New Japanese LEGO Bricks x Paper Products!
ILikePi replied to Alywin's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sounds interesting! Thanks for the news Alywin! I can't believe that those "sets" are going to be released in less than one month! They must have worked really hard to keep it a secret until now! I have a question though: will these sets only be available in Japan? EDIT: A link (crude) translation of the page from Japanese to English can be found here. Just replace all of the "[rego]"s with "LEGO". EDIT: Actually, I think that you reversed the values of the amount of LEGO bricks and pieces of paper. According to the translation, there are going to only be about 10 LEGO pieces per set, and 100+ sheets of paper. This is what I think the page says: Christmas set - 8 LEGO bricks, 120 pieces of paper - 2300 yen Basic set - 10 LEGO bricks, 200 pieces of paper - 2900 yen Transparent Basic set - 8 LEGO bricks, 120 pieces of paper - 2300 yen "Releasing" set - 7 LEGO bricks, 187 pieces of paper - 2900 yen Hole Puncher - 1200 yen Pretty expensive if you ask me... -
Although I don't own any of the sets, my favorite of all of the modular building sets has got to be Green Grocer. There are so many advanced techniques to the front that make the buliding look stunning! I like how the bay windows (if that's what they are) are jutting out - it makes the set look all the more detailed. The use of the 1 x 2 bricks with grooves are also a great touch. But most of all, I love the interiors and accessories. Usually those little trinkets are what make me want a certain set. The Green Grocer has a fully stocked fridge (unlike Fire Brigade, which only has two trans-blue 1 x 1 round bricks and two hot dogs ), intricate tiling, and some spectacular mini-models like the radiator and grandfather clock. Also, the mouse hole with mouse and cheese gives it that extra bit of detail that could make the decision of whether or not I would get the set (if I had the money). Fire Brigade would come in a close second though. It's currently the only other modular building that has an interior, that's a pretty obvious choice for me. However, if Cafe Corner had interior detailing, it would be second. The outside details of Fire Brigade look to simple when compared to Cafe Corner and Green Grocer.

I visit the blog weekly - there are so many LEGO websites that I keep forgetting to visit, and Classic-Town.net is one of them. I would not like to see other themes on the blog because it's called "Classic Town" for a reason. Out of all of the choices for question 3, what I would like to see most are more reviews of the week. I enjoy reading all good LEGO reviews, so that's an easy choice for me. Compared to other well-known blogs, I have to give Classic-Town.net a 4 out of 5. You guys have great banners and visuals, and blog creations that are top-notch. And finally, for the last question, I voted that I like all of the choices equally. There's too many to choose from!

If you play the LEGO Star Wars: The Quest for R2-D2 game (which is, unfortunately, very boring and repetitive), you get instructions to build a mini Malevolence. You can read the topic about the game and get links to the instructions here.

Wow, that looks awesome - just like those ones I see on TV at this time of year! I like the "wooden" feeling to it. It makes the toy shop seem so warm and welcoming! Did you change the interior in any way? If so, I would love to see it.

That is because they actually try to do so. The "random" colors (blue and tan) are there so that the kids who are building the sets will have an easier time doing it, since the colors act as reference points on where to put the next pieces. Also, the Technic pieces usually make the set stronger, so kids can play with them without pieces constantly falling off. Yes, but then the building instructions would be too complicated for a 6-12 year old child to follow.Keep in mind that almost every single LEGO set is made for kids, not all you AFOLs out there. The designers do not make the sets completely realistic because it helps the kids build them more easily. Kids are the main age group that LEGO sets are for, and usually the designers ignore most of what AFOLs would want in the design. The only LEGO sets that are designed for AFOLs are the ones with the special packaging (like the upcoming Imperial Flagship's box art) and the UCS sets. And that is why I vote for it being a good balance.

Big Cam, how do you even know all of that stuff? It took me around, I don't know, half a year to find out about all of those odd moderator thingies and jokes that are well remembered by all of the other members who have been here for a long time.

LEGO Shop FREE Shipping w/$99 purchase !
ILikePi replied to BlueDragonZ's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I just got my Holiday 2009 LEGO Catalog today, and I found two deals for the holiday season! EDIT: Yellow changed to orange so the set names can be viewed without highlighting the words. Both deals run through December 31, too! Offers valid for both the US and Canada. The catalog also says that the offers are only valid from purchases made through the LEGO Catalog and at shop.LEGO.com. -
Review: 6190 Shark's Crystal Cave
ILikePi replied to GriZzliQ's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Great review of a great set of yet another that I never knew existed until now! The blue printed "moon" baseplate suits this set so well! I like how the designers used the craters as spots to place the plants. The bumpy part of the baseplate looks just like a dirt hill, too. The blue BURP is beautiful. Keep up the good reviews! -
I got ∞ places better than last time, since this was my first EB contest! I didn't think that I would get on the top 15 places, though. Thanks to everyone who voted for me (about 4 votes)!

LEGO Shop FREE Shipping w/$99 purchase !
ILikePi replied to BlueDragonZ's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Thanks for posting this great news for us North Americans, BlueDragonZ! I don't think that I'll be getting anything that expensive, but free shipping is still a good deal for others! I hate how most of the LEGO S@H deals are for NA only though - we get lower prices on LEGO and good offers, while the other countries suffer in pain! Wow, good for you! I myself would love to get that set, but it's just so darn expensive! If I did get it, I wouldn't be able to get any LEGO sets for all of 2010!I also wouldn't have enough space to put it anywhere. If you get it, do you plan on making a huge review for all of us to enjoy? -
Video of Lego Buddhist Temple In Pop-Up Book
ILikePi replied to RepublicForces's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wow, that is one of the most original MOCs I have ever seen! The box itself is well-designed already, but the fact that it opens into a set just puts the icing on the cake! I would love it if the maker would post more pics and a detailed explanation of the construction that allows the set to fold and unfold, but unfortunately it seems that he does not speak much English. Thanks for sharing! -
Also, to add on KimT's post, how do you know that those are the actual prices of the sets? Amazon seems to have made the price of most of the 2010 sets higher than usual. For example, the battle packs are $15 USD, when they will probably be $11 USD. Just be patient and wait for the sets to actually come out before price ranting. I find that the sets are not overpriced. If you think about the process each sets goes through (design, new parts, stickers/printed piece designs, box art, instructions, marketing, etc. all take about one year - maybe 3 or more for the larger exclusive sets), you will see that the sets are "expensive" for that reason. That, and the price of oil, as mentioned earlier in this topic.
-
I have one - a green one (which I bought on January 2009)! I find it to be extremely useful, but I think that I will need to get another sometime in the future to make taking plates apart easier. It used to be $1.79 USD a few months ago.

The sets are now available at the LEGO S@H Holiday Gift Shop! 40000 LEGO® Cool Santa Set 40001 LEGO® Santa Claus 40002 LEGO® X-mas Tree 40003 LEGO® Snowman

Guys, you should keep this in mind: Wikis are very unreliable, especially ones about LEGO - it is, after all, a kid's toy, so there will be many kids editing and making posts on the Wikis. Anyone can edit them, so that means that they can post whatever they want. And I will say this one more time (and will not post it again ): The Brickmaster sets will have either a clone trooper and a battle droid or a Rebel trooper and a stormtrooper. If you look at the other Brickmaster books, it's pretty obvious to tell what minifigures are in this one. Pellaeon: I remember that MOC! The guy spent hundreds of USD to chrome the pieces.

Wow, these two fire vehicles are amazing, Rick! You've added many details like the steps on the "ladder" vehicle, and lots of accessories in the "engine" vehicle. You have also captured the modern look of fire vehicles. Beautifully done! Don't worry, LEGO has listened to us! they will be in some sets in the first wave of 2010, along with 2 x 4 tiles!
-
Wow, nice! The newer member numbers are currently in the 7000-8000 range, which is most of the twenty-first century sets. Lucky new people! When we get to the 10000s, expect this thread to be flooded with pics of LEGO exclusives! Not really - that's an unreleased set that can only be found in the LEGO Castle Brickmaster Book.
-
pedro and Oky Wan always win! Congratulations guys! I hope you enjoy your EB stormies! How many of them do you both have now? EDIT: What? Why would you quote me for no reason and then congratulate the winners a second time?

Chris from Reasonably Clever has posted some a pic of the book: Bionicle - Makuta's Guide to the Universe By Greg Farshtey Free with a $35 set purchase in week 3 of Toys R Us "Bricktober" Promiotion A nice hardback book, retail value $20. Even nicer when you combined the 15% Bionicle purchase on-line coupon... Maybe not as bad as we thought?

Great idea! I used to love playing those Army Men games on the Playstation. If BrickForge or BrickArms could make molds that are similar to those bases in tan and blue (spies that are on both teams), that would be so cool! I'll have to remember to make different colored army men figs in the future.

I agree with what Forresto said - it takes more than a year to make a regular set. I still believe that the HP theme will be revived, too. Why would a LEGO Harry Potter game be released without even one LEGO Harry Potter set? Surely the kids who play the game would want to buy some actual toys to go with it?
-
Erm...what? A BIONICLE encyclopedia worth $20 USD? I laughed when I saw that!Seriously though, how could it be a $20 value? That would mean that the book would have to be as good as the LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary book, which is $22 USD. Can any BIONICLE fans see what the encyclopedia is like (how many pages and how detailed the contents are)?

How are submarines that are irrelevant to Atlantis "<insert that tiresome argument>"? That is not the definition of that word. Irrelevant is the one.I don't think that these sets are <insert that tiresome argument> in any way. There are just some larger plating pieces on the submarines which are found in Technic sets. So if these sets are <insert that tiresome argument>, does that mean Technic sets with smooth plating parts are <insert that tiresome argument>?
-
Not really - it's just a very elaborate and fancier-than-usual instructions book, as you can see in this EB review by parchioso. The parts may turn out to be useful, though, like the Pirates Brickmaster book.
