Hey, now thats a good idea. It will be very interesting to see all the variations that people come up with on brickshelf. Herrbie variations, drag beetle's with role cages! Should be neet! Agreed. I'm not sure if i like this or not. A bit to <insert that tiresome argument> for me. :-P Imight get it to mod it into a drag Beetle. Hopfully we'll see more VW modelsin the future. I'm sure theVW bus will be next, followed maybe by a Carmengia, or GTI!

Well, my lego feet of techinc and creator cars and trucks are steadily growing. One thing i like about my fleet, is that nearly every vehicle i have serves some kind of purpose, or is used for a spesific duty. The one thing my fleet lacked was a trail cabable 4x4 that could comfortably transport 2 or more Techinc figures and thier equipment in the out reaches of my back yard and beyond. *sweet* I was going to build one from scratch, but then realized that i already had a good platform to start with. I bought 4404 dirt diggers creator truck a couple years ago and has always been one of my favorite lego sets due to its detail, and overall design. As with many lego sets there's always room for improvment, so the modding soon began. Quite a bit has been done so i'll just let the pics do the talking. I apoligize for the low quality pics. my camera doesn't take the best closeups. All the mods done have been to better improve off road performance. The biggest mod is the extended cab. It can haul 4 techinc figures comfortably, whitch is quite rare. The rear rack hold everything from ladders, ski's, extra lighting, high lift jack, and even a row boat! The rear holds a custom spar tire carrier, along with an extra gas can. Both swing open to allow access to the bed. Inside the bed can be used to haul anything that the the paticular outing might need. Right now i have storge cabniets. I'm not really happy with its current setup, so it will probbly be changed before the next expededtion. The next biggest change was the suspention. It came with indapendant front and rear suspention with no steering. This worked ok, but didn't give the truck enough flex for serious off road duties, so once the dession was made to make this a trail rig, the indapendant suspention was ripped out in favor of 4 link front and rear soild axle suspention with steering. This gave the rig the amount of flex needed to conquer the most rugged terrain. Other off road mods include a front winch, off road brush gaurd, rock sliders and snorkel for crossing streams and lakes. Thanks for looking. The rest of the pics can be seen here. Sorry i don't have many action shots. We just got a really big rain storm, so all the dirt in my yard is mud right now. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=294294

Why do people complain about juniorization?
5150 Lego replied to Zuloon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well i have to admit, that there were a few years that lego (at leastin there city line) had some preety lame sets that were mainly big usless peices. The car chassis were good examples. I couldn't agree more. But it seems like every time there is one big peice used in a set, someone calls the hole set <insert that tiresome argument>. Like what though? I can't think of a single theme in lego that has been simplified like your describing. The problem is that most of the complaining i've seen about juniorization has been the larger sets. Just going by my own observations. I agree that size has nothing to do with it, but regarless people seem to like to complain that Size = Juniorzation. Again, no argument that rthe city cars in the late 90's were nothing more than flat plates with wheels and wind shields. I was out of my lego building then, but i remeber going to TRU and seeing these sets on the ilse and thinking how lame they were and "They don't make them like they used to". Luckly, we haven't seen anything like that in years. But we still don't have doors in city sets! 8-| -
Agreed. the first AVP was a big disapointment, so i also didn't expect much from the second. But i have to say it was preety good. Alot of action, and played omage to the original aliens, and predator movies. They got right to the action with this one. that was one bad megablocks predator to take on the hole alien nest by himself! *y* But the last movie i saw was National Treasure 2. Not bad. Not as good as the first though, but sequels ussually aren't.
-
The second set seems cool. Like a car dealer! The only thing that prevents me from getting most racer sets are all the stupid stickers! |-/ You spend more time putting on stickers than actually building the set!
-
Well first off, thanks yoda for the great review. :-) Hmmm... Well, i have to say, i'm not at all impressed with any of these sets. I mean, there nice and all, but the van just seems way to small. It would have been nice if you could fit more than one package in it. I guessi'm one of those that are more of the fan of the 6 wide trucks. And the plane.... Hm. this has a "cute" factor and all, but i mean com'on... You have to open a hatch on the roof to get your packages in?? And what about getting them out? You have to flip the plane upside down? :-| Weak. They should have had a hinged rear end or a hatch on the side.

Wow! The Humvee is awsome. Very creative way to open the doors and great detail thoughout. But i have to say..... Your v-22 Ossprey is absolutly amazing! The detail is great! One of the best mocs iv'e seen!
-
[Absolutley fantastic! The coast guard line is without a doubt, the best line of 08 so far! I'm liking everything i've seen so far. The large 4x4, is superb! Hopfully we'll see a suspention. The helocopter is probbly the best city based helocopter lego has ever came out with. Very impressed. *y* The ship..... Wow. Thats all i can say at this time. Still speechless. *wub* . This also has to be one of the best city ships i've ever seen. Hopfully it floats! Can't wait to pick these up! Imight have to pick them all up at once!
-
Very impresive! Exellent building techinques and details used thoughout the build! Iv'e always wanted to see an 8 wide long nose big rig. The only thing i would change is the size of the 5th wheel. It takes up the back end. Also, after checking out your gallery, i'm really impressed with the black pickup Very detailed!

New TECHNIC sets for 2008
5150 Lego replied to Conchas's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Woot! 700th post!! Anyways, finnally, some pics of the fall lineup! Excavator: Fantastic! *sweet* I love the fact thats its red instead of standard yellow. Nice change. I've very curious though to see how these new acctuators work. nice to see the new tracks being used so widely. Defenatly a must have set. Telahandler: Another great looking set. After the smaller one we got last year, a larger one was jut a logical choice. But i have to say, like some have pointed out already, i'm a bit disapointed with the tilting mechanism of the fork. I could see using that same method in the smaller set, but it seems to me that there could have been a better solution for a larger set. Oh well, these are just plim. pics, so we'll see. Off Roader: Hmm.... :-/ At first glance i'm not all that impressed, but after looking at the box, there seems to be alot of functions. Suspention, power functions, and new lights! Hopfully it will be a true 4x4 with a differential in the front axle. I do wish that it had a gear box. man i miss those. I was out of my lego elemant when those beauties hit the shelfs. And try to find one boxed up? You'll be spending in the neighborhood of 4, to $500 :-/ Over all, its looking to be a good year for techinc. Can't wait to see some better pics. -
Playmobile is a great toy. Good to see this topic back up, as it should be. *y* I'm still partial to the town sets myself. alsoways loved that big crane thats been avaible for like 15+years! :-D
-
Sorry, but guns are guns. Just cause there of a differnt era, or don't look exactly like what is avaible today doesn't make them any better than another gun. So to me, that excuse just doesn't fly. Also, Wild West and both were human vs. human. I don't see whats so "innocent"about either. No problem yoda! I got your back! X-D
-
Just casue it isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean its a big mistake. :-| Like many have said, this is just prelim. pics. Also, you can't bash a hole line based of pics of just one set. Com'on guys. Wait till you at least see a couple more pics before you pass full judgment.
-
Agreed. You said it yourself yoda. lets try and be positve about this. one thing that i think many fail to realize is that a set like this isn't aimed at the AFOL market. Its aimed at kids. Yoda said it himself, that this set has tons of playbility, whitch is what kids want. Its big, but not tobig like the helicopter in DINO Attack was. If i was 10 years old, this set would defently be on my Xmas list. I think this is a good step for Lego. Shows a bit of diversity from other lines, whitch i think is good. I will say i think its abit harsh for some to say this is the worst theme ever. I'm not praising this set since this is just a prelim.pic, and can't see it to well, but from what i can see, it looks preety decent.... Agreed. This set has alot going for. I think this line could be very sucsessful for Lego. But time will tell.

Why do people complain about juniorization?
5150 Lego replied to Zuloon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
But you see, mocing is all in the person creating the moc. i remeber when every complained about how <insert that tiresome argument> the airliner plane hull was and that it was commpletely usless. then someone on brickshelf posted pics of it being used as a train hull. I've also seen some preety good space ship mocs with them.Worked really well in that moc. You might not see it as being as usefull of a peice, but for some, it might be just what they were looking for. Not everyone mocs. Some need to remeber than many of the "<insert that tiresome argument>" pieces your refering to are made to please kids, and not AFOL. My nephew absolutly loves his airliner. One of his favorite sets. *sweet* Also, i've noticed alot lately that many coment that a set is too "<insert that tiresome argument>" because of there size, and nothing to do with it using large parts. Many people are stuck in there old building ways, and are to quick to pass off some of these larger sets as being <insert that tiresome argument> simply because its to big to fit in there city. -
Absolutley fantastic! X-D. The ship is great. The truck and camper are great adtions. I'll have to convert the trailer to six wide to acomadte mini figs better, but that shouldn't be to hard! The boat has alot of nice details. Can't wait to see more pics! just when i thought they couldn't do better than the roaring roadster, they bring out this beautiful creation! Love the color combinations! And if i'm correct, do i see a working convertable top?? Thats just awsome! Hopfully it will have sterring, but een if it doesn't,the converatble makes up for it! Creator is defenatly looking good for summer of 08!
-
Ok, can yousugjest a better color than orange for coast gaurd? That is in fact the color that real coast gaurd vehicles are. I'd also have to disagree about this being a step back. I beilve this is a very big step forward. Nice to get some diversity in the city lineup. I fail to see how these sets are "<insert that tiresome argument>". The new coast gard truck has alot of nice details on it. The only real big junioried piece i see is the new boat hull. But if it floats, then thats not a bad thing. Many kids like to bring toys inot the bath,so in my mind that would be a plus! And as far as the size goes, that just mean that it will be more equipment it will be able to carry. Another plus in my book. This will defenatly be on my list for 08!

So your saying you will be bying both the regular new movie DVD, ans well as the Speacail features DVD? :-P Now most know how i felt about the new movie (loved it *wub* ), but iv'e been hereing alot about this new series. Just one question, have they already shown it? Has the series started, or are people sjust comementin about the clip that has been shown for some time now? When does this new series offcially start?
-
Hmm.. This is very interesting. ;-) I had this exact idea a few months ago, and many people shot it down and said it would NEVER happen. Anyone remember this? http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...c=9961&hl=spies There are many ideas in that thread that are being carried out in this new agents theme. A couple things that excite me are that maybe lego looks on this site for ideas. Also it proves that lego is starting to move away from there so called "anit violence" rule. Well, to be fair, we really don't know if this theme is going to be violent at all. But it does seem to have a darker theme. Anyways its good to see lego branchingout a bit. You just wait guys. preety soon your going to see USC sets of fighter planes, tanks and in time....dare i say... Milatary!! :-P

2008 Technic Line Up
5150 Lego replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hmm.. I'm liking the sound of techinc for late 08. The excavator is a great idea. But for the price, i doesn't sound like it will have an power functions. Hopefully it will pnumatic's in it. telahandler sounds good. Since the small one of last year,i always thought a bigger model would be great. Now the offroader. This kinda scares me. This could either be really good,or a big let down. All though i liked the "Off Road Truck" we got in 07, it wasn't very "off road cabable". Hopfully it will be a true 4x4, with 4 wheel suspention. A gearbox would be nice, but doubtfull. Engine is a must of course. itwould benice tosee somthing with solid axles instead of indapentant suspention, but that might be tricky with lego. In all,i think it will be a good year for Techinc. Acttually, all lego. I don't see how 08 is going to be a bad year. -
Is this new? Looks like a great little set.
-
Saw I Am legend yesterday. Good movie. Ended alot differnt than i thought, but was still good. If you go to see it on IMAX, then you'll see 6 minutes of the new batman movie "The Dark Knight". Really good clip. Whats cool is there no warning of the clip. I thought that i was watching the begining of I Am Legend, intill the Joker took off his mask.
-
Great review as always Yoda! This is a must have for me. The only thing that bugs me is that you can't put to pallets in one container. With just one, there seems to be alot of unused space. Might have to combine both containers on the truck an trailer to make one big trailer.
-
You ruined it for yourself. I went to go see I Am Legend yesterday in Imax. WHats cool,is there is no warning of the Dark Night trailer. I actually thought i was watching the begining of I Am Legend. Didn't realise what i was watching intill the Joker unmasked himself. Seemed alot longer than 6 minutes. Absolutly incredable on Imax! Felt like i got to movies in one!
-
Well,i had big plans for that boat. Was going to make a trailer for it, and change around the cabin design. Possibly even convert it into a coast gaurd type boat. Problem is i didn't have the right parts to make the trailer tomy liking, so i never got to it. Right now it just sitsin the corner of my room like it was shipped wrecked. At least some of it will be put to good use. Anyways, thats for the link for that fabuland set. Unfortunutly, i can't find anyone on brick link thats selling it. Even worse, no one has the pick axe.
