I kind of preferred the stylism of the original trilogy just because it was a lot easier to forgive the inconsistencies with the set-movie translation (why can't we have a green Skrall Shield whyyyyyyyy). But yeah, I'm still in for a 2D animated show.

Eh, I think it was just a change in style; 2010-2012 were all of a similar, unified design (based on Bink's old design) but then 2013 was all animations and whole-site loading and it was just awful. Hopefully the BIONICLE site retains some of the more elegant simplicities as opposed to excessive and unnecessary animations.

Meh, just a teaser site would be fine with me, maybe one that slowly fleshes out over the next few months. As long as they actually remember to update it. A lot of the sites these days are really animation-intensive, and I'm not a huge fan of that; Hero Factory actually went a lot simpler this year, and was all the better for it.

hey guys don't forget about hero factory

Watch it not be BIONICLE, and they're actually masterful trolls. Brown was never a top seller, so they made the switch to keetorange/orange after 2006 to try and boost the sales.

He's already brown. Isn't that his defining, primary color? And it's more prominent than the orange in his 08 incarnation. I'm more concerned with the asymmetry and color layering than I am him being silver.

Depends on if the gold armor he's wearing is the same "golden armor" from the 2010 storyline, or if it's just gold colored armor. (one of the many reasons why it's going to be a reboot)

That was an apparently VERY last minute plot change (like, several days before the game was supposed to go online) overriding what was otherwise a peaceful resolution. Not Hero Factory's finest moment, sure, but BIONICLE wasn't all roses either. POINT BEING let's not have a lack of Gen1ers at the expense of people getting all snooty about BIONICLE being better than Hero Factory. It's a shame the two lines apparently can't coexist, although that would probably encourage further unfavorable comparisons of the two anyway.

(I was being serious, but I'm pretty lax when it comes to tone, so it was, shall we say, a half-joke) (Also I disagree with the Hero Factory thing, at least in its first year; the whole point WAS that proving worth by actions is better than being titled in name only) BESIDES THAT It's obviously still possible/likely that they have elemental powers and that's not even what the titles are referring to at all, or maybe Lewa had an element swap, or any number of possibilities. Just because we're used to BIONICLE being a certain way doesn't mean it won't change for the new wave, yeh? I'd say the mask powers, if anything, are more likely to be cut than elemental powers, but the golden masks suggest otherwise.

Well, we've been taking it as that meaning because it plays well into what we're accustomed to. But Master could easily refer to them just being the rulers of their respective dominion, thereby creating a ranking system that the Protectors also fall under.

I was more referring to where people of rational and open minds gather. Y'know, the opposite of that. That's deep, bro. Real deep.

I remember seeing a cool potential explanation that Takanuva kept his coloring as a reminder of the dark experiences he went through in Karda Nui. I also remember being the one to make up said explanation. Instead there was some baloney about silver being less visible than gold in the desert that got accepted. I'd love to see Takanuva back, but I do feel like he needs to earn his spot. The whole Power Rangers vibe of 2003 was one of my favorite parts (in what was already a standout half-year), so I think it would be more to introduce him as a plot point unto himself rather than just being another dude.

Probably because he doesn't know; he wrote the books (and scripted the comics, once upon a time), but didn't have much to do with the overall direction of the story. I'll still miss Hero Factory :<

Maybe the smaller Master sets don't have gear functions? (On mobile, so can't really reference pics) Just never been a fan, since it makes them good for holding poses, but tough to change poses without having to reattach something (Black Phantom's gangly limbs are the most egregious offender of this). That said, I could see it working really well with gear functions.

This was my first thought; it'd be a cool way to incorporate functions with CCBS (although I imagine they'd want to use friction joints, which I'm not overly fond of).

You know, I gotta say, despite the use of CCBS and the collective fear of Gen1ers (or whatever variation of the term pleases you most), I haven't seen too much "BIONICLE was better in my day!". Obviously that'll change the further we get into the line, but I see more people putting down the hypothetical of gen1ers than I actually see people making the complaint.

That's what I'm hoping for, for sure! Even if they aren't "canon" per se, I'd love to see them do combiners with the old Kaita combinations, as a throwback.

Speaking of exposed axles, I notice that a some of these sets go out of their way to cover up axles, primarily on weapons and things. It's an interesting design choice, and makes you wonder if there's an additional use for the parts.

#clubonua Also, I notice that all of the Defenders (except for Stone...) have a second skull spider included on the package image, though slightly obscured. Does the piece count back this up, or is it just imagery?

I'd rather not, since that term came out of nowhere and will make it that much harder for other, more official terms to catch on when we get them. Edit: Also, I totally expect Onua to look exactly as he does now but people will have a total change of heart and start loving him once the sets actually come out. I've seen it before, and I'll see it again. Some things don't change.

Y'know, now that we've seen the skull spider renders without color... I kinda want a silver version too =P. Also the mask on Fire Defender has some sort of yellowish tips? Also also Kopaka has an ice hand? (whoop)

I wouldn't say that necessarily confirms a reboot one way or the other; first of all, there's the odd "Krata" spelling, but even then, the story has been known to take some twists and turns, so I could see them accommodating something with a name deviation.

My local stores stock them all, so I'm clearly not a good statistic :U It is a shame that we're unlikely to get more Hero Factory. I'd have liked to see some of this year's polybags at least; maybe around the holiday times...
-
There's usually leaks around this time, and the sets are usually released with an expected date of January 1, so some retailers may get them/release them early.
