Thanks for the prompt replies. So, in answer to the first question, you can hit enemies, but unless they're undead, it will heal them. All up, it's not an essential item for a cleric..

Quick questions about healing staff. Apologies if these have been covered before. I went looking but info is buried under multiple walls of text. It's a weapon, so it can hurt enemies? It's a weapon, so it can be upgraded? To heal in combat involves "attacking" an ally, healing an amount equal to wp? Does it use ether? Can it hurt undead? Can it be used outside combat, if so, how? Anything else I need to know if using it as a cleric? Thanks in advance!

It wasn't a dig at you directly. But there is something about the character you're playing that sparks this stuff. I like the character and there's a lot that will be revealed about him. Such as what is he if not human. Is his age a payment for services or a curse for mistakes? But yes, a name would differentiate pretzel from real life monks.

Once again, people have strayed into this topic of conversation. For everyone's piece of mind, please be extra sensible about posting on this topic and (for other's sakes) please refrain from joking about it. Remember, Heroica is a fictional world and it's pantheon has been established. Yes, it's not meant to be exclusive, you can have other gods. You can even have a God that espouses monotheism (patently ridiculous, game-wise) or even a god that became a mini-fig and lived and died. But if you are going down that road, put in a little imagination and come up with at least a creative name for it, if not a twist or two. Importing ideas wholesale is variously boring, confusing and offensive. We're all imaginative people here, step up your game!

Heroica RPG - Quest #24 Hunt for the Draugr
Chromeknight replied to Capt.JohnPaul's topic in The Heroica Archive
Apologies. Had R&D thread and this one open in separate tabs and clicked the wrong one to post in. -
So, I think you're suggesting, a couple of heroes not currently out on a quest don't post in the hall thread of a while. You send a bunch of pm's back and forth with them, perhaps including pictures. Then after a little while they come back to the hall and talk about what they've just been up to. Their stats and inv are exactly the same as when they stopped positing in the hall, but they now know some other heroes a bit better. I can't see a problem with taking time out of the hall, but it seems like an awful lot of work to go through. As always, heroica is a shared world that works best when it's, well, shared. That's why I'm not a huge fan of splitting parties and giving some private pm quests, but that's my own opinion. Sounds like you're going to do something similar? My question is what do you feel that running it like a quest does that just having discussion about each others' characters in pms doesn't?

Clearly Cronk is much more fluent in Orcish than he is in common. Perhaps he's like one of those immigrants, that is a taxi driver here, but in their own country was a brain-surgeon...
-
Nerwen smiles gently at Cronk's rebuke. Nods sightly and continues. My name is Nerwen. I learnt Orcish when I was younger and enjoy practicing it. But yes, you're right, since we are in a human city, let us speak common. And yes, I am a cleric. But you yourself have had more than a brush with the higher powers, since you are a paladin. Your story must be intriguing indeed. Tell me, if you would, where have you traveled from?
-
Nerwen climbed the stairs to the saloon, looking around to see who was in the hall. She was greeted with the incongruous vision of a figure clad in bright, polished armor. Before him sat a mug of milk and a long pink straw curled from the liquid up, around and in through one of the holes of the plumed helmet. Clearly he was enjoying his drink. Nerwen smiled at the sight and moved closer. As she did so it became clear that the figure was both an orc and a paladin. Her curiosity piqued, Nerwen sat at the table with the orc and said in orcish <Hail and well met -warrior of strength>

General Discussion and Announcements

I'll sign up for another school. Although Witchbreed was fun, I'd like to school as a townie also. And Sandy, when will we see HEROICA appreciation tags? -
Nerwen returned to the hall, glancing at the questboard as she went past. The return time travel had been difficult and she had spent several days meditating to recover. Now she was feeling more like herself. Looking around, the hall was subdued. Most of the heroes were in bed.Walking around the corridor to the Heroes' Gallery, she flipped through the roll to find... Leo Aragon (played by TheBoyWonder) ~ 17 years old male human Knight ~ Joined Heroica on the 12th of September, 2011 ~ Successfully completed Quest#4: Taming the Lions at Level 10 on the 17th of November, 2011 ~ Successfully completed Quest#16: The Paladin Conquest at Level 13 on the 31st of January, 2012 ~ Has good reputation among the Shadeaux and the Bonapartes A 17 year old human? She shook her head and pulled out the pieces of pink paper. How could he have known the right words in his first letter? And he had a jaga'dha... She had known he was young by his words, but thought he was in his 80s or 90s, at least. Around the age of her daughter, who was off in the mistlands last she'd heard. Nerwen knew that 17 was young even for a human. Perhaps it was all an elaborate trick. She knew that humans liked such things on Mercutio's day. But that was the start of the month after next... She had agreed to meet him though, and she would. He would have a chance to explain. But in the meantime, Nerwen left the hall, seeking solitude in leafy avenues of triad park.

The prompt response bursting out of a pink puff and landing in her lap startled Nerwen. The brevity of the letter was also a surprise. Her previous contests of Tel'Qassir generally took nearly a year to arrange. The note showed the writer was young and wore his emotions close to the skin. Nerwen remembered when she was like that, and remembers the difficulties she had guiding Eldana through that phase. There was something intoxicating about such passion, and Nerwen was drawn to it. But she knew that the things he was asking for took time to flower well. With a sigh she set her quill to paper M.Aragon Both those things are things I can give, since I am still young. But they take time to flower and your note betrays an impatience. I would happily counsel you in patience and control of your passions, that you grow into a great one, who is a credit to his family. As for the rest, we shall see what blooms in time. Does this course suit you? Md.Calmcacil I have Z-mail!

Leo's reply reaches Nerwen in the sepia stasis of a decaying Zeigfried spell. She is intrigued by his forthright missive and pens a reply. M.Aragorn Thank you for your earnest offering. And I am glad that you at least have your jaga'dha, though I have no intention of taking it from you. May I ask what you would like of me? Md.Calmcacil Then speaks the magic words I have Z-mail!
-
Um.. read my reply again? The word crossed out is River. The name of the firely/serenity character who speaks the line. I was just being subtle.
-
Do you want to just write the quest off, send everyone back to the hall and re-run it when you're back together? What do others in the quest think?
-
Since you've stated you're not a rock villager, is this a hint that you're a riverwater villager?
-
Saesa omentien lle. I understood your name from the quest list. But yes I am Nerwen Calmcacil. I lived to the north of Ennon and was only very young when the wars ended and the orcs fled toward our homes. My father hunted them, but as I came of age, the elders realized that the orcs had been under the sway of some dark power. A power which had turned on them and was now hunting them. In my nineteenth decade I worked in an orcish refugee camp, tending to the elderly and preserving as much of their lore as could be salvaged. A whole generation of orcs was lost to the dark madness, it was terrible to see. Afterwards I returned home and fulfilled the duties of a Liramaerae and Taur'ohtar, but it was as a amandil, a cleric that I found peace and a connection to Galadrya. Hearing of the need for clerics in Eubric and feeling this was where my path led, I came to join. With a puff of pink a letter materializes out of nowhere and drops in Nerwen's lap. She reads it and is intrigued. Writing a reply she turns to Amorith and asks Do you know a hero named Leo Aragorn?
-
M. Aragon Am I to hope that this is a formal offer of Tel'Qassir? You are, I expect, prepared with all the necessities under the prescribed Bel't'Celebryon? In any case I am currently engaged in a quest and also some 500 years in the past. I am surprised that the mail finds me even here! When I return to the hall we will meet and I will examine your jaga'dha and you may see my pthon, if this pleases you. Md. Calmcacil. I have z-mail!

As the guards withdraw, dragging the bodies of their fallen companions, Nerwen slumps against a wall. The sepia tone of the world was distracting, making things seem flatter, less defined. It made it harder to concentrate, harder to summon the focus to draw on the powers of the gods. The small angelic figure that had been Lord Boomingham's constant companion darted over towards her. His brief dialogue had been the first words she'd heard him speak. His voice sounded... familiar. Thank you Barty. Bartolimaeus I presume? Nerwen streteched her tired limbs and looked around. Noting the changes in her questmates. Particularly Sarick. Since he had shed the human like disguise she had first met him in and returned to his natural visage he seemed... well, colder. More alien. Perhaps he simply showing his real self rather than a mask. The other mage, Marvolo, had been very focused in the battle, but now outside it he seemed a little lost. And Lord Boomingham, with seemingly boundless confidence had stepped up to challenge the figure on the balcony. There was no way to help him now. Even if she did have anything that he might be able to put to use. The quest hung in the balance.

I hadn't weighed in before as Nerwen still has at least a quest and a half to go before reaching 15, but I'd decided on witch as her advanced class. There will be rp to fill out the choice but from a meta-game. Level I wanted to avoid the predicable Paladin/Druid path that is developing. No offense to Cronk meant! Saying this shouldn't affect your choice for Atramor, Pie. I'm just suing you wouldn't be the only witch (though you'd likely be the first!).
-
I intended no offense. I should have added a smiley too. I am enjoying the battle but it is frustrating not being able to hit the side of a barn. Perhaps I should take up training as a stormtrooper!
-
You're using the wrong dice! Nerwen drew a deep breath. It seemed that the power of the elven deities had left her. surely it could not be so. Perhaps she was not completely focused. Stilling her thoughts and settling her mind, Nerwen heals Octavian again.
-
Nerwen heals Octavian sorry guys, rl is busy atm, I am around but not as able to answer as I'd like.
-
Nerwen heeds the instruction of the party leader and gathers her energies to heal Amorith
-
Seeing Lord Boomingham fall under the weight of blows, Nerwen was troubled. It seemed that fate itself was conspiring against them, turning their strikes against them and allowing enemies to dodge past well set shields. And now she was unsure about how they might win the battle. With so many enemies on the field I should be striking, but with so many injuries, I should be healing. Sarick, which should I do?
