  1. Sargassan? I have never heard of such before. Perhaps they are from deeper seas than I have traveled. And a Barbarian? speaking to Guts, Does it not seem to you that nearly everyone here is a rogue or barbarian? With the exception of our Naga friend. Nerwen's ears tingle for no reason she can determine. I can smell the smell you mean, but I do not think I find it as objectionable as you. Another barbarian! And an advertisement for the stereotype Greetings Othar Alf. I am Nerwen Calmcacil, a cleric from the borders of Duplova. You were among the heroes that were at the school? That is indeed an interesting sword, imbued with the power of light is it not? You had a cleric with you, Ratibor, was it? I have not seen them in the hall, I would be interested to meet them. And also the mighty Nur you mentioned. Greetings again Erdathcath.
  2. Memory? No, Elves are just as prone to distraction as humans. You saw the new hero. What kind of being is he do you think? Two and a half centuries and I have not seen his like. Sarick? He looks like he might hail from your world. Any ideas?
  3. You were playing a dangerous game with the barbarian, Guts. As fpr cards, I heard a ranger named Docken had some but I have... Nerwen paused as a a new hero entered the hall. A bermused smile touches the corners of Nerwen's lips. ...sorry... what was I saying?
  4. The number of line you're allowed in your signature is because of the number of posts you've made. The actual formatting of your signature doesn't matter much. What you've got is fine (Though you don't need to include ether as a barbarian and you also start with a potion and you need to include (WP:3) after your trident). All you need to add now is a photo. If you're having trouble with that, PM me and I'll give you a hand.
  5. Fair enough. Edited information out.
  6. This post edited to preserve suspense.
  7. In terms of active players, there are more rogues about. At least half the knights have only posted to sign up but not since. The game needs more clerics!
  8. I understand. Because it was off the main plotline (as admitted by CJP) and was an easy battle, it does give the impression of a 'freebie'. I wonder if there is a way to construct a horde battle, a mass of weak enemies that won't simply be toppled by a bomb/burst/frenzy...
  9. I crunched some numbers to do a little comparison. ((Offered in a spirit of helpfulness and not intended to cause upset or give ammunition to complaint.)) So far the Sacred Sands quest has run 44 days (compare 21 days for #1 and #2 and 22 for #3) #8 players have earned up to 6 levels (compare 5 for #1 and #3, 6 for #3) Because of buying canteens, they've actually gone backwards in Gold by 103g Moreover, they also have sold or used another 35 g of equipment. At the end of quest they'll receive 500g, taking them to +397 (compare #1: 600g, #2: 1322g and #3: 900g) In loot they've gathered 565g worth (Compare #1: 370g worth*, #2: 150g and #3: 800g**) *not counting value of Dread hat #1 ** not counting value of Lullaby wand and Sandman's parasol #2 At the end of the quest they'll receive one weapon upgrade each, worth 10g (another 50g total). Giving a quest total of 1012g (so far) or 169g per level (Compare #1: 194g/lvl #2: 262g/lvl and #3: 340g/lvl) Of course, all these numbers will change as the quest progresses, but it's unlikely to change overmuch in the week and half the quest has remaining. As you point out, the quests are about much more than rewards, rather, about interaction and character roleplay. But the perception that #8 are getting fabulously wealthy isn't borne out by the numbers. And the presence of "candy" gems (only 6 so far) isn't especially unfair either, though it may cause game balance issues later.
  10. Seeing the hooded rogue draw closer, Nerwen shifted to include him in the conversation. Yes... she laughed, It seems like every second hero here is a rogue, sometimes even occasionally a rouge, too. I count four rogues recently returned from questing. Not to mention the handful around who have not been on a quest yet. Perhaps someday there will be a rogues only quest! The thought of a band of rogues trying to backstab each other brings another smile to her face. I am not surprised that the shrine of Mercutio is one of the largest in the city. All those rogues praying for help to pick locks and lift purses. Did you ever consider acquiring a shield and becoming a Knight? or a bow and becoming a ranger? Although it does seem the fashion for rangers to wear green. I wonder why that is? She paused for a moment, pondering Perhaps to fill the time we could practice on the target board for throwing items over there. Or if you can find a deck of cards, I believe the ranger named Docken has a deck, we could while away the time playing Alouette. That is, if you're not afraid of losing... A wicked glint is seen in Nerwen's eyes as she lays the challenge down.
  11. I wasn't asking a direct question as such, more simply musing on the topic and pointing out another element of complexity if race were factored in at a more general level. It seems the consensus I'm reading here is that race-based effects are best left to the QuestMaster's discretion. And I'm more than happy with that as a response. One of the exciting things about watching Heroica develop as a game is seeing the system get stress-tested in new and interesting ways. Colossi with 250 Health, sure. Horde of 25 zombies and skeletons? No worries. Effects on battle order, row of battle and managing to 'seal' a cleric (twice!). All these things make for a deep and interesting game, despite the simplicity of the underlying rules. I'm looking forward to getting in and questing!
  12. A further complication is the elemental gems with their weaknesses and strengths. In a future collectible figs series, we're going to see Minotaurs, presumably one may even end up as a player character. But Minotaurs are beasts (according to rules on page 1) so are vulnerable to Ice but not immune to any element. Equally a Naga could be considered an aquatic creature (vulnerable to lightning and wood, immune to water) Conversely humanoids are vulnerable to darkness but not immune to any element. Would a hypothetical non-humanoid player 'opt in' to the element system for various quests or should there be a set standard?
  13. I have been to various shops, but I do not have a lot of money to spend. I met an old werehound who said something odd to me, but I couldn't understand it. I have been to triad park and to some of the smaller parks around the city, they are havens 'midst the busy city. I have not yet been to the hanging gardens though, nor to the Heroica Library. Who is this En Sabah Nur you speak of? He sounds like a helpful person. How do you know him? I was thinking that if I am not selected for any of the quests I might travel across the sea to Ennon and then up to home. It will nearly be the Festival of Centurus. I imagine that naga do not celebrate the turning of the year?
  14. Nerwen returned from her weekly meditation to a busy hall. She had never seen so many heroes at one time, and she knew there were still four quests out in the field. Among the new faces she spotted another elf, clearly a rogue, another orc and an apelike creature. Perhaps he was a metasimian, she had heard of such people but never seen them. There were also new names beneath the quests on the board. The fact that she was the only cleric on each list must be good for her chances. Similarly, Sarick, the naga she had met was the only mage. Sarick... where was he? Spotting the serpentine figure through the crowd, Nerwen crossed the hall, to be brought up short. The naga was no longer wearing a human face, His visage was reptilian, alien, but clearly his. It radiated a cold intensity that Nerwen had felt in his words when they spoke last. Greetings Sarick. How fare you? It has been a little while since we spoke... I see you are the only mage signed up for quests thirteen and fourteen. Perhaps that means we will be questing together. Taking her customary water from the passing tray of Sheherazade, she turned back to the naga mage.
  15. As a new quests are put on the board, Nerwen goes down to the lobby and Nerwen signs up for quest #14 An elf that Nerwen hadn't met yet walks into the hall. Like Alexandre she seemed young. Very young. Perhaps she'd been brought up around humans. Or had a tragedy befall her family. In any case, she was clearly an experienced hero and the way she moved suggested much practice hunting. Nerwen approached her and said Elen sila lumenn omentilmo! (A star shines over our meeting! or Hello!) My name is Nerwen. You were one of the heroes questing in the school? what happened? Tell us all about it, please.
  16. A small chuckle escaped Nerwen I do not mind at all... All of the gods can send their power to heal their followers. Galadrya and Celebryon teach balance and purity. That's what art and beauty are, things working together in harmony. The same idea applies to our bodies. Sickness is imbalance and impurity, so healing is calling on the gods' power to restore beauty. Of course, when attacking foul creatures of evil, causing damage removes them, again increasing the civilisation of the world. I hope my explanation helps.
  17. This is not solely directed at B&P, but I haven't seen it written down anywhere to help people who've never RP'd before. It is considered a little impolite to narrate for another character unless you have their permission.
  18. I think this is the best solution. Though spirit guard is one of the attraction of the class.
  19. Nodding at Guts' reply Nerwen replied. Amadea and Melodion, we Elves call them Galadrya and Celebryon, we are taught that they created the first elves. To bring civilisation and beauty into the world. Nerwen chuckled. Some say they did not succeed. In any case, not every elf commits to the true path, many stray. But the heart of each elf touches something of their power and can feel it move in the world. It is said that is why elves age slowly once grown, that the power of the gods keeps us young. Waving her hand airly, Nerwen stops talking. Guts was just as keen on his food as comparative theology. Nerwen appreciated such directness. It gave her hope that quests would come quickly, as humans made problems for one another and sought to have them solved.
  20. Sorry to butt in, but if I recall correctly, to pass an item between players in battle requires both to spend an action. That's how it was done in cave sounds -final battle. Good luck in the fight though!
  21. Nerwen turns to Alexandre but he seems to have wandered off. About the gods, I think I understand you, but you cannot deny those that follow them have access to power and can do amazing things. It is certain they exist, else why would there be statues of them, and books about them. Although you are right, they have schemes of their own. Nerwen pondered for a moment. Haven't you ever had the feeling that your life is controlled? your actions dictated? that it is all just a game? Shaking her head to ward off such thoughts. Sometimes I do. But I know that is crazy. As crazy as Alexandre's fairy stories of a place called Spayn in a land called dirt. Food sounds good though. Scheherazade bustles over laying out breakfast for Guts and a light snack for Nerwen. It always surprises me how she knows what to bring... perhaps she has a crystal ball behind the bar!
  22. Nerwen turned to look at man in the headwrap. He was slightly damp, but didn't reek of wine, and he had a new shirt too. Thank-you yes. It is good of you to ask. You seem better as well, are you rested? The spinning head feeling Nerwen had was passing. And the hall was getting busy again. I doesn't seem like anyone else in the hall felt it. Perhaps no-one else is a cleric of ... I think they are called Amadea and Melodion here. You look more like a follower of Mercutio, Master Guts. Nerwen sat and poured from a pitcher of water. Something less fermented to drink gentlemen?
  23. You didn't feel that? Someone called on Galadrya and Celebryon for power. Something... big... happened nearby. Nerwen shrugged. She wasn't sure what was going on. Thank you for checking on me, little one. I imagine some of the heroes on quests will have some interesting stories to tell. Though some have been gone a long time. I heard in the marketplace that there's one group that's been running all over the countryside, chasing a lion? Do you know anything about that? re. character development: If there's no-one to talk to, sometimes you gotta talk to yourself!
  24. Possibly. Or it could be a reference to another group that might be met in quests, like Zoot's cultists or Neron's Merfolk or Sylvana's fairies...
  25. A large yawn escaped Nerwen as she walked through the door to Heroica Hall. It had been a busy couple of days exploring the city. She had seen the Academy of Enlightenment, but it was in a stasis bubble as some Heroica Heroes were sorting out a graffiti problem. Down in the market there was a new cart with some tempting items. But Nerwen was new to adventuring and had not yet gathered the 'fat lootz' that Karg had told her about. She had also been in other shops too, including a glassblowers where a strange old werehound had told her Hwhiayyn/anm/ayc//usbtceirleal,ty/c? Then he winked at her. As good as she was with languages, she couldn't figure out what he was saying. Now, back in the hall, everyone seemed to have stepped out or fallen asleep. Perhaps it was all the free drinks Scheherazade was serving. Nerwen was about to sit down again when she felt a huge shiver run through her. I was like the feeling of a healing, calling on Galadrya. An image of an large room filled with seats flashed through her mind. She did not understand it at all...
