanted to know who was speaking to me? Why? Was it because you want to make sure people are sharing information and I've been central to that? Is it because you think I'm scum and you're trying to work out who is sharing with me? Or is it because you're scum and want to work out how big the town core is? -

Have I made mistakes in this game? sure. Did I suspect Franklin? not really. didn't trust him fully either. That's why I suggested to the investigator that he be investigated. Now it turns out he wasn't just scum but the Godfather. So someone's going to trot out the whole "it was a complicated plan" thing. Without proof.. I've also been speaking to a lot of people via PM. that's what I've been doing to help town. That and provoking discussion in the thread. Carrots conveniently forgets that I approached him. I suggested he speak to cecily. Surely if I was scum I'd fracture relationships since I'd want to keep track of who was saying what to whom. Aside from you, I haven't been on any list of possible scum. No one else has suspected me. Either I'm a really good scum or I'm simply a townie working hard on the game. That post? Way to bring up a list of grievances. Since my conscience was clear, I wasn't leaping to defend myself from vague suspicion. My reply was measured. Sure I didn't say anything to you. I didn't think I really need to. How am I supposed to defend myself here? You're calling me out and have to admit that you can't find anything implicating. Let's see if you've convinced anyone else. -
I'm around. But I don't want to just decide stuff for the party though. I think it's coming up on the holiday weekend in the states, so people are going to be a bit more sporadic in posting. I'm having fun tweaking Sorrow too. And trying to walk the line between confidence and arrogance. Looking forward to the weird and spooky mine!

Vote: Skip Pudding (Skipper) Since the recap of days seems to be the way to go Day 1. Shows up late. Leads a vote on Flanagan late in the vote after Flanagan reveals he has information. When the vote falters in the face of the Darth bandwagon who shows up vapourised? Flanagan. Then he changes to Wife of Darth. "Waah! its a frame job. Why would I be so blantant!" It is a frame job? or is it meant to look like a frame job so that no one would suspect him? Day 2. First statement "Oh shit. So many dead, even our now confirmed roleblocker." Forgive me, but as far as I know, Darth was confirmed town, his role claim was not proved. Unless you have secret scummy information we don't know about? Then there's Interesting. With that in mind I need to go back and read Day One (again). Since if we lynch Wully and he turns out town then we know Voltana is scum (thus he is unlikely to lie on such a verifiable claim), I'm inclined to act on this tonight. "Not town" means Witchbreed right, Voltana? It's a little thing, but could you clarify? I'd hate to think there's another faction. Why would the idea of 'another faction' cross your mind unless you thought you already knew all the scum? Then follows some discussion with Voltana, which could be read as an encouragement to get here to divulge her source, exposing the cop. Shows up to vote, then... oh "I need more time" Seeing a move on Gilly, to save Wully does Skip vote either? no he goes for Zam Kuric. Why? Because he had penalty votes on day one and his scum buddies saved him from the lynch... Now he can claim "I didn't vote for the wully plan" and can claim "I didn't lynch the innocent Gilly" Sigh. Day three. I get a PM message from him saying it was good to keep Wully. Way to jump on after it's rolling... Then in PM he's still banging on about Zam. What have you got against the guy, Skip? I spin him some tosh about Carrots (who is also in with Zam and Voltana) and he's "I agree with you on Sir Carrots" Sure you do, any attention directed somewhere else is good. When is his first post? after voting has opened. what does he say? oh "I need more time" No wonder he was on Cecily's list. The list that got her killed. And now a requote of Dragus' posts. He can't point to anything suspicious other than not contributing. And he's driven to accuse by the echoing silence of town waiting for the scum to show their hand. Well, there it is... -

Christos moved like a ghost through the court. Avoiding the guards, since he had memorized their routine. Down the stairs to the side and along the passages he went. The smell ahead grew stronger. He knew that he was close to his goal. The hunger that was driving him sharpened. This task must be completed if he was to survive, it would be completed! He had long planned this, there could be no-one to see him on this daring raid. No-one to point the finger of blame at him. He would thumb his nose at the silly little boy-king and his bitchy mother. Reaching the door, he paused, listening intently. Faint sounds from the other side, but nothing untoward reached him. Slowly he lifted the latch and opened the door. His grin wide in anticipation, drool gathering at the corner of his lips. With the solid door pushed back enough, he slipped into the room. There she was, the crown of his steaming fantasies. Pulling out his knife he tiptoes quietly toward his prey. The need for stealth is exaggerated. There is no-one else around. Furtively glancing around one last time he raises the blade over the pale flesh. A quick stroke down and he slices into the delectable breast. Beast that he his he lifts the slice to his gaping maw, eager to feast. As he fills his mouth he cuts another chunk of warm meat. Precisely then, as he is consummating his filthy criminal deed, the door slams back. A figure, outlined against the dark hallway beyond lifts a trembling figure. She screeches in anger and betrayal.... WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THE KING'S TURKEY?!?! Happy thanksgiving to all (even those who don't worship the turkey-god!) Voting has opened Yulie. You are allowed to nail your colours to the mast. But if you've got a theory you'll have to share it with someone so they have a reason to vote for the person you suspect. What you've posted so far isn't terribly helpful. By first in line I guess you mean are top of the list of scum suspects. That is indeed a good question. Perhaps he's caught Gilly's disease (incoherent mumblings about a net being broken) -

And are you enjoying the view? Nerwen's smile is amused and tolerant. The ruffians reaction and language is unsurprising, from humans, and especially ones who frequent a poor taven. Hear that Sorrow? They like you too. Even though you don't smile. Don't bother boys, she's more sour than a sitronu fruit. See? no smile for you... By the look of you, you're out of work miners. We're going there next. Is one of you boys brave enough to show us around the mine? Or are you all talk and no trousers?
