  1. Looks like you've had an awesome time building this! (minus the whole financing it part.) It is very impressive and I'm sure looks 10x better in person as a display piece. Good luck on completing it!
  2. Sam: Trust a Brandybuck and a Took. Merry: What? That was just a detour, a shortcut. Sam: Shortcut to what? Pippin: Mushrooms!
  3. That is some nice imagery! It is amazing what you can achieve just by playing around with a lighting source.
  4. I'm not sure if this MOC that I did would fall under the "Helm's Deep" header or not. It's Gandalf's Charge at the end of the battle. Here's the link, if you'd like to add it to your list. >>>http://www.flickr.com/photos/karlsonkreations/9229055828/
  5. I'd like to thank everybody for their replies and constructive criticism. In fact, I took all your ideas and updated this MOC. I'm still fairly new to building my own creations, so your ideas in each response help a lot. Here's some updated shots. I think I captured the scene much better this time around. Let me know what you think! (You can click each photo for a larger view.)
  6. If you'd like yet another (small) Riddles in the Dark MOC, you can add mine. That seems to the most popular Hobbit MOC as of yet! I plan to build a different one soon, though. http://www.flickr.co...ons/9203003496/
  7. One of my favorite scenes from The Two Towers is when Gandalf, Eomer, and the Rohirrim arrive at the battle of Helm's Deep to turn the tide. I've really been wanting to do a small-scale MOC of this scene, so I gave it a go today! Here's the scene for a quick reference: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ And here's my MOC! ...And now for some UPDATED SHOTS (based off constructive criticism)
  8. I really like this! Those archers were so well camouflaged that I didn't even see them until the 2nd photo. All the vegetation really makes this feel alive. Great work.
  9. The Tower of Orthanc arrived a few days ago (my birthday present this year, thankfully - that would have been a hefty wallet buster.) I spent a good five hours building it yesterday and finally found a spot for it today; it's easily my favorite display piece now and the flagship of the LotR line. Took a few shots of it just now. I'll probably rebuild the Orc Forge set to have a small Isengard diorama.
  10. I'd really like to see a Joker minifigure that depicts him from Batman: The Animated Series. It's never going to happen, but that's my favorite Joker for sure.
  11. Great work so far; keep it up! Is the party tree and grounds (where Bilbo has his 111th birthday) on your agenda anytime soon?
  12. This is one of the best MOC's I've seen yet. Very impressive work. I do have one question about some of these large-scale MOC's. How do you get most of your bricks; from other sets? Ordering them all separately? I'm still very new to building original works with Lego and often wonder how people acquire all their bricks. Thank you.
  13. I hope Dr. Kilroy doesn't get scalped.
  14. That African Grey Parrot perching above is going to steal the traveler's drumstick.
  15. To be fair, Gandalf is a roaming wizard that does as he pleases. His cape should have a crumpled appearance for strong authenticity.
  16. Very impressive work so far! This is the first Black Gate MOC that I've seen so far that has the additional larger towers on either side of the the gate. It looks really good and makes it feel more complete. I just have a couple suggestions (for what I would do if I were to continue the design.) First of all, I would agree that the rock face on each side could use just a little more work. The rocky outcroppings that connect the Black Gate to the two larger towers should extend a good halfway up the taller towers. An image would better illustrate what I'm referring to here. Alternatively, you could design it so that there is a larger wall connecting to each of the high towers with the rock face climbing into the center of that wall. Those are just a couple of my suggestions; I hope they prove to be helpful in some way. If I had the space I would definitely continue to expand my Black Gate as well to the level that you're seeking with the two larger towers, but I simply don't have the room for it! (Especially since the Tower of Orthanc will be arriving later this week - I still don't know where I'm going to put that monster!) Good luck with your MOC. Please post updated photos when you finish it!
  17. Fantastic work; Flawless details! I'm a huge fan of Batman:TAS - it was my go-to cartoon as a kid growing up. I'd love to see you recreate an episode that includes the Joker. Perhaps "The Laughing Fish" - one of my favorites.
  18. I never thought of taking a screenshot for the mural; great idea. Let me know how it turns out if you do so. Yes, I would really like an official Old Bilbo minifig (my ideal version would be a double-sided face with one normal and the other with his evil, transfixed gaze when he tries to seize the ring from Frodo.) Thanks! I'm not sure if you noticed or not, but in order to get my dwarves "seated" at the council I had to remove their legs entirely! I didn't know that there were articulated short legs available, so I'll definitely have a look into that.
  19. A few days late due to being busy on vacation, but I just ordered this monster! I'm so excited to build this and have Saruman rallying his Uruk-Hai army outside for the march to Helm's Deep. The only thing I'm worried about is where to display its magnificence... Everyone should post some photos of their Orthanc on display - that'd be pretty cool.
  20. A handful of customized Orcs... And footsoldiers of Middle-Earth...
  21. Great job and use of the new Native American minifigs! (My fav part is the scalping. What can I say? I'm a macabre guy.)
  22. Awesome! I just watched this movie again the other night and this MOC captures the feel in Lego form flawlessly. However, Bane clearly didn't have six-pack abs in the film! (But then again, you'd need bigger Lego arms to fit his physique anyhow, I suppose! ) I haven't purchased any of the Batman themed Lego sets, but this MOC really makes me want this base set now. Again, great job on this. I really like it.
  23. I think the Mirkwood Elves pursuing the escaped Dwarves scene makes perfect sense. The Mirkwood realm hates Dwarves and this beginning conflict between them will only escalate between the 2nd film and the 3rd film when all out war begins between all the races of Middle-Earth. (Battle of Five Armies)
  24. Yes, the gate trolls would have been a perfect addition. I would have also like to have seen the armored battle troll that nearly kills Aragorn during the final battle (which is also featured multiple times in the video game as well.) But then again, I'd like Easterlings, Haradrim, Shagrat, Gorbag... ahh, the list goes on and on. Just gotta keep my fingers crossed for a heavily Gondor-themed third wave of sets.
  25. When you put capes on minifigs, there is still a small slit that you can holster a bladed weapon into; just slide it in and it looks like a scabbard on the back.
