  1. Hey, Captain Nemo isn't the only Moderator around here! We put the original LEGO Movie discussions and reviews in Special Themes because it doesn't fit the same mould as other Licensed Themes. Licensed Themes are those where LEGO has gotten an external license for a property. For their own movies, LEGO has input into the property, and for the first LEGO Movie created quite an eclectic mix of sets that were about as Special as it gets. I expect this to be taken even further with the sequel, given that it seems we might gets sets with both Minifigures and Minidolls - and maybe even Duplo?? Who knows! So, with Licensed being crowded enough as it is, I will move this topic to Special Themes to live with the first LEGO Movie and give the theme a bit more breathing space. (If you ask why TLBM and TLNM weren't in Special as well, I'd say that TLBM was just a cool expansion of the DC theme really, while TLNM naturally fit in Action with the rest of Ninjago)
  2. I don't know what kind of weird promotional material Lucasfilm gives to LEGO to work with that LEGO ends up putting that red droid who had about one split second of screen time (as far as I could tell) into a set but puts the mine worker into a hard-to-obtain polybag. It really should have been the other way round based on what happens in the film.
  3. Ah that is a good precedent to mention. I'd completely forgotten about those. I do hope if they do it, it's a relatively minor character, unlike Umbridge and Slughorn in that special pack
  4. Amazing review, thank you! I would never have wanted to even try to set up a reviewing space big enough for this I do think it's awesome what LEGO has done here. Though I haven't seen the set in front of me yet, I can tell it's massive, and so I feel like the price is probably justified even though it's quite hollow. LEGO has been moving in a direction of smaller but denser models jampacked with more details, so it's nice to see a set that preferences scale over detail now and again. With a roller coaster they were kind of forced to do that, but still nice to see!
  5. Unless there's a videogame or potentially a DVD/Blu Ray release that makes sense for it, I don't foresee a new character exclusive polybag. It's kind of amusing to me that you'd actually want there to be one, though? With these exclusives, people always complain that they're hard to get and it's not nice having desirable characters in exclusive polybags, but then when we aren't getting one, other people complain. I'm not accusing you of complaining or anything - just pointing out this observation.
  6. I'm not really sure how this escalated, but PLEASE STOP. We don't tolerate any form of bullying or rudeness towards other people here. If you think someone has been out of line, take it up with a member of staff. Though they aren't supposed to minimod, as others have said @harleydavid98 please stop quoting pictures. Now, everyone just lighten up and carry on. Thanks
  7. When and why LEGO does and doesn't give us new moulds will never make sense to us mere mortals. From talking to designers I know that every theme and probably every wave within a theme gets a particular budget for things like new moulds, prints, and making parts in new colours. The designers themselves want to give us everything we want, but they're constrained a lot of the time and also probably cater to the market research and wealth of knowledge they have about what kids care about. Still, things end up not making any sense a lot of the time, like why were there all those Kryptonian armors and even the Kryptonian guns that were kinda pointless, why did we get two colors of Ant-Man helmets for that first set but now no proper helmet for Wasp (I know that's Marvel, sorry), why briefly did some characters get dual-moulded legs at random, etc. We can hypothesize for years on end but ultimately it will never truly make sense because I don't think there's any true sense to be made of it. Even if LEGO transparently told us why certain decisions were made, it still wouldn't make sense. I kind of feel like with some themes the designers push back more against the budget and say "but we really really want new hair moulds for everybody and a bunch of other things" and the higher ups say "well ok fine", whereas with other themes the designers go "eh stuff it, not worth the argument, here's Infinity War Spidey with no dual-moulded legs".
  8. Honestly I can't believe that people are actually complaining about getting repeat civilian-clothes torsos. Use a little bit of imagination; not every detail has to be 100% perfect to the films. Harry Potter is a book series too, after all. I'm absolutely willing to call out when LEGO has been what looks to us as 'lazy' when it comes to minifigure designs. Like in Marvel sets when they reuse heads for a whole bunch of characters that look nothing alike, skimp on details, etc. But in the five new HP sets revealed thus far we are already getting four outfits for Harry, two of which are civvy clothing that accurately matches some point in the film. We're getting two screen-accurate civvy outfits for Ron as well. In the 2010-11 line we only got three Harry outfits total and only one of those was a civvy outfit that was nice and all, but usually out of place. The Hogwarts Express already has an exclusive Hermione outfit, the trolley witch, and an awesome new Lupin (unlike that wtf-were-they-thinking 2011 Lupin). But oh, why hasn't anybody complained yet that Hogwarts-outfit Hermione doesn't have a skirt and dual-molded short legs like Lisa Simpson? Gosh, LEGO really dropped the accuracy ball on that one /sarcasm Cho Chang, hopefully?
  9. I absolutely agree with you there. I still stand by my previous sentiment that the set is nice both for what it is and for the target market, but as an adult and someone who has been getting HP Lego since 2001 I do wish they'd based the set off of the scene from the first film and included a centaur. It would've been a lot more expensive, though. LEGO must really like the Aragog scene given that this is the third Aragog they've made over the years.
  10. I agree with most others here about the Aragog set. It's a good little set for what it is, and a nice entry point to the theme. That said, I personally won't get it because I'll be getting my Rons and Harrys in the two Castle sets revealed so far, but I absolutely don't fault a set that does it's thing perfectly and still doesn't give me any reason to need it. Not every set out there needs exclusive figures, especially when we're talking about drastically different price points.
  11. You have quite rightly called me out! One or two extra special minifigures can work wonders, though, in convincing me to buy a whole set when it's one with a low enough price. I'll concede the Quidditch set would be brilliant on display as it is, but without new minifigures I care about, I can pass like I said. Let me remind everyone - now that there is actual set information and pictures to discuss, please keep wishlisting to an absolute minimum in this thread. Thank you!
  12. I totally get where you're coming from and I too am excited to see all of the characters that the CMF will give us! However on your second point that I've quoted here, while it's true they're recreating scenes, most sets thus far are still a mashing together of different scenes from different films - the train is a bit of 1 and a bit of 3 really, the Great Hall is mostly 1 with the Basilisk from 2, the Whomping Willow is mostly 2 with the exploding cauldron scene from 1. It is nice of them to include the Trolley Witch and she does make perfect sense. I was just saying that they seem to have prioritized some very minor (albeit appropriate) figures. Quidditch should have included Hootch in my opinion. And while I get that it is Seamus, he doesn't even have a soot/covered face to really recreate the scene, so he's a bit lackluster compared to some of the other characters.
  13. I'm not sure how to feel about the newly revealed sets, which leaves me a bit sad. I love HP and got most of the 2010-11 wave, and still think the new Great Hall set is absolutely fantastic. I just don't have that same tingly, totally jazzed feeling that I had when the Great Hall was revealed with the rest of these. My favourite would be the Whomping Willow. The tree is a bit funky but cool to get anyway, the car is good, and the castle interiors are decent. Snape and Filch make sense for the setting, but I don't think we really needed another Hermione in this set and I'm totally perplexed by "random Griffindor student no.12". Random Ravenclaw student no.x would've been best to round out the houses, but if they weren't willing to do that then why not Crabbe and Goyle? They're quite a presence in the first two films and missing thus far. I probably find Quidditch unexciting just because I have the other two, so that's my personal bias. Getting stands for all four houses is nice, but the minifigure selection doesn't excite me much, so for me personally it's an easy pass. The Hogwarts Express is technically good and Lupin is fantastic, but I'll likely just BL him the same way I BL'd Luna from the last Hogwarts Express, and put my money towards Castle/other future structure sets instead. All in all on the minifigure front, the Great Hall set made me think they were going all in on the figures and giving us most, if not all important/distinct characters from the first two films, but in the end we get tons of Harrys, Rons, and Hermiones and random characters like that Gryffindor boy, the sweets trolley lady, and Quidditch players who are nice but not very memorable or important. I'm still very pumped for the two Castle sets we've seen and eagerly await that last set of the wave yet to be revealed and the CMF. Just thought I'd share my slight disappointment.
  14. Personally I liked the second Dementor design (grey skeleton with posesble arms) better than I like this new one. With the skeleton one you could actually make it hover over and bend down to give the Dementor's Kiss to your minifigures, and it looked skeletal as Dementors should. This new one looks a bit too... fat.
  15. Only 75954 Great Hall - 878 pieces.
  16. Ah, thanks. I totally missed him. That would be quite a random inclusion if it is Seamus. And if it's a Ravenclaw (like it very slightly looks like, though it's hard to tell), who could it be? There are not a lot of Ravenclaws in the films, and especially not Ravenclaw boys in the first couple. They could always name it as a character from the books, or just call him Ravenclaw Student, though that too would be odd. Time will tell, like with everything! Personally, I don't think all minifigures need leg printing, and the Quidditch players and Olivander are characters that look just fine without it. Of course that's my subjective opinion, but really it comes down to colour blocking for me and both of those characters look pleasing and fine with no leg-printing (though knee-guards on the Quidditch players would be fantastic). Some Superhero characters, like Black Manta and Wasp, however, have so much printing in a bright colour on their torsos that it just looks weird to not have any additional colour balancing the designs out on their legs. A lot of recent leaks do have leg printing, though: Filch, most of the characters from the Great Hall (who we'd seen before), Mera, Aquaman, that new Batman. Indeed most of the HP figures revealed so far do have leg prints.
  17. Where does anybody see Seamus? Are we still talking about that one banner image? I see the backs of Malfoy and Susan Bones in the boat, which comes in the Great Hall. They've moved figures around - I doubt a boat comes in the Willow set.
  18. Please end this discussion about leakers and what information they can give. Furthermore, treat others with respect. To reiterate guidelines we have stated before - people with insider information are free to give what they want to or can give, and we ask others not to pester them for more. By the same token, we ask people who have some information not to toy with others and needlessly draw out the information that they are willing to give through guessing games or slowly dripping out one tiny morsel of info at a time.
  19. That leaked minifigure being discussed is absolutely Beckett. It even has the same head as the already-released Beckett in Imperial disguise minifigure. So, let's move on!
  20. To be fair, there's very little to discuss at this stage. Two sets revealed, some credible information out there, and some less credible information. Once some more pictures come out I think we can try to stick to our usual "discuss the sets only" rule, but in the meantime, I don't see the point in shutting down discussion as long as it's mostly focused on Wizarding World sets/rumors of sets.
  21. These look very wacky and fun - and I like that all of the characters are pretty much made from regular Lego parts or new regular Lego parts (unlike something like Angry Birds for instance), making customizing so easy! This will also be the first truly blind blind-bag series, apart from being able to differentiate between sitting and standing Kitty and between Kitty and Pupper, but since they're all so cute I can see myself picking up a few. It's not for everybody of course, but overall I feel like Lego has done an excellent job!
  22. I agree that this smells quite fake. Maybe, just maybe someone could have barebones info for a theme that's a year out. But leaked images, as the OP claims? I think not.
  23. Thanks for the amazing, comprehensive review Fangy! Funny enough your favourites are ones I'm interested in the least, since I've never cared too much for the costume minifigures. Or perhaps I made sure not to get into them from the beginning because I knew I'd then be tempted to collect them all... I get where a lot of people are coming from with dislike for this series, and especially disappointment that the non-Licensed series spot isn't a totally "normal" one this time, but to me this one still has enough to offer and for people looking for normal minifigures it fares a lot better than the Batman series plural, Simpsons, or even the Monsters series really. I'm primarily into CMF for parts to mix and match, and only occasionally for whole minifigures that are too cute as a whole to pass up. There are lots of good parts and usable prints here. Not the whole series, sure, but still some good picks. The two birthday kids have amazing parts all around from the minifigure prints to the hair to the accessories. I'm also into the horse-riding guy for good prints and the costume which will look hilarious in a variety of settings. Can't pass on the brick people just for those brick bodies (and the hair pieces in new colours are a plus). And I wouldn't be interested in the elephant, but that mouse is too cute... LEGO's got me shoving the mouse into that one.
  24. Yes, the discussion in this thread has become not about Fantastic Beasts at all. The ACTUAL Fantastic Beasts / Harry Potter 2018 discussion is happening in the thread called Harry Potter 2018 Rumors and Discussion. It's gotten a bit complicated, but as this discussion was going well I think this topic should just be renamed to Future Licensed Themes Speculation. Unfortunately I'm on mobile at the moment and can't find a way to edit the title here and now.
