  1. 24, going on 13! :oD LOL.
  2. I got set 8421 technic crane. Very nice set, very long build. Over 4 hours into it,and still not done! Got as far as getting the truck portion done, and will tackle the actual crane section tommorw. The big present was my XBOX 360! Grafics are awsome, as are the games! onlyhave FIFA 06 (soccer game for my girl friend),and for me, Prodject Gotham racing 3. My real gift was that this was the first xmas with my girl friend. Having her with all my family was great! Ok, sorry to get all mushy on everyone. Overall, great day! Merry Xmas everyone!
  3. If you like, i can help you out on this. I can call my local lego store and see if they have any (i thought i saw them there). If not, lego.com says they have them avaible now. Let me know. Brandon :)
  4. well, I'm not Gylman, however, I do have this set and I like it a lot, I also did find the boom crashing down quite annoying, so, with some extra pneumatic hosing, I connected the two open ends of the pistions to the switch, so now when I release it, it does not come crashing down, try it out for your self, it works fairly decent. Hey, thanks for the tip chewie! That was in fact what i was talking about doing the same thing. Its good to know that it will work. I'm going to hook them up right now!
  5. Finshed the set last night, and over all i really like this set. main points that i like.... - i really like the out rigger design. They come out far, and do a good job of stabalizing the crane during lifting(a problem i had in 8460,it kept tipping over). -Love the 8 large wheels, and 6 wheel steering. This crane probbly has the best turing radius out of all my sets. -I like the 3 boom lenths . Nice change from the conventional single extention. -The motor to extend the hook, and boom are a nice touch. -Anything that uses a piston engine has my approval. What i don't like..... I agree with you on the bad points of this set. -The pnuematic cylinders use nearly all there power to just lift up the arm itsself. You can forget lifting anything with cylinders with half air. - that brings up when you lower the boom. Like you said gylman, it just crashes down. I'm guessing that conecting the remaining air chamers, to the valve (this is the first time i've ever seen it where lego didn't hook up those lines) would help make the boom come down a bit slower What do you think gylman? Also, i felt it should have been big enough to acomadate a technic figure. You can get onein the passenger seat no problem, but you have to remove the steering wheel, for him to fit in the drivers seat. And forget about the operators cabin. (but i am working on making that bigger, as well as moddifing the cab to better suite the driver) - Then there's price. I did feel that $150 was a bit high, but when youfactor in that youre getting pneumatic cylinders, and a motor, and battery box, its not bad concidering the peices. I can defenatly see this being a very sought after set after it gets discontinued. I do believe that there are better sets for the money, (8460, crane, and though i don't have it yet 8455 back hoeand yes, i do feel that the air tech claw rig was the best valve for the dollar), but if i asked if i would pay $150 for this set again, i would say yes. Over all i really like this crane. I'm going to add 2 more cylinders to give it more lifting power, enlarge the operaters cabin to acomodate a techinc figure, and add a hitch so i can tow one of my trailers.
  6. Well,i finnally finished up this set lastnight, and so far no problems. Has pretty impressive lifting power too.
  7. Second booklet, page 67. After building the rest of the crane,i found out that i do in fact have the wrong lenth rope. Both are suposed to be the same lenth. Luckily, me being the spiffy lego builder i am, i was able to make the longer size work, intill lego sends me the proper size, along with my new decal sheet (i seem to have misplaced mine).
  8. Iv'e seen this one already at toys'r'us a couple weeks ago. I believe its around $6.99. was thining about picking it up,but it didn't really catch me. It is nice that it breaks away from traditional yellow.
  9. I'mnearinng the end of building the crane arm, andi'm atthe part i need to intallthe rope's with the eyelets on. Problem is, that one is considerably shorter than the other. Is this right? Are they supposed to be differnt lenths? Or do i have the wrong part? Sorry for al lthe questions about this set recently. Just its fustrating when you've spent this long building a set to find out you have wrong parts at the end.
  10. Saw this on lego fan.... http://www.legofan.org/FORUMS/ShowPost.asp...spx?PostID=3278 I got this set for xmas, and have only finished the truck portion (am going to tackle the crane section tommorow (man this is a long, but fun build :-D )), soi haven't actually tried extending the arm myself yet. Iv'e also inspected the bricks, and the "hairline fractors" that he's talking about seem to be small scatches instead. Iv'e never had a problem with my gears striping, or breaking in the past, but iv'venever hooked them up to motors with heavy loads either. I'd think the'd be able to handle just raising the arm. Anyways, just thought i'd share this with anyone who has build this set, and have also came across this problem.

  13. Welcome! I just joined myself, and i love it here! Enjoy it here!
  14. Preety much everyone knows, and everyone thinks its cool. My parents, frineds, coworkers, and evenmy girlfriend! My girlfriend actually bought me set 8433 for my birthday, and my parents went on a mission to find me the 1:10 Ferrari Enzo for xmas. (they were unsuccsesfull, so they got me the new technic mobile crane instead, whitch i think is better anyways.) :D I have noticed a differnce between girls, and guys. I work at a car dealership as a technician. When i buy online, i have them sent to my work. (i don't like stuff left on my door step at my house) If i buy local,or in the U.S., it gets sent UPS,whitch gets sent to the shop, and if it comes out of the counrty it gets sent regualr mail, sent to the office. I remember acouple ocasions when i got teased by the guys at work. Once was when i got the Ferrari Scuderia Truck. I thought that some of the guys might think it was cool, since it does really look like the real thing. :) Not so to most. :/ Some just laughed, and shook there heads, others had there little coments. The other time i was on the work computer trying to find 8455 technic back hoe for a resonable price. One of the guys saw me, and comented "for that price you better be able to dig me a real pool!" And started laughing On the other hand when the girtls in the office get there mail, and if there's a big box for me, they ussually know its a lego, and ask me if i could open it in front of them, so they could see it too. There think its cool, and i even have lego converstions with them once in a while. All of my friends preety much know too. My best friend is the one who told me about the lego store. And if is son ever gets legos, he ussually asks me to come over and build them for him, since he seem to have trouble (my friend that is). Over all preety much everyone likes it, and if they don't, i don't really care. Being 24 yrs old, it can be hard, but like most, i don't go parading it around, but i'm not ashamed to admit it either. My girlfriend really likes my hobbie, and even wants me to build her a castle.
  15. thanks forthe helpguys. After a bit of searching, i think i found what i need!
  16. I'm running out of my old style technic breams, andhave grown quite a custom to using this method for building truck/trialer frames, as they are the most sturdy way to build. So if anyone can help me out where to pick someupin bulk, that would be great. Thanks! Brandon
  17. Looking to get some wheels for a couple of prodjects i wana get going. Buti need the wheels first. Mainly the wheels 8436 truck, and the old style like the ones off the airtec rig. Any help would be sweet. Thanks. Brandon
  18. 5150 Lego

    new crane

I like both sets. Espeacially the crane. Tomy knowledge, there's never been a tower crane of any sort till now. The truck with bridge will also net some cool possiblites. Namely trailers. a custom flat bed trailer used to hall 7248 tractor maybe? ;) Or even a cement mixer trailer. Should be sweet!
  19. Technic sets look good! The tractor could have some enteresting possiblites for attachments. The truck looks good to. Looks like its a semi tow truck from the pics. Kinda disapointed though. Cause i've always wanted to build one myself. :( Either way, both of these will be in my collection.
  20. Thanksforthe welcome! I'm slowly rebuilding my city colection. Can't wait for the new sky scraper crane to comeout. I'm up for any city, or technic talk anytime ! Unfortuntly, the lego employee isn't a member of the famliy. That would be preety sweet though.
  21. Nice to see some pics of the ferrari! Looks good. Glad i held out on the 1:10 scale. This one seems to have more detail. And hopfully this one will have suspention.
  22. Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I'm sure i'll like it there! Great to see another lego freaks like myself! :P gylman, nice to have another technic fan around. My vote is for 8438 crane truck Always been a fan of cranes. (i have 8421 under my christmas tree right now!) I like the airtech claw rig too. Thats was one of my favorites too. Wishi never took it apart, but it did give parts to some cool projects.
  23. This is a hard one. I've always been a fan of lego's cranes, so this is one of my all time fav's.. 8438 Crane truck I remeber seeing this in one of my catologs when i was a kid, and fell in love. I don't think i missed a single school asignment, and went to bed without a so my parents would get it for me for Christmas. (to bad it was back ordered, and i dind't actualy get it till like feb or somthing). This is the oldest set that i still have together that i bought when i was young. This crane has had quite a life, and helped build some pretty cool stuffin my back yard. It was also one of the ones i modified the most. Added an attachment jib, made the arms extend longer, made my own outriggers, (the stock ones weren't long enough for what i was lifting). Never had the heart to take it apart...... So i guess i'd have to say that this one is my fav set. *wub*
  24. Hi! My name is Brandon, i'm 24, and am from Califorina in the United States. One of the Employees at my local lego store rec. this site to me, so herei am. A little back ground about myself. I'm 24, and have allways been into legos as long as i can remember. There probbly my biggest hobby at the moment. Though iv'e always been into legos, i stopped my building, and collecting probbly in the mid to late 90's, wheni aquired my first car. I began to modify that, and slowy forgot about my legos collecting dust under my bed, and in my closet. It wasn't till last year when my nephew asked for a lego bionicle set for his birthday that i began to remeber all the fun i used to have. Him and i started to play every time he would visit ( my niece would also get in on the fun as well), and the bug slowly caught me again. My favorite is technic, and town. (or as its now known as world city.) Thanks for looking, and look forward to meeting many of you! Brandon
