2014 CREATOR Houses Sets - Rumours and Discussion
David Thomsen replied to Rick's topic in LEGO Town
I have to admit to being disappointed by the interiors as well... there's a lot more they could have done with a space even that small. The worst is the bike shop, which has a couple of tools and a ramp where I was expecting a workshop. The living space above the bike shop is okay, but still could have had a bit more. I still think I'll enjoy building these though, with eight individual room halves to build as well as exterior details. I know I could MOC more furniture, but Lego for me is stress relief and a distraction, something I can listen to music while I follow the instructions and think about other things. In spite of my disappointment at the interiors, I'm still going to get this and enjoy building it alongside the rest of my Creator town. -
Some of the parts I find most interesting... I do like the portrait of the classic Pirate Captain with classic parrot, even if it does seem to be a sticker. I'm glad to see the POTC globe being used again. But those two maps don't look like stickers to me... are they in any other sets? I'd bricklink them for my pirate swag collection, but I imagine if they're unique to this set they'll reach a relatively high price for 2x2 printed tiles... Also, what is that piece of equipment on the rear bench supposed to be?

They come in their packs pre-assembled, which usually suggests they are not made of higher quality lego pieces.

The Castle theme tends to recreate the same set ideas every time they 'reboot' the theme, I wonder if the same thing is likely to happen with the Pirates theme... there were definitely a lot of parallels between the 1989 pirates and the 2009 pirates. If that's the case we'll get a large pirate ship, a soldier fort, a pirate hideout, a small island, a raft etc. What I'd like to see though is more civilian sets, but unfortunately civilians don't turn up very often in the 'Good versus Evil' world that Lego have in their action themes. (I know pirates are technically the 'evil' faction, but I still think of them as the heroes somehow...) Maybe one way around this would be to have a 'Smugglers' theme, or something. The Smugglers would have more civilian-style ships and buildings, but with secret panels to hide smuggled cargo behind, and enough weapons to fight back against the Coats when they try to take the cargo. This is how the Smuggler's Ship could look, for example... it could one hull section shorter than than the Brickbeard's Bounty, but the shortness made up for by being slightly higher, with a fake deck maybe two bricks above the the hull pieces under which can be stored weapons and smuggled goods. The Brickbeard-sized ship in this theme would be the navy ship, and the D2C set could be the Harbour Town, with maybe an inn and a shipping supply store or something. (I need to stop thinking about possible future Pirate sets, it just makes me feel sad that they're not currently producing anything...)

2014 CREATOR Houses Sets - Rumours and Discussion

They don't seem to have anything but ladders inside the buildings, which gives me hope that they needed the space to give the buildings decent interior furnishings. I'm hoping that the seemingly small size of these buildings for the piece count is accounted for by what's on the inside. I think I can see a faucet in the window above the roller door. -
The Lego Movie Soundtrack Is Awesome
David Thomsen replied to David Thomsen's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Thanks Haltiamiela for the Spotify link! Sadly I'd never actually used Spotify before, or I would have looked there... listening to the whole tracks helps me know which ones I want from iTunes, but I'd already bought 'Escape' and 'Saloons and Wagons' based on the previews. Me to. Soundtracks let you relive the emotions of a movie when you're not actually watching the movie. I'm particularly fond of POTC music as well. -
Seriously, when I go to the Lego Movie Soundtrack page on iTunes and click 'preview all', and the music is way better than I imagined it could ever be. But you get that with Mark Mothersbaugh. Go and listen to 'Saloon and Wagons', for example. I wish I could link it on YouTube, or find some other website that has the music in full. And the 'Batman' tune is hilarious. Listen to the lyrics. Edit: I'm talking about the score by Mark Mothersbaugh, not the theme song 'Everything Is AWESOME!!!', regardless of what word I used in the heading.

2014 CREATOR Houses Sets - Rumours and Discussion
David Thomsen replied to Rick's topic in LEGO Town
Reading some of the comments here, I really wish TLC would release proper pictures of the set. Even without having seen the set properly, I know this one picture really, really doesn't do it justice. People complaining about the 'bike shop' only having one bike, when you can't even see the rear interior of the building... even if it only does have one bike, there's bound to be tools and accessories at the back of the store to make the shop seem substantial. Not to mention that the flat way the front halves of the building are shot gives the illusion of the buildings being half as large as they are. Seriously, TLC... probably best not to leave the first impression of new sets up to half-hearted photographers. -

I disagree... like all themes, Creator houses tend to have scale discrepancies. Look at the 'mountain' in the Mountain Hut set for example, and the floor space in these shops seems to be slightly larger than that of the Small Cottage, which contains a working 'home'. Even the Seaside House, if you ignore the balcony, has about the same floor size as these buildings. I'm fully willing to accept these shops into my Creator City. -

I think people are being a little unfair... for one thing, as I said, this isn't the best photograph, you really don't get an impression of the space inside the buildings. The front halves of the buildings don't show any depth at all. Secondly, this is a Creator set, not City or Modular, so the focus is on providing a good assortment of bricks for you to make what you want out of, design comes second to that which is why the vehicles always look a bit naff. Thirdly, I think one of the alternative builds includes the bricks from both buildings put together, so it might well be the be something larger and more in keeping with the modulars. -

Conversation about the 2014 Creator Houses has been officially moved over to the City forum, here: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=91177 Says Rick: Since I'm only really interested in the Houses in the Creator range, I guess that's where I'm going. -
2014 CREATOR Houses Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I need to see a lot more photos than this... you can't see inside the buildings, nor do you really get an impression of what the buildings look like closed up. You can't even see all of the minifigures, or anything really useful about the reverse half of the café building. I want to know what that weird little skylight looks like on the bike shop when the building is folded together, and what the deal is with that mini garage door on the ground floor. In short, this image more teases than interests me... -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

Or April 16th, if you live in New Zealand like me. Only found that out this morning, super lame. The clips don't really give much away, the cop is bad, the team is diverse, Lord Business is bad... Emmet likes to follow the instructions... and the submarine building montage is worth watching, over and over again...- 2,626 replies

Well this is a film I'm going to have to watch frame by frame... Looking at the crap in Lord Business' lair... eraser... FLOPPY DISK... white-out... bulldog clip... key... apple core... highlighter...- 2,626 replies

Actually I think it's a common enough scratching post colour, made of jute or cardboard or whatever. But the pink tip is indeed... unfortunate.

I've been wondering this too... have we seen the entire range of 2014 sets by now, or might there still be some surprises?

David Thomsen replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks! Wow, that actually does look a mini modular... impressed! Can't tell if they clip together like normal modulars, but the windows on the side of the buildings suggest that they weren't designed with that in mind. It would be interesting to have a series of mini-modulars for those like me without the time of space for the full modular range. I think these are more 'plain' than modulars would be too, with the basic Creator aesthetic rather than distinctive architectural designs. I don't think the white building is actually that wide, I think it's just folded out into a wall, while the yellow building is folded into a square. Perhaps a little misleading for the cover of a Lego set, but the reverse side would explain the function of the buildings and show the buildings in both modes. Either way, this set is exactly what I want from Lego... smaller than modulars, but more complex and interesting than City sets... thanks, Lego! Yeah, I'm pretty sure that bird is brick-built. And if I'm not mistaken, there's a barbecue on the roof of the bike ship... I'll add that to my collection of 10,000 Lego barbecues... -

Nope it's been taken down already. Oh well it can't be long now. Did the bike shop & cafe look like the detailed 'mini modular' they seemed to think it was over on Brickset? -
This is from the 'Behind The Scenes' video from the Lego Movie. I was hoping Pirate Cove would have more actual pirates, but we have two old pirates from the 2009 range, Disco Stu, The Flash, a witch, a mime... Medusa? And a couple of others I can't identify. I was intrigued by the torso that Metalbeard is wearing, but it seems to be the Pirate Captain torso from the Collectible minifigures. So now we know how to make a complete Metalbeard minifig...

News LEGO CREATOR 2014 News & Discussion
David Thomsen replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This from the London Toy Fair report on Brickset, on the three Creator sets coming out later in the year: I'm quite happy with the sound of this... it really sounds like they're taking Creator buildings to new places. Hopefully since these sets are appearing to the public now, we'll see pics soon? -
I don't collect all of the Castle sets, just the special ones like MMV and KJ, so I come here occasionally to check whether Lego are keeping up with their pattern of 'three years of Castle with a D2C set in the third year, and then start over'. Rumours of Castle sets in 2014 would suggest that maybe I'll get something special in 2015. Maybe like, a barracks of a medieval sailing ship, or a wide bridge with a market fair on it, or any number of things that people could speculate on endlessly. Reading the discussion about Kingdoms sets versus Castle sets from the last few pages, I have to say, comparing the equivalent sets between 2010 and 2013 as a relative outsider, and having not really studied them before, there is almost no difference between them. The only reason I would prefer the 2010 sets to the 2013 sets is the dragon in one of the latter sets, because I have never liked large figurines. Other than that, it baffles me why people think one year is superior to the other.
-
I originally said I was going to buy this set just to send a message that Lego Pirate sets will always sell, but I'm having second thoughts... it does look like incredible fun to build, but it doesn't belong with my other Pirate sets, so it'll be a stand-alone quasi-Pirate set in my collection. And at the price it's going to cost... if I'm going to get a stand-alone set, I'd get Benny's Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship, which is cheaper and functions as a nice nostalgia piece.

Thanks for that. Sounds like they're packing more and more details into these Creator buildings, I imagine it'll have three minifigs to staff the café, the bike shop and also have a customer in the car. Really glad I opted to buy these Creator city sets instead of the actual City sets... -

My guess is that one of the models will be a small school, which is the only other place I can think of that would have lots of bicycles.
