Saw the trailer yesterday when i went to go see Cloverfield. This was the first time i had even heard of a new star trek movie,so i was preety excited! *wub* Quick question though.. Is anyone else concerned that not using the original cast of star trek could really hurt this movie, espeacially since its based of the orginal series? I know that everyone in the orginal series is far to old to be used in the upcoming movie, but it will be really wierd to see completly differnt faces on the bridge of the original Enterprise. *wacko*

See, this argument just doesn't fly. They still have a "No violence policy, its just looser than before?" Sorry, but violence is violence. No offense, but most of your argument makes no sence. Just cause they haven't made a militray type theme yet doesn't mean that they never will. If you look at past themes, you will notice that they have been working there way up to that realm. I mean, look at the evolution of lego's "violent" associated themes. Its very evident that lego knows that violent themes sell well and they have been testing these waters for quite some time to see how far they can go. So far nearly every theme assosiated with violence has had good sucsess. Every year lego goes deaper and deaper with violence in there themes. But see, thats the thing. people say that they have a "no killing policy", but yet 2 of there themes show guns blazing right on there box. (exo force and agents), so again, seems that if in fact there was a "No violence" or "no killing" policy, it would seem that lego is changing there so called policies. But you don't need to have the other side die. The examples you give are perfect. Lets look at exo force for example. You have the humans battling robots in other in robots and vehicles. Both sides have weapons. both hand, and vehicle based. What would be the differnce by replacing the robots the humans and robots use with jeeps or tanks? And the POW camp? Com'on. I don't know of any toy, even those that are specificly war based that have those, so of course lego wouldn't even go there. my main point is that Lego could sucsessfully pull off a military TYPE theme without it being any more violent than any theme it currently has. You don't need to have country against country, have POW camps, or it be all about killing. There are many ways around this.

Oh boy, here we go! X-D I'm all about a military theme. Not because i'm all for killing people, but because i think it opens the doors for all sorts of cool vehicle and posibilites thatTLC has never done before. Although i don't know if a pition will work, you can put my name down for a yes. *y* Ok, every time a military or simular type theme is brought up, most peoples imeadiate response is "no way, its against TLC's "No violence policy". Well, can somone please show me this so called policy, cause more than half of Lego's current lines already reek of violence. Batman, Indie, Star wars, Castle, Pirates, agents, exo force. All these themes are asosiated with violence, some more so than others, but all these current themes have weapons in them of some sort. So even if lego did have carry this so called "No violence policy",it was obviously dropped a long time ago. While i apreaciate your point, i don't think its a fair comparision. You can't really compare indie's bi-plane to a bomber plane. A more fair comparision would be the military style truck in the indie line. But lets use the indie line as an example. Anyone who has watched the movies, knows that indie was always trying to keep the german army from capturing anciet (sorry misspelled i know 8-| ) artafacts. Now, Lego obvioulsy couldn't put german flags all of the vehicles for contiversial reasons, and i think that was a great move. Build the same (military)vehicles that were in the movie, just not with any idenifiable country flags. This seems to work quite well without getting anyone upset. One of the trucks even has a gun turent on it, with the troops armed with hand guns. This is basicly the same type of vehicle that you would see in a military line. So can someone please tell me whats the differnce? And please don't use the excuse "Well its a licencsed theme, so they can't steer away from the story". Nope, sorry. That excuse doesn't fly. Guns are guns people. Just cause its a licensed theme doesn't make it ok for lego to violate ist own so called policy. No one is talking about romantizing a military type line. I think what most really want are tanks, helocopters, jeeps/hummvee's, jets and such. One thing that ive nocticed is that many people are against militry type themes, or sets that have violence in them EXCEPT when its in a theme they like. People will make any excuse in the book that there beloved theme isn't violating legos so called no violence policy when its in a theme they like. I've seen many people upset that the new agents theme have hand guns in them, but are all for star wars that have the exact same weapons because its a theme they like. Same with indie. Wether peoplw want to admit it or not, if lego would even introduce a militray type it would more than likey look very simular to the vehicles in the indie line right now. Also, remember the tank and wing plane in the Indie movies? I can almost garantee you they will make it into sets. And both have guns a blaring. Bottome line is a military theme is very possible. If Lego did have a "No violence policy",it was dropped years ago. You can argue that ifyou want, but the evidiedence is all around us.

Exellent point. I've noticed that if its a paticular line that people like, the'll make every excuse in the book to claim that its not asociated with violence. Not quoting anyone in paticular, just from what i've seen with batman, star wars and indie threads etc. I'm stating to like these sets the more i look at them. I'm seeing more and more usable parts, and tones more mocing possibilites. I think this was a good move for lego. On a side note its very interesting to see the positive remarks this linehas gotten now that people have seen pics of the hole line than just one blurry pic. Not sayingthis line is perfect, but it seems to be getting more positive remarks than the first thread would have suggjested.

Not bad.... :-) But not great either. :-/ I'm a bit disapointed with that 4x4 truck and trailer with the jet, (though the jet seems to be preety good :-$ )feelthat one could have been done much better. But i have to say, i love the direction that lego is taking. This theme defenatly screams out action! Tons of playability whitch is sure to be a hit with the younger crowd. I think the big rig mobile comand is still the best of that bunch. I see aolt of posibility with this line. Seem to be off to a decent start.

Wow. Ever time i see this pic i get a big smile on my face. X-D Even makes me feel or warm and fuzzy inside. *wub* Man that was a great set. Built my hole lego town with that bad boy and its what got meinto lego cranes. Aww the memories. :-) Your right on your description. Classic space always had that friendly, innocent couldn't hurt a moon fly. So differnt from what we have now. Those are really nice. I loved the old techinc multiple sets in one. Never had any though, but i do remeber seeing them on the toy store shelf when i was a kid. Heck, who am i kidding. I'm 26 and am still a kid! :-D You know, i see sets like this and i start to realise how some still favor 4 wide cars and trucks in city. Some one else put it best that though 4 wide trucks, cars and planes may not be to scale, but they poses that classic lego charm. They are absolutly right! *y* Wow. Thats quite a first set to have. That to thisday was probbly the best techinc set lego has ever came out with. Suspention, sterring, piston engine, transmission, trunk and convertable top. One day i will have this set, but at 4 to $500 brand new in box, it won't be anytime soon. Though i guess i should get it sooner than later as the price won't be going down anytime soon either. Seeing all these classic sets brings back alot of memmories. Its just really neat to see how Lego has evloved in the last couple of decades. Don't get me wrong, i'm very happy with the current sets/themes avalible today (most of them). I still think that 6 and 8 wide trucks rule, but i now understand a little bit more why some people prefer the classic look of the 4 wide city vehicles. They just don't make them like they used to. :-)

Cool mocs! I like the way the doors openon the truck!
-
Wow. That new bettle moc is great. Lots of detail, yet still poseses the round shape of the new bettle without being to blocky.
-
Ha ha! You know whats funny? I went to TRU today to seeif they had any new sets, and i saw these Best Lock sets for the first time. I would never buy them, but a few parts attually looked like they could have been usefull. :-$ Sorry Hinkely. I can get kinda carried away when it comes to disscussing the hole military/lego violence thing. My apoligizes and i'll keep it on topic. *sweet* This is a great idea. Last night i was thinking of an Area 51 type theme. Kinda like modern day alien/creature hunters. Your post-apoc theme kinda fits that bill. You couldhave jetsand helicopters battling against alien ships and creatures. Somthing along these lines could defenatly work. No problem. :-) My apoligizes to you as well my friend. Somtimes i can get alittle to heated in a debate. :-$ Agreed. Paradisa is a great source for parts! *y* Pillows, sleeping bags, differnt types of foods,(the ice cream and croissants are great) pots and pans, and the cabnets make for great accesories for techinc figures! I used quite a bit of Paridisa accesories in my last techinc/creator expedtion vehicle moc. Bellvile is also a great source for parts. The bellvile cruise liner has so many usfull parts, its worth the buy, even if you don't like the set itself.

First off, i called his coments hypocritacal, whitch i'm sorry to say, are. You can't say that your against violence in lego, and sugjest lines that are equally as violent as the ones you apose. If Piranha took offence, i apoligize. Ok, then how come you can't do the same thing with modern military vehicles? I never said that a war theme, or anytype of military type theme had to focus on any countries. I never at any point sugjested that. You can have military type sets without putting country flags on them. It is possible. And if using "identifiable" military vehicles would be a problem, then don't. Again, why does this have to focus on American military? Using the Hummvee as a USC set was just a sujestion. And i never at any point sugjested that you have an Afghanistan vs. U.S. or any thing for that matter. Of course that would have contriversy and rightfully so. Your starting to jump to your own conclusions and never at any point was trying to glorify modern warfare. I'm simply trying to state that many peoples arguments that lego will never do a military line because its policy is that they won't do anything asociated with voilence, when many of there themes reek with them now. When this is brought up, people try and defend it by saying stuff like "Well, the pirates had smiliy faces,so it was ok." or "Batman and Starwars are license theme's and there make believe so its ok" so extremely poor. Violence is violence, no matter how you put it. I find that most of the time the excusses are made to defend the themes that currently have violence because there big fans of that paticular line. FYI, you don't need to live outside the U.S. to opose its military actions. Again, your jumping to your own conclusions. This was never a debate about the U.S.'s current military situation. I really, really sugjest you don't go there. It was never once sugjested by anyone that it be based on U.S. military, or ANY paticular military faction. Like i already said, hummvee's jeeps, and such are merrly just sugjestions for usc type sets. There's absolutly nothing wrong with these style sets. I'm not saying that this line wouldn't cause some people to rasie an eye brow or two. Heck, the Indie line is contrversial by itself. But if done right, i see no damage to lego.

New TECHNIC sets for 2008
5150 Lego replied to Conchas's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very good points. I'm atempting to make a live axle for one of my creator trucks, and its proving to be more difficult that than i thought to make it have adequet suspention flex and be strong at the same time. Hopfully we'll see a return of the pneumatic line in the future. Well see how these new actuators hold up under severe loads. Thats one thing the pneumatics were able to do quite well. -
So sea battles are ok, but wars on the land with tanks and helocopters are bad? Thats basicly what your saying. :-| And anyways, didn't they have a Red Baron USC type set? If so whats wrong with a Hummvee, Abrams Tank or other militray type USC vehicle? Heck, you don't even have to have guns on them. You can just have a troop carrier, militray police,or just a basic Hummvee or jeep. If people wanted to they could add weapons on themselfs. Anyways, nobody ever said that a "war" theme had to envole any two said countries. All we really want are some modern day Weaponary. You don't like that idea, than thats fine. But don't say that its wrong for lego to be assosiated with anything violent, when not only are there curently themes already associated with violence, (and you admit they are) but you sugjest theme's that are impelmented by war. You can try and defend it by calling them "Battles" :-| but the real deal is there the same thing. Um, this makes absolutley no sence at all. first you say.. Then you say... This makes no sence what so ever. Its ok for these lines to have wepons and be assaiated with viloence, but if it has modern vehicles, then its not ok? Geez, how more hipacritacall can you get. :-| Look,i'm not trying to pic a fight with you, nor am i trying to force my ideas on you. If you don't like the idea of modern day weaponary in Lego for whatever reason, thats your right. I just feel that there can be a happy meduim for everyone. I realize this is a touchy subject for some, but i like many know that this could be done. I know there are many out there that feel the same way i do (i might just be more verbal about it).

Just saw my first episode of TFA. (though i don't know if it was the very firstone everyone else saw) I have to saw *y* *y* . The episode i saw was the introduction of the dino bots. Very intertaining. At first i wasn't sure i liked the bot designs, but they fit very well with the over all layout of the cartoon. Good humor and action thoughout. Can't beilve that i'm say this, but i could see the basis of this working out in a movie. The character design themselfs would need to be reworked, but the personalities of the autobots could do very well in full lenth feature film. kudo's to the story writers. Looking forward to the next episode!

Cute. How exactly do they control him? I see a chain attached to his mouth, but no place for a rider.
-
No offense, but 2 of your ideas conradict your problem with a "war" theme. You say you don't believe that lego should have anything to do with killing, but you suggjest a pirates theme whitch basicly thriveonviolence and war,and of all things Red Baron?? A German Pilot that flew in World War one? Seems a bit hipacritacl. And yes while the Indie theme focus's on archeology, it still has plenty of voilence. As do the Star wars, and batman theme's. As for another idea, how about off roaders? You could have differnt type of off road trucks and jeeps with suspention systems. Rock crawler vehicles, transport trucks, a garage with a couple of service bays, and even an offroad RV.

Are you talking about the flick fire that are in the Imperial Star Destoyer? (those are the only ones i know about) Ifso,i think those are preety cool.
-
For those that missed the first new animated series episode, it will come on again tommorw at 10:30 am eastern timein the U.S. on Cartoon network. Hopfully its all to what people have been making it out to be.
-
Nice. Its enteresteing to see the differnce in European travel trailer or "caravans" compared to U.S. versions. Very nice moc!Lotsof detail inside, and out. Looks great!

x2 on the modern warfare theme. Lego has defenatly been testing these waters for some time now with different themes. I really think this is a strong possibility in the near future. Even if they don't have a Military style line, USC sets of military Hummvee's, jeeps, tanks and suck would could easily be done without ticking anyone off. Of coarse your going to have those that will say "Its never going to happen" but lets face it. A number of legos present theme's have violence pouring out of them, so to use the "Lego's policy is no voilence" doesn't fly anymore. i had an idea for a "spy" type theme many months ago. lego spies idea Many shot it down and said that it would never happen. Well, now we have an Agents theme that has very simular ideas that i proposed. Maybe Lego looks on this site for ideas, maybe it was just a quincadence. Alli know is that TLC is defenatly expanding there theme's to ideas that people thought TLC would never dare think of going.

Why do people complain about juniorization?
5150 Lego replied to Zuloon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Nowthats an impresive ship! Isn't that the ship that was in that Japanese Animei. Cartoon back in the 80's? Took place in the future, they rasied the Akimoto battle ship and converted it for space travel! never acttualy saw that Cartoon/Animei but always thought the ship was cool. -
Model Team: Police HQ
5150 Lego replied to Lasse D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
absolutley fantastic! I love all the details inside! Defenatly a police station on wheels! Only one thing i think you forgot was a jail. Either way, its still an exellent moc! -
I hear ya. Mine got a complete over haul my 4404 Man, for as expensive as this set is, it doesn't seem to have many features. Idon't mind mocing a set to fit my likings, but at that price you would think the basics would already be taken care of. :-/

Why do people complain about juniorization?
5150 Lego replied to Zuloon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I can understand that not everyone is going to like the larger sets. Personally, i didn't mind the Dino line. I bought the Attack Hellocopter cause i liked all the features it came with, but found out that it was to big for my (at the time) room layout, so i gave it to my friends Son. He loves it. Glad somone is able to enjoy it. :-) As far as the new Agents line goes, i never said that i liked it. As i said before, i'm with holding full judgment intill i see some better pics of the line. I'm not going to call a whole line a step in the wrong direction or horrible based on one blurry picture. :-| ( Not quoting anyone in paticular) If people don't like it because its to big for thier city than thats fine. But i think that many people on this site fail to realise that not every set is going to appeal to the AFOL. Large sets like this truck is sure to be a big hit with many younger kids. Not everyone cares if it will fit down thier city streets. Are you kidding me? Take a look at the second page of this thread again my friend. I also understand that not everyone has the same opinion about lego as i do. Opinions are always going to be differnt, and thats fine. I'm just simply expressing mine. I don't expect people to agree with me, nor do i try and force my opinion on anyone else. I just bought the new police mobile commmand center,(hopfully will have the review up by this weekend) and i have to say i was greatly disapointed with it. To be honest, its probbly the biggest disapoint iv'e ever built. :-( I'll go into more detail in my review. Aww. Another great example of another so-called "usless" piece being used in a moc! Very creative! -
Thanks for the nice coments guys. I'm going to re-design the rear suspention to make it stronger, and give it more flex. I'll take some pics when i tear it apart, and well as wehen its done!

Why do people complain about juniorization?
5150 Lego replied to Zuloon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Your not reading my post right. I understand that it isn't just a question of size. But i've found that some people seem to link size in certain themes (city being a good example) to be part of juniorization. The discussion on the new Agents theme is a good example. We've only seen one pic, and (its not even a good one) and many are labeling it as being to <insert that tiresome argument> because of its size. Like i said, i agree that the size of the parts used has more to do with juniorization than anything, but alot of people take it a bit to far. Just cause a set uses a 2x3 brick, instead od 3 1x2's doesn't mean the set, or part should be labeled as being <insert that tiresome argument>. Sorry, i should have been more clear that i was refering to larger sized sets in the city line. Abviously the USC falcon, and Cafe' corner wouldn't fall into those catagories since they are designed for AFOL,and are USC sets. Now here is a good example of finding use of these so called "<insert that tiresome argument> parts". What some might feel is useless, others can find good uses for it. Man, thoses were just horrible years for lego. I can't beilve that they would even lable thoses as sets. :-X lets hope that things never get that bad again.
