  1. Invasion From Below I got that vibe, but given the magnitude of BA's ending (coupled with the mysterious villain at the beginning of the episode who is supposed to be the same one from the end of Breakout) I was expecting a little bit more in terms of resolution. Really, I'd just like to see another guidebook, but that's neither here nor there. It's funny, because a lot of people actually say that BIONICLE might have been better ending in 2008 as opposed to dragging its heels to a final confrontation (which we were lucky enough to get!). Closure works is mysterious ways, sometimes. An increasingly convoluted lore was one of things that killed the brand, and why we shouldn't expect a repeat of that strategy. And I would argue BIONICLE's theme is pretty muddled; sure there's the perennial struggle of good vs evil, but not only is that generic, I would say Hero Factory embodied that much more distinctly. As for a strong written narrative, yeah, I guess it did; that's what the audience at the time wanted. HF tried dipping its toes into that, and it didn't work out for them.
  2. Oh, have we gotten to the "BIONICLE is better than Hero Factory" point? Hooray! If HF is ending this year, it's a shame. There's a lot of loose ends they needed to tie up, and I think just because it was meant to sort of cycle people in and out every year doesn't mean there aren't people who have followed it from the beginning. Hopefully they'll find a way to work things out (again, if true; I believe HF is ending as much as I believe BIONICLE is coming back, which is to say there's no convincing evidence yet :D).
  3. Might have had to do with the delayed line(s); spring is fairly low point for retail in general. We'll see if this late release strategy paid off for them... Also much love for the updated shop pages and their amount of images; quite frankly, I didn't expect it, since the past two years have been just box images and the box image pose on a white background. Any additional views need to be gleaned from outside sites. Hopefully they continue this trend.
  4. I wouldn't mind Faber being involved, if only for his stunning concept work and art, but seeing the franchise through fresh eyes sounds most appreciable to me. Besides, I'm really intrigued by his current story work, and I'd like to see what becomes of that =P. Also yeah... probably Minecraft. Still weird that it's unlabeled.
  5. I'm not going to pretend to understand the physics of a robot chest exploding outward, but the point was that a lot of them didn't actually survive, which is why it was so traumatizing. As I've said before, if there is going to be a reboot, I'd prefer a fresh hand on it just on principle.
  6. Looks like the site is more or less fully updated, although I'd like to see a new background at some point. Bulk's back to being a dumb-dumb, I see.
  7. I wouldn't call it a "theory" so much as a "wish"; we don't even know if these "Defenders" are Matoran (or even if that term would be used at all going forward). I'd love to see mask packs return in some form or another, but a lot of their prior collectability had to do with how sets were designed around knocking them off, specifically; as soon as that was off the table, when you stopped seeing those kinds of functions, masks evolved into their current axle-based incarnation (which had impressive staying power in its own right, 2006's weird experiment notwithstanding). Unless there's a specific functional use for the masks, I doubt it would see much of a set emphasis on them beyond the usual. That is, of course, assuming there hasn't been some kind of shift in how masks/helmets are looked at; we didn't have any at all this year in Hero Factory, so perhaps there's some new kind of system in mind? Seems a shame not to revisit the all-purpose head we got in 2013...
  8. But who's to say what "needs" changing and what doesn't? A brand new universe shouldn't play by the same rules as the old one, otherwise there isn't much of a point in retooling anything in the first place. Obviously good story, writing, character development, etc. are all really important, but a change in gender would not negatively impact any of those things, and in fact open up new avenues for people who were perhaps turned off by the previous incarnation.
  9. But even if they are the "same" characters just in a different context (alternate universe, reboot, whatever) why shouldn't they be different? I'm sure some people would just like the exact same thing we had before for another ten years, but I'd love to see some fresh takes on characters, and a gender swap certainly could accomplish that.
  10. But it wouldn't be "changing it for the sake of change", it would be changing it so that going forward there is more equal gender representation (assuming they are new/rebooted characters).
  11. Every year I ask if I can win prizes, and every year I get told no. I demand recompense! (also I'll probably be there)
  12. YES I DID (ugh Fury Mode is killing me). I mean, did people really not expect fakes trying to be passed off as leaks (since that's what the original images look like :U)? That was a given. Some lazier ones, in this case; a solid black background is hilarious. As for HF being canceled, it's always had a pretty sparse showing in the magazine. Normally there's some kind of supplemental material as well (comics, books, whatever) but a lot of that hasn't been as well-received, so I think they put a lot of the focus towards the episode this year. Chima has always been a stronger seller in large part because it is a System line; Technic (or constraction, to specify in our case) has always been more niche, including BIONICLE back in the day. Quite frankly, two spreads is more than we normally get, not to mention it's still at the halfway point; a comic or some extra HF material is likely to come in the next issue or two. That isn't to say they won't cancel it, but the magazine appearances have never been intensive, so I wouldn't take it as any kind of sign.
  13. I still don't think Voltix was that bad. I mean there were a LOT of colors, but they balanced surprisingly well.
  14. I feel like the flirty subtexts were more of an overarching thing and that Greg didn't have much say in them (and I don't remember nearly as much of that behavior in the comics). And personally, I wasn't a big fan; it came off as very forced. Hewkii and Makau, on the other hand, were adorable. And even HF has had some pointed mentions of romance; Breez (as the token female, natch) is always telling the media that she has no romantic interest in any of her male teammates, though that doesn't stop Nex from having an unrequited crush. I think that in and of itself was actually fairly well handled; it's an interesting slice of self-examination by way of critique of the media (and shippers). As for the female Thor, it's an apparently pre-existing character who is taking "Thor" as a title, because the actual Thor is no longer worthy of wielding Mjolnir (but he's still around, and will have his own series as well). So not necessarily a gender-bend, but interesting nonetheless.
  15. It's not broken, per se, I guess I'm just a bit disappointed that HF couldn't quite manage their team numbers by the end of it (then again, they were working with 9, so it's not too surprising). Just that it gets a bit unwieldy in the story when having to deal with that many; it worked in the earlier years, where each individual had something to do, but some of the later stories suffered by not having enough time to devote to everyone (I'm looking at you, 2009).
  16. I don't remember hearing that at all (then again, I'm STILL getting used to them being "Bo-Matoran"...), but we'd probably be looking at another Orde debacle if so. Might have been something Greg mentioned offhand in the LMB topic, but to the best of my knowledge that was never really going to be the case.
  17. I'd love it if they did away with the "rule of 6", personally, but then again it didn't work out too well for Hero Factory... as long as the characters wouldn't fall by the wayside, it'd be good. I mean, to the common consumer at this point BIONiCLE is a pretty unknown quantity; throw out the rulebook, I say, write a new one.
  18. I didn't read the initial post as being so incredibly dismissive, but I'll admit I'm not the finest judge on that. The reply to it, on the other hand, was uncalled for. If we do want to have a discussion on equality and treating everyone with respect, shouldn't it start by treating each other with respect? We can have a conversation without the rhetoric. I believe that. As for this being relevant to the topic... I do think it is. The set leaks we're discussing have an unknown gender variable. If we're going to talk about how their masks might resemble their former selves, it's relevant to talk about if they'll still have the same gender =P. How this (purported) future line compares to the old one is half of what this topic is about, after all. (that said... the Hau in that image is certainly recognizable enough as a Hau. If they are doing a return of all the characters, it's likely they'll resemble their old selves.)
  19. It's that shouting match mentality that IS detrimental to the point you were making. I'd love a salient discussion on how BIONICLE (and LEGO as a whole, if it's relevant) should be more gender inclusive and representative. It should be. Nobody is disputing that fact. But the holier-than-thou attitude is not conducive TO said discussion. If we want to have a mature discussion about it, we should be mature about it. Condescension and snark do not contribute to a mature discussion. Let's start over: I, personally, didn't think BIONICLE's gender divide was bad on its face, but the execution was terrible. Among other things, they deliberately tied certain traits based on the element to the gender, and they didn't include nearly enough female genders. Now you.
  20. I was talking about Micheal Bay with someone earlier and what a BIONICLE movie directed by him would look like. I'd totally be okay with it :U And it's certainly not my intent to call him a liar, but the sketchiness of these "sources" in general always works against them. None of the pieces of evidence I've seen thus far have been convincing (maybe a few, but for the sake of my point...); as I mentioned, my belief on the status of BIONICLE returning or not has absolutely no bearing on whether or not it does (duh), but blurry pics and someone claiming they have something while simultaneously not being able to offer any concrete proof does not make a compelling argument. If and when BIONICLE returns, I'll be as happy as the rest of you lot; I'm just of a more skeptical mindset is all =P. (also, I still have the Russian article open if that's of any relevance, although I think it's been copied out earlier in the topic)
  21. You're assuming snark is always valid, even though yours was an unnecessary and openly hostile verbal attack. Just because your point is right doesn't make the way you present yourself right as well. Well, he did compare it to 4chan... (I jest, I jest) A "source" that appears several days after the numbers and is just a text-based list? Fakeable, if not necessarily faked.
  22. Use of feminine pronouns, as it were. I was going to say "female voice actors" as well, but I realized there's a few exceptions =P.
  23. Regardless of the validity of his points or of yours, that snark is entirely counterintuitive and is precisely why we can't have meaningful discussion (and why BZP wouldn't even allow talking of it at all back in the day, if you'll recall). Nobody wins in this conversation.
  24. Hey, the evidence presented was sketchy at best; still is, in fact =P.
  25. The Element Lords were never sets, but the artistic depiction definitely showed them as being bigger than Agori.
