I'm still a bit skeptical on the return part... it says "new" immediately followed by "back", so that's just a confusing statement regardless =P. I'm actually most intrigued by the "dark forces" line; if the MOUP was really just supposed to be a super powerful elemental mask... what made it turn evil? Sounds like there's more going on. Anyway, useful press release, confirms a few facts, which is nice. The box comics on the sets also depict a lot of the characters in their product poses... I genuinely don't see why anybody would have a problem with these comics, it's only older fans I've seen who have some sort of weird hangup about it. It's just another comic from a line that's known to be multifaceted in media. Anyway, for anybody who's better versed in French than I (it's been a few years since I was fluent) could you ask those guys for some scans? I'd love to have the image, especially since they're different than the ones we've already seen. The storyboards too, they're neat.

I suppose I meant more along the lines of "as we've envisioned him". Hero Factory often showed versions of the sets that were "buildable" but weren't available as sets. While this is most likely Ekimu (although I'm still on board for Takanuva 2.0) some of the stuff we saw in the animations could easily just be for show (and heck, we might never get a good Makuta set in the end).

We haven't seen that piece in ages, so I doubt that was their inspiration. Even if the Ekimu set doesn't actually exist at all (a possibility) his animation form would still be based on parts used in BIONICLE.

I like the second one better, with the lighter blue. Matches the animations and just looks nicer to boot. (The cynical part in me wants to say they're including it specifically because the "mask maker" figure is so small, so it creates visual consistency with the Protectors)

The only thing I'm taking away from all of this is the possibility of a gold-blue Protector mask, because mmm mm that would be nice. Especially since you know they'll release the Mask of Creation too.

They said "panel" when referring to the parts, so I would assume the shell add-on, yeah. It sounds really neat.

Looking forward to seeing them in person. Considering how bright everything has been lately, I'm weirdly excited to get some more menacing villains.

I appreciate a more measured response. They didn't really understand the line in the beginning; it peaked in 2002 and they literally tried cloning the success for 2003. Makes sense that they're being more cautious with the new wave. Constraction is niche, but it does what it's supposed to, and they know what they want it to do. I think it'll be a good year.

I try not to compare them directly to titans, since there have been a fair amount of price increases since then. And even then; Axonn didn't have a gearbox. All of these Toa have unique and varied builds (heck, so do the protectors!), and it's how the system evolves that it shows its complexity. CCBS isn't literally just bone pieces, it's everything that goes with it, and how useful the system can be and is. I think I made the point fine; I was saying that BIONICLE G1 pieces were highly specialized, which lent themselves to specialized builds. There's a reason the "Inika build" lasted so long, and it's because you could only do so much with it (granted, that didn't necessarily reach its full potential either). With CCBS, there's a lot of versatility in the parts themselves, which result in more unique and varied looks.

London Toyfair, eh? Pics or it didn't happen! Also, on the topic of CCBS, I think these sets are miles and away more complex than things we got from BIONICLE G1, large sets aside. Ultimately there's a lot of similarities; reused bone pieces, similar body designs, etc. The difference is that CCBS is designed to do all of those things and then add on further; it's so customizable and versatile, whereas BIONICLE created very unique, individual character designs that couldn't apply anywhere else. Obviously we haven't gotten anything resembling something as grandiose as the Axalara T9, or the Manas (yet) but CCBS can be incredibly inventive regardless. I'm looking forward to these summer sets, and whatever comes after.

Personally I'm a bit tired of the "teamwork" shtick, having gone through every variation of that with BIONICLE and Hero Factory. But it does make for good introductions, and will provide a more interesting counterpoint assuming we get a second team and they have to go through their own version. If we just stick with this team, though, I'd rather just get the formalities out of the way as soon as possible and get to the meat.

That... would be a pretty amazing G1 throwback all right. (Yeah, March, according to leaked documents)

Since they're trying to avoid too many new terms, it seems, I'm not terribly surprised. It still is the Mask of Time =P. Hopefully this means the new Mask of Time will make an appearance soon.

That's... really not ambiguous at all? They want us to spot the easter eggs, and they're just making a game out of it. If they're going to connect the universes, they'd probably make a big deal out of it.

Personally the constant dissection of fuzzy images (or in this case, non-existent ones) bores me to tears anyway. Especially when we have to keep pestering some random person to recollect in exact detail what they saw. I'm content to wait until ToyFair to begin discussing the sets proper.

Battle for the Gold Mask Semi-finalists and Winner
Dorek replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Thanks for giving us your take on it VBBN. Learning process indeed, is what it sounds like. Don't know if a community vote would have necessarily resulted in anything different (although given the reactions, maybe I'm underestimating the community!), but it's something I'd still like to see more of in the future. Hopefully they do more contests in the future! -
Built LOSS. Pretty neat, although a little dopey. The function itself is really interesting, but when it comes together, you wish it could be a little more. If it's any indication on what summer sets will be like in terms of complexity and function, I'm looking forward to it.

Got my LOSS set in the mail! Box was a little beat up, but they include the card that was given out at NYCC, so it's a good package. Gonna build him now.

Neither :U. Just another bizarre attempt to connect the two universes. Personally, I don't particularly want Makuta to find "redemption" of any sort. It would be a nice divergence from his Generation 1 counterpart, but one of the strengths of the old story was the constant villain. Makuta was always there and when he wasn't there, it was suspicious. Obviously the MOUP contains some sort of corrupting influence, but much like the Teridax of Gen 1, it was Makuta's feelings of resentment and jealousy that caused him to lash out and do something bad. I like to think there's more to Ekimu and Makuta's story than just "Ekimu was better", the same way Mata Nui turned out to be aloof and dispassionate, and not necessarily the benevolent god everybody thought he was.

I hope the next episode is not a montage, but it probably will be. I want to get into the meat of things, beyond what we've seen in the trailers and the promo art. Them acquiring the Golden Masks is certainly a focus, yeah, but what happens AFTER that? What do they do with these masks, where does LOSS come in, do they actually "power up" with the Protectors? That kind of stuff.

I don't really see what the problem with the website is. It's not the most streamlined, especially compared to the days of yore, but all the pertinent information is there in an accessible format. Works just fine for me.

Yeah, I thought that was a bit odd too. Oh well. Lewa confirmed for evil, amirite? That one, that I uploaded, was actually labeled as "mobile" and they had a longer version for the web browser banner, although still with the annoying play button. Don't remember seeing it as a highlight before then, but I don't check every day. Glad I managed to grab them before they took them down. It's definitely LOSS in the corner, although the resemblance to the official key art must be deliberate.

... Iiiiiinteresting. I was more focusing on what I guess is the "nostril" part which sort of looks like a stylized Mask of Creation (or perhaps something else!) but now I see what you're getting at... huh.

Battle for the Gold Mask Semi-finalists and Winner
Dorek replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
More or less what I mentioned that I hoped wouldn't happen. It's hard to find the balance, I guess; the people most interested in the contest would be the people from the old generation, not necessarily newbies, and at some point you have to draw the line between enthusiasm and skill. That said, I do wish something like Terror Bite, with a bit more personality, had won. Not that it's a bad MoC by any standards; Roa has always been an incredible MoCist, and is hardly undeserving of the win. I hope she enjoys the new mask, whatever she plans on doing with it.
