Heroica RPG - Quest#13: The Darkstar
Chromeknight replied to Rumble Strike's topic in The Heroica Archive
OOC: just some clean up of stats. Fenimor has 3 potions, not 2. He starts with one and bought 2. His inventory is wrong. Sarick also has a staff of healing (HP:5). Nur gave it to him as he left the hall. Dak has 6/7 health from trying to read sorrow's mind. Order of battle Knifk Nerwen Fenimor Guts Dak Sarick Nerwen attacks the Pegleg Thug (Trident) from the front row. Choose your targets! But it would be good to deal with the pegleg thug quickly. we don't want more people stunned that we have to. Sarick, since none of the targets are vulnerable to ice, save your ether and just use your dagger from the front row. -
Any bored BlueBrick wizards out there?

You'd be surprised. A quick mockup in track draw show that an equivalent layout in l-gauge is 80"x40" (6'8" by 3'4") It's actually smaller than the O-Gauge inspiration! See picture here... loopback by ChromeKnight, on Flickr -
It's not a puzzle. It's a roleplaying scene. And the thing about those is there is no wrong way to do them. Because there's no rules, no dice roll and certainly no 'correct' answer, we keep going until we find something we think is a clue and run with it. At least that's my understanding. And as for an elf acting superior? what else would you expect....

Heroica RPG - Quest#13: The Darkstar
Chromeknight replied to Rumble Strike's topic in The Heroica Archive
Nerwen's mind runs through various scenarios. She has help and they brought her this man. The help knows this man knows something about the darkstar, but does not know what he knows. All the help knows about this man is that he came to Eubric to buy medicine for an illness from an unlicensed medicine man. Either She does not know what the man knows, but will recognize something when she hears it. Or she does know, but is testing us, seeing how violent or ruthless we are. It seems that following the sickness is the best lead. First to the medicine man, then to the village. -
Heroica RPG - Quest#13: The Darkstar

No! Nerwen rarely speaks loudly, but this time her voice cuts through the conversation. No. This is not civilized. Not the way of Galadrya and Celebryon. I will not be party to torture and coercion. Release him from the chains. You say this gem has great power. You say it may have even been created by the great deceiver. You say the Zeigfrieds want it, that they are worried about the wrong hands. But is how you have treated this man meant to persuade us that yours are the right hands? Nerwen's body is tense, and her eyes are fixed on Sorrow's. Watching the other woman's pale face. Audition? Ha. We may be new, but we are heroes of heroica. You have asked for our help to secure this artifact. But if this man does not trust you, why should we? Nerwen reaches out with her healing power to determine if the man is injured. If so, she expends 1 ether to heal him. Turning to the chained man. I do not know if this woman or the Zeigfrieds can be trusted. But you have my word on this. If this thing truly is from the forsaken one and you are keeping it for some purpose, you will be betrayed and devoured. That is how the false god operates. And you would be naive to think you can benefit from holding onto it. -
Heroica RPG - Quest#13: The Darkstar

Perhaps we should wait until we arrive wherever she is leading us, this woman might not be our actual employer, only a servant. We need some trust up front. But I am concerned about the lack of communication. Nerwen waits to see what happens as she watches as Guts and Knifk move up either side of the mysterious woman and begin asking questions. -
Thanks for the pickup. Fixed.

Have you got everything you'd like from the marketplace? Nerwen also speaks to Fenimor (OOC I'll use //marks for speaking to Fenimor in Cho) //You should have been given a potion as well as a mead when you joined Heroica. Do not forget to pick it up before we go!//

Nerwen greets Portia and buys 1 Fire bomb she has 0 gold left, but feels more equipped for questing (edited to remove overspend!)

The image of the purplish stone interrupted Nerwen's day of planned meditation. In mild frustration and a slight haze she made her way back to the hall. As she walked past the questboard she saw that the list of names under quest #13 had been changed to indicate who was to quest. She was surprised that she had been given the job of leading the quest, but understood that as a cleric she would often be standing back from the fights, and so better able to direct their flow. She looked again at the list, and around at the hall. She could see Knifk at the bar, with Gorg and felt a little sad the other Orc would not be joining them. Guts and Dak she could see and knew had spoken with them, though she wondered how Guts would cope, being the only human in the party. Especially with the fishman, whose name on the board had been transmuted from the odd symbol he had used to a name in common, Fenimor Vish. Nerwen rolled the name around on her tongue a few times, getting used to its odd cadence. As if drawn by her non-vocal musings, she turned to see the gummy-warrior looking in her direction. Only the Naga, Sarick was not to be seen. Nerwen wondered where he was. Moving across the hall to Guts and the orcs she said. Greetings. Gorg I'm sorry you weren't chosen to come with us, I'm sure you will get to quest soon. Guts, Knifk, I'm looking forward to adventuring with you. Have you got everything from the marketplace you would like? And have you seen Sarick around? We only need him to get started. I believe I will have a wine, while we wait , as you suggest master rogue.
-
After Nerwen had stepped to the bar and asked for a beer, the hooded rogue lent over and said.. Recalling Guts' experiences with beer, Nerwen was not surprised he was leery of it. But still he had a mug of it in front of him. Consider me warned Master Rogue. But what would you suggest instead?

The barbarian with lovely hair left the hall. He had clearly been quest-mates with the piratical looking chap accompanied by the chicken. Nerwen thought it an odd pet to keep. But then again, chickens were odd animals and took strange fancies. The pirate, clearly roguish had been doing business with a metasimian, dressed in a natty black ensemble. Likely another rogue, though in his case, perhaps a rouge too. Despite having lived for much longer than any of them were likely to have, Nerwen felt a little intimidated and shy about approaching them. In this place one was measured by an intangible metaphysical constant of 'level', a way of keeping track of how many enemies one had defeated on quests. Since she was yet to be selected for a quest, she was still new and she ached for the thrill of adventure with companions from the hall. She guessed it would be similar to the hunting parties she explored with when she was living at home with family. Despite not having meditated on them recently to bring back the memory, it was still fresh and clear in her mind, a treasured possession of personal history. Clever Lenwë, Forthright Alassë and her friend Tathar, Maeglin who was stout and true and Valandil the tall. Without intending, Nerwen slipped into a light trance, reflecting on the times they had spent together and the bonds they had forged though struggle. An image of a darkly shining purple gem startled her out of the state. Nerwen pondered the flash of vision. Premonition? Warning? or something else? Foresight was a tease and one could not live one's life by it. She arched her back, easing the tension. Perhaps she ought to try some of the hall's beer, others were obviously enjoying it, she might as well join them.

Just wondering. For the non-perfect answers people, are you nudging them in the direction of the right answers in the meantime? And is it metagaming to target them in the first day? :) -
Taking a break from communicating with the pescetine, Nerwen addresses the Ranger. Greetings, Ranger. My name is Nerwen, I have not met you yet. Did you enjoy your quest? Where did you go? what did you have to do?

I'm keen to play. Answering the questions >see PM I have read the appropriate bits of mafiascum.net I am available regularly for 30 days for around 1hr a day (though I am in Australia! so my timezone is different to most) I have not played Mafia on EB before. Thanks! -
Now that some form of communication has been established, Nerwen is a little less anxious about the newcomer's ability to intergrate into Heroica. She replies in the same language used to address her.
-
By watching the fish-man's reaction to the returned note carefully, Nerwen guesses that his 'language' is a complex mix of non-verbal cues. Somewhat like the P'jar in the islands far south of Ennon, whom she visited briefly. She tests her theory attempting to 'ask' the fish-man to sit. (Hand palm up moving beckoningly)-(Head-nod indicating welcomingness)-(body turn of object/attention shift)-(coordinated eye/arm move suggesting chair)-(facial shift of supplication*dominant mode with upward inflection) She also points to herself and says Ner-wen Then pointing around the table, adds Gaa-tsz, Al-ph, Erd-ath-cath carefully sounding out the names of the gathered heroes. Then adding (Gesture denoting subject/inquiry?) And waits for his response...

Oh, this is so much fun to watch!

Yup. Unfortunately Jorgevorg is new and can't use the messaging system yet.So.... To: Jorgevorg. Well played sir! Where did you get your fish font? Thanks again for making the game fun, I hope we get to go questing together!

Taking the small square of paper from the Sargassan, Nerwen nods her head in a gesture meant to indicate thanks. Unfolding it she is impressed patent impossibility of folding a sheet more than 7 times (Yes, I know there's only six folds, I'm trying to give him some credit) After pondering the message, she wonders how to respond. Knowing 12 languages she tries several in a row to find out if the newcomer knows any. Shrugging, she recalls his attentiveness to the quest-board. The fish-man could clearly read common. She turns it over and writes.

I am well. and have been enjoying the ambiance of the hall lately. I am excited about the upcoming quests also.

There already is an order of paladins in Eubric. Followers of Ennon. I think that the knight/cleric will not be called a paladin.
-
I think the situations being referred to depend on who has haste. If an enemy has haste, it is treated as if that enemy gets a free hit. (unless they weren't targeted at all and would then get two free hits). On the flip side, If a hero has haste they get to make two attacks, which runs the risk of triggering an enemy's special twice (about 2% of the time). Depending on the special the enemy has, this could wipe a party out very quickly. aoe = area of effect, world of warcraft term. ie. a special which damages multiple heroes in one attack.

I first came to the hall 13 days ago, though it seems longer. Of course I am not here all the time, I have explored the city and, as is my custom, spend the sixth day meditating and ordering my memories. Of course, I have known about Eubric for quite some time, but have not had much chance to properly visit until now.
