  1. If we do not consider the size, it is really hard to tell which is better. Both are very well designed, with nice features and very interesting parts. Well, if I were in your shoes, I would buy 8265. Not because it is more impressive or more interesting, but because it probably will be discontinued very soon. it has pneumatics !
  2. Hello everyone, Since August 2010 when I completed that MOC, I was asked instructions so many times for this model, that I finally took this request into account. This was possible thanks to the work of another TechLUG member, who has now become a friend IRL : Frousmoul. He took my Executor to his home, and he modeled it. That was a very long process for a 3100 part MOC (3118, precisely). Then, he did the steps. That was a very long process too. And after maaaaaaaaany hours of work, the instruction is complete. The price of the instruction is very symbolical : only 10€. Nevertheless, I you want to send a premium in order to reward the hundreds hours of work, to support that kind of work for the community, or any other reason that is important to you, it is of course much appreciated. To actually buy the instruction, PM me on Eurobricks, Youtube or FlickR. Or even better : email me at setechnic@gmail.com Enjoy !
  3. In the Lego Star Wars universe, speaking of scale is nonsense. You just do not care of the scale. You build a model. If you can put a minifig in it, then the model is minifig scaled. It's that simple. As for "UCS scale", if the model is very detailed, then the model is said "UCS scale". That's it. Here is a very simple example : 10179 is a minifig scale model. But 4504 too. Yet, both models do not do the same size. Indeed, 10179 is also UCS scaled. You see, in the Lego system, the scale is more a concept, an idea, than anything else.
  4. Exactly. That's how I proceeded too, in October.
  5. Yes, they tend to do so. But definitely not for the collector sets.
  6. oh yes, I like it a lot. A little bit more LBG would be nice. Nut other than that, I think it couldn't be better.
  7. Which does not mean that it is very well designed. I would not be surprised if 2 designers worked on that project. One did the nose and the cockpit. And another one did the back and the wings.
  8. Just buy regular 6 x 16 plates. It won't change anything...
  9. ... Of course yes. Yes, but : - I do not think I tweak them a little. I use some techniques from official sets (sometime not even from the SW theme) and other MOCers, and I bring my personnal touch to make nice UCS SW mdoels. - No matter how small an idea can be (sometimes it may just be a NPU), I always give credit.
  10. C'mon, it is just 2 of my TIE that have been massacred and put side by side. Doing nice MOCs and providing instruction + UCS display card to eventually see things like that is really heart breaking. As for the Cuusoo, I'm sarcastic, obviously. Everyone pay attention please. Notify the editors of the Oxford English Dictionary, the word MOC has been redefined to mean putting side by side 2 MOCs of someone else.
  11. What a massacre! *_* edit : This is not your MOC. But you should present it on the Cuusoo.
  12. I prefer the 10019. Its eleven engines at the back...
  13. This is IMO a weakness. It is too sleek. It has nearly no stud, and so, looks a bit like a cheap plastic toy. IMO, the UCS products are made to make profit (obviously), but also to promote the Lego brand. Indeed, if we consider all the Lego sets in all the Lego themes, the UCS products are among the most impressive regarding the design, the building techniques, the details, the wow factor, etc. Unfortunately, this UCS Shuttle just doesn't look like a Lego product. Well, it is still a great set. :)
  14. I'm working on a UCS model. Surprising, isn't it ?

    UCS Sets

Because those who made the poster are not Lego fan. They do not know much about Lego stuff.
  16. Thanks. My opinion : Given the part limitation, the model is pretty good. Indeed, it's hard to reproduce the curves of the Slave 1. But if I look at the model itself, I do not think it is an outstanding model. And this is precisely why I think TLG can not release a UCS Slave 1 (or at least not with the current parts). But we are not here to speak about my MOCs (whether they are good or not). My point is that, yes, people can enjoy their models, they can love them, and even be proud of them, but still, most of the MOCs we see on Cuusoo can not be real sets. Most of people there have no critical eye on their own work and think they can take advantage of the Cuusoo to make a MOC become a set. They are dreaming.
  17. I'm not snobby. ;-) I just think that I have a good critical eye regarding my work and other people work. Let's take another example, with one of my MOCs : the UCS Slave 1. People may like it. Or not. But : In what universe this MOC can make a good Lego set ? Don't you see how blocky it is ?
  18. Ideas ? TLG created Cuusoo for ideas ? There are already ideas EVERYWHERE on the Internet : Brickshelf, FlickR, Youtube, blogs, LUGs, forums, etc. Yes you are right. This is probably the price my podracer would have been sold. But wait a minute : how many people are willing to spend 400$/€ on a fan made model ? I do not consider the problem of licence given that I do not know a lot about that kind of things. But regarding the Lego model itself, this Delorean is pretty unimpressive compared to a real Lego set. Way too blocky. Oh, and by the way, I discover what MOC means on the Cuusoo : My Own Crap.
  19. Hi everyone, I've decided to remove my UCS Sebulba's podracer from the Cuusoo. Yes, my model has very few votes. But it's fine. I expected it not to make it at all. No matter how well executed it is, it is way too big to make it. I just put it on the Cuusoo to have a confirmation of what I thought. Now, I know how Cuusoo works. And I confess that I'm very disappointed (but not surprised at all). I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but 90% of the MOCs presented on the Cuusoo are crap. The 2 models which already made it (Shinkai #001 and Hayabusa #002) are pretty crappy. How hell is it possible to offer something that ugly to the Lego fans ? A kid with some skills can do something better. If you think I'm too severe regarding the quality of the MOCs people present, let me explain. The models presented on the Cuusoo aim at being real Lego sets. So, maybe MOCers on the Cuusoo do their best, but it seems it is not enough... The question people must answer is not : - Do the MOCer is my friend ? - Do I like the theme of that MOC ? No, the question people must answer is : Would this MOC make a nice Lego set ? In other words, people have to estimate the quality of the MOC (colors, design, build, details, size, feasibility, etc) and to compare this quality to the quality of a real Lego set. I take 2 examples (I do not know the people who create these MOCs, and in advance, I'm sorry if I hurt them) : - http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/96 - http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/2270 These projects are pretty well supported. But hell, look how poorly designed it is compared to a Lego set ??!? What would you say if Lego would design a Delorean like this in an official set ?? People would be outraged if TLG release an official of such a poor quality. :/ My point : Cuusoo was a nice idea. But it seems to be rather something created to promote the brand and not to offer nice fan models to the community. Eventually, it turns out to be a way for many people to flood with their crap. :/ Indeed, people become crazy when they think that one of their model can become an official set. In the end, Cuusoo will be nothing more than another Brickshelf, given that : - projects are not filtered (in order to remove the poor project) - some people are too proud and are dreaming regarding the quality of their models. PS : there are many MOCs worse than the 2 MOCs I selected.
  20. In another thread, there are some bargains, and the tittle is "Now for everyone". But in this thread, when I see the prices of these models, I would rather say "Not for everyone". re
  21. I can't afford to buy these new Dino sets, but I must say that they really rocks !!! I especially love the vehicles. TLG did a great job.
  22. Thanks for the replies. ;) I PM KDM Yesterday. :) I browsed their website. You had the cherry red in mind ? http://www.krylon.com/color/families/index.jsp
  23. Hi guys, I need to paint some parts that have never been produced by Lego in the right color. The color I need is dark red. Has anyone ever paint parts in that color ? If yes, what is the ref the spray you used ? Thanks a lot for your help !
  24. True. But actually, I was especially thinking to that :
