1. You know... with the shoulder pad dealie and gray hair, this kinda' looks like Captain Picard.
2. Wait a minute... those Legoland Billund mask 2-packs were different? It's been so long that I've forgotten they were ever even released anywhere but in that pack.
3. This is just too win. I'll probably close this in a day or two. X D
4. No, I'm talking FIRST insertion! I had a bunch of black pieces from these sets just laying around, untouched. I was only using the colored pieces in mocs up until that point. Then I stuck two together. *snap* I turned the part around to use the ball connector on the other side. *snap* In under 2 minutes, i had 6 broken parts, some with BOTH sides snapped! I've never encountered anything like this before, except for the dark pearl gray (gunmetal) socket bars from one of the larger sets... ALL 4 of those broke. Some by putting them in once, other by taking it out... first try. >__<
5. I think that he's saying the region of the world this catalog came from doesn't carry certain themes and therefore leave them out of the catalog (where other catalogs around the world WOULD have them)... ...and that the official reasons given by the people who carry the Lego line down there to back up not carrying these certain themes and set sizes are poopoo. In his opinion of course, but it wouldn't surprise me. They do make some pretty bad decisions even here in the USA based on "market research".
6. I agree... a little bit. The Bionicle line's playability is CHOKED by <insert that tiresome argument> pieces (which of course makes buying multiples of sets like you would with System mildly pointles...) ...but these are still pretty nice. There's not SO much juniorization going on that I hate them. not even close. Y'know... I never really looked at that helmet up close like that. Must. Have. I rather like the "Space" aspect of having that in blue. Something for the Lego astronauts to wear in pressurized environments. : p You can just slap any ol' visor on it, too.
7. After looking at the larger pics, all I can say is I was REALLY hoping that a lot of the lime was in fact glow in the dark. And what better theme to introduce such a play element? I mean hell, they're subterranean! Despite that, I still want these sets. I like a good deal of them for their parts, new and old.
8. Man, you're not Jokin'. My early 2000's white parts are a MESS. I started a ziploc bag of all my broken parts. What a nightmare when you see it all together like that. Don't even get me started on white parts that have turned amber. These newer-shaped ball joint connections... so weak and terrible. I like that they look smoother, but the plastic quality needs to be WAY higher before they can do high-stress points which are THAT thin... and unfortunately their quality is in fact going down, sooo... YyyyeeeeEEEEeeeeEEEEeeeeesh.
9. To be honest, a big thing that made me NOT get into Lego in the early 80's was seeing really skeletal, full-of-holes construction models in ads on the back of my comic books. The further they can stay away from studless parts, the better. We live in a world of highly detailed, highly poseable Japanese toys. We live in a world of picture-perfect works of art in both action figure and vehicle toy design. There is NO room for small Technic sets that drive home the fact that you're holding a handful of expensive beams with holes all over them. A fusion of System and Technic is necessary these days, in order to "cover up" what I personally describe as hideous-looking sets. Look at this here. What's the BEST looking part of this model? http://www.flickr.com/photos/29805279@N06/...pool-818883@N25 And WHY is it the best part? Here all I see is a bucket, tires and then a bunch of weird beams on top. http://www.flickr.com/photos/29805279@N06/...pool-818883@N25 Not pretty. I should not have to squint my eyes (!!!) in order to make something look right. Wish #2. Redoing the Technic men. What large vehicle toy line usually doesn't have drivers? If you're going to be forced to make something very... uh... unattractive, you can still get kids buying them if there's a figure to role-play into the driver's seat. But the Technic men of old need to go bye-bye in place of something better. Here were the problems of those figures: --Unlike minifigs, the size of these figures did not warrant their strange angles or disproportional human anatomy (shape of lower arms, length of arms, really angular parts that looked kooky and didn't complement angles in it's other parts, etc). --Lack of customization??? You have these tiny System minifigs that could turn into nearly ANY person or character, but Technic guys were stuck as you purchased them! All they had were pop-off lower arms, lower legs, head... but at a decent risk of breaking them. Even more, the later figures had terribly asymmetrical bodies. That rarely looks good, but it's depressing when there's no room to swap out parts to make them "normal". And that's terrible. Here's where Technic figs of course need to go: --Better human proportions. --Customization... ----Head (hair pieces) ----Head (ability to wear glasses and goggles WITHOUT requiring a helmet, by having nibs on side of head similar to the minifig helmet ones) ----Head (Ability to disconnect from torso) ----Body (At LEAST 3 parts, torso, abdomen, pelvis) ----Feet (They looked ridiculous the first time around. Needs more of an arch) ----Legs (A top and a bottom able to be disconnected) ----Arms (A top and a bottom, able to be disconnected) ----Hands (Similar to old style, but able to be disconnected) They need to have the ability to swivel at said torso to abdomen connection point, and if they were feeling REALLY generous, add swivels in the middle of upper arm and or upper leg.
10. The last thing I saw of Terminator was the 3rd movie. (Meh!) But heck, once I free up some hard drive space I'll sample a few episodes of this to see if it's decent.
11. I sincerely hope these 2009 sets are made of better materials than 2008. This year so far, I bought 2 Gorast, 1 Bitil and 1 Krika. I already have about 6 (mostly black) broken parts, all ball joint connectors, broken upon FIRST insertion! >__< I'm keeping those poor people over at the Lego replacement parts department quite busy...
12. Yeah, Cannonball. Thanks. Lockdown's sexier with that app though, now that I'm lookin' at the original.
13. Or Flickr, apparently. Anyways, enough with the name calling and finger pointing. It has it's purpose at times but not when someone posts a theory that they say they know because they're from the future lol. Why, such a thing is impossible, yes? Hahahaha!
14. I really should buy Lockdown, especially since all 2 or 3 new different paint jobs will probably wipe out the original one. Reason being, I'm a sucker for black and lime green, and this sticker set from reprolabels.com that make him look like the guy from an earlier year (Cybertron? Energon?) are freaking SWEET.
15. Compared to their even more minimalistic Happy Meal sets, like SANTA, these really make me feel good. Yes, the printed faces are all sorts of horridness, but getting something like that DOES want one to go out and get more "real" sets. I truly wonder if their sales are in fact HURT by the more recent Batman and Bionicle figures you can't build with. I knew their sad-megablocks attempt with Galidor Happy Meals you could KIND of build with would ruin things for years to come.
16. Since my Walmart here never seemed to even get this wave of Lego in, it's nice to actually look at a pictorial review. Feet. Ugly. Head sticking far off torso. Ugly. Elbow design. Absolutely freakin' ridiculous. Spinner thingie. GET that JUNK off my LEGO! Hand weapons... jesus. NO. Upper arm gear housing part. We need to see this part in sets more often... might not because of it's "pointy" digit. Mask. Okay part. Yeah, broken down it's just those 2 parts I like.
17. I find it funny that Greg would mention "consequences". The ONLY consequences you could really have coming to you on there for that is a banning. Lego somehow plopped an entire video showing Mata Nui waking up in the ocean and standing up. on Amazon.com. Then all the screencaps went to Brickshelf and that was it. There's hope for that site yet. Nothing worse than arguing with an admin over what you did and didn't do while madly trying to search and save the things you're being accused of in another window as related topics and posts are vanishing. Oofah... Wouldn't it be screwy if Lego completely dumps the Mata Nui is physically Mata Nui thing just to make us early viewers look silly? We know he'll be a canister, but who says he'll be the mountain of walking rock? (And when's that 3-page poster of him supposed to hit?)
18. I don't know why that made me laugh, but you'll be happy to know I shot cheese doodle goo out my mouth. Yeah, I don't know if you're completely right, but it's definitely going to be a similar scenario, I'm sure.
19. Quickstrike's Ghost? Man, this is all getting me thinking of Beast Wars, another robotic toy franchise that LOVED their CGI rooms of darkness with bright heads floating around.
20. Not to overshadow yours, but how are Micahberger's constructed? Mainly, how is the neck attached and what part (Clickits?) are the wings attached to?
21. Yeah, bad terminology on my part. Only visitors of Lego fasn sites really got wind of this... not like it's a write-up in newspapers on a slow news day.
22. I'm stunned at how deeply hated these are in the majority of critiques so far. Granted, even with pics this blurry you CAN tell a lot about their construction and a good deal of the parts used... but I can also see there's things that aren't really shown yet. Mainly, what's being launched, how good or bad (jelly aliens!) the rock monsters are... how much glow in the dark there is, whether or not these are actually mostly lime, glow or some have said, a shade of gray. It's way too early to be whizzing this bad on them. On the plus side, I'm sure Lego's gotten a LOT of good feedback from this early pic release. People are not liking the idea of lime paired with shades of red, though lime itself isn't bad. If there's a "wave 2" of these, you can bet Lego would like to "correct" that choice. Then again, who knows if it's even possible to alter a wave 2 this late in the game, for the parts may already be in mass-production.
23. None of the above. I want human vs. human, but both sides have cool mecha suits as well as unmanned behemoths. The best execution would probably be to have a play feature where a claw extends off one mecha suit, hits a pressure point on another mecha suit, which then pops the cage where the pilot sits open. Buuuuut if you really NEED a returning enemy, whichever of those lines above were the ones with a black head with (BEAUTIFULLY SYMMETRICAL!) silver robot circuitry as the face. Pretty sure it wasn't Insectoids, but...
24. Well, the reason it's so much more thought about is of course because it was mentioned in a press release, but also because it's purple, and ALL variations on purple. I mean it's pretty high up on the basic color wheel, just one step beneath the primary colors! Red yellow blue. They become green orange purple. You have off-yellows, off-blues, off-greens that vanish, but not ALL yellow, blue or green. The old purple more or less vanished one day, and that was sad. Then this newer, darker (better looking, imo) version started bleeding in... that was wonderful. Now, BOTH will be gone, along with sand purple, trans purple, etc? Yikes!
