  1. Wow, and people complain that a military type line would be to violent. Here we have half dead soilders and a space shuttle bombing people with severed skeleton heads! i have to say this is the first time i've heard of this theme. I like the colors as most have pointed out. The base plate is preety cool two. Could use it to moc up some garages.
  2. Rat rods in Lego form! I like!
  3. I do apreaciate you thinking that the "Spies" idea was possible, but most didn't. Its preety easy to look back and say that my "Spies" idea was pluasible since somthing very simular has been done. The "spies" idea really had the same presidence that the agents line currently does. Its no more serious than the agents line either. I really don't see anything "cartoony" about it either. while i can apreaciate your argument and opinion, all your doing is making excuses for the violence that obviously persists in the line. Just because you feel its "cartoony" doesn't make it any less violent. Is it as violent as a potential HALO line? No. I will defenatly agree with you on that, and considering its target audience, your probbly right that it isn't somthing that lego would be doing any time soon. maybe....... We'll just have to wait and see.
  4. While i doubt that we would ever see a Halo line, but anything is possible. Two years ago would anyone have thought we'd get anything like the agents line? I remeber i made a simular sugestion several months before we knew about the agents line with very simular ideas to what we have now, and people comented that there was no way that lego would do anything like it. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...ic=9961&hl= We'll, we have a line that nearly everyone thought would never happen, and its one of the most liked themes Lego has done. 10 years ago would anyone have thought we'd have a Star Wars theme? I'm sure people back then thought a star wars line would have been to violent for Lego to do, but its now one of the most sucsefull lines lego has. Just wait. The way things are going were going to see a military type line, and i'lll finally get my Hummvee!
  5. You know what i really miss about classic town? The boxes and manuls. No really... I really miss the detail and almost "warmth" of the back ground art work that the late eightes, early neighties had. They really added to even the simplest sets. Great review of a great little set!
  6. I like it! I also think your idea for the film would also be great!
  7. Hmm.... well i partly agree with this. My local lego stare finnally got the new techinc sets in stock, so i picked up the new off roader, as well as the excavator. (I really wanted the tellahandler instead of the excavator, but the price was more in my budget). Anyways, i think that this was both a good choice for the new linear actuators, and a not so good place for them. After i built the model and began to play with them i quickly noticed that while the new L-A are very smooth in there operation, they are also slow. Very slow. I can eaily see this hindering the playability. Ahh heck, i does. While trying to scoop up some smaller lego parts and dump them in a box, it took a bit longer than i expected. You also get a bit tired of constantly having to turn the knob at the end. ......But, with the addtion of the new power functions set, all of those problems are taken care of. This et really should have included this stock, and not an option. I will agree that having 3 degrees of movment would have been better than two, but for only using 2 actuators, i still think they got the function of the bucket down preety good. Agreed. Although there may not be as many techinc fans as star wars, or bionicle, the topics have allways generated a good amount of interest, with good discusions to boot.
  8. So i saw the Dark Night this weekend. Very good movie. Heath Ledger did a fantastic job job as the joker. Stroy line, plot, acting all top notch. I would have preferred a little more humor, but thats just me. Also, while Ledger'sperformance was great, i'm not to sure about Christan Bail. Its funny. I think he did a good job as Bruce Wayne, but not so good as Batman. His "Batamn voice"just seemed way to fake and forced. Sounded more like he was getting over a cold. As for the "Darkness" that i had meantioned earlier, it acctually wasn't as bad as i thought, or as others made it out to be. I actually feel that Batman begins was more dark. Would i take my 8yr old to see this? Probbly not. But there were a few younger kids there that didn't have any problems, though one mother did walk her son outside covering his eyes. (I don't blame the movie for this, after all it is rated PG-13) Over all it was a good movie movie and i look forward to the next movie!
  9. Agreed. The amount of function, form, and playability factor is by far supiorior to any set in resent memory. I took mine out to my back yardand pushed some dirt around. I felt like a 12 year old boy all over again! The motors have plenty of torque to musle up hills, as well as push/tow some pretty decent loads. I can't wait to add some lights! These new power functions has given us a hole new level of possibilites with our sets. Probbly one of the best things lego has done for the hobby. I just got the new off roader. It will be interesting to see just how bright thoses new lights really are. Construction begins Saturday!
  10. Another congrats to Lewis Hamiltion for his victory in the German Grand Prix! Well done! Thats the way you do it!
  11. Thanks for front paging it! i feel so honored! I did forget to meantion about the alternate models. I was actually going to build the hovercraft, but the interior is really low, and i wanted to be able to fit a wide range of vehicles inside. The plane is great though! Nope. You'd preety muchhave to rebuild a whole new trailer for that, or to be able to fit a mini fig inside. The truck on the other hand, shouldn't be to hard to mod for a mini fig.
  12. So my Birthday was a couple weeks ago, somy girl friend decided to take me on a trip to the Lego Store! I had intentions of getting either the Coast Gaurd Boat and tower to add to my Coast Gaurd collection, or if they had it the new 1:9 scale ferrari F1. While both sets were there, i cameacross this beauty! I wasn't sure at first, and i acctually left the store and thought about whitch one of the Three i really wanted. Afterone of the most difficult Lego purchasing desisions iv'eever made, i decided that the ferry was the most unquie and made my purchase (or my beautiful girl friend janie did at least ) Well enough of that, on with the review!! Lets start with the small first. In this case it will be the little truck and travel trailer or "caravan" to those from europe. Its a basic 4 wide SUV with some round hinge plates to simulate aroof rack, and some "2.5x1" slope bricks to simulate a roof top cargo carrier. Unfortunetly, the SUV can't fit a mini fig inside. The trailer is small in size, but has good detail. I like the the sloped roof and windows. I'm kind of disapointed that the truck and travel trailer wasn't quite made to mini figure scale, but its nothing a little mocing can't fix! Now on to the cream of the crop,.... The Ferry! letsstart from the front and work our way back. Being a creator set, asone would expect, this is intirely a brick built set. No big "<insert that tiresome argument>"pieces that some people don't like. The front of the hole is intirely brick built. using 3x1 slanted bricks. I think it looks great! Next we have the control tower. There is quite a bit of detail going on here. Here you can see the front deck lights, as the pilot lights and all of the radio antenas and radar dishes. In side, there is a sterring wheel and control levers. At both edges of the control tower are little binoculars for looking down the coastline. Its a really small, but at the same time a very "big" detail that really adds to the realisim of the set. Sorry, i thought i had taken a close up pic of this, but i didn't. Hopfully you can see it in this pic. Behind the tower is a nice little life boat. Its small, but high in detail and another great little touch. Now on to the main event. The front of the hull opens up to allow vehicles accses to the main deck. To open up first you need to unlock the front bow. The opening of the bow is controled by a techinic gears on both sides of the hull here... you can also see the life savers on the side of the hull, and the ancor. The opening of the bow. Its alsoimportant to pointout that the as the bow is opened and closed, the front loading ramp is also rasied and lowered at the same time. There linked toeghter via technic peices and ball and sockets. The next shot shows the front of the bow fully opened and gives a good shot of the transport deck. here we have a shot of the rear of the ferry. Here you can see the rear loading ramp and the mechanisim to lift it. Its controled using the same black technic gear as the bow. Its conected to some lift arma, whitch are then conected to chains. As gear is turned it lifts up the arm, in turn lifting the rear loadind ramp. One important thing i should note,is that the front loadind ramp is really only able to fit a vehisle thats max seven wide, or the withe of the inluded red SUV. The rear loading ramp is cable of handling 8 wide vehicles, witch i will demonstrate later. here we have a shot of the bottom of the ship, and how glides across the ground. It uses 4 off center air plane landing gears. This alows it to move practicly in any direction on a smooth surface. here are a few shots of some vehicles loaded on the deck. This is were having 4 wide vehicles in your gleet comes in handy. you could easily fit 4 four wide cars/trucks on the deck of the ferry. Five, and six wide could fit too, but it will be tight. A shot of just the SUV and Travel trailer exiting the front of the ferry. Now i promised i would ellaborate on the size of the loading deck ofthis beast, and that i will do. Whats this? Looks like the local frieght company needs some help getting one of thier cargo trucks across the river. The crew isn't sure if both the truck and its trailer will fit, but their going to give it a go! Its a tight fit, but she made it!! At $69.99 U.S., with 1,279 pieces this set is a fantasic value. It has great playability while still having enough detail to make a nice display model. Price per peice count- - - - - playability- - - - - design- - - - - Although its a creator set and not city, it would have been nice to fit a mini fig in the tower and vehicles. build- - - - Nothing really speacial in the build, but it was straight forward. Overall- - - .5
  13. Sorry. I typed that post in about 2 minutes right before leaving for a doctors apointment. Didn't even re-read it:cry_happy: That doesn't really make any sense to me. Just cause somthing is more "dark", doesn't really mean its going to add to the realisim of a film. There are plenty of ways you could introduce those characters and still keep the "realisim" you speak of of the first two movies. It might not be as easy as the Joker or two face, its defenatly doable. Its easy to say that the Scare Crow wasn't to hard cause you've already seen him take on a "new spin" as you put it. First off, i think your mis-interpeting what i meant by "Dark". It seems to me that your seeing "dark" in a simular fashion as the first two movies. While both Batman and Batman Returns were both "Dark" i felt it was dark the sence that the back ground was more of less that of a city that was old fashion, no warmth, and just run down and dungy. (sorry, not sure if thats rerally even a word). The Dark Night gets its Darkness from Batman himself, the villians, and the violence. Is that a bad thing? Yes and no. Second, i'm not arguing that that takes away from the realisim of the movie, or makes it bad. I will defenatly agree that Batman Begins, and the new Dark Night are more real in the sence that one could now see how Bruce Wayne got his training, hhow he aqired all his gadgets, vehicles and why he becomes Batman. At no point did i ever judge the movie as a whole. Like i already said, i haven't watched it yet, so it would make no sence for me to do so at this time. My "criticizing" was to the fact it sucks that while shopping at Wallmart, my nephew see's nothing but new Batman toys, back-to-school back packs, binders and such plagued with nothing but batman logo's and the Tumber jumping though buildings. I can't take him to see the movie he so much wants to see, cause i'll he'll wake me up at the middle of the night crying, cause he thinks the Joker would come in his room at night and show him his "Pencil trick." Do i think that they should have based this movie (or other comic book based movies) on little kids alone? Absolutlely not. Nor should anyone for that matter. I'm not trying to compare it to a movie that is more suited for a younger audience. I'm a big Batman fan. I would love to be able to take my kids (the day i have some) to a Batamn movie so they too could share love. But at this rate, the next few will probbly hold a rated R rating. As for its PG-13 rating, i read a while ago, that it orignally was going to get an R raating, but the director (This guy Nolan you keep referring to i guess) took out a few scences to bring it down. Again, i don't expect batman to carry the same look and feel that the 60's series did. I believe that was what the directors of Batman and Robin, and Batman forever were trying to do, and thoses movies weren't to good. (Though i always did love in the original series when batman and robin were climbing up buildings and people would pop out of windows to say hi! ) Things evolve with the times, as do characters from the series/cartoons we grew up with. Just sucks that somtimes the younger generation can't enjoy them at the same age we were when we first saw them. I will go and see the movie this weekend as it does look good.
  14. I have to disagree. In that line of thining, one would also have thought that the Scare Crow would also be to "unrealistic" to bring into batman begins, but they found a way to bring him in didn't they? If they really wanted to,there'e a way to bring in nearly every batman character there is. Some will just need to be more creative than others. Though i haven'teven seen the movie yet, ami the only onewho thinks they new Batman movies are getting alittle TOO dark? I mean iv'eheard from nearly everyone who has seen it that the Dark Night was border line horror movie than it was batman. I'm all for taking a more realistic look at the series, but there cutting the line dangerously close. I would have seen it this weekend, but i had my 8 year old neice and nephew with me. Whats reallysad is my nephew is a batman freak, but i can't take him to see the dark Night cause it will for sure give him nightmares.
  15. I completly agree. A time when my biggest concern was getting my homework done in time to watch "Night Rider" (actually i wasn't even born yet when this set came out). Although i preffer the moredetailed sets of today, as well as the 6 and 8 wide trucks, i still have respect for the sets of our yester years....
  16. This is a perfect example of a classic town vehicle. Very basic in its design, but performs its job quite well. I'm give it a 5 out of 5, but i would have liked to see a couple of 1x1 round transparent yellow plates on the top of the black "role bar" to act as caution lights. Other than that a great little set for its time!
  17. Did they anounce anything about Doom 4? I know it was just earlier this year that they only anounced they were going to bemaking the game, but thought maybe, just maybe they might have anounced a projexted realse date, or some leaked monsters/demons.
  18. I reffer printed peices, as they last alot longer, and you don't have to take teduis time to put on stickers. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to stickers, so mine have to be nice and straight. So that takes even more time away. (the ferrari Scudiera trucks was one of the wort, (Couldn't bielve that even the mini fig torso's were stickers!) along with every racers set. But i have to admit, stickers, or printed, it really adds to the realism of the set and gives them that bit more of detail. I generally never take my sets apart, just add on, so using the pieces for mocing really don't conern me, but i can see were having stickers vs. printed pieces would have an advantage. Maybe this(Along with price) is why TLC has mainly stickers instead of printed pieces.
  19. Nice. Were do you live? S&H in the U.S. says it wouldn't ship intill the 23rd of july. Glad to here a good review of this set. Makes my decion to buy that much eaiser! i look forward to your review of the new telahandler!
  20. I'll agree that the bigger parts don't offer the same building experiance as when building with "classic" lego bricks. No argument there. But thats not to say that the new peies don't offer a good building experinace, just a differnt type of build so to speak. Well to be honest, i think thats all in the builder. Not everyone will have the same building experaince, nor will they nessasarly look for the same in the build as others might. I think this is the one of the main problems for the critisism of the bigger parts. For me, if i can use a certain part that really brings my moc,(or even an offical lego set) together, then that adds to the building experaince rather than trying to make somthing work. It doesn't matter if ithat part is a plane hull, or a 1x1 plate.
  21. great little review! This set is looks even better than i thought. The detail is great! To mad there aren't mmore functions, but thatsnothing a little mocing can't fix!
  22. Not true. There have been plently of mocs using the hull pieces of the new passenger planes to make everything from tanker trucks, bullet trains, helicopters (as evident in the new Coast Guard helicopter) and even Mars mission has used the one piece wings. While they may not be as versatile as the the classic lego brick, they still offer plenty in the mocing department. You just have to use your imagination. As for the review on the classic sea plane, i think its a great little set. Very classic in its design (obviously ), and reminds me greatly of little lego sets i built in front of the Tv as a kid! great review!
  23. 5150 Lego

    City 2009

I think a bus stop and a mechanics garage could have alot of potential. espeacially the Garage! Have two bays with role up doors with a lift inside! Though that might present a problem with having a lift and role up doors. So many be just a lift then. I would really like to see a C-130 cargo type plane for the Coast Guard line. I think that would work out great! Preferably a brick built one. Not that the current big one peice hulls and wings are bad, but a brick built plane like the one in the indie set Perl in Peru set would be a nice change.
  24. Congrats to Lewis Hamiltion for winning the British Grand Prix! Iknew he still had it in him! Job well done!
  25. I laughed so hard when i read this.... I laughed even harder wheni read THIS. Mainly because its true!
