  1. Oh, sorry, I was totally vague in that wasn't I? I meant the looming mask in the winter promos, usually behind LOSS. This one. The Skull mask from the summer preview in the insert (which they still haven't fixed on lego.com despite me emailing them about it grrr) is totally Grinder/Warrior.
  2. While I do quite like that way of thinking, I guess I'm just hoping for some deeper meaning than just a cute visual trick. Also, it does seem like the Skull Basher/Scorpio mask might actually be the dark image from the previews... although it's odd because that mask is clearly black. Exclusive, maybe? =P.
  3. Oh man am I excited for these sets. Honestly, the only disappointing part is Skull Slicer's re-use of the Skull Spider mask; hopefully that plays into it somehow, rather than him just having that as a face, although it is convenient. Still, they could have at least given us gunmetal or some new color.
  4. Yeah, but a video usually isn't a substitute for high quality photos. New York has typically been where we get the best look at sets (before the finalized images start coming out anyway).
  5. I tend to buy the other constraction subthemes sparingly, but these have some potential if they look anything like the mock-ups that we've seen. I'd be in for a Greivous figure, easily.
  6. We don't always see store exclusives at ToyFair, but it's also been five years since constraction HAD a store exclusive; it'd be something nice to see, but I'm not holding my breath.
  7. I think it's more that people are either A. going into it with some preconceived biases about the sets themselves, or more likely B. That people are making snap decisions based on blurry or preliminary pictures. The things people say they like are usually more vague in nature; theme, cohesiveness, etc. while the things people say they don't like are very often specific elements that they turn out to be wrong about. Not to mention people who have been around long enough know the fluctuation of fanbase opinion well enough to disregard it. The majority of people who go "omg ew" as their first reaction almost always start to find positives once they get a clearer picture. I'm sure there's a study to be done on this. Obviously people can and will dislike certain things about the set (there's also the forum culture aspect of "what do you do when you have nothing to say about the sets that isn't a criticism") and that's fine. As you say, we're entitled to our opinions, and to share those opinions. But these opinions have often proven themselves to be fickle and changeable, so you'll forgive if people are maybe a little more skeptical that these beliefs are ironclad. They've been doing this for years with other parts, I wasn't surprised to see it in HF (although I was surprised to see them make the switch halfway through HF to the reverse colors). It's like any kind of construction project, you need ways of distinguishing the parts otherwise people can get confused.
  8. I'm really excited for the sets, myself. They're just so... BIONICLE, y'know? I'm loving the Skull theme.
  9. Blended Toa Masks of Power? Be still my beating heart.
  10. Mmm, that Ninjago Dragon, though... sexy.
  11. Although it's been happening way before Black Phantom I heartily approve of calling it this anyway. Anyway, I'm not surprised the videos got taken down; they obviously weren't supposed to be released this early. If you checked the writer's twitter, he had a few humorous posts about them being leaks. And finally, still loving Ekimu and Skull Grinder, and glad the MoCr has some glow effects added; it looked a bit out of place in the first pic. Edit: Although I just noticed, no more chains! That's sad >:
  12. Knew the Trans-Orange mask would show up eventually. A pretty sweet deal regardless; snag a few extra copies just in case it's unique ;)
  13. The way the mask was presented I could see it easily not making an appearance. It's just an item that helps LOSS control the army; some background info would be nice, but its function is apparent even without it appearing. Hah
  14. That look on Tahu's face is priceless. I ship Onahu. Tanua?
  15. Hrm... LEGO added the BIONICLE magazine insert online, but the actual magazine displayed is something else. Hopefully they fix that, since I'd love to get some of the stuff there in higher quality.
  16. I gotta say, I like how the Mask of Creation goes from being regal and upright in all of the promotional imagery in the winter wave to captured and in peril when it's actually in a set. That could change with the box art, but it reinforces my "not everything is sunshine and rainbows" belief =P.
  17. Just a note on this, people said that it might be placeholder because the were surprised to see an old BIONICLE piece that hasn't been in use for five years. I'm sure there are other examples of people claiming preliminary for no reason, but there was enough strangeness about the Guurahk staff being included to give pause. To date I still don't understand why they chose that piece to just include a few random times, but obviously they did.
  18. We'll just pretend I totally haven't started :U Also, could they upload the Lewa storyboard one? They seem to have Onua's in its place.
  19. Circle of life guys. Leaked pics come out, people complain, people start to come around, finalized pics come out, people complain again, people come around again. Thank god we're not the target audience.
  20. Thanks for not forgetting about these! Don't want them to get buried in the new set hype. I'll be uploading them to BS01, iffin you don't mind... (also I like Skull Scorpio precisely BECAUSE his tail design is so weird. It'll be a neat grabbing function.)
  21. And a good morning to you all too. Some casual thoughts: 1. I'm assuming the masks are preliminary, and not just re-releases of the Toa's golden masks? 2. The 2x1 brick outline, along with the pedestal in MM v SG, make me think we might get some kind of stand in each set? 3. Loving all of the scenery bits in MM v SG 4. No skull spiders from what I see, but four-arms has a skull spider face? 5. A lot of the skulls remind me of Witch Doctor... not that it's necessarily bad, but I was hoping for something a little more unique. 6. A bit jumbled and weirdly colored overall, but A. these are preliminary, and B. I'm okay with some bonkers decisions every now and again. Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder is clearly going to be the best set of the lot, but I'm looking forward to getting my hands on all of these.
  22. Nuts, I took a shortcut with the images, didn't pay off. The Protectors gallery should explain what I'm talking about. Dum!Dum!'s style is slightly more exaggerated, but they're often the same poses down to the letter. The other comics are just less stylized and more direct. Both contain a unique art style as it is anyway, so I'm perfectly okay with getting more of the European versions.
  23. Gang on the loose. Nothing you can do. (No but seriously it was basically everything else about 2006. The constant use of death, the fact that the Piraka are a "gang", etc.)
  24. I don't think people are trying to make it dark; on the contrary, I think a lot of people are expecting it to be very lighthearted, when in fact the premise and atmosphere are less sunny (literally and figuratively) than people are giving it credit for. It's obviously got a campy edge to it (the dialogue makes that perfectly clear), which makes it a blast to watch, but the overall premise of BIONICLE has often been straightforward and serious; six heroes trying to save the world from an emerging darkness. It doesn't have to be light or dark; a good story will have nuances of both. So far, it seems to be working pretty well. This summer looks to be taking on a slightly darker tone; nobody is trying to project that, it's what we're being told.
  25. Hooray! Maybe I should have actually read the post =P. I'd like the storyboards too, if they can. I collect that kind of stuff. Didn't know the others were stickers, though, that's weird. Neat though. PoF comic and PoF set PoI comic and PoI set PoJ comic and PoJ set These are the more egregious examples. I feel like that's mostly just a byproduct of the almost chibi-like nature of the Dum!Dum! animations (which I also love, for the record). The descriptions and the BIONICLE homepage make everything look pretty damn dark, and now the confirmation of scary skull villains for the summer makes me think that the sunshine and rainbows that people were expecting is more wishful thinking. I don't think it will get needlessly dark, that said (as much as I love the Piraka, they did take it overboard) but maybe more like 2005 levels of dark. Oh god yes. I'd be disappointed if we didn't see some kind of HF reference in the future, actually. I mean, they do just leap straight from HF to BIONICLE G2.
