PROBLEMS: * if there is brick 4865 in a model BR stops giving error java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 1 * if there is brick 2607 (MAGNET HOLDER) in a model this brick is not rendered at all
-
Yea, in fact what I did was kind of the same except it is not done programatically rather "hard way" via applied not-deformable (this needs to be implemented) transparent .png texture consisting basically of right amount of inner shadowing on its borders...easy as that which is still better than nothing Such texture would be applied on all brick faces (5 faces on normal basic brick 2x4)...and this should be possible out of the box (ehm, OK, maybe not on all 5 faces unless @msx80 make apropriate update of the code but at least basic shader with texture could work, just like I did it with transparent glass shader with applied texture, that kind of thing)
-
EXACTLY - I am supporting this! BTW as of today I got a news that I probably found out another possible solution to the seams problem inspired by someonelses "edge shader" (or how it was named) BUT in my case it has nothing to do with shading (ehm, not in that kind of sense) and is even easier to do than shrinking, Calabar. Unfortunatelly I am not able testing it as BR does not support brick referencing so I could apply it to individual brick... And also for some reason I cannot test it even with textured diffuse/shinny shader as textures do not work anywhere except uber and glass shaders...

@msx80 How it is going, any news of actual development of things? BTW: with no other quick and easy option on the table at the moment having such an eminent need for it inside a BR LEGO community it could be quite fine having at least new check field in the BR GUI named "experimental simple pseudo-seams" for cases where pure "individual brick shrinking to its center by specified amount...like 0.006 for example" could be sufficient as a technique and it would not be any hard stuff to do for you (no fancy coding, just pure changing of brick dimension during initial loading of brick data) so whoever would try it and found it useful with his model could have seams while others would still need for complete solution to this + you/we all could still thinking furthermore about some other normal or better solution to the problem (as edge beveling would probably add more problems tho it would be the appropriate solution in this case with SunFlow way of code work), what do you think?

There you go...nice render! Now you can move camera in LDD even closer, much closer so the model occupies more of the rendered picture...

Right, now it looks much better. Solution to sinking: just open your model in LDD, grab it (CTRL+A on Windows OS) and drag it closer to front, to camera. That is: do not move camera view as it is almost OK, only drag the model itself towards front in LDD. Once you achieve good result (no sinking, visible gradient) you can then move your camera closer in LDD so the final rendered picture is ocuppied more by the model Simply you have to find right amount between model distance from the background (if the bg is too close the model will sink gradually into it) and camera angle so the background is actually still in focus.

"Easy find PORTABLE settings" - that is exactly the word I could not find in my head when I was describing what I mean, thanx Calabar.
-
As others said the color combi is quite good, I think it's original (or least there is no such combination in LEGO Space themes)
-
Nice, I like how you made those interiers and openings.
-
First: your LDD camera angle view is too high for the default z value of my gradient background so the bg is too far away from the camera. So all you have to do is: 1. change the camera angle in LDD a bit towards bottom 2. possibly move camera in LDD a tiny bit further backward 3. finaly: in the usersettings.inc change the z value for the background so it comes much closer to camera P.S.: as your model is quite small you could also try to play with the whole size of the background cos it might be too big for your actual model...remember: trying/playing with the values is the key here. Hope it helps, let me know then.

Right, in .ini, but having it there on the setting tab for not so technically/programatically "potent" ppl it may be a good idea. Yea, I like his model too - very good work , BUT as for its originality...hm, I don't know, to me - and I thought to everyone with a modest CS knowledge - it should be immediately clear that it is actually a modern variant of classic space set #6882-1. Why don't you put it directly to BR folder instead? Just asking cos finding that file in that particular direction is once again pain for average PC user whereas if it would be placed in BR folder they would find it immediatellylike for 99% of cases I guess. OK, that'd be super, BUT, please, if you can, add those essential stuff first, could you, please? BTW cool model...kind of modern version of one old CS set #6882-1, I like it - your additions to it pushed it a bit further, fine work indeed!

LDD or LDraw for a newbie
___ replied to Isundir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
As for the simplicity and most quickest results you should definitely go with LDD from LEGO. -
Exactly, I wanted to say it earlier that to me BR renders seem much more realistic than POV-Ray ones (OK, this may be highly individual but to me it just seem like that...I too switch to BR from POV-Ray mainly for its quick results...or at least being in the process of switching waiting for 2 or 3 things to be added for complete switch to BR). Do not be afraid of loosing sw's simplicity: that discussion is basically just about core details that any LEGO renderer should have, no new strange funcy stuff there As for your suggestions: yea, that would be nice, I was just yesterday thinking about asking @msx80 if he could make new tab where all these settings would be placed/moved (those 2 check fields of "rewriting" and "wireframing"), you know like what you say (width, height, anti aliasing) + user definable patch to .lif and LDRAW dir (haha in case he would be so kind and add LDRAW support to as it should be just about making importer, but most needed stuff first: lights transformed to camera position, logo-on-stud, brick seams )

How to apply custom decals on LDD renders
___ replied to BEAVeR's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Ehm, there actualy is, I made it possible but it seemed like ppl just do not care or something... Anyway if you are still interested in decorating bricks that are not decorable for model made made in LDD during POV-Ray render, here is my tutorial I made some time ago tho it did not get much attention for some reason: [POVRay] TUTORIAL: Make any LDD brick decorable! -
Interesting pod - does it has any functionality or is it just a stand for the firefly and nothing else?

That is a nice one render for a beginner -
With The Hound I see you are probably a big fan of DARPA projects, right?

Which editor to use with lDraw?

Yes, of course: you can render LCcad files with POV-Ray + the "special" library is called LGEO and its contained in LDRAW ALL-IN-ONE instalation file -
