  1. What makes me happy is being historically accurate! I mean as much as it's possible to be with Pirate Lego. Which admittedly isn't much. I already have both the Actor and the Pirate Captain, so I know what it looks like... I think it would almost be okay if he wasn't wearing a ruff and a cravat at the same time.
  2. Okay... Mrs. Santa Bluecoat Soldier Dirndl Girl 'Flash Gordon'-type Space Hero Generic Superhero Jungle Girl Icarus Pyjama Girl Kick Scooter Guy Grunge Musician Crooner Paparazzo Android (like the robot, but more human in shape) Water-skier (with bar attached to string to attach to a boat) Schoolboy with apple and backpack Hipster
  3. Here's a fashion question for anyone who has a better idea of historic fashion than me... Can I take the ruff from this guy: And put it around the neck of this guy: ? The obvious answer is 'yes, this is Lego, you can do anything you like', but just in terms of what historically would make sense, is it suitable in any way? I just want this pirate captain to be distinctive in some way, since I already have one who is pretty much identical but has epaulettes.
  4. I think a female equivalent would be wearing a dirndl, not lederhosen... I know a few people don't like the new Pirate Captain, but I actually think he's perfect... I need a pirate to go in the brig of my Imperial Flagship, who better than a previous pirate captain?
  5. That's a pretty neat idea, and has a few other uses... space minifigs could use them for shoulder mounted laser cannons. Also for customised pauldrons. (spellchecker, how do you not know the word 'pauldron'? You are dismissed.) I think they'd have to be in transparent though, or black or brown...
  6. Hmm okay. Shark (5 points) Monkey (3 points) Turtle (3 points) Parrot (1 point) Fish (1 point) Crab (1 point)
  7. The name of this sounds like a kind of quasi-Asian quasi-Historic theme, and since we already have Ninjago, I doubt they'd launch into another similar idea. That makes me think it'll be some kind of Ninjago subtheme. If not, then I'll wait and see. It sounds like the sort of thing they'll have an animated series for, like Ninjago.
  8. Ever since I saw the Conquistador minifigure, and also the 'Hamlet' figure that could easily pass for an explorer like Sir Francis Drake, I've been daydreaming about an 'Age of Exploration' theme. It would be a great excuse for more new, pre-pirate-era sailing ships, with various European nations competing against each other for Aztec land. But there are others as well. 'Grandma Visitor' suggest a fairytale theme. 'Minotaur' suggests myths and legends. A lot of figures suggest various different historic eras, like 'Kimono Girl' and 'Roman Soldier' and 'Pharaoh'. There is also the Circus theme and the Music theme that a lot of figures fit in. Which Collectible Minifigure would you like to see developed into a proper theme? Edit: Okay, so my slightly lengthy subject line has been cut short. Can anyone fix it and/or summarise it?
  9. Ooh... nice. Although in one of the pictures I couldn't figure out why the robot was holding a croissant. I collect pirate, western and space themed minifigs, and this is the first series that satisfies all of those collections. I'm going to have to swap out the lasso for a gun, though. I think I'll start an 'age of exploration' theme as well. That would give me an excuse to pick up the Aztec from a previous series, the conquistador here, and if you take the skull away from the actor he could easily pass for Sir Francis Drake. I would love to build some older style ships for them. I probably won't get any of the others, but they have some great accessories. Santa's sack has a lot of uses. Hair with headphones, vinyl record, black bowler hat, various wings, newspaper, suit, diver... this is an excellent series.
  10. The Santa in the catalogue doesn't say anything about it being one of the minifigures... if half of the list we have is wrong, I suspect someone got confused and added the Santa from the advent calendar and the Vampire from Monster Hunters to the list.
  11. Wow... the mood has really deteriorated over the last couple of pages. Maybe we should all just sit and wait for actual pictures. I think that's definitely what I'm going to do before making any more comments. Remember that these are childrens' toys that are never going to match our personal wish-lists or expectations.
  12. I will actually getting more figures from this series than any other, so I'm very happy. I collect pirate, space and Western figures, so that gives me: I'm a bit disappointed by the repetition of a few figures of the other figures, but I never get all of the figures anyway.
  13. Some of them are veeery ambiguous, like 'trader'. What instantly springs to mind is someone like this: He would match the pirate nicely, but with the conquistador as well, I doubt they'd have three pirate themed characters. Unless the conquistador fits into some kind of 'age of exploration' theme, rather than 'pirates'. Also, vampire... what? Not only is it a collectable minifigure repeat, but we have Monster Fighters at the same time. I trust Grogall, but this seems like a typo to me. Unless it's like a Nosferatu-type vampire, rather than Dracula.
  14. I deleted the ones I found most implausible and couldn't think of anything else for. I think I'm most convinced by the Sheriff idea. We've had a cowboy, a bandit, a native American hunter and a chief, a sheriff seems almost inevitable. Personally, I'm hope that's what we get.
  15. The forestman from series one could very easily have been Robin Hood, instead his official name was 'Forestman'. I'd bet all of my pearl gold ingots that this character's official name is 'Pirate Captain'.
  16. I started writing my list a while ago, starting with 'pirate'. Of course, the first one we see is a pirate, so I can't really get points for it. Here are my guesses for the other 15: Fencer using the épée from the musketeer. White suit, mask. English Gentleman with black bowler hat and cane. Sport fan with baseball cap, giant pointing finger glove. Bluecoat Soldier Space Adventurer like the series one astronaut, but with swooshy handsome hair and maybe dramatic pointy shoulderpads. Sheriff Rice paddy farmer with conical hat, farming tool. Paintball player with paintball gun (including 1x1 round brick for paint cartridge that can be swapped with one of a different colour), torso with paint splatter. Plagiarist featuring Playmobil collectible figure designer. Bowler with round bowling ball piece, hollow on bottom so minifig can hold it. Three bowling pins. Astronomer with telescope. 1980s detective with Hawaiian shirt, gun, keys to Ferrari. Student featuring rings under eyes, textbook and Ramen noodles. Spanish explorer with neck ruff, telescope. Greek philosopher with I don't know an abacus or something.
  17. I never understood why all Pirate captains have an eye patch, a hook hand and a peg leg. If they're that careless, who would put them in charge of a ship?
  18. Really? Someone on the collectible minifigures forum said this, regarding NinjaGo Pirates: Not sure what to believe now. I guess I'll have to do what I'm supposed to do in these situations, which is to sit back and wait for the truth to reveal itself.
  19. You have to remember that there are three years worth of new children who were too young for the 2009 pirates line, so this might very well be their first pirate minifig. So why not give them something classic? Three years is about how long it takes them to 'renew' a theme, so it makes sense that there would be a new pirate captain minifig now.
  20. Finally, a collectible minifigure pirate. :moar: I was hoping when we saw a pirate that it wouldn't be a pirate captain, because I already have one of those, but still, pretty excellent. They don't often have a collectible minifigure in a staple theme like this without some kind of complimentary figure(s), so hopefully within a couple more series they'll give us a bluecoat soldier or something. Seriously, Lego, it took eight series to give us any pirate figures?
  21. I'm not going to be up all night doing this, but I'm going to quickly go through each series and do a tally of points. One point for a unique item that is duplicated in other minifigs in different colours. Two points For a unique item that is not repeated in different colours. One point for a minifig that has never been done before. I'm not going to give points for army building minifigs, because to me there is equal value in minifigs that can stand out as unique. I'm not going to show my tally because I ended up being less objective than I was hoping to be, but what I found was that, yes, six was the best series, followed by seven, four, and five. Two and three came fifth equal, with three having less unique minifigs and two having less unique parts. Series one came last by quite a long way, having the fewest unique minifigs and unique parts.
  22. I think the rules need to be a bit more objective. The 'lumberjack' has been listed as 'good', 'average' and 'poor', for example. For something like this, the ratings need to be almost unanimous. Either that or you need to get a lot of them and average them out. I might devise my own rating system later on. Need to eat now.
  23. I was thinking of incorporating my Ghostbusters models into my other displays, but I understand that it's a bad idea to cross the themes.
  24. I pretty much disregard information in these forums unless it is actual pictures of the series (and I haven't seen a fake series that fooled me for more than a second), or the information is coming from someone with a proven record for actually knowing about these things. Oh and mo123567, don't forget about the City figures.
